From bid: "Unlike the situation five Classics ago, TBI's Miscellanator is now established as a reliable scorinator for baseball."

-- Are you using a modifier to the beginning ranks as was the case in WBC 19 (as well as with Cassadaigua's hosting in #18)? If so what will it be? (Approximate if you haven't decided for sure yet!).

-- Could you elaborate (or clarify for me if you think you did elaborate already!), how the playoffs will specifically be seeded if there is uneven groups? If we're going to use a "top 2 and then next best 8 philosophy", then I must ask what I also asked Qazox:
Why do you feel this is preferable then what was used in WBC 19, where it was set in stone that 1st-3rd per group were in the playoffs. Your idea penalizes competitive groups (I've said this before). Is a 3rd place team in one group that went 8-4 and beat up on the two non-RP'ing newbies, really better then the 3rd place team in one group that went 7-5 in a competitive group where everyone RP'd?

1. We will be tripling WBC ranking points, just as Cassadaigua did when she hosted the WBC using Miscellanator.

2. The teams that advance to the knockout bracket will be seeded using the standard pattern found in such events as the regions in NCAA Final Four basketball.

Assuming 25-48 entrants, the first round will be the "round of 16" seeded 1 v 16, 8 v 9, 4 v 13, 5 v 12, 7 v 10, 3 v 14, 6 v 11, 2 v 15. If there are more bracket slots than teams, some top-seeded teams will get first-round byes. (A tournament with 49-96 entrants will use a similar pattern to begin with a "round of 32".)

The seeding itself uses the same criteria as tiebreaks but substituting lots for a playoff: Winning percentage, then head-to-head where relevant, then average runs scored, then lots.

TBI,

Given the fact that you just suddenly resigned as World Bowl Committee president in an apparent huff, can you assure us that you would commit to running the tournament to its full conclusion if chosen as host?

Curious, that a competing bidder chooses to bring this up, and one who was involved in the WB situation.

I have not withdrawn the bid. I have never failed to run any tournament started here to a successful and timely conclusion in over two years. These facts speak for themselves.

Yeah, because it actually wasn't on anyone else's mind. </sarcasm> It is rather concerning that not only did you abandon your elected procedural duties for no apparently good reason, but also that you seemed to flip about a small trifle, which raises the question of whether you can handle comments and questions from players about the tournament (or rather if you'd flip like Valanora and just cancel something like friendlies).

Good reasons are not always publicly disclosed, and trifles are in the eye of the beholder.

As for your other concern, I've been doing this on both the biggest and smallest stages for a long time. (Just as you have.) I'll continue to let two-and-a-half years of answering questions and comments from players, and delivering top-class tournaments in the bargain, speak for themselves.

Whether you choose to believe it or not, I would have raised the same concern had I not been a competing bidder for the World Baseball Classic. The fact that you abruptly resigned as WBC president for reasons you did not disclose could lead ANYONE to wonder whether you're in the right state of mind to host another very large tournament to a successful conclusion.

Owing to my past as a journalist, I don't like to jump to conclusions. I prefer to wait until I have all the facts in front of me before I say something. The facts are that you announced a measure in the World Bowl, someone raised a question, soon followed by other people also expressing concern over the same things, then you fired off a brief retort citing Robert's Rules Of Order, which may not necessarily be germane since the World Bowl Constitution does not specify that we follow Roberts Rules Of Order, then you abruptly resigned, intimating that you have bigger fish to fry.

Well guess what? A lot of us have our own trials and tribulations to deal with in the outside world. For many of us, NS is our escape from those trials and tribulations. It is a place where we can go into an imaginary world as imaginary nations and have imaginary players and teams from our imaginary nations fight to defend the honours of said nations on the field of play.

Were I to decide to withdraw my bid as host today and then cast a vote, based on the remaining two bids (yours and Qazox's), I would vote to reopen the process. The apparently snippy way you have responded, especially to me, and then also to Delaclava, has caused me to lose confidence in the way you handle yourself on here.

I regret this, I really do. But sometimes one makes mistakes, and when it happens you pick up and go on, perhaps learning along the way.

Thank you for sharing your opinion. No sarcasm here; I was a good deal snippier than I should have been. What's done is, alas, done, so all I can add is that if selected I will continue to run the event to the same standard my previous major events have always maintained.
