BoF35: official thread (roleplay, rosters, scores, queries)

Welcome to Somewhereistonia and Kura-Pelland. Or, rather, welcome imminently to one or the other, as you will be based in one of the two dependent upon the draw.

This is your chance to show the world what you're made of. Good performances here are historically a guide to the future, so the pressure is on. And this tournament is definitely a baptism of fire, because you will be thrown straight into knockout competition courtesy of our double-elimination structure, where you will be eliminated if you lose two games. One slip is expected; two, and you're gone. (With an outside chance of an exception, see below.)

The 40 teams will be divided into four ten-team 'regional rounds' - two in each country, divided geographically. Each works identically:

* On the first matchday, every team will play a match, paired up randomly within their bracket. The winners move into the 'winners bracket', and are joined by the losing team with the highest RP bonus as determined by the host; the other four teams enter the 'losers bracket'.
* On the second matchday, teams in the winners bracket play each other, and likewise the losers bracket. Losers in the losers bracket are eliminated; the three winning teams in the winners bracket stay there, as does the losing team with the highest RP bonus (unless they also lost the first round match, in which case they automatically drop into the losers bracket but can still survive despite losing twice), and the other two losers move into the losers bracket alongside the two winners in that bracket. There are now four teams in each bracket.
* On the third matchday, teams in each bracket play each other. The principle is now simple - lose in the winners bracket and you go into the losers bracket; lose in the losers bracket, and you're going home.
* This continues until there is only one team left in each bracket - they then play each other in the 'regional final'. At this point, the tournament is single-elimination - lose, you go home.
* The winners of each regional final from one nation play each other in the 'national final', and the winners of each national final will play the 'grand final' for the BoF trophy.

This is best displayed visually. (This starts on matchday two; matchday one is a 'sorting day', splitting teams between brackets.) Don't worry, we'll always make it clear where you stand!

All enquiries go in this thread, as do roleplays (obviously), scores (when we post them) and rosters (squad lists, if you think 'rosters' sounds horribly American ;) ), with which you are strongly encouraged to provide a list of roleplaying permissions for your opponents if they RP before you do:

In the event my opponent posts an RP first, they may:

Select my scorers
Give out yellow cards to my players
Give out red cards to my players
RP injuries to my players
Godmod injuries
Godmod scoring events
Godmod other events

(delete as appropriate. In sports roleplaying, 'godmodding' refers to anything impossible or at least ridiculously unlikely in reality, and is perfectly acceptable in sports roleplaying especially if used for comedy - this is because you cannot change the results, only RP around them. See also this link.)

You are also encouraged to post a style modifier, to determine how attack- or defence-minded your team is. This can be any number (including decimals) in the range -3 (most defensive) to +3 (most attacking). More attacking teams will score and concede more goals - the effect is equal, and so the effect on your probability of winning is at most nominal.

Official Roster of the New Montreal States Paladins

Presented by the New Montreal States Ministry of Morale

Manager: Albion Cartwright, assistant manager, NM Patriotes - the first-ever manager of the regular-side Paladins without previous club- or international-level experience. His strong performance at the U21s convinced the Ministry and the average citizen that he was the best man for the job.

Assistant Manager: Nhan Thien Long, manager, Repentigny War Eagles - one of the few NMSFL-caliber managers willing to work under an assistant manager. Capable defense and keepers coach will free up Cartwright to focus on the midfield, the one area that needs to gel quickly if the Paladins are to be in the least effective this tournament.

Formation: The traditional 2-6-2.
Style Modifier: The equally traditional +1.

Official kit, a fine JMC product from Krytenia

Image

Goalkeepers: 00 Bartholomew Oates, age 20, NM Patriotes - his performance in the first half of the U21s alone justified his being signed to the largest ever rookie contract in the history of the NMSFL, by...the Patriotes. Quelle surprise.

14 Marcel Lemieux, age 25, St. James Seagulls
16 Andre Thivierge, age 18, unsigned

Defenders: 80 Dennis Flaherty, age 19, ASA New Montreal - bruising center-back with good tackling form and even better strength. Gets into yellow-card related trouble fairly often, though.
69 Thierry Bertelette, age 24, Philemon Mariners - best defender in the NMSFL needed to be carried on the roster and started, his abysmal performance in the Oxen Cup be damned. Good range and speed. Cartwright would much rather be starting Thivierge-Aubain, however, so expect Bertelette to be kept on a short leash.

20 Jules Thivierge-Aubain, age 22, Dorion Poules
8 David Grey, age 19, Alliance New Antioch

Midfielders: 11 Louis St-Orthel (C), age 22, NM Patriotes - genius on-field coordinator and passer; good locker room presence and leadership skills make him the youthful captain of a youthful team. May fold under intense pressure.
27 Jean-Hilare Lepire, age 24, Angiers Metropolitan ASF - would play wing-back, if the system called for one. Good range, good tackling, but something of an offensive liability. May be used as a sweeper if the situation requires it.
13 Fabrice Thibault, age 20, CF Valdemont - above average in all aspects of play; excels at none. Still rough around the edges.
31 Denis Pierrard, age 21, Repentigny War Eagles - familiarity with Nhan Thien's defensive schemes will make him a valuable defensive asset. Excellent short- and mid-range passer. Streaky.
2 Alex Kirk, age 17, CF Sherbrooke - surprise member of the lineup. Best raw talent to come out of the 'States in decades - but a heavy emphasis on the "raw." Will show flashes of brilliance followed by moments that will make you want to shoot your television.
49 Bertram Wooster, age 20, Moncton Sands Coyotes - the Coyotes have started using him as a striker, but the presence of Cornell and Vedère have sent him back to the attacking midfield. Great second-wave shooter, dangerous on rebounds and deflections. Defensive liability.

17 Fabien Montpetit, age 25, Dorion Poules
67 Andy Barston, age 24, Moncton Sands Coyotes
18 Theodore Cournois, age 20, Sorel Black Dragons
33 Brandon Baxter, age 23, Cité Laval
42 Rémy Beauchamp, age 21, St. James Seagulls
91 André Beauregard, age 29, Philemon Mariners

Strikers: 7 Christophe "Mailman" Cornell (A), age 19, NM Patriotes - great speed and power. Accuracy still a little uncertain, as well as his ability to pass the ball back. Nevertheless, the sky's the limit for this bloke.
10 Édouard "Animal" Vedère (penalties), age 20, St. James Seagulls - can feed Cornell or make his own shot. Good accuracy and decent speed; power somewhat lacking. The second half of what should be a long-lasting dynamic duo for the Paladins.

0 Richard Thibault, age 26, CF Sherbrooke
6 Clyde Draper, age 25, CF Ville-Marie

In the event my opponent posts an RP first, they may:

Select my scorers
Give out yellow cards to my players
Give out red cards to my players
RP (nonlasting) injuries to my players
Godmod (nonlasting) injuries

Postby Pays de Horreur » Sat Aug 15, 2009 5:43 am

Represnting Pays de Horreur is a cavalcade of our many freaks, monsters and footballing attractions.
Italic denotes non-human player.

Coach – Eorl Vandenbussche. Cut his teeth coaching St. Judas Insanitorium. After years of drilling clinically insane inmates on formations and tactics the Pays de Horreur F.A rewarded his hard work by appointing him national team coach. A stickler for precision and hard work, Vandenbussche will not let his team slack off.

Assistant – Malcolm MacDowell. Eorl’s assistant at St. Judas, the much beleaguered right hand man was often the one in the firing line when things at St. Judas weren’t going quite to plan. If Pays de Horreur drop the ball here at BoF35 he’ll be the guy who gets it in the neck.

Goalkeeper. 1. Montavarious D. Delph. Don’t let the decomposition fool you, this zombie goalkeeper still has great reflexes. Plies his trade for Z.Z. Zombies.

Right back. 2. Sebastian Craine. Plays right back for St. Judas, notorious axe murderer known just as well for his rough tackling. Craine likes to play rough and isn’t adverse to picking up a card or two throughout the season.

Left back. 3. Arthur Crowe. First choice for the Thelwell 666ers but a surprise starter for the national team. Good vision but often found to wander from his defensive line. Crowe needs to be on top of his game here as he doesn’t have the pace for chasing attackers.

Centreback. 4. Orgo. For an 8ft centreback he has sublime ball control skills he is also ideal for defending corners. The national team captain has a great footballing brain inside his massive head and can influence a game from the back.

Centreback. 5. Val Pringle is another St Judas inmate who makes the team. More insane than criminal, he once shaved a horse. His defensive style is equally erratic, he is prone to moments of brilliance then moments of sheer atrocious football.

Left Midfield. 6. Kevin Thorn. Abmorph Rangers shining star. It is often remarked he “got all the good bits” when created in Dr. Caine’s lab. Fast, agile and a fantastic crosser of the ball, his only downfall is his poor defensive capabilities.

Right Midfield. 7. Horace Burnam. Depending on the time of day and the lunar cycle he’ll either be in wolf mode or as a man. Pacy winger and a great dead ball specialist.

Defensive Midfield. 8. Percy Smithers. Percy used to dress up as his mother, just another reason why she had him committed. The St. Judas midfielder is tough tackler who adds some bite to an otherwise attack minded midfield.

Attack. 9. Lester Crabtree. Thelwell 666ers star striker is looking to shine for his country. Brings with him a lethal eye for goal and a class touch.

Attacking Midfield. 10. Raven Noir. Rechristened after recent vampirification, Raven is a classy attacking midfielder and the team’s only vampire representative. Bit of a dick by all accounts.

Attack. 11. Thomas Fecklin. The Portdiabolic Buccaneers forward is looking to get his hands on the BoF to appease the ancient spirits controlling his domestic team. Will therefore sweat blood for the team in their pursuit of the championship.

Subs.
Gkp. 13. Forrest Whitman of Thelwell 666ers
RB. 14. Baxter Stoch of Portdiabolic Buccaneers
LB. 15. Meurl of Ordsall Giants
CB. 16. Keith Brannigan of St. Judas Insanitorium
CB. 17. Wesley Winkle of Z.Z.Zombies
RM. 18. Dr. Barry Malmouth of Thelwell 666ers
DM. 19. Drew “Halloween Slasher” McKeegan of St. Judas Insanitorium
CM. 20. Axel of Skivash Wolves
CM. 21. Andrew Thompson of Trioxin Labs
STR. 22. Valerie James of St. Judas Insanitorium
STR. 23. Pete Gass of Abmorph Rangers.

Eastern Volleyball

In the city of Ameshurst, about 10 metres from the crashing waves of Forearm Ocean, stands the association football headquarters of Eastern Volleyball. In a tiny room with what looks like an old desk used in secondary schools, the FA chairman Earl Layton sits on his own whilst a selection of jounalists from the world's media stand ready to make notes.

"As most of you are probably aware, we've applied to participate in the 35th edition of the Baptism of Fire in preparation for our first World Cup campaign. I'm delighted to say that the application was accepted a few days ago. We've been working hard these past 3 days on selecting a manager and proud to introduce you to Torhampton Gulls manager Duncan Jarrett who will lead the country's team to what will hopefully be our first piece of silverware".

Duncan Jarrett walks into the cramped room and pushes his way to the desk among a barrage of flashing cameras. He sports an Eastern Volleyball home shirt, red and black halves with a white neck trim and a pair of dark blue jeans. "It's a pleasure to be named manager of this brand new team. As you know, I've took Torhampton Gulls to 2 league titles in the 2 years the league has existed, and I'm confident I can build a strong squad here and make them a winning side. Here is the squad I have picked for the upcoming Baptism of Fire". Jarrett pins a piece of paper up the wall listing the below.

MOCEK'S FOOTBALL TALK

The nation is excited, the fans are gearing up, all in preparation for the Baptism of Fire, and afterwards, the World Cup qualifiying campaign. It is going to be Catmeowland's first participation in any major event. In all this excitement , I managed to catch Catmeowland coach Micek Afulicek and have a little talk with him. Afulicek said: "This is our first major event and we do not expect much. Our team is well-prepared and we'll do our best to please the fans. We are not yet thinking of World Cup qualifiying. We are currently concentrated only on the Baptism of Fire." That's what good ol' Micek thinks. I say that we might be newcomers, but these boys are the best in our nation and they can certainly achieve something.

That's all for today.

Preface to Pays de Horreur's Baptism of Fire.

I was at my desk, piecing together the last known movements of a missing girl, when officer Lugosi came over, he looked flustered.

“Sir, the missing girl, we’ve found her.”
“Is she?” I squinted, I already kenw the answer.
“Very much so. But we’ve also got a lead on a suspect.”
“Good, get ‘em in for questioning.”
“Ah, there’s a slight problem with that.” He could have said this sooner, I thought
“Which is?”
“He’s with the international football team, overseas.”

August 15th, Carrie Shelley disappeared after heading out to a party in the centre of Castlevania, capital of Pays de Horreur and a town with a massive multi-species population. Having gone to a few clubs with friends, Carrie said she was going home, only to never arrive back home.

Standard disclaimer FTW: The Weegie Government's Department of Culture, Sport, and Tourism allows anything and everything to happen in a game, as long as it is properly disciplined by the referee, police, security services, army, or your gran. In the event something does happen to our players, we must note that a few thousand drunken, angry Weegies will camp out outside your National Football association and chuck things at anyone going in or coming out.

The Weegie national football team play their home games either in The People's Stadium, Mackintosh (capacity 65,146) or The Dear Green Place, Mackintosh (capacity 73,211). They wear a home shirt of dark green and dark blue vertical stripes, white shorts with dark green numbers on the sides, and white socks, and an away shirt of dark blue and red, bisected diagonally across the shirt, dark blue shorts with red numbers on the side, and red socks.

Away:

Kits provided by X-Spordiga.

They will be playing in a 4-5-1 formation, usually, although injuries and cards may affect that. Numbers 1-11 are the usual starting line-up, although, again, injuries and cards may affect that. First position noted is the strongest position for that player.

Style Modifier: +1.

Manager:

Ally Daniels, 43.

Ally Daniels was previously manager of Cialtag Rovers for 6 seasons before being offered the Weegie national side job by the WFA. Considered a second-rate team at best, his canny defensive play and excellent man-management skills have meant that the Rovers have often ended up the season amongst top sides like Lylia Foresters or Buchanan L.F.C, and they won the 2005/06 season, the first time Cialtag Rovers had ever done so. Only a spate of injuries this season meant that they missed out on a place in international club competition. Before managing, Ally Daniels was a goalkeeper for Weegie League First Division team Soothside City, where he performed creditably.

Goalkeepers:

1. Jim McConnell, 32, Mackintosh Armadillos
12. Karl McBride, 24, Carlsson Rangers
14. Connor Ritchie, 19, Lylia Foresters

Defenders:

2. Frank Pedersen, 24, left-back, Mackintosh Thistle Celtic
3. Aidan Gordon, 28, left-back/centre-back, Lylia Foresters
5. Louie MacBain, 18, centre-back/sweeper, Cialtag Rovers
6. John Winters, 25, right-back/left-back, Hanover Town
13. Jamie Calderwood, 21, centre-back/defensive midfielder, Trams Union United
15. Alan Wallander, 34, left-back/centre-back Mackintosh Thistle Celtic
16. Kirk Paulsen, 26, left-back/centre-back/right-back, Mackintosh Thistle Celtic
17. Lyle Anderson, 29, right-back, Buchanan L.F.C
26. Maurice McDonald, 24, centre-back/centre-forward, Trams Union United

Midfielders:

4. Barry King, 30, left-winger/left-back, Trams Union United
7. Don McKie, 26, attacking midfielder/left-winger/right-winger, Carlsson Rangers
8. Lawrence McKillop, 28, midfielder/defensive midfielder/sweeper, Mackintosh Thistle Celtic
9. Rowan Thompson, 34, attacking midfielder, Buchanan L.F.C.
11. Paul Larsen, 17, right-winger, Mackintosh Thistle Celtic
18. Jimmy Wilson, 25, left-winger/attacking midfielder, Buchanan L.F.C
19. Thomas Persson, 22, defensive midfielder, Lylia Foresters
20. Peter McLeish, 31, right-winger, Bearsden Pandas
21. Johnny Williams, 26, defensive midfielder, Aigh nas Chlalnachan
22. Owen McClair, 19, defensive midfielder/left-winger/right-winger, Mackintosh Armadillos
25. Ewan Macallan, 27, Lylia Foresters

Postby Catmeowland » Fri Aug 21, 2009 11:16 am

Catmeowland coach Micek Afulicek was sitting at his desk. He was very nervous.
" *grumble grumble* ... first match... *grumble grumble* lineups..."

Just as he was getting to his second round of grumbling, his door opened.
"Who's there?!" , he yelled.
A well-dressed man came in and said : "I'm Necek Tofcek, and I'm here to help you."
"Help me ?!"
"Yes."

Afulicek was confused. What does this man want?

"I will help you with preparing your team for the Baptism of Fire. For a good wage, I will be your assistant."
Afulicek replied: "But Tontoncek is already--"
"Don't worry, he knows."
"I don't like you. This better not be some sick joke".
"There's nothing to worry about. I'm just an assistant looking for a job. I just want to help my nation win!"
"OK,OK...*grumble grumble*... how much do you want?"

The MacMurdo Half-Sun
Antarctistan unveils new uniforms, BoF begins in one day

Today in front of a massive crowd at South Pole Intercontinental Airport (ANSP) Antarctistan manager Jake Roberts walked out with his team, all of them dressed in black suits (later found to be zip up suits). After giving a short speech about what to realistically expect from the team in the following months. After a 10 minutes at basically repeating that the people of Antarctistan should expect to see many marks in the loss column. However he did promise to unveil the teams new look. And he did, as the Antarctistani team made it onto the X A-Stan charter plane bound for Koltelcia, Somewhereistonia they ripped off their suits and unveiled their new kits.

Image

However, no official word has been made on the away kits rumor has it that they will look something like this:

Image

Both kits were designed by Tenderville4Sports, a reputable kit maker with contracts all around the world.

Now on to talk about tomorrows game against Pljevla. As both teams have not played an international in their history's it will be a land mark day, one that the organizations will remember for some time to come. However Antarctistani mid-fielder Xander is expected to have an impact on the game. What destiny of these teams have for them is unknown as the XXXV Baptisim of Fire is getting started.

Be cautioned as the priest has ordered up one hot batch of Holy Water, this baptism is about to get HOT!

Football Association of Jesselton
Baptism of Fire Squad Announcement

Jesselton National Coach Roslan Mokhtar has shortlisted 40 players in preparation for the XXXV Baptism of Fire in Somewhereistonia/Kura-Pelland. The 40 shortlisted players are selected from the just concluded first ever Jesselton domestic league.

From this group of talented players, Roslan Mokhtar has selected the final 23 players. The list of 23 players are as follows:

Goalkeeper
1 - Sanizam Andu (GK, 20, Putatan)
A great goalkeeper. A great shot-stopper with great distribution, very good in one-on-one situation and very brave. A great all-rounder goalkeeper. The only problem for him is his aerial ability.

12 - Zainul Ariffin (GK, 20, Putatan)
23 - Ameer Waizuri (GK, 22, Sepanggar)

Defender
2 - Sharifuddin Matni (DR, 20, Papar)
The problem for this Jesselton side is the left back and right back. Sharifuddin Matni is just a mediocre player but he is the best right back in Jesselton. He is young and talented but not-yet top class.

3 - Hafiz Ibrahim (DL, 20, Mara)
Besides Sharifuddin Matni, Hafiz Ibrahim is also a liability in the starting eleven of Jeselton. He is just an average player but watch out for him in the next 2 or 3 years.

4 - Feezwan Freddy (DC, 20, Mara)
Feezwan Freddy is a Very strong tough tackling defender. The news around Jesselton claim that Hafiz Ibrahim was selected into the national side because of his relation and partnership with Feezwan Freddy. Feezwan Freddy is also awarded as the best defender in Jesselton Premier League. With his great aerial ability, Roslan Mokhtar will surely push him to the opposition's penalty box every time they have corner kick and free kick.

5 - Idzri Hamidi (DC, 20, Papar)
Another tough tackling defender for Jesselton. But in Idzri Hamidi, they have a fast centre back. The problem is he gets into yellow-card related trouble very often.

16 - Zamree Izwan (DR, 20, Sembulan)
18 - Nelson Ali (DL, 20, Putatan)
21 - Edzhar Jaafar (DC, 20, Mara)
22 - Aronick Edward (DC, 20, Inanam)

Midfielder
7 - Ismadi Haswan (AMR, 20, Kepayan)
One of the magnificent Kepayan trio. He can run throughout the field for 90 minutes and still can come back for the next game in top condition. The tireless midfielder will surely be a test for every left back in this BoF.

6 - Uzair Shafeeq (AML, 20, Kepayan)
One of the magnificent Kepayan trio. He has great vision and passing technique. His crossing is top class. He may take every corner kick in this BoF.

10 - Effmawie Ismail (DMC, 20, Likas)
His ability to score from distance is terrifying. The opposition can't afford to give him time and space. He is also a valuable asset in defending. Expect him to sit in front of the back 4. Watch out for his free-kick.

8 - Mohamed Eeickram (AMC, 20, Kepayan) (C)
One of the magnificent Kepayan trio. He will surely be the playmaker of the team. He is a football genius and everyone should expect him to the dictate the tempo of the game.

15 - Yazrin Yazman (AMLC, 23, Putatan)
14 - Syariezhan Samir (AMC, 20, Mara)
13 - Siraj Munir (AMR, 19, Mara)
17 - Ivan Jozef (AMC, 20, Putatan)

Forward
11 - Fahmi Hamizi (ST, 20, Kolombong)
The Jesselton Premier League top scorer is rated as the best striker in Jesselton. With the speed, pace and dribbling technique that he has, he is one of the player to watch in this BoF. He won the Best Striker and Top Goalscorer of the season award in the just concluded Jesselton Premier League.

9 - Zulfikri Shari (FC, 20, Kolombong)
His finishing can't be question. A top class player playing in a top class team. The only problem he has is his temperament.

19 - Eddy Akhmar (ST, 20, Bundusan)
20 - Nashroy Andryan (FC, 20, Mara)

Head Coach: Roslan Mokhtar
Asst Coach: Worran Kabul
GK Coach: Amburos Bibis
Fitness Coach: Jabbar Bacho
Physio: Aqashah Wafiuddin

Style: +1.0

In the event my opponent posts an RP first, they may:

One is the inclusion of Nocek Picek into the team instead of Nocek Mlicek, and the other is the inclusion of 18 year old extremely talented, skilled and fast striker Enicek Minecek instead of Icek Napadicek. Minecek will look to break the opposition defence and then supply a cross or pass.

New assistant Necek Tofcek introduced himself today: "I'm the new assistant here. Ricek-Licek Tontoncek knows that. I am here to help my nation. GO CATMEOWLAND."

Tontoncek also spoke: "Our team is well-prepared, morale is high, and we are confident that we can advance to the next stage."

The formation should be 4-3-3 with Driblicek playing as a second striker behind Minecek and Pucicek. Picek, Veznicek and Slobicek are in the midfield , Nepustcek , Mucocek, Zaustacek and Branicek are the defenders and Alnicek is the goalkeeper.

Catmeowland has a very talented and skilled team, and we hope for success.

Re: BoF35: official thread (roleplay, rosters, scores, queries)

It’s time.

Finally, President Daniel Lawson (T) has seen beyond his traditionalist ways and declared that West Pocono will finally attempt to participate in World Cup play. We have sat up here, in northwest Atlantian Oceania watching our fellow region members not just participate in, but dominate the World Cup. Even our neighbors, those drunks from Sorthern Northland have found a way to become a powerhouse in football. At long last, now West Pocono will participate.

Following a respectable showing given their ranking in AOCAF 25, the West Pocono Thunder felt that the time was now. There had been some rumors that they were thinking about this four years ago, but it is a reality now. The first step for the WPFA was to find a football coach, and for that they went on an international search. A handful of well known managers applied for the job, but the best candidate for the job was clearly Eddie Chapman, who has been the head coach of the Loudon Leopards of the Newmanistan Premier League for several years, and has led them to two of the last three championships of that league. Chapman was also admired because ot the fact that his Leopards team has six starters who are foreign to Newmanistan. Given that, we felt that he would be able to handle coming to another country and leading a group of athletes that are not from his homeland. Of course, there are several ties between Newmanistan and West Pocono that go back to the origins of our country and some of our players have already been noticed by lower caliber teams in the NPL.

Chapman begins now in Baptism of Fire 35 here in Kura-Pelland. The tournament is also being held in Somewhereistonia, but the Thunder at least for now, will be playing their games in what has been referred to as “Old Kura-Pelland”. It will not be the first Baptism of Fire that Chapman has participated in as he was a starting defender for the Newmanistan Rockets during Baptism of Fire 27. It should be absolutely great that the coach already knows what it takes to win a Baptism of Fire, and he can carry this over to the players. Chapman realizes this, “The Baptism of Fire trophy is quietly one of the most prestigious trophies that one can win. You only get one crack at this. If you don’t win the World Cup, you can come back. Same with the World Bowl or other competitions. But the Baptism of Fire is a one shot deal. You can’t come back for the next one. The list of winners is very prestigious, including recent winners Newmanistan, Dancougar, and Bears Armed. But there will also be other nations in each field that will be just as dangerous. Starblaydia and Valanora don’t have this trophy. Neither does Cafundeu or Qazox. The list of winners is special.” He said. Chapman’s Rockets team back in Baptism of Fire 27 cruised through the competition, but things will much different this time around with nearly twice as many teams and a different and untraditional format.

Here’s how it will work. The forty participating nations have been split into four regions of ten. Each team has randomly been assigned an opponent from within their region, and in our case that opponent will be The Fanboyists, a country who had an impressive debut showing in another brand of football, that being World Bowl 7. This begins a double elimination tournament within the region. Now, there are some other guidelines here that could see a team lose and actually advance to a winners bracket, but we won’t get into all of that right now. The moral of the story is to win, and keeping winning, and you’ll have one mulligan along the way. That is, until you win your region. The four nations which win their regions advance to the semfinals, and from there it’s win or go home, err make that win or go to the third place game.

This will not be an easy region for the Thunder as they are grouped with two historic nations making comebacks while being eligible for Baptism of Fire participation (The Weegies and New Montreal States) as well two nations which might be pretty good, one being our first opponent in The Fanboyists, and the other being Unreal Stereotypes. And who knows what the rest of the region might manage, and you can be assured that one of those teams has quite a bit of potential too. Chapman tells his players not to worry about all that now, and to take care of business against The Fanboyists. After all, just because they were good in the World Bowl doesn’t mean it will translate into the Baptism of Fire.

We’re grateful to be in this, but we are not just going to sit back here. The Thunder aim to make a positive statement and leave a positive impression on the world as they embark on this journey. Today the Baptism of Fire, tomorrow the World Cup. Hopefully in the long run we will have a better rate of qualifying success then that place where Eddie Chapman was born.
Baptism of Fire 35 Champions!

Micek Afulicek and Necek Tofcek were standing on the training pitch close to the Metall Staadion in Rig where Catmeowland was supposed to play their matchday one game against Ronaldinho2.

"Our players are training well. They are motivated. We might actually win a game or two.", said Tofcek.
"Yes,yes, yes, you said that before. You still haven't told me one thing, Tofcek."
"What,friend? "
"I'm not your friend. What are your motives?"
"I told you. I want to help."
"I'll be keeping an eye on you."
"OK, OK...concentrate on the match."
"*grumble grumble*...concentrate...he is going to tell me what to do...* grumble grumble*...concentrate..."
