Sponsorship Bid

The board of trustees of the IUBC met in their headquarters in Irswabi, Falcon, Falconfar to discuss which of the sponsorship bids should become the sponsor of the next five editions of the IUBC, as Polarian Restaurant Chain Fjorkiss's contract expires at the end of this IUBC. ITV from the Northern Sunrise Islands, Arcadian Air from the Arcadian Islands, and WesternFinance of Valladares were accepted as bids to sponsor. The trustees decided to have the voting go two rounds:
Round 1: WesternFinance 4, Arcadian Air 3, ITV 2 ITV eliminated
Round 2: Arcadian Air 5, WesternFinance 4 WesternFinance eliminated
Congratulations to ArcadianAir from the Arcadian Islands, the IUBC's sponsor for IUBC VI - IUBC X!
Finals Bid

The board of trustees also had to decide on the venue of the IUBC V Final. The bids of Fishburn Stadium of Arcadian Islands and Jewel of the North Financial Arena of Sicoutimont were accepted.
Round 1: Fishburn Stadium 6, Jewel of the North Financial Arena 3 Jewel of the North Financial Arena eliminated
Congratulations to Fishburn Stadium of the Arcadian Islands, the IUBC Finals venue for IUBC V!
IUBC V Draw

Fifty-six teams from fourteen associations entered the fifth edition of club basketball's top tournament, the IUBC. Though this number is less than previous editions, it is still a number that requires preliminary rounds to narrow the field to the ideal thirty-two for the Group Stage.

Due to the fewer number of teams, the draw was held thus:

Falconfar and Taeshan: As the top two teams in the IUBC rankings, will submit their lowest ranked team to the Qualification Round and their other three teams to the Group Stage.
Yesopalitha and Civil Citizenry: As the next two teams in the IUBC rankings, will submit their two lowest ranked teams to the Qualification Round and their other two teams to the Group Stage. (Since Freedom's Altar Holy Templars, defending Champions, made it to the top two of the Yesopalithan league, they will not have any special precedence.)
Darmen and Valladares: As the next two teams in the IUBC rankings, will submit their three lowest ranked teams to the Qualification Round and their top team to the Group Stage.
Michael VII and Free South Califas: As the next two teams in the IUBC rankings, will submit all four of their teams to the Qualification Round.
The Icemark, Ko-Oren, Arcadian Islands, and Northern Sunrise Islands: As the next four teams in the IUBC rankings, will submit their lowest ranked team to the Playoff Round and their other three teams to the Qualification Round.
North Blue Island and Sicoutimont: As the two new associations to the IUBC, will submit their two lowest ranked teams to the Playoff Round and their two highest ranked teams to the Qualification Round.

I will get to this I promise. With the social and intellectual impacts about college, though, idk how reliable I can be from now on scorinating something like this monthly. Perhaps after I finish this edition someone else can take over? Apologies to all.

Held @ Fishburn Stadium, Arcadian Islands
Freedom's Altar Holy Templars (YSP) 83–94 Wurlington Dynamos (FAL)
Wurlington Dynamos (FAL) 74–64 Freedom's Altar Holy Templars (YSP)

And the Dynamos become the second team to win two titles after the Trewich Urbanites of Civil Citizenry.

Coefficients will be updated in due time.

I apologize for how much time it took to scorinate this. I hope that this is an anomaly, and that I will be able to get things done in a week like usual next time.

Submitting entrants to IUBC VI is now open. Every nation is allowed to send four teams. Wurlington Dynamos of Falconfar will take the place of Falconfar's fourth entry if they do not make it through Falconfar's domestic league.

Also, bidding to host the final of IUBC VI is also open.

Both of those will be cutoff at Sunday, October 14, 2012, at 7:00 PDT.

Thanks to everyone for participating!

Due to college life draining my commitment and time, I am going to be withdrawing from every other club competition than the baseball and football ones, and possibly be only accomplishing minor RP's in every contest except for the world cup. Which means, unless someone else wants to take over, the IUBC will be indefinitely put on hold. If you are curious to run it, and would like some pointers on how, feel free to TG me. Otherwise, I am sorry. Other things matter more to me in my life now.

Thanks,

Shadows of dust are hanging over basket courts all over the multiverse. For what seems to be decades (but might have been near a year), international basketballing has limited itself for national sides competing, notwithstanding a unique college effort. However, what will be named the Dark Ages of Basketball by paleontologists in latter years has come to an end as Sangti and Buyan present to you... the resurrected IUBC.

International Union of Basketball Clubs

If you don’t like reading, scroll down for a short version.

What is the IUBC?

The International Union of Basketball Clubs will be the central header which unites two world basketball club competitions. These tournaments, the Trophy of Champions and the Falcon Plate, are to be contested by domestic club teams. Nations can enlist teams by sharing the details from their domestic leagues, whilst indicating the sign-up for their teams. The IUBC aims to encourage the appeal of basketball on NS Sports and will organise their tournaments approximately three times between each two IBC cycles.

What are the tournaments?

First of all, there is the Trophy of Champions. In said tournament, any nation will be able to enlist two teams based upon their domestic performances if the necessary league results are presented. This tournament should be seen as the first tier of the IUBC competitions.

Secondly, we have the Falcon Plate. In this cup, a variable number of teams, depending on the strength of your domestic league, will be able to participate. However, the rank bonus is significantly smaller in order to balance and allow newer federations to have their chance at glory.

Who’s behind all this?

Two nations which might be considered as youngsters in the field of NS Sports, but it must be said that they did not started upon this rashly.

Sangti might be only around for three months now, but he showed already to have the good spirit. After consistent RPing in the World Baseball Classic 26, the Baptism of Fire 52, the Handball World Cup 10 and the Market Cup VI, he decided to step up on the hosting field and scorinated tournaments such as the International Baseball Slam and the IFSC IV and has grown into an active force in the Esportiva region.

Buyan is probably not much of a familiar name in NS Sports, having shared with you only a few domestic leagues. The user behind Buyan, Some Village, might ring a bell. Some Village started RPing in the SSWC IV and the Korfball Classic, but is probably best known for his hosting of the World Tour of Cycling and the two editions of the Island Tour.

Together, Sangti and Buyan contacted a few of the grey and wise from NS Sports before revealing these plans, in order to make sure that this becomes a tournament with tradition, respected by the complete community.

But... Wasn’t there already a basketball competition... Named the IUBC?

There used to be, indeed. Unfortunately, the previous IUBC has gone uncontested since october last year. After running five smooth editions, RL reasons urged Yesopalitha/Falconfar to set the tournament on hold.

We have contacted Yesopalitha before we brought this tournament to you and received an endorsement to continue this name. We are honoured that we are given this permission and decided to name the second tournament the Falcon Plate, to recall the efforts done by Yesopalitha for international domestic basketball.

Cool plans but... How will all of this work?

1. Sign-ups

First of all, there will be time to tip in your domestic competitions in the International Basketball Domestic Newswire thread. We are aiming at intervals of six weeks during which each nation receives the time to scorinate and RP a domestic competition. A maximum of one puppet competition is allowed, but this must be declared in the post.

In this post, each nation will point out which teams they want to participate, preferably by using a sign-up box. For the first edition, each nation can sign up two teams for the Trophy of Champions and two for the Falcon Plate. In later editions, this will change to two for the Trophy of Champions and two to four in the Falcon Plate.

The cut-off date and moment will be clearly announced.

2. The Trophy of Champions

The actual Trophy of Champions will contain sixteen teams, with a group stage format, quarterfinals and a Final Four tournament. The group stages will have four groups of four and will be conducted by double round-robin. The quarterfinals and semi-finals will be best of five, with the the final will be a best of seven games, each of them played on a certain location, bidding for this is allowed.

If the amount of participants is higher than sixteen, the eight leagues with the highest rank will have one spot in the competition. The remaining eight places will be decided by qualification games, one-off without home advantage. The exact format will of course depend on the amount of participants.

Scorination will happen with xkoronate. Participating ‘champions’ will partake with full rank bonus. Participating ‘seconds’ (not necessarily the runner-up, it could be a domestic cup winner as well) will participate with 70% of their rank bonus.

Last year’s champion does not automatically return.

3. The Falcon Plate

For the Falcon Plate, we see the participation of four teams from the top four leagues, three teams from the numbers five up until twelve and two teams from the other leagues, both new and previous participants. All participants will partake with 40% of their rank, in order to encourage upsets and to give an incentive for newer teams.

The main format will be a double round-robin with eight groups of four. Afterwards will follow home-and-away games until a Final Four will be played. This will be one-off semi-finals, a third place match and a final in one location. This is another location on which bids are allowed. If for neither (Trophy of Champions Final/Falcon Plate Final Four) a bid comes in, these will be played in Sangti and Buyan. Scorination happens once again with xkoronate.

If less than 32 teams sign up, the amount of groups will be limited. By example, with 24 sign-ups, there will be six groups of four and sixteen teams that continue to the next round. Group sizes will not be expanded.

If more than 32 teams sign up, qualification rounds will be played between the ‘last ones signed up’ (4th team from top four leagues, 3th team from league 5-12, 2nd team from the other teams) with a maximum of two rounds. If more rounds would be needed in that format, the ‘second ones signed up’ join the qualification round and so on.

4. The Ranks

National ranks are determined by making the addition of the the top-five ranks from the clubs from their league.

Club ranks from new nations are zero, while new clubs from established leagues receive one sixth of the national rank.

The rank degrades over the years by taking 100% of last tournament X, 70% of tournament X-1 and 40% of tournament X-2.

Club ranks are calculated as follows:

For participation in the Trophy of Champions, a team receives 12 points. If said team is eliminated in the qualification stage, it receives 6 points if there is one round of qualifiers and 4 or 8 (depending on which round they were eliminated) if there are two rounds.

A victory in the Trophy of Champions adds 4 points (a victory in the QF, SF and F counted as 1,5 point). The Trophy winner receives two additional points.

For participation in the Falcon Plate, a team receives 4 points. If said team is eliminated in the qualification stage, it receives 2 points if there is one round of qualifiers and 1,5/3 if there are two rounds.

A victory in the Falcon Plate adds 1,5 points. The Plate winner receives two additional points.

5. Additional info

* Draws will not be allowed in any tournament, not in the group phase, not in the play-offs.

* RP Bonus exists but is not substantial as this is not an RPed tournament, but a international club tournament.

Short version!

Two nations, Sangti and Buyan, are going to revive the IUBC. The IUBC is a international club tournament for NS basketball. Those two nations might be young in terms of NS experience, but have shown host dedication already (IFSC IV and IBS II for Sangti, WToC and Island Tour for Buyan/Some Village) and received the blessing from Yesopalitha, previous owner of this tournament, to organise a new IUBC.

This resurrected IUBC will contain two tournaments, the Trophy of Champions and the Falcon Plate. The first one is it a first tier tournament in which every nation can tip in two teams. The format has rather strong rank bonus and ends with NBA-styled play-offs after a group stage. Bidding for becoming the host of that final is encouraged.

The Falcon Plate is the second tier of the IUBC and will have a lower rank influence to allow upsets. This to allow new nations to break into the international scene more easily. In the first edition, you’ll be allowed two participants as well, but this number may rise in later editions according to your performance. There is also a Final Four which requires a host bid after a tournament which contained a group stage and home-and-away games.

I want to participate!

Post your league in the International Basketball Newswires thread and create a sign-up box to indicate which teams will participate in either tournament (two each). Post the best team (according to performances) first. You’re allowed to bid for a location of either final (Trophy of Champions best-of-seven or the Falcon Plate Final Four).

To the nations that already posted their league (Allinlia, Northern Sunrise Islands, Texacano, Buyan,Sangti), you can alter your sign-up boxes, otherwise we’ll presume that the first two qualify for the Trophy of Champions and the next two for the Falcon Plate.

Cut-off date for the first tournament will be the 26th of August. Any questions? Please go to the International Basketball OOC Thread!

Season 8

The Ko-orenite league still went on even though the IUBC was not there. The Sishinova White Diamonds were arguably the most successful team during that period, though they had some problems during this season:

(IUBC qualifiers)
1. Othushun Giants
2. Hogone Sapphires
3. Ka Uin Tazers
4. Ong Westerners

Some of the biggest teams of the league forgot to qualify: the White Diamonds, first and foremost. Then the Blues also lost in the playoffs...

In light of Ukrainya's interest, I will change my bid to be for the ToC final just for simplicity's sake. Ukrainya, if you'd rather have the ToC, just TG me and we can straighten it out.
