The Unbidden Communist Republic of Yesopalitha proudly announces the inaugural season of the Yesopalitha Basketball League. With the Yesopalitha Sports Committee starting to receive more funding, a Basketball League was formed. It was decided that Football stars of Yesopalitha would play overseas in Falconfar or other venues while other sports would possibly be introduced as leagues to the public. The first of those was basketball, Yesopalitha's passion.

With star player Bethany Dickinson on board, the Freedom's Altar Holy Templars are expected to win the inaugural season of the YBL.

Top two teams secure a spot on the IUBC, while the next four play for the right to be in it. Then, the winners play the top two and so on until a champion is decided.

Cotdelapomais Basketball Championship

Basketball in Cotdelapoms is a remarkably minor sport, and teams other than the Albionpool Capitals tend to draw 1000 or so fans per game. The Caps are a popular draw, bringing in about 5000, which still puts them well below any of the major sports.

Consider this as a bump, and an executive decision to delay the cutoff for this by a week, to April 29th, 2012, at 7PM PDT, with the hopes that more nations will be able to finish their domestic seasons in time...

The inaugural season of The Icemark Basketball League has just concluded. Despite the fact that the sport is not very popular, The Sports Minister created the league in a bid to rise the profile of the game, just as he did with Ice Hockey.
Funding has been hard to come by, so most of the matches have been played on open outside courts, subject to the elements. Interest and attendance have been described as not great, but satisfactory for a first season.

Frostmarris have been crowned the first champions of the league. It was a neck and neck battle with the small costal town of Michael's Bay for the entire season, until they met on the penultimate day, and Frostmarris secured the league title, followed by the play/offs in convincing style.
Everyone expected a Frostmarris and Michael's Bay final in The Icemark Shield, so it was a surprise when both were eliminated in the Semi-Finals. The Final became very important, as it was between Bendis and Old Haven. Old Haven would take Bendis spot in the IUBC if they won, even though they finished lower in the league. Bendis managed to prevail in the end with a convincing display to be the first Shield winners.

As laid out in this post, the BetAvalanche.kpz National Basketball Championship runs on a two year cycle. As such, the next season is currently in progress, and the league cannot at this time submit "new" participants. With the IUBC's permission, however, Kagdazka and Pazhujebu will resubmit the same four sides as last year.

IUBC FINAL STADIUM BID
Left Forth Stadium -- Briarshaw, Civil Citizenry

Left Forth Stadium is the home of the Briarshaw Squirrels, which reached the semifinals of the Henderson Trophy. The stadium seats just over 19,000 fans. It hosted several NSCAA Tournament games and several major International Basketball Championships games. The stadium is well-equipped to host at full capacity. Briarshaw is one of the fastest-growing cities in the country, and one of the most rabid for sports (as well as one of the coldest).

Ko-orenite National Basketball League - Season 1

National League Pld W L PF PA PD Pts

5 Aj Uin Elves 30 16 11 2411 2336 +75 51 Play-offs
6 Othushun Giants 30 17 13 2384 2322 +62 51 Play-offs
7 Sishinova White Diamonds 30 17 13 2321 2343 −22 51 Play-offs
8 Arelothun Lords 30 15 14 2340 2337 +3 46 Play-offs

9 Kthosl Lions 30 14 16 2376 2346 +30 42
10 Vnoskjulung Bears 30 13 17 2310 2340 −30 39
11 Ko-oren Capitals 30 12 16 2313 2380 −67 38
12 Hogone Sapphires 30 12 17 2316 2355 −39 37
13 Ong Westerners 30 12 17 2274 2321 −47 37
14 Engbrothun Marines 30 12 17 2355 2412 −57 37
15 Uzhotu Silvers 30 11 19 2219 2363 −144 33
16 Rabth Eagles 30 10 19 2308 2325 −17 31

The top eight teams qualified for the play-offs to decide which teams are Ko-orens best and will play in the IUBC. In the regular season, Blues just managed to stay in front of the Tazers and the Dominators, while the biggest gaps remained around spots 7-9. There is a five-point gap between the White Diamonds and the Lords, and another 4 point gap between the Lords and the Lions. All in all, the teams stay close together, with no exceptional differences in PD, though the top 2 have a +94 and +93, and second-to-last Silvers got a huge -144.

The play-off round 1 is as follows:

Blues - Lords
Tazers - White Diamonds
Dominators - Giants
Blizzards - Elves

KNBL Play-off Round 1
Kangutsu Blues 85–72 Arelothun Lords
Ka Uin Tazers 64–78 Sishinova White Diamonds
Jeknolr Dominators 80–90 Othushun Giants
Maethoru Blizzards 77–78 Aj Uin Elves

There were no big surprises in the first round of the play-offs: regular season champions Blues beat the Lords by some distance, the White Diamonds slaughtered the Tazers though they did not got that many points in. The Giants were the best team offense-wise, but still conceded 80 against the Dominators. Numbers 4 and 5 Blizzards and Elves had the smallest difference, but the Elves edged the Blizzards out in a stunningly suspenseful match: 77-78. This gave the following match-up in the second round:
Blues - Elves
White Diamonds - Giants

KNBL Play-off Round 2
Kangutsu Blues 69–52 Aj Uin Elves
Sishinova White Diamonds 78–76 Othushun Giants

The Blues beat the Elves in a low-scoring match, but the good thing for both teams was that they did not concede a lot. Both teams were, before the play-offs started, tipped as the biggest contenders for the post-play-off title, but already matched up against each other in the second round. The biggest mistakes in this match came from the Elves, who seemed as nerves got the better of them when in offense, scoring only 52. In the other match, the White Diamonds pulled a win from the Giants, who lead during most of the match. In the final seconds, the White Diamonds were fouled against and managed to get a win in the match. It reminded most of the Blizzards vs. Elves match in Round 1, where the difference was only 1 (77-78), now 2 (78-76). The play-off final was as follows: Blues - White Diamonds.

KNBL Season Final
Kangutsu Blues 63–86 Sishinova White Diamonds

The first season of the KNBL is over, and has the White Diamonds from Síshínóvá as winners! Though their opponents in this match, the Blues, were regular season champions, the White Diamonds started playing better near the season ended, and showed that they have the longest concentration span, as they beat the Blues 63-86, not a small difference. This means that

IUBC Qualifiers:
Sishinova White Diamonds
Kangutsu Blues
Othushun Giants
Aj Uin Elves

Commiserations to Filopines, which had none of its teams make it to the group stage. Every other nation has at least one team. The top two teams make it to the Round of 16, which will be seeded.
Finals Bids
There were two bids to host the IUBC 2 Final, one from the Oak Air Centre of Cotdelapoms and the other from Left Forth Stadium in Briarshaw, Civil Citizenry. After deliberation, the IUBC board decided that both bids were fantastic; hence, they decided to use a Random Number Generator to generate the result. Zero was used to signify the Cotdelapomi bid and 1 to represent the Citiz bid. 1 was the result, and hence, the Left Forth Stadium in Briarshaw, Civil Citizenry will host the second finals of the IUBC.
