Thats all for today folks. See you tommorow with the latest scores from the tournament!

4:00 PM

Sean Petrauskas sat reading his German textbook, taking several notes within the margin. His mind concentrates on the irregular verbs, trying to memorize the pattern. All of a sudden, his teammate and roommate while in Yiland, Nicolas Meideros, comes crashing in the room, beer in hand.

"Dude this awesome!" exclaims Nick, "We're having a party at one of the bars across the street. Bunch of chicks were invited and there's beer." He proceeds to take Sean's German book and throws it on the bed.

"Hey, I'd rather study," said Sean, as he started to stand up from his chair, his hands clenched in fists. "I have midterms in two weeks, and I'd rather not fail."

"What are you, a studyholic?" asked Nick, who acts slightly drunk. He almost trips over the chair that Sean just got up from. "Du spricht Deutsch. O.k. You're fluent, let's go." Sean finally gives in and leaves to go to the bar with Nick, and a few other teammates.

1:00 AM

After drinking a couple of beers, watching one of the soccer matches going on in Yiland, and eating some wings, Sean decided to head back to his room to study. Walking back, he didn't see many people from the team there, just a bunch of random foreigners, and Nick. When he gets back to his room, he plops on the bed, and starts to fall asleep. The door knocks, and someone yells:

"Hey Petrauskas, you in there? Or Meideros?"

Sean gets up, turns on the light and opens the door. It's Coach Hillstep, looking pretty angry.

"Where have you been? We wanted a team meeting before the game tomorrow, and tonight was supposed to be it. 11:00, remember?"

Looking shocked, Sean opened his mouth to reply, but nothing came out. Completely flustered, his face turned red and the coach continued to berate him.

"Well we found your buddy Nick passed out in front of the hotel. Guess what, he's off the team. We'll be replacing him with one of our reserves. As for you, you're lucky that you didn't end up drunk, or else you'd be on a flight back to Thatius. So, tomorrow morning at 5:00, you're waking up extra early for some extra practice before the game, got it?"

"Uhh..Yes sir, I will be ready."

"Good," said the coach, "Now go back to sleep."

Matchday 1 Round-Up

And there off.... Today marked the start of the first ever Yiland International Football Cup. Game day 1 provided some interesting results and some top quailty games full of drama. Week 1 really set the bar high.

The first game of the day was the Cup Hosts Yiland who faced the 'Bears. Yiland's NICHOLAS Mallory scored the first goal of the match and the cup in the 27th minute only for the Bears to hit back within 5 minutes with a lovely strike. (30). Late into the second half the cup hosts managed to find a way past the Bears Keeper with key player and top goalscorer VICTOR Elder finding the back of the net in the 83rd minute.

Game 2 was a thriller as the Megastars really did show some star quality thumping 5 past Forestz Tigers with nothing in return. With the score only 1-0 at half-time Forestz seemed to lie down and take a second half beating conceding 3 of the 4 goals within 10 minutes of the re-start. Goals were at (4), (46), (50), (52) and (73).

Game 3 also produced a big score with Savski Venac racking up 4 goals against The Thatian Thunderhawks amidst claims the Thatian players were carrying hangovers from a night of drinking before the game. Goals were at (2), (34), (67) and (89).

Game 4 and 5 were 1-1 draws between Sjøræve and The Tryienne Dragons aswell as The Bulls of Carthage and Riakou Avengers.

Game 4 goals: Sjøræve (23) and Tryienne (56)
Game 5 goals: Bulls (45) and Riakou (17)

Matchday 2 games to be played on friday will be drawn on Thursday

I think 3 games a week is a good amount. One on Monday,Thursday and then on Sunday. This stops it from being longer than it needs to be.

CBC Sports

Today Phoenigetuzstha played their first competetive game in the Yiland International Football Cup! There opponents, The Riakou team, nicknamed the Riakou avengers scored early in the 17th minute (Insert Name here) was the scorer. However The Bulls of Carthage drew level with header from Hammon gehrib put Phoenigetuzstha level. A full stadium was present tonight and the Didoan Foundation Satdiums sound waves carried far into the night, even being heard from the small village of Tamgreb. All in all it seems the team were pleased. The manager, Gisco Annibasti said: "We didn't know what to expect from them. We had a scare in the opening but I'm glad the lads pulled it back. As for the Riakou team, I was very impressed, they could be one to watch out for in the tournament."

The other results were as follows:

The Megastars 5-0 Forestz Tigers
The Silverian Bears 1-2 Yiland Warriors
Savski Venac 4-0 The Thatian Thunderhawks
Sjøræve 1-1 The Tryienne Dragons

The Megastars and Savski Venac clearly the outstanding teams of the night, but don't write Phoenigetuzstha off. They're descendants of Carthage and they will fight for every ball!

Thats it for our covergae of the Yiland International Football Cup. Join us next time. Goodnight

Megastardom!

The whole of Megadia were partying last night after they hit 5 past the Forestz Tigers last night in the Yiland International Football Cup, yet another tournament used as preparation for the ultimate goal of the world cup.

Both Bojan Konig and Brent Middleton got 2 goals each and Austin Freshwater-Blake continued his fantastic goal-scoring run with a calm and composed finish from close range.

Many pundits have started tip Megadia as potential winners, but manager, Miguel Santiago-Turner suggested otherwise, stating "It is too early. We play one match and already everybody is piling pressure on us. I know we can be competitive, but possibly winning is going too far."

We will certainly find out in the coming matches...

Silver Beach loses opener of YIFC 2-1 to hosts!

In the first game of the Yiland International Football Cup, the national team lost 2-1 to the hosts, Yiland. Yiland took a very fast lead to start off the game, with a goal in the 27th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The crowd was on their side, and they had all the momentum. However, Silver Beach tied the game a few minutes later with a 21 yard strike from Jacob Jenkins on a free kick, that bended into the bottom back left corner of the goal in the 30th minute to tie the game at 1-1, and that would be the score at the half.

In the second half, Silver Beach dominated the first 20 minutes of play, but stellar goalkeeping kept the ball out of the net and really saved Yiland. Alejandro Romano missed a header inside the 6 yard box that was punched up and over the net by the Yilander goalkeeper to keep the game at 1-1. Sean Johnson, the Silver Beach captain, hit the ball from 18 yards out and hit the crossbar, which made sure Silver Beach did not score. Travis Edwards also had a strike from 23 yards out that was saved by a Yilander goalkeeper that had full extension on his dive to make the finger tip save. The Yilander goalkeeper finished with 9 saves, and 7 of them came in the second half.

After the 65th minute however, the game turned in the favor of Yiland, the tournament organizers. Yiland started taking possesion of the ball, and making crosses. They forced young goalkeeper Cameron Tabanou to make two leaping saves to keep the game tied at 1. However, a Silver Beach result was not meant to be. In the 83rd minute however, Yiland took a corner kick, and top goalscorer VICTOR Elder found the back of the net with a volley from 12 yards out, it was a beautiful strke that Tabanou had no chance of saving. That was the game clincher for Yiland, even though Silver Beach missed a free kick from 35 yards out in the 89th minute. Silver Beach starts the tournament with a loss, and faces the Tyrienne Dragons in match two. And as always, Silver beach will be looking for a good turnout from its fan. Go Bears!
