Nationstates Grand Prix III - RP & Results Thread

Postby Vilita » Sun Nov 06, 2011 7:43 pm

Signup Thread is here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=147298

The NSGP is an OpenWheel racing championship where nations compete against each other. The "scorination" is done using the Standalone Batracer (http://batracer.com/-1FrontPage.htm?1Md) engine which allows two ways for a driver to be competitive, through earning speed increases through RP Bonus, or, by fine tuning their setup each day in the batracer engine (or both.).

The engine mimics real life racing series and allows custom team, driver and paint schemes.

The Current World Rankings:

001 Vilita & Turori Islands [ 253.00 ]
002 Polar Islandstates [ 234.00 ]
003 Whittoria [ 199.00 ]
004 The Kytler Peninsulae [ 195.00 ]
005 Phoenigetuzstha [ 107.00 ]

006 Team patricant [ 102.00 ]
007 Chinese Regions [ 86.00 ]
008 Mangolana Racing [ 78.00 ]
008 New Montreal States [ 78.00 ]
010 Cotdelapoms [ 74.00 ]
011 Audioslavia [ 71.00 ]
012 Delaclava [ 66.00 ]
013 COSUMAR [ 64.00 ]
014 The Sylvanaes Queendom [ 58.00 ]
015 Swartaz [ 54.00 ]
016 ASMV [ 49.00 ]

The rankings are not used in calculation, but are used for signups for subsequent editions. The top 5 ranked nations are always guaranteed entry into the next edition if they apply.

RP Bonus is applied After each race, with the cutoff being the drop of the checkered flag for the race (So, RP's post Race #1 won't count towards the bonus until Race #3, as the RP Bonus for Race #2 is locked the moment the Checkered Flag drops in Race #1.)

RP Bonus is applied in the form of a faster "maximum" lap time around the track. There are also random bonuses applied throughout the season to each car type. RP Bonus will be cumulative.

The Regional Title will be competed for by any regions with 3 or more entrants in the competition. The performance of the Top 3 drivers of a region will be accumulated to determine the Regional Champions.

The scorinator is external and requires signup @ the URL Above in order to compete

Phoenigetuzstha poor in practise
The Phoenigetuzsthan team seemed to be on a high after scarcely qualifying for an automatic place for the new seasons event, yet in practice, Phoenigetuzstha, with their new car & livery sit in a dismal 6th in practise, only topping two newcomers, Yellow Apple & Lemmingtopias. Phoenigetuzstha's fastest lap only being 17th, it seems the team will have a tough year. Zaharbal Getutha, brother of Joseph said: "I'm honoured to be part of the team, and I think people need to remember that my brother also started poorly, people should judge me when we have had a few races,"
In other news Phoenigetuzstha has won 5-3 against...

NS Grand Prix III Kicks off!

The Nationstates Grand Prix III has kicked off and once embattled Vilita & Turori Islands driver Gary Cook has returned to his seat in attempts to defend Vilita & Turori's championship from Nationstates Grand Prix II. There will be many familiar faces in the crowd this season as the Polar Islandstates, Whittoria, The Kytler Peninsulae, Delaclava and Phoenigetuzstha have all begun the season without making any driver changes from the previous season.

Whittoria's Moses Cunningham led the opening practice session but it was GPII Runner Up Jakkob Bordarenko of the Polar Islandstates that got the early jump in the title race securing pole position and the seasons first point.

Five nations made their first ever GPII laps in the qualifying session, having not had their cars ready in time to participate in the first practice session. Not surprisingly, the cars of the Cafundeu, Ocel0t, Delaclava, Ipeland and Soviet Canuckistan motorsport teams were slowest in qualifying session, each being 4 seconds or greater off Bordarenko's pace.

It will be an exciting new season mixed with familiar foes and new threats, but Vilita & Turori are the only motorsport team in the field who can call themselves World Champions, and they will look to keep it that way come the end of 17 races.

YellowApplan NS-GP Garage
Immediately after announcement of qualification times

Soarin' continued to ponder over the results of his qualifying run. These gasoline-powered automobiles were quite unusual, and the discomfort from the unusual noises and scents associated with the other teams' petrol engines had clearly hampered his practice times, but at least he was now finally coming to terms with this beast of an activity and managing a... decent qualification placement, starting at 8th. It was certainly quite impressive in his own mind; it was the first time he had competitively driven one of these "Formula One" automobiles in an international setting, and was likely the first time any sapient equine had done so.

Nonetheless, he couldn't allow his hooves to be an excuse; the magnetic grippers he installed on the steering wheel and his custom-made gloves still took some getting used to, as did the nauseating scent of the horrid gasoline engines he was constantly exposed to, but that was exactly what he signed up for.

The Soviet Canuckistani racer was also a bit of a concern; sure, this wasn't a war, but the known policy against equines - equines like Soarin' - displayed in that country would likely cause some... issues with the Canuckistani contestant. Soarin' thus was constantly on guard, with both him and his pit crews keeping a close eye out for anything suspicious.

Now wasn't the time for paranoia, however. Soarin', after having quite thoroughly examined his printed copy of the qualifying results, proceeded out of his makeshift office and into the garage. His crew chief, a unicorn-type equine by the name of Ratchet, was barking orders at his subordinates.

"Alright, ¡now loosen the forward ARB!"

Ratchet turned to Soarin' as the latter approached, smiling quite proudly.

"¡Nice work, Soarin'! 8th place. Ain't bad, for your first qualifier."

"Yeah, but it's not good enough yet."

"Now don't do anything stupid. Pole is nice to have, but even top 8 is better than nothin'. Maybe some practice runs would help you out. I can sure use a test of my calculations."

"Yeah, alright. I'm just nervous."

"I know you are, colt. There's a lot of pressure on you right now. You're the first YellowApplan driver in an international circuit. Ever. And you've got millions of YellowApplans up in the skies watching your every move come race day. No pressure."

Soarin' smiled sarcastically.

"Gee, thanks."

"No problem. Now suit up, we've gotta get this thing absolutely perfect come race day. That is, unless you feel like turning into a big ol' fireball on the track."

Ratchet then laughed as he turned back to the crews scrambling around the car to bark more orders at them. Soarin' simply chuckled and shook his head a bit as he returned to his office for his helmet and racing gloves, hoping that continued practice runs would help bump up his performance a bit more before his first race.

My switch is going well.
[Article by Alexander Tingis (Driver), Edited by Matthew Pedroson (Motorsports Editor)]

Well, as all you motoring enthusiasts will know, I've switched out Whittorian racing and into the NSGP, just because I want to know how these cars work. Well, as a newcomer (which the rest of the team are as well), we've done rather well for ourselves. We've managed to get the car set up for the first race of the season, in Bicentennial Park, the home race of the Lemmingtopian driver, Lefteris Maniadakis. Anyways, I managed to get the car round the track in the second fastest time, just under 7 hundredths of a second off Moses Cunningham's time of 1:04.544, and that means I'm good enough to fight with the top end of last year's automatic qualifiers.

That good form didn't last though, as qualifying came around and I failed to match my practice times, so I fell to sixth on the grid. But being seven tenths off pole and then 1.4 seconds ahead of the guy behind me has to account for something, doesn't it? Anyways, the start will be very important, and I'm writing this having just tweaked the car in the warm-up before the race. The surprise came after my fifth run, in which I finally managed to break the 1:04 mark with a 1:03.991 time. And that puts us in good stead for the race. This is Alexander Tingis, signing off.

Judging from the qualifying times for the first NSGP3 race, there will be the same problems as NSGP2 with ill-prepared back-markers, but with only thirteen in the field and six posting genuinely competitive times, it looks like there'll be a bit more competition and a bit less of the back-marker brutality this time.

Naturally, Ellad Sadiques was amongst those posting competitive times, though he will have to settle for fourth as Jakkob Bordarenko takes what will be the first of many Polarian pole positions. Just the name makes it inevitable, doesn't it?

Sadiques said his performance was "not great", but added that he "probably played safe just to get a decent time on the board... I did just that, and I'm looking forward to the race." Sadiques may have been more defensive as the team has switched this year to the Loller chassis, which is noted for its "OMGWTF" handling when compared to the Kaynard that was the basis of the Kytlerian car last time. "You have to be more careful in this car, but you get more speed if you get it right. So far I have not got it exactly right, but I know I will. Watch out when I do!"

Moses Cunningham joins Bordarenko on the front row, with defending champion Gary Cook in third, meaning the top four from last year fill the top four on the starting grid at Bicentennial Park. Zaharbal Getutha was fifth, and the Phoenigetuzstha team would appear to be in a much better position this year than last to threaten the leaders over an entire season. Alexander Tingis from Eastfield Lodge was the top debutant in sixth, after which there was a gap to the remainder of the field.

Bicentennial Park
Race Day

The car seemed to be doing quite well on the warm-up lap. Soarin' was finally accustomed to his magnetic steering gloves, and thus was significantly more confident in his ability to steer. Of course, the petrol of the other cars around him as he coasted into the 8th position continued to be a bit nauseating, but after several days of being exposed to it, Soarin' had finally overcome the headaches, and he knew that, once he started moving again, he'd be able to focus a bit more.

It's go time.

Soarin' took in a deep, slow breath, pacing it with the activation of each of the lights, holding the breath for what seemed to be an eternity.

All five lights then extinguished.

With a powerful exhale, Soarin' pushed down on the accelerator, the forces of his car giving him the rush of adrenaline and fresh air he needed to cleanse his nostrils and brain of the gasoline fumes. By the end of the first turn, he noted his first target to overtake: a green and red car just in front of him. Overtaking this car was troublesome, with the battle for Position 7 taking the entire lap, but just a couple of turns into Lap 2, Soarin' saw the opportunity to pass and took it, slipping past the green and red car into 7th place.

The next car - a red and black one - was much harder to overtake; it took a full lap to catch up to that racer, and the driver of the other car initially seemed to be immune to Soarin's attempt to slip by via the inside of a turn. This was, at first, quite frustrating; Soarin' wasn't necessarily bent on winning, but he needed to make this count for him, for his crew, and for all of YellowApple watching.

With another deep breath, Soarin' caught back up to his target and, with a bit of luck, managed to slip the nose of his car a bit past the rear of the other on the inside of a turn, making the rest of the pass quite simple. He was now well into 6th place by the fourth lap.

Next was a green and yellow car. Soarin' bided his time with this one; there didn't seem to be much of a clear passing opportunity, and drafting seemed to be far more ideal. He followed the car in front of him for several laps, waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike, before finally finding that opportunity on Lap 8.

Soarin' didn't hesitate at all; right as he and his adversary reached turn one, Soarin' pulled into position to work his way to the side of the car in front of him. The process was quite tedious, and Soarin' struggled with the constant balancing act with the required aggression and finesse he would need to finally make the pass. With another deliberately slow breath, he pushed even harder to gain on his opponent.

The battle for 5th place lasted for a good two laps. It was a constant tug-of-war for the upper hand, but ultimately, by the start of Lap 11, Soarin' succeeded, whizzing past both this adversary and even past the next one, taking advantage of the draft.

Soarin' continued to pull further and further ahead for the next several laps. Though he couldn't exactly catch the front three racers, he smiled coolly as his prior adversaries seemed to disappear behind him. He was quite alone, and he enjoyed the solitude up until hearing Ratchet's scruffy voice ringing through his headset, telling him to pull in for a pit stop. Soarin' pulled in at the end of Lap 20, a combination of humanoids and equines in high-durability yellow worksuits and square-topped caps pumping fresh liquid H2 into the rear tank and swapping out tires. About a dozen seconds later, Soarin' was on his way once again, knowing that he had likely lost a couple places momentarily.

At this point, solitude seemed to be a norm. Seeing no cars behind or in front of him, Soarin' enjoyed the lack of pressure from the other drivers and thus the ability to maneuver much more freely. The petrol-induced headaches and nausea were gone almost entirely, and though the high amounts of G-forces continued to keep him quite alert, Soarin' began to find this stretch of the race quite relaxing. He had no idea what placement he was in at this point, and quite frankly didn't particularly care, and thus wondered if this was what international racing circuits like this were like. He also wondered how many YellowApplans were watching the race at all, and whether or not they could see him. He was the first YellowApplan participant in any international sports competition, and the nerves caused by that status returned to him for a second, but he quickly shook them off each time he rounded a corner.

Lap 39 marked Ratchet barking yet another call for a scheduled pit stop, and Soarin' coasted into pit alley before starting Lap 40. Yet another tire change and refuel, and Soarin' was back on the track, and a little sooner to boot. The race continued to be quite lonely for Soarin', with the exception of his occasional passing of drivers in the rear; this passing motivated Soarin' to keep pushing faster and faster, not necessarily out of any particular desire to win, but rather out of excitement. Overtaking was quite fun, after all.

Soarin' was surprised by a rather abrupt pit request from Ratchet; it was only 10 laps from the last stop, which seemed odd, but Soarin' complied nonetheless, pulling in for a slightly shorter stop. It seemed that the only excitement he was seeing now was pit stops, and as such he bided his time a bit in the stretch between the 50th and 68th laps. The boredom was starting to tug at him now, and for a moment - just a sliver of a fraction of a second - he spaced out completely. That sliver of a fraction was enough of a second for him to lose track of his positioning coming into Turn Six of Lap 72, and Soarin' snapped out of his infinitesimal doze to realize that he was about to miss the turn.

Soarin' had never pounded on the brakes of a vehicle so hard in his life, and for a second was worried that the tires would skid instead of slow. Those worries were not unfounded, as he soon found himself in a smoking sideways slide. With some quick thinking, he managed to correct himself and regain course, but not without losing about 20 meters per second that he had to get back on his speedometer. The error certainly wasn't unnoticed by Ratchet, who began to scold Soarin' for what was quite obviously an error solely blamable on the driver alone. He tuned out Ratchet's lecturing, however, focusing exclusively on the track.

Soarin's breathing continued to be quite heavy for a good while, all the way through the finish line. As he pulled into pit row and climbed out of the car, he was certainly shaking quite visibly, his wings and ears being the most apparent. Soarin' didn't realize this, of course, at least until his helmet had slid off his head and was hovering in front of his face, a reassuringly-smiling Ratchet on the other side of it with a glowing horn. Soarin' tucked the helmet under his wing, his breaths not really slowing down until Ratchet placed one hoof on Soarin's withers with a smile and a rather comforting tone of voice.

"I know you done screwed up a bit, colt, but ¿you know what? It happens. And hey, you got 5th. Not bad for a first race."

A light chuckle and an equally light punch from a front hoof was enough to get Soarin' to start smiling again and stop shivering, at least enough to respond.

"¿Really? I had no idea. These tracks are pretty weird, you know."

"Yeah, I know, but hey. You're a celebrity now. I hear YANNN's lining up some major press coverage for you, colt. That's somethin' to be mighty proud of."

Soarin' nodded, and Ratchet continued.

"Go rest up. You sure as hell need a kilosecond or so to relax a bit and unwind. I'll take care of getting the car loaded up."

"Alright. Thanks, Ratch."

Ratchet simply smiled and nodded before barking orders at his crewmen, who were quickly occupying themselves with rolling the still partially-heated car onto the trailer of a TAKTRUK Dran 8x4. Soarin' proceeded straight for the nearest bar; by Starswirl's beard, there was no way he was going to do anything without a good dose of liquor.

Conversation between: driver Chris Griffen, reserve driver Peter Tompkins, and team director Steven MacClaren. Time: Just after Chris has got out of his car

"Well done Chris."

"Yeah good work man."

"Thanks guys, I know we were the slowest out there, but we did our best. By the way, what was the time I was behind the leader?"

"637 seconds."

"Or 10 minutes 37 seconds."

"Seems consistent with practice, so we should be looking to improve on that."

"We need to train more, that goes to you to Peter as well."

"More 6 am training again!"

"You feel bad, I got up at 4:30 this morning."

" "

"You'll be getting up earlier too."

"For crying out loud"

"What about tyres for the next qualifying?"

"Slick fast again"

"See where that will put us, maybe 11th/12th."

"We really need to improve our fastest laps."

"Yeah. Well I need to get some rest, see you guys tomorrow."

"Bye"

"See ya"

A stunned silence had fallen over Tingis. His brain wasn't registering any noise, the noise of the Eastfield Lodge pit crew celebrating over the radio, the noise of the car he was in, and the noise of all the cars passing him as he slowed down, even the noise of the crowd cheering what was an enthralling yet relatively clean race.

He came back to full consciousness, just before his mechanic John Gandens said down the radio "Congratulations Tingis, you're first international victory. Enjoy it, you deserved it. You are the master of Bicentennial Park."

It seemed impossible. He was the best of the newcomers in sixth, behind the top five drivers of the previous season, those who knew the capabilities of their cars and the best parts of the track, a luxury not available to him and others. How did it happen?

The grid had lined up, the lights were about to drop and he was focusing on making this start work. The light dropped, and Tingis floored it. The car leapt forward, but so did the cars in front. That did mean he kept clear of Soarin and Maniadakis who fought each other. He kept pace with his nearest adversary, Getutha, and after the smaller straight, tried to cut inside on turn 7, only for the Phoenigetuzsthan to hit the brakes later and keep P5. That didn't stay like that for long though, as on the second lap Tingis pulled out to the left of Getutha for sweeping right and cutting inside him at the end of turn 3, and kept the position running up to turn 4, only 0.1 seconds behind Sadiques. Two laps later, and Sadiques was overtaken, this time with a better run out of turn 3 onto the straight, and passing him with ease. P6 to P4, and most of the race still to go.

Tingis wasn't comfortably ahead of Sadiques, and the front three were pulling away pretty fast as he tried to defend. Then, Bordarenko fell two places in a single lap and evidently had lost speed, as within a lap both Sadiques and Tingis had recovered over 1.5 seconds from the Polarian. Lap 7 had seen Tingis narrowly defend his position on the first turn, before attacking Bordarenko's towards the end of the lap; but the mistake let the Polarian increase his lead while letting the Kytlerian cut his, a story repeated the very next lap. And all this time, Cunningham and Cook were increasing their lead, now at 8 seconds over the Polarian. At this point, Tingis got a radio message from Gandens saying that Soarin was occupying Sadiques, leaving the opportunity to attack Bordarenko, and Tingis responded exactly as required, forcing Bordarenko to give on a corner and let him past. But the effort he had put the tires through was showing, with the gap between him and the leaders increasing by 4 seconds in 6 laps. In the next two laps however, the leaders pitted and gave the lead to Tingis, and with Soarin pitting a few laps later, nearly a whole pit stop ahead of the rest. They had all started on the soft, while Tingis had opted for the Medium tire to start, and that decision had paid off. It stayed like that, and eventually, he registered his first fastest lap of the season on lap 23, lapping 1:04.511, before going faster the next lap. A lap later, he had fallen back to fifth after a disastrous pit lane exit, letting both Bordarenko and Cunningham through unnecessarily while going onto the soft tire.

But within a couple of laps, he was changing that, catching up to and subsequently overtaking Cunningham followed by Getutha pitting from the lead to promote Tingis back to P3 and only 8 seconds off the lead. Having moved up to P2 with Bordarenko pitting, he then posted three more fastest laps, including the only lap time under 1:04 by anyone in the race, to catch Cook and then extend his lead when Cook had pitted. Pitting on lap 38, he took on 19 laps of fuel, with a new set of Soft tires, in order to cover Cook's pit stop. It worked, as Tingis decreased the margin by 5 seconds, and moved up to P2 when Cunningham and Soarin pitted. Cunningham, however, had fresher tires and a lighter fuel load, so he began to catch up. And Cook, with his lighter fuel load, began to distance himself. By lap 48, he'd began to make full defensive manoeuvres and was 6 seconds behind Cook. He then pitted, leaving Tingis in P1 followed unnervingly close by Cunningham, although the nerves disappeared when he pitted on lap 52. Now with a much lighter fuel load than those behind him, he began to increase the gap, pushing it up to 34 seconds when Getutha pitted.

When Tingis pitted for a fresh set of Softs on lap 57, he came out 6 seconds ahead despite having made a drastic mistake on pit entrance. Cook started to fall behind, and was overtaken by Cunningham, who then started to cut the lead between P1 and 2, lap after lap, but was forced to pit from 5 seconds behind, and Tingis once more increased his lead before three of the leading four pitted in lap 75. Here, one incident happened which almost cost the team the victory. Tingis was lapping slightly faster than expected, so when he came into the pits, the mechanics weren't actually ready. The tires were stuck in their heating blankets, and only a few mechanics were out to service the car. In total 14 seconds were wasted, and the other three were now within 6.5 seconds on him. He could hear Gandens hollering at the pit crew over the radio (using a select few words which aren't replayable in flashbacks, but certianly stuck in his head), but the good thing was that he wasn't scheduled another pit stop in the remaining 15 laps. Tingis knew that, and pushed hard, putting in fast lap after fast lap, and pulled away in spectacular fashion, more than tripling the gap between him and Cunningham by the end of the race. Another memory that would stick in his head was that final corner of te race, with Bordarenko being forced to give way for Tingis to lap him. And in reply, Tingis had raised his hand to him, as a gesture of thanks. He kept his hand up and saw the chequered flag drop for him, the first time in a lot of competitive races.

By the time he had finished this flashback, he had found himself on the podium, still hardly daring to believe what had happened.

Surfer's Paradise
Pit Lane, qualification

"¿Ratchet? ¿What's going on?"

"I don't know, Soarin'. Try pushin' the 'celerator a bit this time. Now."

Soarin' gently pushed down on the acceleration pedal as he turned the ignition switch, but to no avail; the quad-rotor hydrogen-combustion Wankel motor behind him just wasn't firing up. The electronics were all in working order, however, and Soarin' swiped the touchscreen control console to the "Engine" screen.

Engine is offline
Current Rotational Speed: _ Hz
H2/O2 intake pressure: _ kN/m^2

"I'm trying again," Soarin' called out.

He watched the console as he rotated the ignition switch again, without pushing down the accelerator.

Engine is starting
Current Rotational Speed: 0002.0000 Hz
H2/O2 intake pressure: 0000.4AB2 kN/m^2

Soarin' pressed down on the accelerator, but the recorded intake pressure was still far too low, not even exceeding half a kilopascal. Switching over to the fuel section, however, revealed a much different picture.

H2/O2 mix ratio: 20F3/110A
H2/O2 mix storage pressure: 04FF.32ED kN/m^2
H2/O2 mix output pressure: 2E98.667A kN/m^2
Storage capacity filled: F9.07%

There seemed to be something wrong between the fuel injection system and the rotors' intakes.

"Hey Ratch," Soarin' called promptly, "¿Care to look at the primary fuel line?"

"Sure thing."

Flashlight in mouth and adjustable motorized wrench hovering nearby, Ratchet popped up the engine shroud, the fuel line - and the maintenance fuel control lever in the "off" position - painfully apparent. Ratchet pushed the small lever to the "on" position with one of his front hooves before calling back to Soarin'.

"Try it now."

Soarin' turned the key yet again, and this time, after about half a second, the rotors began spinning quite happily, as indicated by the rather pleasant humming coming from the engine and the far more positive messages under the "engine" section of the console.

Engine is online
Current Rotational Speed: 1E54.77AE Hz
H2/O2 intake pressure: 12EE.AB76 kN/m^2

Despite the fact that this hiccup cost Soarin's qualification, the entire pit crew - and Soarin' - breathed a collective sigh of total relief, at least until Ratchet started to bark at the engine technician - a young and petite female elf fresh out of the Torvaldsville Institute of Technology with an Associate's in Automotive Technology - for completely overlooking the maintenance control lever on the primary fuel line in her post-inspection. Soarin' simply laughed as he climbed out of the car, pulling off his helmet with his front hooves and tucking it under his wing as he proceeded on hoof to his "office" in his team's garage. At least it was something simple, and not something requiring actual repair work; that relief far outweighed the disappointment in having to start in the back of the grid.

Chris Griffen and Peter Tompkins in:

The Mystery of the Missing Chocolates

Place: Surfers Paradise
Time: After qualifying

"Hey Peter."

"Hey Chris. Good qualifying?"

"Not bad, I did almost get hit by a flying piece of Vilita car. It was pretty small, and I saw it coming so I swerved out the way..."

"It was a bad accident."

"They should've red flagged qualifying and cleaned up the mess, I almost got a puncture from that debris!"

"It was near the end of Quali 1, so that would've been pointless."

"True"

"Want to come to the mess?"

"Sure, but first I have to go and take a dump"

"Me too"

Peter was the first to leave the toilet, while Chris was relieving himself. He left the toilet and went into the mess, where he saw the contents of Peter's bag, strewn over the floor.

"Err... Peter, come in here."

"Why?"

"Why is your bag's contents all over the floor?"

"Oh, S#*&, that had rare chocolates I was going to give my girlfriend"

"Well I will not rest until I find those chocolates, it is my du- *SNORE*"

"Chris wake up"

"Wha?- sorry I'm tired."

An amazing 5th place finish by Tavalini was made today at the NSGP 3 as he finished only 0.781 behind the winner out of a field of 13. Tavalini said after this triumph "I am extremely happy with my crew, myself,my car and most importantly my fans so I thank you and hope to have many more years of racing to come!"

Phoenigetuzstha Qualifies 2nd

After Phoenigetuzstha's 1st win in the NSGP last week, hopes were high for this weeks race. The Phoenigetuzsthan crowds were not let down as Zaharbal, brother of Joseph qualified in 2nd place, a miniscule 0.015 seconds off Cunningham of Whittoria who is keeping his good form from last season. Phoenigetuzstha currently sit 2nd in the standings, behing newcomers Eastfield Lodge who's impressive start has shocked many drivers in the tournament. This emphatic start may be put into jeperdy as Tingis sits last on the starting grid. Cook, from the Vilita & Tuori Islands, last seasons winner is currently in 4th while the other top finishers of last season, The Kytler Penninsula & The Polar Island States currently 6th & 7th respectively, mid-table, clearly not showing the prowess which they mastered so greatly last season. With Zaharbal 2nd on the grid, & Tingis at 13th it seems that the Phoenigetz team should be confident but we wouldn't wan't to jinx it now would we?

It was a dismal qualifying lap. Tingis knew what had to be done. It was one lap, one lap for one point, and a chance to make up the debacle that was the last race.

Starting on pole, he fell to sixth in five laps, as he started on his qualifying tires, which were surprisingly more worn than he'd expected. He was losing time at nearly a second per lap, before catching Cunningham in second place (due to others pitting) who for some reason was lapping even more slowly than him. He pitted at about lap 32, and about ten laps after, found himself in second place. He was then forced to pit again as the engineers noticed a worrying dip in tire pressures, calling him in on lap 48. He spent the last ten laps in the slipstream of Gary Cook, finally managing to pass him on the penultimate lap and pulling out ahead. However, in his euphoria, he span and had wrecked the car's front wing slightly. It was enough, and Cook caught him to retake the final podium place, ahead of new, yet familiar, territory, a speedway. He was familiar with the process from his days in Whittoria, but this season had opened up a whole new dimension in racing for him. The practice laps were crucial.

Back to qualifying. He went out, on a fresh set of the soft tires, which according to his engineers are only useful for a few laps here, the reason as to why a couple were completely burnt out in practice. He went out, confident of another top three start in the race. Starting the engine, he went out. Warm-up lap complete, the time began, but come first corner, he kicked the rear out and partially lost control of the car, and finished the lap almost four seconds out of the pole sitting 18.707, set by Moses Cunningham. He would start in last.

Ipeland get podium after thrilling race
3rd place finish catapult Ipeland to 7th in rankings

An amazing finish for Ipeland's racing team, as a good strategy and nicely timed pit stops earned Ipeland their first podium of their first season of the NSGP. Ipeland were 10 seconds in front of 4th place, but was a whole two laps behind the leaders. Vilita & Turori Islands won the race, but fought off very close competition from Whittoria. There were two retirements in the race, a collision on lap 19 brought Eastfield Lodge out of the race, and a mechanical fault knocked Kytler Peninsulae on lap 78.

This was an amazing race, a 3rd place finish in the 3rd race of the season. Lets hope for a win next race.

Driver Chris Griffen before being mobbed by fans.
