Defense:

Mukin Vessel
Dobber Kuyeas
Dintelf Hebber

Darvin Pesser

Forwards:

Depper Pargel

Teamor Vanden

If you RP first, you can choose my goalscorers, RP injuries, and hand out cards. Feel free to godmod events, too, just don't godmod my characters' reaction too much. Thanks!

The Ledees are brother and sister. Klyg and Kuyeas are the youngest starters, with Vish, McFree, and Wonker between them and the other starters.

Those three midfielders are the heart of this team, although it's unclear whether they can live up to expectations. Vish and Wonker would be individually very promising talents on their own, but both could yet be outshined by McFree, a Bigtopian who doesn't appear to have her citizenship exactly in order.

A recent development in Earental football is the advent of "nidjing;" creating as if by magic (but actually due to science, somehow), a "psychic" link between individuals compatible in some identifiable way. At least when applied to footballers, the results are somewhat increased levels of physical awareness--perhaps they'll be able to know where to pass to the other, even with a poor line of sight. Generally this is done artificially, but in recent seasons, other pairs have "clinked" or formed such a link without resorting to science. Of course, it's by no means a cure-all; teams with successful pairs (or "nidjfoges") can and regularly do lose to teams without.

Stroyfungul have a strong academy system and you'd think they'd be on top of this, but surprisingly, there are no nidjed pairs on this team at all. The reason? The three aforementioned kids have somehow clinked as a unit, a process which nobody knows how to replicate, and most of their magicalish resources are now dedicated into keeping an eye on those three. Unsurprisingly, it's been very tough to find a fourth midfielder to fit in with them who's not hopelessly left behind; Hassel is the latest in a quickly-moving line, but if they're half as good as the rumor mill promises he's probably destined to be little more than an answer to a trivia question.

Then again, the rumor mill could be completely wrong.

I can't take credit for all the ideas here--some of them are other people's but they've let me run with them.

All text is, ICly, in Earad, and transliteration retcons are likely at any time!

Zenegalese NextGen Squads

Postby Zenega » Tue Mar 13, 2012 3:36 pm

RP Permissions: Granted in full, knock yourself - or my players - out. I think I can work with just about anything you can throw at me.
Style modifiers: Langemark-Poelkapelle +2.3 / Académie Altafrique -2.3

Langemark-Poelkapelle Academy

Image

Now in it's tenth year, the LP Academy was founded by the national federation ZFF, to provide the future starts of the Zenegalese national team, and potentially provide valuable income to the impoverished domestic leagues. The ZFF was concerned that too many of it's youngest talents were leaving Zenega under the age of 18, particularly to Tamarindia and Kukalaya, sparking fears for their general well-being, a sense of exploitation, and a concern that the nation was not seeing any financial return or input into the game from the foreign clubs regularly taking youngsters abroad. Initially the ZFF proposed a ban on under-18s from being able to play abroad. Not only was this legally unenforceable, but as many players pointed out, there was little incentive to stay put. The national academy was designed to provide just that incentive – the best coaching, the best facilities, and the best education in the country thrown in: the ZFF built a new sports village especially for the academy in the Langemark district of the capital Ouakam, and the elite Poelkapelle Technical High School was funded to provide an education for the boys, aged 11 – 18, whilst based at the academy. Hence the name. It was an attractive package, and Zenega's recent World Cuppet title is indication of it's huge success: Awate Gabriel, Mustapha Touré, Chieloka Chioke, Jean Beauchemin, and Babacar Sylla are all former graduates of LP, and three current Academy members, Wansin and the Chibuzo twins were also part of the squad.

The LP Academy has not been without it's critics. Although most of the players go on to sign for Zenegalese clubs, a number have been sold abroad upon graduation – Touré and Sylla are prime examples – for large fees, and although this has reportedly been fed back into the academy programme, some feel the domestic clubs have not benefitted from the income, and that a certain lingering air of corruption surrounds such deals. The second common criticism is that of geographic bias – and there is no denying the majority of it's intake is from the coastal western part of the country around the cities of Cap-Cayor, Sogobe, and the capital Ouakam. The eastern cities and their provinces, including Botangé and Galoya, have regularly complained that they are not getting young boys into the programmes, nor able to sign graduates when they come out, with a tendency to sign for the western-based teams. This criticism has now largely gone away with the opening of Dámaso Abu's Académie Altafrique in the eastern city of Galoya.

Manger: Nwebube Onwumelu, 62

Onwumelu had a distinguished career as a player for Sogobe Embankment and Cap-Cayor before moving into club management. Despite a popular movement to have him appointed national team coach, dating back almost thirty years, Onwumelu has often expressed that he would not be interested in the post, but has committed himself to the development of the game. Many see him as indirectly instrumental in Zenega winning the World Cuppet.

Onwumelu has selected the majority of his squad from the senior year of his Academy cohorts. The stand-out players are the Chibuzo twins, Chukwu and Nacho, who went to Polar Islandstates with the national squad; keeper Kanayo, and highly-rated forward Onuoha Zulu. Three of his juniors have made the squad - Rapuokwu, Dilichu and Onwuka, but tragically the Academy star Wansin has been forced to retire after losing an arm during his kidnapping by exiled dictator General Theroux Chukwumoge.

Académie Altafrique

Image

The Académie was founded just two years ago by Zenegalese goalkeeping hero Dámaso Abu, to provide an opportunity for young players in the eastern regions of Zenega who were often overlooked by the western-centric national academy. Abu started his own goalkeeping career at local club, and one of the national big three, Galoya-Galere, going on to win four national titles before a move abroad to Tamarindian second-tier club Defensa at the age of 25. Abu was a huge success in the land of the jumping monkey, winning a Proximo (second tier) title, promotion to La Primera Liga, and a Cup winners medal for the small outfit as well as becoming a much loved figure in the Tamarindian game. Plenty of the larger clubs courted Abu during his time in Tamarindia but the keeper remained loyal to Defensa, declining a number of big moves. Abu was team captain for both of Zenega's World Cuppet appearances, a national hero both in Tamarindia and back home. At 31, whilst still first choice keeper for Defensa, Abu founded the Académie back home in Galoya, and with the collapse of the Tamarindian national academy signed a couple of their top prospects for his new project, including Starblaydi midfielder Mobi Chibutu. Abu announced his retirement ahead of the second Cuppet, and after leading his team to glory, has returned home to Zenega. Although he will manage the Académie team in the NextGen series, he will not be involved in the day to day running thereafter, since he is to take up the role of manager for his old club Galoya-Galere. He is widely seen as the successor to Ngosi Mito Suavé as national team manager.

The Académie is a different set-up to the LP Academy since it receives no state funding. Although a number of teams courted Abu to set his academy up under a club banner, the Académie is in fact an independent and commercial operation. A number of companies are involved in sponsorship, as well as some of the higher-earning Zenegalese players abroad who buy subscriptions to become fellows of the Académie, Highly successful – and wealthy – Abdoulaye Bocandé, of Astograthian champions Echegoyan FC – is among the organisations benefactors. Unlike the national academy which is for Zenegalese nationals only, the Académie has a small number of players from neighbouring Altafriquan nations Tashinga, Barbary Salé and Gao, as well as Tamarindians, Kukalayans and a Starblaydi.

Manager: Damásu Abu, 33

Damásu Abu will manage his own academy team for the Next Gen tournament, although this is only a temporary role as he prepares to take the reigns of top club Galoya-Galere.

Abu has brought a squad made up mostly of his senior team at Académie, with a mix of nationalities. Like the LP Academy, most of the players are in the shop window looking to attract the attention of big clubs in the hope that large fees will contribute to the Academy coffers. Most of the Zenegalese contingent are from the eastern provinces, including the Chidalu brothers from Thiméon. The star players are Orlando Boissard, Bonnaya, Kukalayan Manu Kaokaru and team captain Mobi Chiabutu of Starblaydia, while the youngest, striker Madukaife Dike, represents an outstanding future talent already well known in much of the country as a future great.

The Seven Pillars Institute Voyagers

Manager: Katherine Jackson
Formation: 2-2-2-2-2
Style Modifier: 0
Kits: Purple and Silver or Silver and Purple depending on Home/Away

Goalkeeper: Yasmine Madrona

Born to a rich family, Yasmine preferred a ball over knitting or playing with dolls. Her parents finally gave in and allowed her to join a soccer-only school. Then, she went for Goalkeeping instead of some other strenuous job. She is a rising star in the youth ranks, with unlimited potential.

2nd Level Left Defender: Mi-Kan Hansohai

A Halil'Quan with no parents, SPI has become Mi-Kan's home. Diminutive for a Halil'Quan, with a wingspan of only four feet, she makes up for it by having exceptional ball-handling skills as well as hand-eye coordination.

2nd Level Right Defender: Okka Issu

A solid defender who isn't willing to sacrifice herself to get the ball. The typical Xe'Notl when it comes to superstition concerning plant safety. A great team player as well.

1st Level Left Defender: Patricia Oksan

She should be a track star, but she loves the football so much that she's playing soccer. Blazing fast, she sometimes helps out the midfield.

1st Level Right Defender: Kathryn Rolfe

Nicknamed the "Human Roller", she thrives on contact. Although she will get plenty of yellow cards, she never goes as far as to get a red. Any opposing forward who tries to score will get a piece of her whether they like it or not.

Left Midfielder: Osiris-Kan Mehabu

An unusual name for a Halil'Quan, Osiris, or "Syrie", for short, is the Team Captain. She's always looking for ways to make herself and her teammates better.

Right Midfielder: Janice Middleton

If Syrie is the Captain, Janice is the drill sergeant. Keeping all the other girls in line, Janice can be so focused on victory sometimes that she'll forget to have fun.

1st Level Left Forward: Kassa Votmk

The younger sister of Loria Votmk, Kassa seems to have inherited similar characteristics and personality. However, she's a bit more approachable than Loria ever will be.

1st Level Right Forward: He-Shin Ju-O

Hailing from the small moon of Darius, He-Shin doesn't look like she fits in with anyone. However, she has found a home at SPI, and is starting to contribute.

2nd Level Left Forward: Genevieve Henriete

Grace and beauty... Can kill. She glides around the pitch, and scores at every chance that she can get. Also an honors student.

2nd Level Right Foward: Nasienne Vincent

Killer precision and accuracy... And the Kick Specialist for the Voyagers.

Youth football in Polar Islandstates is predominantly the concern of the clubs themselves. Almost every team in the Federation and Challenge leagues has their own youth academy, usually drawn from local children, and feeds directly into the club itself. These play in several loosely competitive regional leagues, but the focus is on intra-academy competition and skills development. Many of the top clubs have their own notable academies, which can be relied upon to create a host of players for the club in question - Jan Mayen Islanders, SK Franz Josef City, East Franz Athletic, Yuzhny Equinox, FC Cape St Paul, and FC Torshavn to name but a few. However, there are two academies that broaden their search nationwide, and sometimes internationally, each with a slightly different tactical aim, and each opening their doors commercially to scouts from other clubs. These two academies in question are both sending teams to the NextGen Tournament...

Northbrook Diamonds FK Youth Academy
ImageImage
The academy for both Northbrook sides following the financial difficulties at Northbrook Zenith, the players at this strict academy find themselves tested to the absolute limit. With weather that even most other Polarians would consider challenging, Northbrook is the northernmost state in the Federation, and lies right in the path of some frequently ferocious winds. As such, by the time the players re given the chance to sign with one of the local sides or parade themselves for the visiting scouts, there isn't much they fear. They are gritty, hardened, powerful individuals, every bit as determined as the icy winds they've faced every day for three years. Not much phases them, and they will fight to the bitter end. Famous graduates of the academy in recent years include Vladimir Golubev, Petter Bielsen, Teemu Hansen, Torre Urfstadt, and Jan Szezlak.

Haapa-Mechelin Youth Academy
ImageImage
The academy attached to FC Axel Heiburg was set-up by club legend Jaromir Haapa-Mechelin after he left the management of the club to solve the problem of what he perceived to be a lack of talented youngsters that were happy with the ball at their feet. The first large academy in the country, its set-up, if not the tactics taught, are the model on which all other academies in the Federation are based, and it is hugely influential, with the ability to pick and choose who it takes on almost like no other. Players are taught to press hard, press fast, be athletic, and to win the ball at all costs, and then once in possession are taught a number of silky skills, and every year when the players who have turned down a contract from FC Axel Heiburg play their exhibition games for the visiting scouts there are always huge crowds of interested clubs. Famous graduates of the academy in recent years include Alexsandr van Sorensen, Patrick Ackerman-Finn, Kjetil Huytspurr, Maarten Berg, Pol Sundstrom, Luc Demarchelier, Lewis Bergen, Niko Marek, Eyvindur Sudesval, Sal Wahlfleurs, and many more.

For the World Next Generation Tournament,Mapletish has sent the two best sports clubs in Mapletish, namely Home United Sports Club and Golden Phoniex Sports Club. Both clubs have dominated sports in Mapletish and have the best sports talents in Mapletish. The Home United Youth Academy will feature players from the Unitede School of Excellence, the school operated by Home United. The Golden Phoniex Youth Academy will feature players from the Phoniex Youth Fotbul Academy. Not only are these two football academies the best in Mapletish, they also feature the best players that Mapletish have ever had.Home United produced Francis Lee,the most capped and the former captain of Mapletish.Golden Phoniex produced Leon Adams, one of the most influential defenders in Mapletish.

Home United SC,La Ademica/Unitede School of Excellence

Priced as the richest and most successful sports club in Mapletish, and most well known for Football in Mapletish, the players produced in La Ademica or the Unitede School of Exellence find themselves tested to the absolute limit both physically and mentally. The individuals from La Ademica are usually gritty, hardened and powerful and filled with the very bit of determination to play the Mapletish styled football.Famous gradutes of the academy in recent years include Alero Junio,JH Morison,Travis Hard,Gil Diego,Roi Ben and Steven Jerrard.

The Golden Phoniex Fotbul Youth Academy

The academy set up by former Golden Phoniex president in 1990,the young youth academy was to solve the problem of the lack of talented youngsters in the ageing club and to overcome the financial burdens on the club to replace the ageing club so the establishment of the youth academy helped to reduced the financial burden on the club and to replace the ageing squad. It tide over the worst financial season for the club as it reaches a deflict of up to M$950 million in 2000 and the youth academy helped to relieve the stress on replacing players which are sold to prevent the club from going into administration until the take over by the Phoniex Co which makes it the 2nd richest sports club in Mapletish after Home United.Famous graduates of the academy in recent years include Kwaku Itumeleng,Desta Khamisi,Masozi Kojo and Makena Kweku.

Each qualifying round for this competition consisted an area tournament to be won. Then a regional tournament to be won. Finally, all the 24 teams that made it to the national level were split into an A group and a B group based on skill level, ability, etc. Both groups would have 12 squads. Each club would play one game against all the others in their division. The division winner from Group A would automatically qualify for this tournament. The next 5 teams (places 2-6) from Group A would go into an 8 team, single-elimination, play-off competition with the top 3 finishers in Group B. The winner of that play-off would also qualify to represent Lukquarel at the World Next Generation Cup.

The School of Champions Dreadnoughts

A boys-only school in the moon of Darius, the harsh environment of the moon has helped this school succeed.

Manager Ivan Hans
Assistant Manager: Todd Hansen
Formation: 3-4-3
Style Modifier: -2.5
Kits: Green and Black.

Goalkeeper: Patrick Iswan

A very smart player from top to bottom, Patrick is a very solid football player. He chose to play goalie because not many excels at it.

Left Defender: Ne-Fa Turoi

This Halil'Quan makes all the scouts drool due to his effective tackling skills. He is not afraid to get a bit banged up.

Middle Defender: Pe-Sai Nankos

Terrific passer with a pretty good shot.

Right Defender: Isaac Kasvo

Perhaps the fittest player on the roster, excels late in games when people get tired.

Left Midfielder: Obadiah Von Kappan

Has very effective ball-handling skills.

Left-Center Midfielder: Eric Qasim

Captain of the squad who knows exactly when to push up to help the forwards and when to pull back for the defenders.

Right-Center Midfielder: Shaun Naim

Many think that he should be playing up front instead, but he has proven that he can traverse the field if necessary.

Right Midfielder: Ossak Hami

One of the few Xe'Notl at the academy, is very deft at handling free kicks.

Left Forward: Zehazten Indartsu bat Zaindari

A mouthful to say, but a pure speedster with the potential to become the next superstar.

Middle Forward: Thayne Juke

A nice player to pair off with Zaindari who is good at lifting balls up for other people to hit with their head.

Right Foward: Pamma Ranko

The other Xe'Notl on the roster, Pamma just... makes things happen.

RP Permissions for both of Falconfar's squads:
No Godmodding whatsoever and no serious injuries. Thank you.

Niccostrato Youth Academy

The Niccostrato Youth Academy has been pumping out the stars of tomorrow for quite some time. Marcello Dizarino, Antonio Mariquinta all went through the academy. More recently, Isidoro Nao, Gaspare Malvolio, Julio Lanziano, and Rafa DiSantos made their mark in the youth squad before making an impression on the world stage. The youth squad looks to continue this tradition during the World Next Generation Tournament.

EMI FC

EMI FC's youth squad has a much less impressive pedigree as Niccostrato's Youth Squad. However that's not to say that they haven't produced their share of stars. And there is none shining brighter then Alexio Del Nieran, the national teams most capped player and highest scorer. Additionally Victor Piqué came from the academy, along with a wealth of other mediocre and above average players.

Stríðsær Win Major Upset, Ráfnavík Triumph

It was a happy day for Stríðsær, as they made history by triumphing over the famed Haapa-Mechelin Academy with a last-gasp penalty from Björn Grímsy being just enough to win. Stríðsær's opponents are one of the best youth academies in the world, and have produced world-class talents such as Patrick Ackermann-Finn and Maarten Berg. However, they will rue their missed chances in a game that should have finished differently, with a penalty miss from Wojciech Jagr and numerous other chances that failed to find the back of the net.

Haapa-Mechelin started the match with pace and flair, much to the delight of the roaring home crowd, and Mohamadou Hjaltested was tested early on with a fierce shot from Jagr. However, Hjaltested spilled the ball out into the box, and there was a scramble on the goal line before Hauksson managed a clearance. In the 10th minute, it was again Jagr who caused trouble for Hjaltested, when he did well to trick his way past Finnbogason, only to fire straight at the 'keeper. It wasn't until the 30th minute that Stríðsær even looked like threatening, when good work from Björgmundsson gave starlet Örnsson a clear shot, but he was dissappointed to see it go wide of the far post. Haapa-Mechelin soon were back on the front foot, and only a fine double-save from Hjaltested prevented Illich-Svitych from scoring. In the resulting corner, Alliluyeva was denied by the woodwork as he saw his textbook header crash against the crossbar. Haapa-Mechelin were rightly dissappointed to not be in front as the halftime whistle blew, while Stríðsær couldn't believe their good luck.

It was back to business as usual after the restart, with the crossbar again denying Haapa-Mechelin as Hageskog smashed a freekick from 25 yards against the post. The local fans were again denied a cause for celebration in the 68th minute when Gurina went one-on-one with Hjaltested, only for him to round the 'keeper and roll the ball against the post, where Hjaltested scrambled to collect the rebound. Stríðsær had only their second chance of the game when Garðarsson and Grímsy exchanged passes before the former fired straight at Jelavich, who had remained barely tested. It looked as if Happa-Mechelin would finally get the goal they deserved in the 77th minute, when they were awarded a penalty after Ragnarsson tripped Jagr in the box. The striker confidently stepped up to take it, but was devastated after an excellent save from Hjaltested kept the ball out. Stríðsær managed to hold out until stoppage time, with Illich-Svitych and substitute Hjort both being denied by the woodwork. The game took a shocking turn in the last minute, as Grímsy was brought down in the box by Erstad, resulting in a yellow card and a penalty. Grímsy stepped up to take it, and blasted it into the bottom left corner, sending Jelavich the other way. The final whistle blew immediately afterwards, with the stadium completely silent aside from the ecstatic away team's celebrations.

At the same time in Harjeland, Ráfnavík ran out as winners against Island of Jersey despite intense second-half pressure from the away team. Ráfnavík rushed to a 3-0 halftime lead with goals from Björgólfur Guðmundsson, Karlsson, and Guðmund Guðmundsson. Island of Jersey pulled one back in the 75th minute, but it wasn't enough to win amidst the fervent home support.

Langemark-Poelkapelle 4-1 FC Guingamp Youth Development

Blinder: Onouha Zulu - the hatrick hero gave the Guingamp defence a battering with his physical display.
Howler: Olivier Ozo - scored an own-goal of spectacular daftness in an otherwise sterling performance by the back four.

Goals LP: Zulu 13' 58' 84' (pen), Obiuto 39'
Goals GYD: O. Ozo 56' (OG)

Highlight on: Tito Dilichu
The youngest player turning out for LP, Dilichu was a perfect forward link as the man in the hole between Zulu and Ruru Nweke. 21 completed passes of 30 attempts and most of them in and around the opposition penalty box. Zulu is undoubtedly the biggest worry to defences with his movement and bullying but young Tito links up the midfield to the forward warriors in some style. A surprise inclusion for this game but it paid dividends, and the opposition teams will have to be wary of his penetrating runs from deep.

Image
Académie Altafrique 1-1 Home United

Blinder: César Cissé - Ensured the Altafriquan defence was never overrun by the top-heavy formation of the Mapletish attack by providing a ready outlet.
Howler: Conrado Nicodemo - despite their numerical advantage the Home United forward line rarely threatened and Nicodemo looked particularly all at sea.

Goals AA: Bonnaya 17'
Goals HU: Nando 54'

Highlight on: Mobi Chiabutu
It's been a roundabout trip for the wandering Starblaydi, but what showed more than anything was his broad experience of different football styles, as he adapted to the changing conditions of the game with ease. As the 'Tishues started out full of attacking intent, Chiabutu dropped deep to disrupt their path through the midfield, seeing how their play was funnelled through the narrow centre of the park. When they spread the front four out in pursuit of width, Nando and Lorenzo taking to the flanks, so Chiabutu moved up the park in a roving role to provide an outlet for the defending fullbacks. His energy and the distance he covered are quite remarkable.

Seven Pillars Institute 2, EMI FC 1

Living up to the family name, Kassa Votmk was the star as the Seven Pillars Institute Voyagers defeated EMI FC by a score of 2-1 on the first game of the World Next Generation Tournament. Kassa, the younger sister of Loria Votmk, star forward of the Pyria Thunder and the Imperial National Squad, scored two goals in the game. The first came on a breakaway in the fifty-first when she deftly avoided two defenders and calmly slotted the ball into the goal.

In the eighty-third, with the score tied at 1-1, Kassa reminded everyone of Loria when she did the trademark Votmk move - scoring by hitting the ball with her shell. Being a Xe'Notl, where the back of a human would be is the turtle's shell, and the Votmk sisters have figured out how to use the angle of the shell to their greatest advantage. Nasienne Vincent crossed the ball, and after faking a header, Kassa calmly hit it with her shell into the goal, scoring the game-winner.

The defense of Hansohai, Issu, Oksan, and Rolfe held their opponents to only ten shots on goal, for the only lapse for the Voyagers came when a EMI FC forward was tackled in the penalty box. Yasmine managed to get hand on the penalty, but the ball glanced off her hands into the goal.

Seven Pillars Institute is the only institute of all girls in the competition, and looks forward to playing other teams.

The School of Champions 2, Eindhoven Lions 0

Patrick Iswan was dominant in goal as the Dreadnoughts shut out the Lions 2-0.

The goalkeeper from Isildar was brilliant, recording twenty-two saves as the Defense was shredded by the Lions. On the other end of the pitch, Indartsu bat Zaidari showed off his dominance by scoring two spectacular goals.

Zehazten Indartsu bat Zaindari curved a ball into the left post and also scored on a breakaway. Juke had the assist on both of the goals.

Manager Ivan Hans did express concern by the lack of defense, but gave credit where it was due to the Midfield, which had to help out the defense a lot during the course of the game.

The Torpedoes came out on the attack. "Take it easy," Loshe had said, "don't push too hard at first," but it had all come apart quickly. Seventeen minutes in, Juno Sabatka had left M'Bonga Yusofa clear on goal, and barely twenty minutes later Isaac Chivuta set up Collins Chamanga for another.

Yet as exhausted as they felt, they were skittish at halftime. "Slow down," she said. "Toyra, Mukin, don't let the extra attacker scare you off--keep control of possession back in our half, you still outnumber them. One match at a time."

"It's two goals," Talia whispered to Raysil as they walked back out. "Two goals are easy, we know that."

It was half-hearted--they were the only ones who had it easy, back home--but Raysil gave a grateful smile.

And it didn't come easy. Oh, there was Raysil and there was Toyvin, but the Torpedoes kept moving. For just an instant at a time, things would freeze up and it'd be like one of those cone drills that Toyvin liked (he made up his own challenges when it was just them, set up his own puzzles to beat), but a second later everything would be different and they couldn't keep pace.

They ultimately got one back, on a fluke; Gaybrin had a long throw-in, Dintelf came up to meet it with a header, Depper came up with it at the other end and dribbled around Morgan Mulungu before scoring.

And six minutes later, after a corner kick, Toyvin passed to Raysil. For a second Talia felt wildly hopeful that that would be the equalizer, but Raysil was feeling nothing more than the itch to drive forward; a moment later, a nice tackle from Francis Abondé had won the ball away.

Toyvin gave an inward What was that all about? smirk; Talia rolled her eyes, but Raysil just seemed confused, and they weren't able to muster up anything else.

That night in the hotel they were keyed up, frenetic, unable to get to sleep and (mostly Dobber) gorging themselves on junk food. But back in Earent, ind in a dozen different academies, across a dozen different cell phones, the mood was almost as dour.

If Stroyf look lifeless, it's probably a good thing we didn't send anybody else...

I can't take credit for all the ideas here--some of them are other people's but they've let me run with them.

Newland National Youth FC 1-1 Golden Phoniex
Despite the goal scored by Tiziano Benedetto and his threats towards the NNYFC's defence,Golden Phoniex was unable to win the match and they ended up in the
same fate as their Mapletish counter-parts Home United who drew Académie Altafrique with a goal from Nando in the 54th minute.Although the one man attack
was not as efficient as they were in Mapletish,Golden Phoniex eat up on the procession with a total of 65% in both halves controlling much of the match proving to be
a threat to the opponent's defence.

WNGT: Mixed showing from the youngsters

Yes I'm back, and this time with more poor graphs! After a rather good showing at the DBC, more youngsters from Ipeland are playing in an international tournament, this time for Under 18s. Two teams, the maximum allowed, have been entered: Walkden U18s, the winners of the U18 league, and Burnden Park Academy, who were drawn from a random pot.

Walkden U18 2-1 Skyline FC
Walkden U18s have won their first game against Mangolana's Skyline FC, a close fought 2-1 battle. Skyline took the lead after 15 minutes, in which they dominated. They dominated the rest of the half, but were unable to even get the ball near the net. After the half time break, the match evened out. Ipeland hit the Skyline team on the counter attack, and a few passes later the ball was in the goal, Alex Holmes taking credit. The match was even for the rest of the half, but Ipeland somehow won the game on the 88th minute, Jesse Adams doing some tricks around a few defenders before neatly slotting home.

Image
Red= Walkden U18
White=Skyline FC
Yellow squares= Yellow cards
Middle of the field

As per normal in most of Ipeland games, the middle of the field was essential. The poorly drawn diagram to the right shows the successful and unsuccessful tackles in midfield in a random 7 minutes of the second half. As you can see, it was fairly even, Skyline having a slight upper hand. Another thing to note is the yellow cards, three in thirteen minutes, which shows there was a fair bit of reckless tackling going on. There were 12 fouls in those thirteen minutes, but the rest of the tackles were timed rather well.

This also begs the question, why were both teams dispossessed so easily. Even though Walkden didn't have any experience of any international teams against them, and the rest of the U18 league being not very good, having won all of the titles since it's inception in 2010, you would still think that they should've trained for this. The same question probably goes for Skyline FC too, but on a slightly smaller scale.

Another puzzler is why the referee was so lenient, only giving out 3 yellow cards for the 12 fouls committed by those teams. At least 6 of them should've been given a yellow card, and, despite this have being tossed around hundreds of times, the referee did seem a little bit biased, as the majority of those fouls were committed by Skyline, and another few tackles by them were also dubious.

Athens Town 1-0 Burnden Park Academy
A disappointing loss for the Burnden Park boys, despite being underdogs for the game against Civil Citizenry's Athens Town. Athens got off to a flyer in the first half, as Burnden's defence were simply lost at the start of the game. An Athens midfielder rounded defenders with ease, before passing it over the keeper to a striker, who tapped it into the empty net. The Burnden defence regained sense and strengthened, as Athens could not score another goal for the whole game despite having the ball 77% of the time. In the end, Burnden were relieved to hear the final whistle goal, and the loss was kept down to only one goal.

Mixed Success In First Next Generation Tournament Matchday

The first matchday of three in the Next Generation Tournament went very well for one of the Erathi teams and not so well for the other. We'll start off with the good performance.

Niccostrato's youth squad dismantled the Arsenrall Academy by a whooping 6-nil scoreline. A complete rout. The team captain from Astograth, contributed four assists during the game. Mallon Axton, the sole Citiz on the team, nabbed a hattrick of the goal variety in the wildly one sided affair. Xavier Abarrotiz got the scoring started in the 11th minute when his shot from distance took a deflection off an Arsenrall player and slide by the hopeless goalkeeper. Axton scored his first of the night in the 18th minute, then another in the 26th.
The score going into halftime was three-nil. Team captain and one of the hottest youth prospects in Erathore Burutzagi Bidaiyet added a fourth in the 52nd minute. Mallon Axton completed his hattrick in the 61st minute. The last goal of the game came from the 15 year old substitute Alexander Van Marco Boristin in the 73rd minute of play.

EMI FC's youth squad didn't do as well as Niccostrato's. The Young Guns lost 2-1 to the Seven Pillars Institute. The team really didn't look like they knew what they were doing as they lost 2-1. Rather the majority of the team didn't look like they knew what they were doing. Team captain Bryson Pavel seemed to have his head screwed on right as he played his heart out and tried to rally the team to no avail. Better luck next go around.
