MD23

And after writing that wonderful plethora of RP about birds and demons, we're ready to forget about MD23. Oh right, we're not allowed to forget about that, SLANI contracts... At least we can always fire a Dancougarite intern in our frustrations - they're so expendable. In fact, you'd figure that they were a country of the interns, by the interns, for the interns... so why do they keep firing interns? Who knows, but it sets us up for a great precedent...

Anyway, we're digressing, and that's good news for us right now, but not in about 20 minutes when the Elves, the SLANIs, the Frenchies, and the odd singing beans will be knocking on our door for the real report. Actually, we could care less about the singing beans, since they're now an endangered minority with fewer strings than string beans attached to a doorknob. Yes, randomness can work miracles, but not today... not today... *sigh*

Well, some good news and some bads news. The good news - the ELVES lost against Yeonseong! Bad news, SLANI Sanghae won a game. Actually, it was a rather good day for Sanghae, as both home clubs won on the day, Jason Bailey providing for the former as his 6th minute strike was the only highlight of an otherwise SLANI match. Sanghae Yeonhap, on the other hand, proved a little more consistent on the field, beating Toban by a sound 2-0 margin. And while the win fails to make-up for the lost ground, the fact that Kapundae lost the big derby match against Malla Yeonhap should be encouraging news to them. In fact, it was Kapundae's worst loss so far (welcome to the club of RAWRCRUSH!ers RAWRCRUSH!ed), as Yim Mi-Jang and Pak Hwan-Gyo each earned a brace. It was practically over in the first half, but Yim felt the need to punish Kapundae even more, despite the fact that Kapundae are more assured of their future in the HD than Malla is of theirs.

And back to Yeonseong, where the Elves took on a hard task of beating the former capital team in the former capital at a formerly big stadium. The fact remains is that Yeonseong is not the same team in the same city that boasted so much before, but it's nice wishful thinking to think otherwise. Kelssekian international Thomas Brodif scored his first goal for his new club, while Shin Ha-Gang pretty much settled the score just minutes later. And try as they might, the Elves could not turn this match around, much like chocolate muffins fail to expand because of a certain lack of gluten and baking soda (cue horrible high school student's analogy). Oy, that brings up memories. But even with the loss, Yongsan still maintains a good position in the league, while Yeonseong gets an even better leg up. The other club from Yeiseong managed to pull out an impressive 2-0 win over a resurgent Taepung side. Goals on either side of the interval help settle the ordeal, while both teams hope to avoid the relegation battle at the end of the season.

Well, we'll stick around in Joseon, as Shilla played hosts to Joseon. And after a wonderful streak snapped yesterday, Joseon looked to be repeating poor form yet once more. But with Kim Il-Tae subbed off already, it was left to Yi Ok-Gil to save the day, as she pulled out an 11th hour equalizer (like football matches last twelve hours? SLANI metaphor) against Shilla; Kim Yang-Du will be disappointed with that last grasp, as he was on his way to earning only his 10th clean sheet of the season. Unfortunately, that's the closest we can get to a Yafotie (although the Yaforites might prefer the 1-0 winners over some of the other ones...), as the only other draw was that 2-2 goalfest in Seoan. With Nakamura at the reins of a club looking to emulate former successes, they got off the worst possible start. And those Pak Gi-Jung pulled one back, they were still down 1-2 at the half-time interval. Yet, after trailing for just over a half-hour, Yi Jae-Jin slapped in a goal (with his foot! SLANI Henry...) to equalize for Cheonma. Unfortunately, you could not say the same for the other Seoan club, as Bulsajo were held at home 0-1 to Rosário's death-defying goal that simply tucked in behind Yi Gyeong-Sun. Indeed, the young Cafundelense striker has proven somewhat a talismanic striker for Cheonjin, and he seems to following in the footsteps of his fellow countryman Manuel Padaria. One day, he too can coach this team to its greatest height, then get sucked away to Rio Bonito for some pet projects there (Starblaydi managers get it so much easier...).

Ooooooooh, we're running out of time! *glances at the broken clock* We're running out of time! So, Gwangju relied upon Kim Gihyeon's solitary strike (and you wonder why he doesn't play that well in the CMSC??? oh yeah right, the IFL sucks...) to settle the score against Gohan (who are now hovering in a hearse in the relegation zone), while Shimyang were undone by Oreum FC (wow, that's surprising...). Choe Gang-Han managed to pull a free-kick just outside the box, and despite hitting the woodwork the first time, he got it straight into the bottom corner of the net on his second try - you literally don't see those happen all of the time (well actually...... you do...). And to end up our IFL round, it's the Emperor's Cup Round 1!

MD24

Yay! We're earlier than usual, and we're all so happy about it too! Maybe... or not...

Who cares? Well, to figure that out, we'll take a quick visit to the Quintessence of Dust, where... no one cares about anything? Oh figures...

*goes and looks for someone who cares*

We'll find someone who cares, but in the meantime, we're back on track to report this stuff. And to make things interesting, we've made certain words taboo - so it'll be your prerogative to figure what those words are and to substitute them in for the proper word. After all, we're sick and tired of saying the same things over and over, so short of creating new words to describe them, we'll just do this Mad Libs style (oh, wonderful game of words).

Anyway, it was a good day in Haegu, who pulled off a wonderful upset over Gwangju. Indeed, the home team were gifted a great goal before the HONK, and with Wang Ho-Oh's 76th minute PATOOTEY, the game was all but certain by the final whistle. The result moves them farther along in the table, while it leaves Gwangju in a bit of a jeopardy (even as other teams share in that jeopardy. One of those teams - Sanghae Haetae. Sure, they're doing well now, but wait a few matches and if their form continues, they'll be singing the blues. Fortunately, they were left to a DONKEY'S ARSE in Lasa, with the solitary Yafotie of the day (hooray Yafotie...).

The scene was a little more chaotic in the Yeiseong derby, as Yongsan played host to Yeiseong Yeonhap. Indeed, the last few minutes of the first half were muffled by the cacophony of cicadas emerging from the pitch. Apparently, some 20 years ago, the cicadas burrowed into the grounds just under the stadium, pupated over those many years, and emerged at that very moment (cicadas emerging in the spring? who'd thunk that?) as Feldireth took her PATOOTEY to the top left corner. Fortunately, the organizers had the HONK to help them deliver all of the maturing adults, so they could go out into the city and procreate - so that some twenty years during another Yongsan-Yeonhap derby, they could emerge once more (and Feldireth would probably be the same striker fulfilling that role). Of course, some of the fans thought that the Elves were playing tricks (and who knows? maybe they were?) and they started a little fight, throwing cicadas at one another - and in retrospect, it seems funny that they'd be throwing around winged creatures, but in further retrospect, cicadas are very soft and smushy when they first emerge and give off their final pupal molt, so what likely resulted was a mass melee of soft, smushy bugs hurling through the air to their deaths (and damned right, the fans could be contributing to natural selection against having cicadas emerge in the middle of a derby match) - before the authorities could resolve to stop the bickering. Nonetheless, though the fighting subsided and the cicadas done with their emergence (and the pitch likewise repaired), the fans still felt a little bit of mistrust.

And Yongsan did go on to win the match 2-0. SLANI Elves...

A few other significant matches... Kapundae rebounded after their 4-0 drubbing to inter-city rivals Malla with an early strike against Sanghae Yeonhap; Malla, for their part, won their match in nearly identical fashion against Gohan. Seoan Bulsajo earned a tough win over provincial rivals Taeweon, while Cheonma fell away to Cheonjin - a double PATOOTEY from Rosário on either side of the HONK proving the difference. Jjambongga earned a comprehensive win over Shilla, while Yeonseong fought hard to beat Oreum away. All that aside, the only other DONKEY'S ARSE was between Joseon and Shimyang, with Kim Il-Tae (renowned for his 5-goal wonder against Haetae a few days ago) helping to RING AROUND THE ROSIE the score.

And that's MD24 for ye...

MD25

This little piggy went to the market; this little piggy stayed at home.
This little piggy had beef; this little piggy had none.
This little piggy went and saw that stunning 3-2 match between Yongsan and Taepung. Really stunning match. Too bad the Elves won, leaving us with a terrible predicament, not mention the piggy squealed all the way home.

This piggy went across the city and saw Yeiseong play level with Oreum (even though people from Oreum despise piggies, and all this with the goals coming in the final 10 minutes. This little piggy wasn't as excited and ate some left-over victuals from the fridge.

For the most part, the little piggies who went out to watch some football were not disappointed (aside from those Yaforite piggies and such), but piggies in Seoan and Sanghae would have been terribly elated. Seoan first, where Cheonma pulled off their first real RAWRCRUSH! under Nakamura thanks in part to Pak Gi-Jung, who simply won this match in the first 45 minutes. True, Kim Chan-Jung and Gang Cha-Oh made it a little interesting, but no piggies were expecting Taeweon to win going 4-2 at the interval; even less so after Pak Gi-Jung added his fifth of the match after the restart. Jung Ji-Young likewise managed a more respectably reasonable show, earning a brace for Bulsajo against Toban. Sanghae Haetae had bigger piggies to fry, with Kapundae arriving in town. Thanks to SLANI Malamas, they earned three good points. Sanghae Yeonhap even had a good show, with a 2-1 triumph over visiting Gohan.

Other piggies in a really quickly quilted blanket: Yeonseong had a barbie (without them Bazalonian shrimps, otherwise known as pr0ns) cooking up Joseon, while both Shimyang and Shilla claimed respectable wins over Jjambbonga and Cheonjin respectively. And to round up this fest, 6 more weeks of winter!

Erm... Malla beat Gwangju 3-0.

MD26

Some people can be so bipolar... some teams too. After claiming double wins last match, both Sanghae and Seoan dropped pointed today. Sanghae more so, because both teams fell 3-0 away. Yeonhap had at least a good excuse, playing a modestly on-form Gwangju. But Haetae had Gohan... no excused there (well, they were a bit sucky themselves... SLANI players...). Seoan had a better excuse on the day, with Bulsajo facing Kapundae away. Kapundae had little difficulty brushing aside the opposition, although it took them nearly the whole first half to break the deadlock. Cheonma, on the other hand, had to deal with staunch defense from Toban Bulgyo; the only thing that we can say is Hooray Yafotie!

On the day, a number of other things happened that makes life so much more bearable: Taepung claimed an important 3 points at home, with newly-signed Frederico Avila claiming the first goal in the match. Taeweon and Cheonjin each claimed wins over Shilla and Shimyang, both in the first half. Joseon likewise claimed a very impressive 4-0 win (maybe thrashing Haetae 5-0 wasn't so odd after all) over Yeiseong Yeonhap. This time, Kim Il-Tae didn't grab all of the goals, but he certainly contributed to the team's effort. You can bet he'll be on the World Cup 50 squad... As for Yongsan and Yeonseong... they failed to win. Yongsan fell at Oreum by the slightest margin, while Yeonseong looked win an late equalizer before Han Nam-Ha pulled Jjambongga back ahead 10 minutes from time.

And can we say Hooray Yafotie! again? Right...

MD27 & MD28

So we missed yesterday's call to duty. Big deal. That's no reason to imagine that you'd be out on our front door step with a bunch of torches ready to swamp the IFA offices complaining that they were able to get their daily fix of IFL shit (and if you're really that desperate, might we recommend seeing a psychiatrist to help wean you off the drugs?). In any case, it was a case of really odd things happening all around. Yongsan seemed to claw back their RAWRCRUSH spirit, beating on recent RAWRCRUSH specialists Joseon Dangun. Yeonseong likewise had their fest of goals against Cheonjin, while Cheonma and Bulsajo each claimed sizable wins over Kapundae and Gohan, respectively. On the opposite side of the spectrum, there was Taeweon at Shimyang - quite the cricket and Yaforite affair.

Oreum claimed another important win (we haven't been talking much about them, have we?) against Haegu, as Osarian international Frederico Avila scored the equalizer just moments after Choe Gang-Han opened up the scoring just before the break. It took them all 15 minutes into the second half to finally settle the score, after which spectators were held to a beautiful match. Yeiseong, mirroring the success of their fellow city rivals, had a good 3-0 walloping over Jjambongga; after scoring the first two goals, it appeared that Jjambongga might have had a late-match renaissance before Sang Deok-Yeol sealed a great win.

Oh bloody hell, we'll skip the rest of MD27 to move on to MD28 (you didn't miss much; Haetae pulled ahead twice, Gwangju pulled back twice, and everyone left with the points shared; Sanghae Yeonhap, for their part, sealed an early win over Malla Yeonhap; and Shilla had to share the spoils with Toban Bulgyo after conceding Dong Dae-Jang's strike on the hour). And pretty much, everyone who won MD27 managed to lose MD28, and vice versa. The notable exception being Sanghae Haetae, who managed to draw last time around. Apparently, Malla Yeonhap provided more opposition this time. The other exception would be Cheonjin, which has managed to lose on both matches. At least, they didn't go down to a drab 4-0 margin, with Rosário [roviding the lucky and early equalizer before Hong Gang-Jeong drew blood once more just a minute later... and with 80 minutes to go, the ball traveled up and down, back and forth, left and right, in and out, and full and flat (after a random projectile managed to deflate the ball during the 68th minute), the ball failed to find the net with the assistance of either team.

Go read the scores yerself!

Emperor's Cup

Well, if you were expecting upsets, you are certainly in the minority. Only upsets were in those MD versus PD fixtures. But those were matches of bare minimums, as Gyeongdo lost the away match, scoring just the one goal that made all the difference; Bokdo won the home match, while drawing 2-2 away at Gohan Weonguk; and Seonyeong actually lost at home before coming back to embarrass Seibu FC in front of their own fans. Everyone else either blew away the competition or just squeezed enough to win their ties (which isn't all to informative, since no one went out and won on a PK shoot-out). The biggest HD-ND RAWRCRUSH award goes to...Cheonjin, who slammed Dongjjok Cheongyong on aggregate 9-3. Only Kapundae came close the sort of RAWRCRUSHING present that Cheonjin effected (and Yaforites might say that they were the better team, despite the huge goal difference). In the meantime, Jonam Jigante put their own similar RAWRCRUSH stamp on the affair, with a clear 7-1 win over PD counterparts Bugyeong FC. And on to Round 3!

MD29 & MD30

Well, I hope that they don't make that a tradition.

But here's for another two-match report (thankfully, no Emperor's Cup fixtures). We'll start at the top of the list and work our way down, hopefully, because Taepung is really on some kind of roll. Newly acquired Osarian striker Frederico Avila has quickly found his spot on the starting line-up, and he's really made a huge impact on the team's fortunes. Whether that translates into international success is another, but they can surely thank his first-half brace for winning this match, because Joseon is a particularly dangerous team as well. And it all makes the last ten weeks all the more interesting. Cheonjin managed to stop their recent slip with a not-so-comfortable-but-necessary away win in Yeiseong, against the SLANI Elves. Song Chang-Gang had been quiet as of late, but he chose a great time to start shooting goals again.

...

Hrm... skipping on down the line, we find Yeonseong claiming a nice little rubber stamp win over Toban. And while the score-line was rather slim, you could wonder why the score-line wasn't wider with the way that Yeonseong played today (and someday, you too can think that with the advent of IFL 2.0!). Meanwhile, woah nellie! - Kapundae had a really good time beating Shimyang. Sure, the first half was really wide-open, especially when Shimyang turned back a two-goal deficit. But you knew it couldn't last in the second half, as Misina and Jang Yong-Han sealed a good win for the league's fore-runners. In contrast, Shilla eeked out a slim win over visitors Gohan. Jeong Seung-Suk had little difficulty dispatching the ball past Choe Min-Dae, but the team overall had great difficulty dispatching anything else over the rest of the 90 minutes. Such has been the troubles facing Shilla. Cheonma likewise has had some trouble, but they didn't show it against Gwangju today (or rather last time). Kim Gihyeon seemed earned Gwangju the equalizing point, but Pak Yang-Eun settled up the affair with a clinical strike three minutes from time, and the crowd was probably by then in rapturous delight (or drunken ecstasy - you can never tell with these people).

Bulsajo, on the other hand, seemed to have more troubles, what, with sharing their stadium with the IFA's pet project DBC thingamerbobberthingy. A 1-1 draw was always on the books, while one of the biggest inter-city derbies ended with a pathetic and droll Yafotie (btw, for you Krytenians reading this, there's no R in YAFOTIE, but there's three R's in RAWRCRUSH). Quite the SLANI way to end a match, init? Oh, and Yafoties abounded for MD29, with Oreum handling Jjambongga and Yeiseong Yeonhap seeing off the threat from Taeweon. SLANI hell...

...

Oh, right, another MD, SLANI %$#^ hell...

And the three words that can best up MD30 - W. T. F.

...

Oh, alright, we'll explain WTF. It all really begins in Pudo, where Gohan Monggol is most assuredly facing an end-of-the-season relegation battle with MD counterparts. And to help usher them to the River Styx would have been Shimyang, except the brummie kids lost 3-nil to Gohan. Really. Is it that hard to beat a relegation-struck team? Come on! Soon enough, Shimyang will be joining them (which would be bad news, since Shimyang had never relegated before - but there's always room for a first time!). Regional rivals Shilla didn't do much better, although they had a better excuse, facing contenders Gwangju in Gwangju. Never an easy thing, y'know. And after equalizing so early in the match, you would have expected both teams to run out for the win. Instead, you got this overly cautious approach that ended up favoring Gwangju (because you know the home fans love winning), especially as Kim Gihyeon struck up yet another goal in as many matches this season, with just minutes to spare.

And it was a grab-bag kinda day for Sanghae and Seoan, especially as the non-foreign teams were facing off. Haetae managed to win against a resurgent Taepung side, while Cheonma had a horrible day away in Malla, losing 4-0 to the locals (Yim Mi-Jang netted a neat hat-trick). But it all equaled out when Bulsajo claimed victory over Sanghae Yeonhap, with Yeonhap hoping to come back after Song Ji-Suk netted their first goal just minutes after Bulsajo went ahead 2-0. But it wasn't enough to start some come-back win (we haven't really seen too many of those, have we?).

And the rest of the league was somewhat as-you-were. The big match had to be the Kapundae-Yeonseong match, the winner of which was most likely to go on and win the darned division. And it was Paulinho! that scored the first goal in this match, sending Kapundae up over Yeonseong with 75 minutes to go. And it was Paulinho! that scored the only goal of the match... right, as you were. Toban Bulgyo secured a win over Yeiseong Yeonhap, who are now dangling just over the relegation zone. Despite their good run a few weeks back, Joseon are dangling even closer, and you got a sense of that desperation as Kim Il-Tae netted what woulda been the winning goal, except Choe Hong-Gang shoulda blocked Wang Sung-Cha's shot in the 85th minute so Joseon coulda won this one. Anyone care for some gouda cheese?

Right, Cheonjin also had a good win, beating Oreum in front of their fans, while Taeweon continued to heap mountains of pressure upon Yongsan - to get just enough to the UICA qualification spots. And because we had so many Yafoties jumping on the bed last time, no more Yafoties jumping on the bed now. OFF! SHOO! GIT OUTTA HERE!

Well, them Elves are at it again. We haven't seen too much of Elensumé, but with that hat trick today, you wonder where he's been. And Toban Bulgyo aren't quite the pushovers we'd like them to be, but they looked more like the door flaps over an empty net. Cross-city rivals Yeiseong Yeonhap also had their field day adventure against Kapundae, and ran out winners after both teams emerged from the interval scoreless. And Yeonseong is the latest team to succumb to the uberPWNAGE that has become Gohan. Yes, read it and weep; Gohan Monggol beat Yeonseong. Last-week's victims Shimyang seemed to shed off the embarrassment and soundly whipped Gwangju 3-0, while Shilla likewise had a great time dispatching Malla Yeonhap 2-0.

Some of the other things happening around the League, Joseon Dangun found their form! and beat Cheonjin 3-1 at home. It could have been 3-0, but Kim Chan-Na was convinced that her team deserved something, and rightfully she got that something - a yellow card for removing her jersey in front of the breast-conscious crowd. Some sports commentators remarked that she shouldn't have gotten a yellow card, decrying the public outcry against female players in the League; other commentators decried the "lax" punishment and suggested anything less than a red card was just caving in to the whims of feminine charm (of course! that explains it all! male referee chauvinists are mesmerized by ladies playing footy!). Anyway, Joseon clearly does not deserve their own paragraph.

Oreum managed a similarly comfortable 3-1 win at home against Taeweon. Kim Sun-Oh managed to win the match ball - only the second hat-trick of the day - while down in Seoan, the two big cities played out two boring Yafoties. Afterwards, the pubs were filled with sobering reminders of too much booze. Of course, Orcinus wants us to say that "there's no such thing as too much booze!" Well, there's too much booze if two teams get the same SLANI Yafotie, and that's a wrap.

Well, it's really starting to get interesting, and because we're so mean to make you read these long reports without any idea as to where any of these teams are currently, we'll give you a little table bump. So, obviously the team of the league right now is Kapundae, who have by far dominated the division. Sure, they've slipped, but so has everyone else. And where they slip, they tend to make amends rather quickly. Take for example their match against Yongsan. They won it by a slender 3-2 margin, but you can attribute those two goals to crappy defending (they've had that problem, for sure) and really inspiring strikes from Elensumé. But that aside, Kapundae were really in control for the whole match, and now they're up on top of the league with a comfortable 66 points (7 points ahead of Yeonseong, who lost away at Gwangju), while Yongsan are now lingering around the do-or-don't zone for UICA competitions with 50 points (Gwangju overtook them, btw). And since we're talking about Gwangju, we'll talk about Kim Gihyeon. He's been phenomenal for the club, and despite his "B" status as an C&M international player. And no doubt, he's sincerely earned yet another hat trick for himself. But his efforts have helped Gwangju stay in the up side of the league, at the expense of heavyweights Yeonseong, who are stalled out at 59 points.

On the bottom side of the league, we've got Gohan - of course. And they really took up the match under auspicious conditions, failing the win their match because they were a bit too hasty on the restart. But that's okay. They've still got 29 points. As for Yeiseong Yeonhap, they've got 39 points. Joining Gohan will likely be Shimyang (30 points), Shilla (33), and Sanghae Yeonhap (34). And Sanghae Yeonhap only just managed to avoid getting called earlier in the lineup because of their 1-nil win over Shilla (surprise?). Despite starting well, Haegu Taepung have slipped and slid down and are now tied for the bottom tier with 38 points, beating fellow 38-pointers Seoan Bulsajo.

Going on about Seoan and Sanghae, the two oldest Gukjei clubs (oh my, I said the word of the day!) faced off for rights to get stuck in the UICA qualification bid section. And let it be said, Haetae failed the test. They got the final say, but Seoan Cheonma are not 4th with 53 points while Haetae drift back to 9th with 47 points. Just imagine where they could have been with a Haetae win... And who is that missing team in third place? Cheonjin? Well, they've been one of the biggest teams on the gain side, and it's not because their Cafundelense youth star has been getting better - everyone has been getting better. By and large, the Han strikers rarely get the spotlight, but when both subs come on at half-time to join with Rosário in the strike team, it's quite impressive when they all take part in this goal fest. In fact, it was a good day for rising and upcoming Peisandros midfielder Christian Biom, who's been largely hidden from the world because he's a bit too young to be playing with the rest of the adult squad. But give him time, he'll break into the squad with plenty of time to spare.

A few other finishers, Oreum have been running really well as of late (and you really don't hear about them, I mean, they're stuck out there in the desert wastelands out west! in fact, the town was razed during the war, y'know, so no one really expects these teams to do so well...). Oh, and they're stuck out with 48 points, so not too shabby. It won't earn a UICA spot, but they'll be looking to improve on this season's performance. Anyone else out there? Ah, Taeweon... They're hovering at 41 points, and they could have been 44 points, except Kim Il-Tae and company earned their 3 points to settle Joseon at 39 points. Not impressive for a club's stand point, but Kim Il-Tae is earning his spot on the national squad for WC50, don't you wait and see!

And everyone else you'll jus' have to wait and see. Good luck!

MD33

Well, it's a surprising turn to see Yeonseong stumble out of the TQCC Qualification block , but with that loss to Malla Yeonhap, Cheonjin sneaked into 2nd place with a resounding 5-nil win over Haegu Taepung. It was a performance capped by the one Rosário's hat trick, and it would seem to be a fitting end for the Cafundelense youth's first season in the Han Empire. As for Yeonseonf, they'll have to hope that they don't stumble any more to get back into the TQCC block. It was really unfortunate for them to concede that free kick just before half-time, and they'd been struggling already. But Son Il-Jun was clinical from distance, and it proved the difference.

Some other things to note... the first thing that Kapundae do when they come back is thrash Oreum 2-0, with two second-half goals. WAITAMINIT, come back?!? From where? As it turned out, they were invited guests to come fill the stands at the Second SLANI Tournament. Unlike the equally SLANI Sanghae Haetae, Kapundae actually went on a run and stormed the tournament, surprising SLANI Yuba United and SLANI Elves Raynor City United to win the tournament and escape with 10.2186 kg of gold (worth just under 180000₩), only to have the IFA impose a fine for attending a tournament that they were not authorized to attend (worth roughly the same). Fudge, if they can beat TQCC Champions in some SLANI cup, why can they win the TQCC?!? Granted, they love the silverware, so it's a nice little addition to their trophy cabinet ("some SLANI trophy from some SLANI land").

Oh, right, the League.

Taeweon capped a good performance with a win over home-side Jjambongga, while Shilla and Shimyang both produced fantastic results over both teams from Sanghae. Unfortunately, neither team escaped the relegation fight, and now Sanghae Yeonhap has joined them. Good grief. And the biggest derby in Seoan ended in a quick Cheonma win over Bulsajo - bragging rights for another season abounds. Toban Bulgyo came off a great run in the Emperor's Cup (see below) to beat Joseon 2-0, while Yeiseong Yeonhap managed to thump visiting Gwangju 2-nil in the first twenty minutes or so.

And for the SLANI Elves, they got a miserly Yafotie against bottom feeders Gohan. Yay.

Matchday 33: 4723년 5월 13일
Cheonjin FC (Rosário 22', Kim Chan-Na 51', Song Chang-Gang 74', Rosário 78', Rosário 86') 5-0 Haegu Taepung
Jjambongga FC 0-1 (Gang Cha-Oh 76') Taeweon FC
Joseon Dangun 0-2 (Yeom Yeol-Son 32', Pak Sang-Gyo 89') Toban Bulgyo
Oreum FC 0-2 (Jang Yong-Han 71', Paulinho 75') Kapundae FC
Yongsan FC 0-0 Gohan Monggol
Yeiseong Yeonhap (Hong Gang-Jeong 4', Hong Gang-Jeong 22') 2-0 Gwangju FC
Yeonseong FC 0-1 (Son Jun-Il 45') Malla Yeonhap
Shimyang FC (Yi Gyeong-Jae 47', Jeong Seok-Hwa 58', Song Su-Jung 78') 3-0 Sanghae Yeonhap
Shilla FC (Kim Yong-Min 10', Jeong Seung-Suk 32', Yeom Chang-Shik 52') 3-2 (Choe Hong-Gun 54', Jason Bailey 71') Sanghae Haetae
Seoan Cheonma (Yi Jae-Jin 15', Pak Yang-Eun 50', Yi Suk-Yun 77') 3-1 (Hwang Sun-Yeong 26') Seoan Bulsajo

Emperor's Cup

Can you say wow?

...

Alright, don't say wow. It doesn't mean that today wasn't one of those wow days. In fact, it probably deserves two "wows" and we'll start with the top. You'd think that Bokdo FC would have fallen through with minimal effort from Kapundae, but it was unfortunately one of those days. In fact, Bokdo didn't really win anything on the away fixture. They kept it agonizingly close, with a 3-2 loss, that would have sent some people in raptures. Unfortunately, they came back home in Ilbon and scored a goal, and that's all that really mattered. SLANI away goals rule... can't even win your own domestic cup...

It was in fact a horrible day for those SLANI Haetae people, who actually did lose over all. And they did lose to a Daejeon side that had some of the elements of their prior history, but for them, this will be their finest moment. And the epic battle of SLANI Elves versus not-so-SLANI C&M boys and girls - the C&M boys and girls club won! Rest assured, it was a tense 1-1 draw in Yeiseong, but coming back home to Malnira seemed to thwart the Elves even more so, and Yongsan take the exit with a resounding 1-4 loss. Jigante clearly showed that they're HD material and if they keep it up, they'll be on their way soon enough.

Those were the only real upsets to speak of. Toban had a fierce battle with Hayan Horangi, while Cheonma clearly swept aside all opposition to go on for a 3-year-old title defense. Gwangju, on the other hand, sealed off an epic campaign with two clean performances by Jang Hwan-In and plenty o'goals for Kim Gihyeon. Cheonjin likewise had a good show, while Yeonseong capped a good performance over Seonyeong Yeonhap. Clearly, all of the heavyweights are still in contention.

Oh... we're doing Round 4 too? How sweet.

Oh... not too impressive. After beating out HD-leaders Kapundae, Bokdo succumbed to equally mediocre Toban Bulgyo, with mediocre but significant results. They'll go on to face Seoan Cheonma, who avenged (or thanked, depending upon your perspective) Sanghae Haetae's defeat by Daejeon. Cheonjin whipped out the remaining non-HD contender Jonam Jigante, with Jang Hwan-In continuing his stunning form, while Yeonseong fell to Cheonjin's massive striking prowess. Gwangju vs Cheonjin! OMFG! SO GREAT!

Just a fancy statistic, all of the teams that won Round 4 won without conceding goals. If that don't make Yaforites happy, then they can go play their own brand of soccer.

SLANI Vephrese don't know what they're doing... oh wait, that's SLANI Samseong, because they're the sponsors now... irony...

Anyway, we've got loads of work to do, and not enough time to do it.

So the IFL still has some time to go before we call it the end but for the sake of sanity, the Amateur League and Academy Division will get their results posted at the end of all of this mess. Anyway, we're just doing highlights, because we're getting a bit of almost-done-with-league-itis, which is quite an insufferable plague, especially when one considers the impact of writing all of this junk. One day, you'll see some kids way off in the Borderlands praise the IFL match reports as an "inspirational mesh of non-sense" and such and such. Until then, you're stuck reading mush.

Oh right, the league. Ummmmmmm...

Kapundae's hope to win the league was dealt a serious blow after losing 4-1 at Jjambongga. Despite hitting the first goal, Jjambongga struck back quickly and never really looked back to see whom they were beating. What's made their predicament better was the fact that neither Yeonseong nor Cheonjin won their matches (both instinctively drew their opponents, as if Kapundae was too great to be superseded - SLANI cup in SLANIland - and a note about SLANI, Haetae was the one team that drew the Yafotie against Yeonseong).

Well, Gwangju weren't hurting their chances, with a comprehensive 2-1 win over Oreum, but they've still got to outdo Cheonma, who surprisingly still have just one point ahead of Gwangju, despite that loss to Shilla (actually, it's not quite surprisingly - they had a 4-point cushion, now it's 1; athematics, you idiots). Speaking of which, Shilla haven't quite broken the boogie man's grasp for relegation with that win, but they're edging ever closer to the gap, with Bulsajo putting out a draw against Shimyang (who are pretty much resigned to playing in the Divisional Play-offs). Another team resigned (finally) is Gohan, after falling 1-nil away in Pyeongyang to a strong Joseon side. With just 31 points (and 12 points remaining), they've got no hope to beat out Taepung and Bulsajo, both on 42 points (they'll probably be eliminated next match anyway).

In any case, Kapundae do have the chance to win the League next matchday, if they win and Cheonjin loses their match. Meanwhile, the fight for a spot at the Globe Cup rages on, as there's likely to be a shuffle of a few places for qualification, especially if Cheonjin win and qualify for the TQCC. Otherwise, it's looking like the third-placed team will get the prize at the expense of all the other people.

Can we go home now? Seriously.

Academy Cup Final
Seoan Bulsajo Academy 0-1 Armed Forces FC

Well, it was a stunning run for the least likely, but nonetheless most storied team competing. After a rather mediocre performance in the Academy Division, it was Armed Forces who stole away the Academy Cup-Clausura, after a rather drole but clinical 1-nil- win over Seoan Bulsajo Academy. The most surprising thing was that early convincing defeat that Jonam Jigante Academy issued out to Dongguk University. Not only was it unexpected, the margin of defeat suggests that the team might have suffered a bit after sending a few of their star players to come compete in the darned DBC thingamerbobberthingy. In fact, the best performing representative of the recent IUCC delegation was Joseon University, who fell out in extra time during the Quarterfinals to Seoan Bulsajo Academy.

Fortunately for Dongguk University, they have a chance to earn a spot yet.

MD36 & MD37

Okay, can we not do two matchday reports at the same time ever again?

And can we not have some random OOC holiday in the middle of it all, to prove an excuse for the writer to sober up before writing frivolous non-sense?

And can we not write insane OOC remarks to no one in particular, especially self-addressed reminders about how inane all of this really is?

*sigh*

Right, MD36... At this point, it's fair to say that Kapundae have won the league. Hooray. At least them elves didn't win it. But Kapundae has really had a lot of benefit related to the fact that they employed a wide diversity of players who filled diverse positions. Even players coming from "weaker" countries, they managed to utilize the strengths of their players to put up a team that was simply unbeatable in many aspects. Unfortunately, they were inconsistent, but you could say much the same about their opponents as well. Nonetheless, when you rattle a strong opponent (Cheonjin) 4-nil, you deserve from kudos, and they were happy to celebrate the trophy in front of their fans. The other big news was the Yeiseong-Sanghae derby. Haetae had a visit from Yeiseong Yeonhap, and they clearly showed their stuff to the visitors, latching onto Jason Bailey's early strike and holding up to Gang Hong-Heon's (yeah, we transliterated those SLANI transliterations - sue us) last minute strike. Altogether, they outscored Yeonhap 5-2. Meanwhile, across the city, Sanghae Yeonhap was playing hosts to Yongsan. Both teams left it late, but Feldireth managed a brace that earned Yongsan a well-earned victory away.

Yeonseong, for their part, were held in Seoan to a Yafotie; Oreum also had a Yafotie in Malla.

Onto MD37, just three days away from the end (and the long reading of those some odd UICA qualifiers shix). Kapundae might have won the league, but they were certainly finding reason not to strut their stuff as Taeweon rolled 3-nil over the Champions, having previously rolled over Toban in Lasa. Cheonjin, for their part, failed to win again, and another Yafotie earned by Yeonseong (to the other half of Seoan) put the two teams level on terms. And that race for the second spot in TQCC qualification has gotten hot once more, while fighting over that second (potentially) spot in Globe Cup Qualification has gotten equally hotter, with Yongsan winning against Haetae and putting them on level terms with Cheonma (who were in that aforementioned Yafotie with Yeonseong).

The bottom of the table is getting hot as well, with Gohan mathematically out of the race, but looking to suck a few people down with them. Shimyang sunk to the bottom, after losing Cheonma and then Shilla, with the latter escaping the relegation battle (finally?). Sinking down would be Taepung, who have dropped 8 points in their last three matches, and Sanghae Yeonhap, who have similarly suffered a big slump. Bulsajo are not far out of the line-up of relegation fighters, but they do have a good cushion for the moment. Meanwhile, middle table warriors Jjambongga piled a big win over Gwangju, with Hui In-Sang providing the biggest lift for the club throughout the match.

And fish sticks!

MD38

One more day of Hell!

Right, the last day for Season 13, and we'll get to see who gets to continue playing ball...

Can we just get on with the results and stuff? No?!? Oh, alright, you pansies.

Kapundae won the League, of course. And they ended the season with a good win over Toban Bulgyo, to set their aspirations for another Group Stage finish (at least) in the TQCC in a good mood. Meanwhile, Seoan Cheonma snook back into the top and stole away the good point from both Yeonseong and Cheonjin. That leaves the two teams with an odd predicament of having to figure out how on earth they'll get seeded for the Globe Cup. SLANI confusion... And all of this lovely attention means that Yongsan will again miss out on the wonderful opportunity to wow foreign clubs (maybe those SLANI Aeropag coordinators would embark to take them out for a nice friendly tournament? just to satiate their appetites? right...).

Anyway, Shimyang are the weakest link. Taepung sealed a confident win to end their season, while giving Shimyang miseries galore in having to face off some rising buds from the Majestic Division. Joining them are Gohan Monggol (of course), Sanghae Yeonhap, and Seoan Bulsajo. They'll all be hoping that they've got a little bit more luck in store for them.

Alright, that's enough. READ.

There's something wrong when Elves score that many goals and don't win the league... But Rosário had a good close second there, just three goals aloft. And Kim Il-Tae manages to draw even with Son Eun-Seok, nonetheless, to get his claim to fame in the top five.

Dong Sei-Yeong (Cheonjin FC) - HAN
Yi Beom-Hyei (Yeonseong FC) - HAN
Menakilis (Kapundae FC) - CAF

Dong Sei-Yong led the league in clean sheets, with 23 of 'em. Yi Beom-Hyei came close with just 22

Defender
Wang Nam-Dong (Yeonseong FC) - HAN
Haesumé (Kapundae FC) - VAL
Shin Su-Su (Yeonseong FC) - HAN

One of the reasons why Yi Beom-Hyei was able to keep them out was because of Wang Nam-Dong. Clearly high quality chap, he is.

Midfielder
Shin Seok-Gyo	(Yeonseong FC) - HAN
Choe In-Jong (Yeonseong FC) - HAN
Wang Jeong-Sang (Cheonjin FC) - HAN

Yeonseong really had a good combination of players in midfield, and Shin Seok-Gyo was one of them. Got mighty many assists.

Striker
Rosário (Cheonjin FC) - CAF
Suiawë Feldireth (Yongsan FC) - VAL
Kim Gihyeon (Gwangju FC) - CAM

He's just a kid, but he was one of those consistently good-playing kids. Rosário has a very bright future in store for him.

Yong-Gu (Dragon-Ball) Player
Rosário (Cheonjin FC) - CAF
Haesumé (Kapundae FC) - VAL
Suiawë Feldireth (Yongsan FC) - VAL

Again, top-notch kid. Rosário is a gem for Cheonjin. SLANI Elves manage to steal the other two blocks...

Manager of the Season
Ioshido Toki - Kapundae FC (CAF)
Choe Sei-Hi - Yeonseong FC (HAN)
Zeph Yan Yin - Yongsan FC (VAL)

Emperor's Cup Semifinals
Kapundae FC 2-1 Seoan Cheonma
Seoan Cheonma 2-0 Kapundae FC
Aggregate: Kapundae FC 2-3 Seoan Cheonma

Gwangju FC 3-2 Cheonjin FC
Cheonjin FC 0-2 Gwangju FC
Aggregate: Gwangju FC 5-2 Cheonjin FC

Oh, now that's a neat twist. Kapundae are now out of the race, following a stellar match by Cheonma at home in front of their fans, and now they'll be looking to get a trophy. Meanwhile, old favorites Gwangju and Cheonjin battled out a ridiculous fanfare in Gwangju, before Gwangju stole away the show at Cheonjin to earn a respectable 5-2 aggregate win and a spot in the Emperor's Cup Final. To put this in perspective... Gwangju have not won the trophy since the NFL; meanwhile, Seoan Cheonma are surprisingly the Cup holders.

Needless to say, this sort of perspect gives automatic top Globe Cup Qualification to Gwangju, since Cheonma have already qualified for the TQCC. Meanwhile, both Yeonseong and Cheonjin get the Globe Cup qualification for being the best placed teams outside of those already qualified for other competitions (i.e. the TQCC).

So, we can confidently say that we've got our qualifiers at this time:

TQCC Qualifiers
Kapundae FC
Seoan Cheonma

Globe cup Qualifiers
Gwangju FC
Cheonjin FC
Yeonseong FC

SBCC Qualifiers
Namgyeong Songhan
Goguryeo FC
Hayan Horangi
Jonam Jigante

Daeweon FC 3-2 Namnyeong FC
Gojin FC 2-0 Gwiyang FC

Bugyeong Yeonhap 2-5 Gyeongdo Sang-an

Gaeshi Huigyo 3-1 Gyeongdo Sang-an

Daepan FC 0-0 Gaeshi Huigyo (1-0 AET)

Daepan FC wins the PD-ND Promotion Championship!

Otherwise, not much turnover between the divisions... Congratz to Gaebong Hongbae for promoting...

Emperor's Cup Final
Seoan Cheonma 3-3 Gwangju FC (3-3 AET) (Gwangju FC wins 5-4 on penalty kicks)

Well, that puts a SLANI kicker on it. Cheonma are now back to old habits (perpetually coming in second place), while Gwangju finally add a (formidable) piece of silverware on their trophy cabinet. Indeed, it's been a long time since Gwangju won anything, and the fact that they have now won the Emperor's Cup a record four times is only encouraging news to the new staff. Great times ahead for Gwangju, if they can keep this sort of form up. Otherwise, it's another ten year wait for trophies...

IFL 14 stuff will go up with a deadline sometime later, presumably after Qualification is done. For the moment, those with players/teams in the IFL are welcome to inquire about changes and stuff. Hopefully, IFL Scorinator 2.0 will be ready in that time.

To placate our UICA viewers, we've added this little section here to help all of you fans follow your clubs into the dismal FAIL that is the UICA. I don't even know why we'd bother with it, since we're never going to win any of the darned things (beyond Samseong sponsoring the whole lot of the losing half, and some Caffy bank selecting one of our stadia for contention, and that SLANI competition that random clubs keep attending for no real reason...). And it's not because our clubs suck mind you; it's because they suck internationally. We suck in the great talent of the world, only for the great talents of the world to prefer playing elsewhere (and with good reason too). So until we stop sucking, the IFL will continue to drag sucking in greater and better talents.

And I'm not saying this because we like vacuums...

Anyway, we're off to the SBCC.

Jonam Jigante: Despite winning the home fixture 2-0, you just couldn't replace that 1-4 deficit away at Sanger. SLANI hell Tentalon...

Hayan Horangi: They lost both fixtures to West Scoville Athletic from the Babbage Islands. And I thought Krytenians were supposed to be good.

Goguryeo FC: Well, no doubt they went out to Pasargans...

Namgyeong Songhan: Another SLANI Tentalon team completes this rout of the SBCC farce. Nice to see you, ta-ta, farewell, so long, and thanks for all the fish.

Globe Cup now!

Yeonseong: Well, well. A win finally. And no doubt, Yeonseong are happy to be at the international stage once again, after almost missing out. They started well with a good and comprehensive 4-0 aggregate win over Icklyrri Icebirds (2-0 wins home and away); they replicated their form against Kelssekian side Langlois Océanic with a 3-0 aggregate win. But they simply stuttered against Sorthern side Sparrowbottom Athletic, failing to score just the one goal to make things alright. Mighty entertaining nonetheless, but in the game, you have to win to go on.

Seoan Cheonma: Right, they lost out at the last stage in the TQCC, and they ended up here. Where they lost out again. Brummie brownies and fudge cakes... but at least they went out on penalties this time.

Cheonjin: Losing 0-1 at home was bad. Winning 1-0 away was good. Too bad the two are mathematically incompatible because the SLANI Jaseuyeon side made it 3-1 aggregate after extra time.

Gwangju: They failed to force those Frenchies surrender, and lost 2-3 on the away fixture. So much for the Emperor's Cup winners...

Kapundae: Well, the only reason why you're reading about them is because they lost. Which is odd, because generally when teams lose, they go somewhere else (home?). In any case, we've discovered a loophole for qualifying for the Group Stage of the Globe Cup (no doubt those SLANI FIX!ers use it to their own benefit as well). Of course, they had to qualify through the Eliminatory Stage, but they produced a stunning 5-3 win away to secure a 5-4 aggregate win over Kagoshima Panthers (COM) before finishing off the qualification round with a 4-1 aggregate win over West Zirconian side Stanley United. And after all that, the Cafundelense club got slotted with Group L group mates Liventia United (LEN), CS Lac-Amédée (SPT) [remember them?], and SLANI Black Oasis Athletic (COM). Needless to say, the outlook was grim. Despite winning every single home match, Kapundae managed to FAIL! at every away match (even that one away match that they should have won or at least draw... SLANI 0-1...). As such, they exited the competition earning 9 points (just one point shy from actually qualifying...). In any case, you can certainly see the coaching greatness exhibited by the former NFT manager Ioshido Toki, who's managed to reach the Group Stage twice in a row (albeit in two different competitions).

And finally, TQCC Results!

Seoan Cheonma: Can we just forget that they were here? Good.

Kapundae: Continuing that great tradition of FAIL, Kapundae met with Mackintosh Thistle Celtic. They lost 1-3 away. They came back home against Mackintosh Thistle Celtic. They won 3-1. And when nothing else could separate them, penalties did.

A notice to everyone with significant interest in the IFL.

We will be closing IFL transfers/sales/loans/cookies next Wednesday at about the same time, after which we will post up the results for one half-season (MD1-MD19). Any deals must be arranged via TG, email (if you don't know it at this stage, you're probably not supposed to be dealing with my email anyway), and possibly IRC (if I find the time for that...). I would strongly encourage foreign contributors to inform me in one manner or another the status of their clubs/players/cookies in the IFL, even if they intend to keep the status quo.

This is fair warning that any deals posted here will be ignored until the poster has made a good faith attempt to validate the post via the aforementioned methods of communication.

Also a note that scouts wanting to conscript players from the IFL have the same period to arrange transfers and the like. We will be likewise making efforts (not likely...) to bring in new/experienced talent to the IFL (except for those clubs managed by foreign entities).

History: Despite impressive previous years, Sanghae Yeonhap is not the power it once was. And that will likely upset the fans, who are forced to choose between one struggling team, and one SLANI team. Ohhh choices...
Last Season: Almost relegated.
Expectations: Don't do anything stupid.

Sanghae Haetae 上海獬豸 - 상해해태
Line-up: Dorothea Obermaie; Matthew Ellis, Yûn Gûn-suŋ, Roy Smith; LeRoy Franklin, Hoŋ Hoŋ-hyi, Gwaŋ Gwon-san, Cwe Il-pil, Im Sug-myuŋ; Jason Bailey, Giorgos Malamas
Bench: Lyû Son-gĭn; Christiane Schenke, Son Si-sam; Rosemary Turner, Euaggelos Turner; Gaŋ Hoŋ-hûn
Stadium: C4 Stadium Sanghae [cap. 64984] Sanghae, Gangso
Manager: Hoŋ Si-gûn (HAN)
Chairman: Jeanne English
Sponsor: C4
History: Sanghae Haetae managed to earn a respectable showing early in the season last time, earning the IFA Cup and a good spot in the Globe Cup. Unfortunately, they forgot to bribe the refs and slipped back into the mid-top table.
Last Season: Comfortably up but out of the UICA qualification.
Expectations: Qualify for the UICA; win another trophy.

Seoan Bulsajo 西安不死鳥 - 서안불사조
Line-up: Yi Gyeong-Sun; Shin In-Cha, Yi Min-Sang, Go Jin-Cheol, Son Tae-Gyeong; Pak Seong-Yeong, Tritor Maníac, Yi Gil-Hong, Han Su-Ha; Jung Ji-Young, Jang Ju-Kwan

Stadium: Silk Road Stadium [cap. 56000] Seoan, Jungjeon
Manager: Yi Yeong-Pyo (HAN)
Chairman: Kim Yi-Eun
Sponsor:
History: Bulsajo really had a good start, coming back. Unfortunately, they forgot how to play in the clausura.
Last Season: Almost relegated - almost got out of the play-offs though.
Expectations: Mid-Table - at least, or else they'll convert to the Starblaydi drunkards' team.

Seoan Cheonma 西安天馬 - 서안천마
Line-up: Han Deok-Na; Pak Jung-Ji, Pak Deok-Deok, Yim Bae-Gyo, Pak Jin-Jeong; Song Tae-Gyeong, Gi Ja-Yong, Hui Ok-Ho, Hwang Kwan-Jung; Yi Jae-Jin, Yi Suk-Yun
Bench: Pak Cheol-Sei; Pak Chan-Gwang, Pak Min-Sang; Pak Chan-Cheol, Hong Jung-Yeong; Pak Gi-Jung
Stadium: [cap. 60000] Seoan, Jungjeon
Manager: Batou Nakamura (STB)
Chairman: Yi Gan-Han
Sponsor: Orcinus
History: Seoan Cheonma continue their tradition of "almost", with two "almost"s from last season. Nonetheless, the injection of a certain Nakamura seems to have lent some stability to the club (of course, he's leading the club, not playing for them).
Last Season: IFL Runner-up, EC Runner-up.
Expectations: Be the Champions!

Shilla FC 新羅FC - 신라FC
Line-up: Kim Yang-Du; Yi Shin-Chan, Choe Nam-Yeom, Seo Myeong-Ha, Shawn Loughran; Shin Mi-Deok, Yi Seung-Yang, Wang In-Dong, Kim Cha-Tae; Kim Dong-Suk, Jeong Seung-Suk
Bench: Yi Sun-Myeong; Choe Sun-Il, Sang Cha-Gyo; Andy Durham, Yi In-Jin; Yeom Chang-Shik
Stadium: [cap. 44000] Busan, Joseon
Manager: Shin Eun-Gyeong (HAN)
Chairman: Pak Sang-Du
Sponsor:
History: They're notably one of the better teams in the IFL, but they surely didn't show it in IFL13.
Last Season: Mid-Table, barely.
Expectations: Get into the UICA! Please?!?

Shimyang FC 瀋陽FC - 심양FC
Line-up: Wang Kwan-Yeol; Escória, Song Gang-Cheon, Pak Jae-Myeong, Yi Hyeon-Kwan; Yi Tae-Eun, Praxis Nikolaidis, Yi Man-Su, Choe Yun-Wan; Song Su-Jung, Jeong Seok-Hwa
Bench: Gi Hwa-Seok; Song Gang-Yeong, Seo Weon-In; Song Son-Hwang, Kim Han-Hi; Song Seong-Jae
Stadium: Balhae Stadium [cap. 45000] Shimyang, Manju
Manager: Yi Gil-Sam (HAN)
Chairman: Yi Gang-Mi
Sponsor:
History: Of the teams sporting a real chance to do stuff, Shimyang really dropped the ball. Literally and figuratively.
Last Season: Almost relegated.
Expectations: Do better, or else they're instituting a citizens' take-over.

Yeonseong FC 燕城FC - 연성FC
Line-up: Wang Yeol-Ha; Yi Jung-Deok, Han Han-In, Wang Gyeong-Ji, Jang Hun-Dong; Kim Yong-Jae, Choe In-Jong, Shin Seok-Gyo, Go Shin-Dong; Sang Gi-Min, Thomas Brodif
Bench: Yi Beom-Hyei; Wang Nam-Dong, Shin Su-Su; Kim Gang-Hyei, Choe Gyo-Cheon; Wang Gyeong-Ae
Stadium: [cap. 32000] Yeonseong, Jungjeon
Manager: Choe Sei-Hi (HAN)
Chairman: Yi Nam-Yun
Sponsor:
History: Despite the negatives, Yeonseong displayed a great season. They consistently played well in front of their non-existent fans, and perhaps because of them, the city isn't necessarily dying the undignified death of extinction from EMP aftermath. They still look menacing and they had the chance to win the league last season.
Last Season: 4th IFL
Expectations: Really, the fans are elated enough as it is... maybe a little more? Yeah, that's right.

Yeiseong Yeonhap 禮城聯合 - 예성연합
Line-up: Pak Hyeon-Kwan; Wang Oh-Han, Kim Jeong-Yeong, Yang Jang-Man, Yi Hwan-Ok; Yim In-Gyeong, Kim Son-Wan, Shin Yong-Jin, Wang Min-Gil; Bong Seung-Seok, Sang Deok-Yeol
Bench: Yang Yeol-Ju; Kim Deok-Gang, Yi Hyei-Gyu; Shin Cha-Hi, Yi Cha-Beom; Go Jong-Gyu
Stadium: [cap. 45000] Yeiseong, Joseon
Manager: Yi Hwan-Jung (HAN)
Chairman: Pak Jeong-Yun
Sponsor:
History: Well, they aren't pace-setters, and they clearly showed that last season. Tradition says that they'll continue to do that. Of course, they're the most lethargic fans on the face on the universe (if the universe has a face...).
Last Season: Bottom-mid table.
Expectations: Meh...

Yongsan FC 龍山FC - 용산FC
Line-up: Areyon Faelandaerl; Melglirdornen, Aerwelelon Orvathar, Merimoran Orvathar; Yi Gil-Yeol, Velerithdil, Hérion Lanlithdar , Seo Gyeong-Ju, Mádhudil Aerasumé; Suiawë Feldireth, Yi Kwan-Wan
Bench: Vandiriel Runerethor; Adandur Narendseer, Bellbellaon Aldvathar; Pak Son-Du, Neurthal Toraloththir, Thanadhamnen Rundilinseer
Stadium: Waella Football Stadium [cap. 43000] Yeiseong, Joseon
Manager: Zeph Yan Yin (VAL)
Chairman: Nessana Runtathina
Sponsor: Viella
History: Zeph Yan Yin has had some hurdles to learn the ropes, but having done that, the fans are eager to see if the club can replicate successes achieved just before them damned terrorists blew up the capital.
Last Season: 5th
Expectations: Win something.

Oreum FC 烏廩FC - 오름FC
Line-up: Shin Hong-Deok; Yi Hun-Ji, Yi Suk-Hwan, Pak Hwa-In, Kim Yeong-Hi; Kim Myeong-In, Pak Jeong-Gil, Kim Hyeon-Gyo, Kim Jong-Yeol; Wang Hwa-Sun, Choe Gang-Han
Bench: Bong Gang-Kwan; Yi Dong-Jang, Kim Seok-Il; Yi Hyeon-Il, Choe Jung-Hong; Kim Sun-Oh
Stadium: [cap. 25000] Oreum, Seogang
Manager: Choe Jong-Min (HAN)
Chairman: Yi Jun-Beom
Sponsor:
History: Oreum FC have never been a real threat, but they demonstrated good resiliency for a club that - similar to Yeonseong - faced extinction at one point. Another confident season should see them try harder to win.
Last Season: Mid-Table.
Expectations: Keep it up boys!

Joseon Dangun 朝鮮檀君 - 조선단군
Line-up: Choe Hong-Gang; Shin Gwang-Min, Yi Su-In, Kim Su-Gang, Shin Gyeong-Ja; Wang Chang-Hyeon, Pak Weon-Tae, Kim Oh-Deok, Kim Sei-Na; Dong Jong-Hyei, Kim Il-Tae
Bench: Bong Gi-Yeong; Hui Yong-Son, Son Ha-Yang; Kim Cha-Yeong, Kim Jang-Sun; Jang Jong-Dae
Stadium: [cap. 54000] Pyeongyang, Joseon
Manager: Kim Gyu-Seong (HAN)
Chairman: Go Gyo-Hyei
Sponsor:
History: Joseon will certainly want to forget what happened last season. Only a few late season heroics from Kim Il-Tae salvaged any honor from an otherwise horrible season.
Last Season: At least they didn't go to the relegation play-offs.
Expectations: DO BETTER!

Jjambongga FC 雜烽佳FC - 짬봉가FC
Line-up: Yan Jíer; Pak Gang-Dae, Wang Shin-Son, Kim Yun-Dong, Jang Son-Hyei; Kim Su-Gil, José Santos, Choe Oh-Myeong, Song Gyeong-Wan; Son Eun-Seok, Wang Sun-Cha
Bench: Yang Min-Oh; Yi Ho-Hyei, Yi Cheon-Gyo; Go Hong-Kwan, Jeong Min-Sei; Hui In-Sang
Stadium: [cap. 36000] Jjambongga, Jonam
Manager: Pak Shin-Oh (HAN)
Chairman: Yi Gil-Dae
Sponsor:
History: Well, Jjambongga surprised some pundits for making it as high as they did last season, but they'll be hard pressed to replicate that success this season.
Last Season: 8th
Expectations: Stay up there!

Cheonjin FC 天津FC - 천진FC
Line-up: Yi Nam-Deok; Agin Kal, Luke Erasmus, Son Seong-Ae, Yang Hi-Yong; Sang Seung-Min, Wang Hyeon-In, Kim Jang-Hwan, Wang Oh-Jong; Rosário, Song Chang-Gang
Bench: Dong Sei-Yeong; Go Cha-Suk, Jung Sang-Hee; Christian Biom, Wang Jeong-Sang; Yi Ae-Hwa
Stadium: [cap. 48000] Cheonjin, Jungjeon
Manager: Yi Hong-Yeong (HAN)
Chairman: Yi Chan-Jeong
Sponsor:
History: Cheonjin FC managed a comfortable season, and while they didn't have a good chance to start with, a top-four finish was as good as any for a club that was under threat of extinction (man, lots of hard words here...)
Last Season: 3rd
Expectations: Win something maybe? Please? Yeah.

Taeweon FC 太原FC - 태원FC
Line-up: Cha Hyei-Gyeong; Shin Suk-Myeong, Dong Gil-Hwa, Jang Gang-Gyeong, Wang Yun-Gyo; Kim Hi-Seong, Pak Jang-Jang, Choe Gang-Na, Yi Hwan-Yeom; Gang Cha-Oh, Wang Gyu-Il
Bench: Kim Han-Gyeong; Pak Jung-Son, Kim Yang-Gyeong; Wang Ha-Gang, Shin Dae-Beom; Kim Chan-Jung
Stadium: [cap. 10000] Taeweon, Jungjeon
Manager: Choe Tae-Shin (HAN)
Chairman: Song Cheol-Yim
Sponsor:
History: If there was a team that could balance out everything, Taeweon would be that team. Neither good, nor bad, nor incredible, nor dumbening.
Last Season: Middle of the %$#^ table.
Expectations: Tip the scales in favor of the top, please?

Toban Bulgyo 土番佛敎 - 토반불교
Line-up: Yi Jun-Ha; Yi Seung-Sun, Pak Sei-Myeong, Yang Seung-Jeong, Choe Yeom-Gil; Choe Na-Jeong, Go Sam-Mi, Sancho Torres, Song Gwang-Cha; Yeom Yeol-Son, Dong Dae-Jang
Bench: Kim Gi-Yong; Hwang Gyo-Jae, Yi Seung-Tae; Wang Man-Nam, Wang Gil-Shin; Pak Sang-Gyo
Stadium: [cap. 10000] Lasa, Seogang
Manager: Kim Shin-Eun (HAN)
Chairman: Choe Seung-Jin
Sponsor:
History: Toban Bulgyo finished in the top half, and really, that was a good result for them. The previous club - Seojang - managed similar feats, so it's no real surprise here to see them try better.
Last Season: 9th
Expectations: Try harder.

Haegu Taepung 海口台風 - 해구태풍
Line-up: Aldir; Pak Hwan-Eun, Sang Wan-Cha, Marcão, Yi Yeol-Yeong; Yi Yong-Ja, Pak Hun-Deok, Min Ho-Seong, Song Hyeon-Sun; Wang Ho-Oh, Shin Hwang-Jeong
Bench: Choe Jang-Eun; Sang Yun-In, Go Yeol-Sun; Go Seong-Dong, Kim Seok-Mi; Son Su-Yong
Stadium: [cap. 29000] Haegu, Gwangjeon
Manager: Hong Myeong-Bo (HAN)
Chairman: Gi Gong-Suk
Sponsor:
History: Taepung had a season to forget, although to be fair, for much of their existence, they were in the MD. So, staying in the league even marginally is good for them.
Last Season: Just barely not threatened with relegation
Expectations: Do better.

And so Season 14 begins once more! Or rather at once, since it has never started before now... And we'll just sit back and watch all of these matches happen in a flurry of weirdness...

Oh really, you want commentary? Well, go read the Candelariasian Journals and see what they have to say about the IFL (zilch, nada, nil). See what the Krytenians have to say about the IFL (zilch, nada, nil). See what the Han have to say about the IFL (ummmm...).

Oh crap. Well, the early end to the World Cup was something of a blessing for most Han clubs (with their lovely Hannie players coming back home to try and salvage some pride in front of their home fans). And while most people around the world weren't really aware of it, some startling things were happening. Notably, change. Change isn't one of those things that happens all of the time, but you can bet your ass on the market that it's going to happen eventually. One of those things that got changed? Well... today is May 24th 4724, but these matches happened almost a year ago, which means we're somewhat behind the normal routine (thanks to some odd 1093 nonRPingnoobistanis cluttering up the World Cup as much as they did). In any case, you'll read them just as they are until we're settled straight. That might also mean the World Cup becomes a two-year cycle (if 1093 more nonRPingnoobistanis decide to show up).

Anyway, on to the real changes - the ones that matter.

And there really isn't any change. Kapundae are still whipping the %$#^ out of everyone, with some minor exceptions. But with their track record, they look on course to win the league title once more. Seoan Cheonma, continuing their run of success, are not far ahead of everyone else in 2nd place (because comparing Kapundae to anyone else is really just bad taste at this moment...); thankfully, roster troubles have not re-surfaced this half-season and they're doing really quite well. And it's not like Cheonma are really that much worse than Kapundae, really. They're just lacking in the defense department for the moment. The surprises: Sanghae Yeonhap, after battling relegation this past season, are now 6th in the League and look to cement their spot in the UICA qualification at their rate, while the SLANI Haetae are loitering on the brink of relegation battles. Another surprise has been the struggling form of Cheonjin. They're not in trouble, but they're also not doing too well either. Only time will tell whether they pick up the pieces and start putting up another wonderful fight for the top spots.

Teams appropriately marked *EC* qualify for the Emperor's Cup in the Clausura season.

IFA Cup

So we're going to talk about this one, because some of you will scratch your heads when you see the results. To give the long story short, we used the wrong modifier, which made all of the teams really closely related to one another. Despite the odd logistical issue, we had a cup final that was worth keeping (and besides, upsets happen all of the time). And just to give our new viewers a look at what the IFA Cup is about... click on the darned link/title; the NSWiki Article is pretty good and comprehensive.

Anyway, starting with the First Round, it's always hard to pick out the upsets, since you're dealing with kids (or amateurs) at this stage. Nonetheless, what's worth noting is the inordinately large number of penalty kicks that ensued 120 minutes of stalemate. Yeah... maybe we'll toy with the idea of putting replays (since 5 round replays are always fun!)...

Anyway, Round 2 is really where it gets interesting because that's when mostly everyone else joins into the messymess. And this is where you get your upsets (if any). And thank the Heavens, we had... not enough. Well, yes, we had some, but there werent' too many high-profile upsets. True, SLANI Haetae crashed out, but they were one of the few forced to play against HD opposition (lucky them, they played one of the worst teams in the HD anyway; of course, they're not doing terribly well in retrospect...). Nonetheless, it was still pretty close for a lot of the teams, with no less than 4 Yafotie PKs.

Dongseo-nambuk 1-1 Bugyeong FC (1-3 AET)
Bojeong Cheolgu 0-2 Yongsan FC

Gyeongdo Sang-an 0-0 Gohan Weonguk (0-0 AET) (Gohan Weonguk wins 4-1 on penalty kicks)
Yeiseong Yeonhap 2-1 Sanghae Haetae

Round 3 is another one of those theoretical hot-spots for upsets, and in contrast to Round 2, we had more of them. Well, again, not a whole lot. Gohan Monggol fell out to Gaebong Hongbae (of course, Gohan Monggol really don't have much going for them...); Minma FC drew out a tense 1-1 draw before defeating Jonam Jigante on PKs; and Ilbon Musa won out over Haegu Taepung 3-2 (and away at that). However, if there ever was an upset of upsets, it would have been that embarrassment that was Yongsan FC, playing against the amateur squad from the capital. It would have been one thing if they lost only narrowly, but for whatever reason, they genuinely tried to lose - and they succeeded with 0-3 reverse. Needless to say, cross-city rival Yeiseong managed to pull out over HD opposition once again (battling against their namesakes from Sanghae), so their fans really let the management know their frustrations. Of course, you might call it bad luck, since Shimyang similarly lost out to Daeman amateurs (but a 0-1 reverse nonetheless).

[pre]Muhan Yeonhap 1-2 Gohan Weonguk

[/pre]

Well, continuing this theme and variations, that amateur team from Gyeongju is really something. Seriously. You get orders to go face the finest army in the world, and all you've got are measly conscripts facing pure professionals. What do you do? Park a bus and hope for the best apparently; they did just that against Kapundae and fought out a tense battle that saw them rise on PKs over one of the pre-tournament favorites. And just now every manager is looking to turn these construction workers and software writers from the capital into professionals... Indeed, in the round that sees the introduction of the eight best-placed UICA qualifiers, Kapundae was the biggest name to fall out. Yeonseong also had some trouble, facing Krytenian outfits Hayan Horangi (incidentally SBCC entrants...) in a 2-3 affair. Minma FC looked to stake another upset against Shilla, but it wasn't meant to be with Shilla pulling out more clinical in the PKs (good for them, because they suck in the IFL right now). Meanwhile, Ilbon Musa added to the list of upsets claiming a win over Cheonjin while the amateur Toban team eeked out a 2-0 away win against MD-side Gohan Weonguk.

Jeongju FC 2-1 Goguryeo FC
Oreum FC 2-3 Boksan FC
Gohan Weonguk 0-2 Toban
Hayan Horangi 3-2 Yeonseong FC
Seoan Cheonma 1-0 Hwarang Wundong
Jjambongga FC 1-1 Joseon Dangun (2-1 AET)
Gwangju FC 3-0 Dongsan
Kapundae FC 1-1 Gyeongju (1-1 AET) (Gyeongju wins 4-1 on penalty kicks)
Gohan Monggol 0-1 Daebo FC
Daenam FC 1-1 Daeman (1-2 AET)
Gyeongdo Paljiyo 2-2 Namgyeong Songhan (2-3 AET)
Minma FC 1-1 Shilla FC (1-1 AET) (Shilla FC wins 4-1 on penalty kicks)
Cheonjin FC 2-2 Ilbon Musa (2-2 AET) (Ilbon Musa wins 4-2 on penalty kicks)
Weonnam 4-0 Hapbin FC
Jangsa FC 1-1 Gwangdong (1-1 AET) (Gwangdong wins 5-3 on penalty kicks)
Bokju FC 2-1 Yeiseong Yeonhap

And at this point you're shaking your head, scratching something in order to comprehend how a team of amateurs makes the quarterfinals. Well... if you stick two amateur teams in the same fixture, you're destined to get one of them to go on (unless they disqualify... which in the world of semiperfect cup ties doesn't happen at all). Nonetheless, it was either Gwangdong or Toban, and Toban just proved better today. Weonnam joins them in the quarterfinals after beating MD-side Hayan Horangi in extra time. Meanwhile, amateur-side Gyeongju fell out against fellow amateurs Daeman (geez, this seems more and more like an amateur's cup...), while uneventful wins for the other top teams has lent some air of WTF? to this whole tournament.

Daebo FC 2-3 Boksan FC
Weonnam 2-2 Hayan Horangi (3-2 AET)
Namgyeong Songhan 1-0 Jeongju FC
Daeman 1-0 Gyeongju
Gwangju FC 1-2 Seoan Cheonma
Shilla FC 1-0 Bokju FC
Ilbon Musa 2-2 Jjambongga FC (2-2 AET) (Jjambongga FC wins 4-1 on penalty kicks)
Gwangdong 1-2 Toban

At this point, no amateur clubs should be lingering, and yet Toban have come away with a slender 1-0 win away at HD-side Jjambongga FC. There's just no justifying the way this match turned out... Seoan Cheonma restored a bit of the HD-honor, dispatching Daeman after a shaky start gave some of the home faithful the impression that lightning was going to strike them as well. Shilla had a more nervy affair, but a 2-1 win in extra time puts them in the semifinals, while Boksan FC rounds out the list of semifinalists after defeating Namgyeong Songhan at home. Ironically, Boksan is doing so horribly in the division, but anything victory like this has the chance to work miracles for the second half. Namgyeong faithful, on the other hand, are wondering if they're getting enough dope from Nethertopia.

Jjambongga FC 0-1 Toban
Seoan Cheonma 3-1 Daeman
Shilla FC 1-1 Weonnam (2-1 AET)
Boksan FC 2-1 Namgyeong Songhan

And so, after all of those upsets, we still have an all-HD Cup Final (dammit...). Cheonma needed some penalties to settle a nervy affair against Boksan, battling ever so hard for some morale support. Nonetheless, the Cheonma faithful will be delighted to renew their cup rivalry with Shilla, who likewise needed some luck in 1-0 win over the last lingering amateur team in the Cup. This is in fact the third time that these two sides will have butted heads for the Final (the first IFA Cup was a tense 2-1 win for Shilla, while Seoan [then "Gukjei"] finished a 2-1 win in the Emperor's Cup). And as the Cheonma faithful prepare to line the terraces at Jungan Stadium in Gyeongju, they will know that the history favors Shilla. Nonetheless, recent form suggests that the momentum lies with Cheonma, as Nakamura and company look to add the one domestic trophy missing in their cabinet.

Boksan FC 1-1 Seoan Cheonma (1-1 AET) (Seoan Cheonma wins 3-0 on penalty kicks)
Toban 0-1 Shilla FC

Well, it had to be said that for the tenth time, the final score in a cup final match was 2-1.

Of course, we couldn't just tell you what happened in plain view, which means we get to take full advantage of these spoilers. In any case, it wasn't a neat 2-1 win for Cheonma. Despite recent form, Shilla put out a strong fight and earned the early lead through Kim Dong-Suk's 14th minute strike. It was a neat curve that looped around a host of defenders placed in awkward spots, which really left Han Deok-Na with no chance to stop the ball. But Nakamura really pressed on to fight for a win. Defense consolidated and coordinated better, and an injury to Kim Yang-Du forced Shilla manager Shin Eun-Gyeong to make an unusual goalkeeper substitution. In any case, Shilla held out for the lead at half-time, missing their own chance to take a firm lead through Shawn Loughran's incisive cross.

Cheonma came out of the interval looking the side to win, and they leveled the score within the first 5 minutes. And taking up possession, the game was really up to Cheonma now. Shilla could only really hope to hold out for penalties, and it looked to be going that way. Despite their possession, Cheonma lacked their clinical finish, and Yi Suk-Yun really wasted some good opportunities to gift the lead to Cheonma, either by shooting straight at the keeper or missing terribly. And his profligacy was starting to hurt Cheonma, as Shilla relied more and more upon the counterattack, to break apart the tired defenders. Nakamura took out Yi Suk-Yun and put on the talismanic Pak Gi-Jung, who had been a pivotal striker for the club during the later stages of the IFL last season. The young striker has taken his spot at the starting side of the club many times this season, as he looks to build on his profile, and for this opportunity, Pak really took it to heart.

Of course... he didn't score. Yeah, 90 minutes done and the score was all square. Instead, Gi Ja-Yong lifted a curt little ball just with 10 minutes to spare in extra time, finding the most unlikeliest of all recipients to nod the ball into the net: Yi Sun-Myeong. Yeah... you're all "what?" now, but that was the guy Shin Eun-Gyeong sent out to replaced Kim Yang-Du in the net. That's right. Own goal. In the 111th minute. Terrible way to end the IFA Cup, but that's what happened. And it gifted Cheonma the trophy. End of story.

But perhaps the only consolation that Shilla get is the fact that Cheonma had already qualified ahead in the TQCC, which leaves that final Globe Cup spot out to Shilla. And once again, Yongsan miss out only just so to get a UICA spot. And until the clausura season comes rolling along, we'll leave things at that.

It's seldom you find anything interesting in the Academy Cup, but because it's the one route of qualification for the IUCC, it's nice to note that there are kids here who will one day find themselves flipping burgers because of some career-ending injury. So let's all hope that they do well while they still can.

Round 1
Han Hawks Academy 1-2 Seoan Cheonma Academy
Hwarang Wundong 1-1 Yeonsei University (2-2 AET) (Yeonsei University wins 3-2 on penalty kicks)
Sungsan Academy 1-0 Namgyeong Songhan Academy
Imperial Academy 2-2 Gyeongdo University (3-3 AET) (Imperial Academy wins 2-1 on penalty kicks)
Sanghae Haetae Academy 1-1 Shilla Academy (2-1 AET)
Gyeongju University 1-0 Goguryeo Academy
Joseon University 1-2 Yongsan Academy
Daeman University 1-1 Cheonjin Academy (2-1 AET)

Round 2
Seoan Cheonma Academy 1-2 Yeonsei University
Sungsan Academy 2-0 Imperial Academy
Sanghae Haetae Academy 1-1 Gyeongju University (1-2 AET)
Yongsan Academy 2-1 Daeman University

Round 3
Yeonsei University 3-1 Sungsan Academy
Gyeongju University 0-2 Yongsan Academy

IUCC Qualification Run-off
Sungsan Academy 4-2 Gyeongju University

Final
Yeonsei University 3-2 Yongsan Academy

And unlike to previous "two" editions, the IUCC will be contested by two Academy teams. And once again, the "top" seed of the tournament failed to even make it to the next round. Maybe we're being a little too harsh on the little brats...

To placate our UICA viewers, we've added this little section here to help all of you fans follow your clubs into the dismal FAIL that is the UICA (and btw, the dismal FAIL refers to the Han teams trying to think that they can do anything internationally... although one could argue the other way too...). Anyway, we all know how this thing turns out because you've had the luxury to read it in the IDSN, so feel free to fall asleep right now and wake up a few scrolls down. Yeah, that's right... now, just keep that way until we unfurl your cash reserves and steal your trousers (because some people don't agree on the meaning of the word "pants"...).

So, it's the SBCC.

Gohan Weonguk: Fog... that's just about what we can say about this fixture.

Han Hawks FC: Despite winning the first leg at home, West Zirconian-outfits Etruria managed a 2-0 win at home to win the series 3-2 on aggregate. That leaves us 0-2.

Daebo FC: Orly? We've never really heard of these chaps, and they go ahead and shatter our expectations by not only winning their second round fixture against North Fork FC, but they win it comfortably 4-0 on aggregate. Go figure - now we've got to figure out who we sent... Fortunately, whoever was working on the reality machine decided to fix it and Daebo got their ticket home after falling quite heavily to West Coast Angels.

Goguryeo FC: You never really see these kids around here, but they're here, and it looks like they might be here to stay. Until they promote... In the meantime, they stole up that place in the final qualification round and it was an uneasy 2-1 win at home that set up the severe case of indigestion 1-2 loss away from home. Add up the numbers and the SLANI organizers had the only PK shoot-out of the round. Which Goguryeo won. Which means that they progressed to the Group Stage. Which means that we're going to need more coffee to tell all of this out. Actually we don't if we can skimp a little bit (it seems like every time we do this, these kids keep doing better and better, meaning we have to write more and more about them... can't we just say they lost and get it on with it? orly? we don't have to say anything? Beautiful...), but skimping isn't written in our writing contract. Anyway, Group G for Goguryeo was about as neat as it really got, since we got slammed into a group of really weird names: Kinney Road, Ojedo Cerro, and weirdest of all Tallahassee Blues (at least they're weird to us...). In any case, it was a marriage of weird names and weird players (who actually plays in these 2nd Division clubs?!?) as Goguryeo managed a laudable but insufficient 3rd place finish with 2 wins, 2 draws, and 2 losses (they were literally 1 draw away from qualifying). So... you can have your soap and eat it too.

Globe Cup now!

Seoan Bulsajo: Taking a 3-2 lead from home, they squandered chances away to give Pyrasomethingorwhatever the win on away goals.

Malla Yeonhap: Whataretheydoinhere?!? OMFG! This system is so wrong! Where's Cheonjin? Where's Gwangju? Where's Yeonseong? Oh mommy, I want my lolly :(

Feigned shock aside, Malla Yeonhap were really lucky to get here in our opinion and they certainly showed it by beating the bejeezus out of South Harbor. Waitaminit, that doesn't sound right... Anyway, pundits lauding a rather freak show of force by the rather obscure Han club were forced to shovel up the ensuing 7-5 aggregate loss to Liventia United.

Shilla: The one club that doesn't seem out of the ordinary got their chance to play two matches and qualify for the Group Stage. Instead, when they opened up their cookie, they got a 2-0 aggregate loss (after holding Protectorate United to a SLANI Yafotie at home) and a little crumbled message saying "Please try again". SLANI fortune cookies...

Seoan Cheonma: Well, cutting right to the cheese, Cheonma earned their spot after a long and arduous journey through the TQCC qualification, only to end up here... in Group I... with Sporting San Marquez, El din Marbles, and FC Capri. In the long run, FC Capri would end up as this season's finalists, so we really can't complain that they got third place after all of their troubles.

Kapundae: Yeah, they got here too, but only after getting third place in their Group in the TQCC. Second chances are a marvel, aren't they? Anyway, Ioshido Toki got to show off some of his tactical brilliance by actually winning one of these darned matches for the first time ever (for a Han club). And against rather fierce opposition as well. Dunboor FC are not the cream of the crop in Cafundéu, but they're certainly one up at the top of their division. So for to take a 1-2 loss at home and convert it into a 2-0 win away must have done wonders for the home crowd back in Malnira. It also must done Banco Econômico proud, to have their proteges beat up one of the other competitors from the Primerona (of course, they did have to win the match in Cafundéu to avoid paying that loser's tax thingy... and they probably get that winner's tax credit and aggregate winner's tax credit, and the tax on the tax credit, and the tax on the credit for football-related taxes, and the beloved tax on a tax...). Unfortunately, you couldn't count on the same sort of luck going for them going into the Quarterfinals against Mort Park, where a clear 0-3 loss in West Zirconia kind of negated that 3-2 win in Malnira, giving Mort Park the aggregate. Note to Ioshido, stop losing then winning these darned series. It's not doing wonders for my blood pressure, y'know...

And finally, TQCC Results!

Seoan Cheonma: You would have resigned their fates to losing out in the first round after falling 1-3 away at South Harbor, but a 3-0 return gave Cheonma a need lift on top following their IFA Cup triumph. Equally tough opposition from West-Zirconian side Banks proved quite exhilarating 4-3 aggregate win, while they guaranteed themselves a minimum Globe Cup finish by reaching the Play-off Round through a 3-2 aggregate win over Leas (although playing in a stadium made of white porcelain and the pitch composed of questionable material, one could sympathize with the players for losing that away fixture). Heading up against El Nacional, they stumbled out 0-3 on aggregate (and it's true what they say about scoring and winning, don't care what them Yafoties want to say...) to head back to the Globe Cup Group Stage.

Kapundae: It was a convincing 2-legged win against North Ward, an aggregate 5-3 win that saw Kapundae progress to the Third Round (yeah, they started a bit late in the line, but that's the privilege of being the champion). Moreover, a tense 2-1 aggregate win over Metalurgs saw them move back into the Play-offs, with a minimum Globe Cup appearance now assured. You'd have thought that such confidence on the international scene would provide the club some encouragement, but... they took a 0-1 disadvantage away from home to Bayern-Algaer, and they seemed a bit edgy playing the Taeshani club at home. Nonetheless, 2 goals away did the job and they were through to the Group Stage for the third time running. And Heaven help us - Albrecht FC, Neurologists, and El Nacional (remember them?) decided to come play along in Group A. We were sure that the AFC match was certain to be a dead one, and the other competition were equally as difficult. However, it seems that Albrecht FC had a lull in their footballing prowess, with the defending champions heading out of the Group Stage thanks to some sloppy away defending (and home defending at that). Nonetheless, a win over Albrecht FC and a win over El Nacional were sufficient to give Kapundae a pivotal third place finish in the Group Stage (yeah, it would have been nicer to actually win, but El Nacional it seems is in the TQCC final anyway, so we'll take what we can and wring every drop out of it). And everyone knows what that means... (scroll back up if you don't).

Clausura Season 14

Postby Daehanjeiguk » Mon May 31, 2010 10:55 am

Right, so we're just going to cut straight to the chase about... whatever...

Transfers:
Rosário (Cheonjin) to Rio Bonito (CFD)
probably no one else...

An uneventful end to the season. Was it ever really a doubt that Kapundae would ever not lose the title for the second time running? I mean, consider the following: they've got a world-class manager at the helm; the players, as diverse as they can come, are world-class; top player of the season - Soneca - bagged an awesome 22 goals, beaten only by Yi Suk-Yun (25) of Seoan Cheonma and Tûrin Elensumé (23) of Yongsan. The team amassed an impressive 84 points, claiming an 18-point lead on the rest of the competition. And you know... everyone's going to want to copy their style now. Which might be good for the league, but for the moment, it's really bad. In fact, it's terrible, because the IFA has been since pushing a program of really competitive Han teams, and if that really only means one team is internationally competitive (and at the moment, it's looking that way), then we've got serious problems.

Consider the other facts... Seoan Cheonma got knocked off after an impressive mid-season to stutter down to their worst season performance since ... who knows?!? Nonetheless, a 6th place finish isn't all too bad, but their chance at sealing a UICA spot is certainly in jeopardy (as soon as we figure out all of the Emperor's Cup stuffs). The surprise 2nd place holder is - in fact - Malla Yeonhap, meaning that for the first time ever, Jonam has sealed all of the TQCC qualification spots for the entire country. And that's really distressing, considering the amount of talent that actually rests in Jonam... Shimyang, after a poor last season, recovered marvelously to new heights, claiming a 3rd place finish, while Sanghae Yeonhap similarly redeemed themselves by finishing with the last guaranteed UICA spot. Not so surprising but otherwise unimpressive forms this season have led to Gwangju's utter piss-poor position, with a desperate fight against relegation coming up for last season's EC champions. Cheonjin, for their part, having sold their most prolific striker out to Rio Bonito, collapsed and fought hard just to guarantee their place in the HD next season.

And Yongsan... after three chances to earn a spot, they're now hoping for a good performance in the Emperor's Cup to qualify for the UICA stuff. Perhaps the only thing that we can say with absolute certainty now is that SLANI elves PWNzors SLANI SLANI.

Round 6

And so after a long and tumultuous season, two teams with little chance on qualifying for the Globe Cup have made the finals, and all of the sudden, it looks a little more like... normal. Needless to say, the progenitors of Seoan Cheonma and Yongsan FC have been battling out this fight ever since we decided that they've been battling, and sometimes it's been a entertaining draw. Yongsan, for their part, had to battle through the likes of Kapundae - reigning champions - to put their hopes of a domestic double beyond them once again. And they clinched the final berth with a mesmerizing 3-1 finish back in Yeiseong, after having left the league champions on hold 1-1 back in Malla. Cheonma, on the other hand, had weaker opposition, and despite a few struggles, they've managed to pull off the effort required to reach the final.

And so Elves versus Starblaydi drinks...

Yongsan FC 1-1 Seoan Cheonma (1-2 AET)

In the end, Cheonma win their 3rd title, having reached the final three consecutive times now. Yongsan, after all of the bravery and bravura, must go home empty-handed once again.
