It's when the standard deviation is above 30 that you start to get penalised. The formula is here ("The scorination" section)

If only Kelssek would consider dual hosting for the Winter Games. I'd be game for a co-host, though we'd prolly be voted down.

Use the signup creator, that makes things so much easier.

Just for future reference, the Winter signup creator is here. Note that the maximum allowable entries in Prescott is 200, not 303.

Just a question with Unified Teams.

My gf against is interested but does not have the access to log on herself.

You're going to have to ask Free Republics who made the creator. Otherwise, just do it manually and check your results in the spreadsheet a few pages back.

Yes that's fine, as long as you adhere to the rules of a maximum of 200 entries per delegation (so you would have a total of 200 entries to spread over KWP and TAC).

I already TGed Amuaplye about this but I'll say something similar here to (hopefully) prevent anybody else from having the same problem:

The problem seems to be caused by the program running out of the system32 folder under Windows. Surprisingly (to me anyway), Windows refuses to let it save files in that folder (a good security measure since modifying or deleting important files in that folder is a good way to cause Windows to stop working correctly or even at all).

I strongly recommend that anybody who downloads the Signup Creator program save it somewhere on their desktop or their My Documents folder which will make it easier to find completed signups and hopefully prevent such errors. You can also test to see if it will save by entering a 1 entry delegation and saving it. If that works, then a larger delegation will work too.

But I thought it saved the Signup Creator files in the folder Signup Creator was in. And if it lets you save Signup Creator itself in the system32 folder, why wouldn't it let you save its files there? Though I suppose given the automatic overwrite if there's a file of the same name, that's a good thing. Although it's unlikely there's an important Windows file called "Gregoryisgodistan", someone could potentially use that maliciously I suppose if it were allowed to save in system32.

Looking back, there was one medal which was supposed to be awarded but wasn't. This was because I hadn't noticed a tie for third place until now.

During last years Winter Games, whenever there was a tie, I decided at the time to award those with the same score with the same rank because the tie-breaking rules couldn't be performed with xkoranate (taking into account the scores from the highest judges).

Lauren Marchildon from Kelssek has been awarded the bronze medal in the Snowboarding Women's Halfpipe event, Day 7 of the XI Winter Olympics, so I've added an extra bronze medal in the final tally of the results thread for Kelssek.

Sorry if this has been a answered in the sign-up thread, but I can't find the link to the sign-up creator anywhere in it.

Since Free Republics has decided to submit a bid for the Games of the XII Olympiad, I believe it is now imperative that all members of the Olympic Council be fully informed as to the circumstances of his withdrawal from hosting the Games of the XI Olympiad (as Ilyseum). Previously, I and others were content to keep these details relatively private, since there was no purpose to be served by public discussion of the matter. However, since Free Republics is now seeking election to a position of public trust, his would-be electors should be made aware of how he abused their trust in this same position last year.

In the early hours of June 24, 2016 (all times UTC), the United Kingdom was tabulating the results of its referendum regarding membership in the European Union, and many people on the #nssport IRC channel, including Free Republics (SNT-FFR), were discussing that issue. During that discussion, Free Republics made some comments, not related to the Brexit referendum, for which one of the channel operators, Valanora (ESF), warned him informally:

02:38:59 <@ESF> SNT, you're getting perilously close to trolling and flame baiting

Half an hour later, Free Republics insinuated that Valanora wanted to censor his opinion on the referendum, even though the comments at issue were not about the referendum. Valanora responded by kicking him from the channel:

03:08:06 <+SNT-FFR> Apparently, supporting Leave in this channel is "flamebaiting and trolling" but fuck that idiocy :p

03:08:22 -!- SNT-FFR was kicked from #nssport by ESF [SNT-FFR]

Free Republics rejoined the channel a few seconds later, further accused Valanora of “abusing power” by “kicking people for expressing opinions”, and abused his own power as host of the Games of the XI Olympiad by threatening to cancel those Games if Valanora was not removed as an operator of #nssport:

03:08:29 -!- SNT-FFR [hostname omitted] has joined #nssport
03:08:32 -!- mode/#nssport [+v SNT-FFR] by ChanServ

03:08:48 <+SNT-FFR> ESF has been abusing power as OP and needs to be removed

03:08:57 < Farf> Meh, you've been a prick
03:08:57 <+SNT-FFR> Period

03:09:10 <+SNT-FFR> Either remove ESF as op permanently or I'm cancelling the Olympics
03:09:16 < Ethane|LeaveLead> wow.
03:09:25 < Damukuni> Holy shit SNT-FFR
03:09:29 < Ethane|LeaveLead> ESF is staying as mod
03:09:29 <@Yttribia> Bit too harsh there, pal
03:09:30 <+SNT-FFR> I mean it
03:09:31 < Ethane|LeaveLead> imo
03:09:40 < Farf> Showing your stripes
03:09:41 < Ethane|LeaveLead> That is kinda pathetic
03:10:14 < ShowerOfCoconuts> Jesus Christ
03:11:27 <@Yttribia> Now SNT-FFR
03:11:53 <@Yttribia> You have an opinion. Like many of us do. But that threat was unacceptable
03:12:06 <+SNT-FFR> Kicking people for expressing opinions is unacceptable

03:12:14 <+SNT-FFR> And I mean this
03:12:19 < BattleBots95X> I agree with Trib.
03:12:19 < Farf> Kicking you for your opinions might as well be

03:12:25 <+SNT-FFR> If ESF is not removed as OP within 24 hours, the Olympics are off
03:12:30 < Farf> "opinions"

03:13:00 -!- mode/#nssport [-v SNT-FFR] by ChanServ
03:13:00 <@Yttribia> See, are you really going to hurt the many of users who do not go on IRC because one IRC user kicked you?

03:13:14 < SNT-FFR> More abuse of power
03:13:26 < EFL|OlympicSignup> On top of what other abuse of power?
03:14:04 -!- Vettrera_ [hostname omitted] has joined #nssport
03:14:18 < Farf> SNT-FFR
03:14:25 < SNT-FFR> And I'm not going to put myself through all of that for a community that considers somebody who routinely abuses power an appropriate choice for OP
03:14:25 < Farf> I don't think anyone here will side with you

03:14:27 -!- Vettrera [hostname omitted] has quit [Ping timeout: 195 seconds]
03:14:28 < Vettrera_> what exactly is going on
03:14:29 < Farf> At all
03:14:33 < Farf> Maybe Frenline?
03:14:36 -!- Vettrera_ is now known as Vettrera
03:14:38 < SNT-FFR> Well then, find a different Olympic host
03:14:44 < Vettrera> is this really SNT-FFR
03:14:53 < Ethane|LeaveLead> yes, unfortunately
03:15:14 < Vettrera> I feel like everyone's just had a rough day
03:15:20 < BattleBots95X> I missed whatever the kick was about. But if it involved regarding one's RL political opinions as how everyone in the world should live by, then it's probably best for said opinion to go elsewhere.
03:15:54 -!- BattleBots95X is now known as Nation95X
03:16:04 <@ESF> Your continual trolling does not adequately represent what a leader of the community should be about, there have been a multitude of times when I or others have asked you to knock it off. Insulting an OP was the straw that broke the camel's back.
03:16:26 < SNT-FFR> I'm done with you and your intolerance

03:16:59 * Nation95X opens the door.
03:17:04 < SNT-FFR> You have no problem pushing your point of view on here
03:17:17 < llama> wait how many times did SNT-FFR get kicked?
03:17:20 < SNT-FFR> yet if somebody says something you don't like, you start abusing your power as OP
03:17:22 < Ethane|LeaveLead> 1
03:17:22 < EFL|OlympicSignup> ESF: What was the insult?
03:17:23 <@ESF> once
03:17:24 < ShowerOfCoconuts> Once
03:17:39 < ShowerOfCoconuts> Well at least SNT-FFR didn't Frenline and say Fuck ESF or try to do bad things on her

03:20:34 <@ESF> SNT called me an idiot for telling him that he was getting dangerously close for flamebaiting

03:22:09 < EFL|OlympicSignup> ESF: What was the flamebait?
03:22:10 < Damukuni> ESF - you have MUCH more tolerance than most anyone I've seen on any IRC network
03:22:19 -!- SNT-FFR [hostname omitted] has left #nssport []

Despite his threat on IRC that “If ESF is not removed as OP within 24 hours, the Olympics are off”, he posted in the signup thread for the Games of the XI Olympiad less than two minutes after he left #nssport:

Ilyseum wrote:I have decided to withdraw as Olympic host for personal reasons.

Subsequently, I was elected by the Executive Committee to replace Ilyseum as host under §2.3.4 of the Olympic Charter.

I leave it to the members of the Olympic Council to judge, in light of these events, whether Free Republics would be a suitable host for the Games of the XII Olympiad.

First, I'll address the 6,000 pound elephant in the room, and ask what you've learned from the incident last time you were elected host. Can we trust that that incident was made in the heat of passion on a night when many people were emotional about RL events, and that you won't let it happen again?

Second, given the following matters caused controversy last Summer Olympics, I'll ask about them to make sure people are aware of it up front if there are any issues. Specifically:

1) Will there be any sort of qualification as there was last time?
2) Will the Gregoryisgodistani (and other) athletes be allowed to compete under their actual names, including titles, if they are part of the name, and any unusual capitalization that exists, whether that is the all-caps names of Gregoryisgodistani commoners or something more normal like McDonald or van der Meer?
3) Will there be any limits on roster sizes for team sports?

Finally, a couple questions specific to your bid:

1) Why use the Casaran for the group stage of team events, rather than the conventional format, and how long will the group stages last?
2) Will the rule used RL international competitions (but not any domestic leagues other than a couple leagues in the low minors) be used in the baseball and softball competitions? If so, am I correct in my recollection that the scorinator can handle a different probability of runs scored in extra innings versus regulation? And if you're using it, would it be the standard international format used in most international competitions (starts in the first extra inning, so 10th for baseball and 8th for softball) or the World Baseball Classic format (starts in the second extra inning, so 11th for baseball and 9th for softball)?

Edit since CH and I cross-posted and I don't want to double-post: Could CH or someone else possibly provide some background information on what posts SNT-FFR made that led up to these events, if the logs are available? I think that would be helpful for full context, as all I've ever seen is what CH posted, and others have shown me before. Specifcally, what is the post that ESF/Valanora is referring to? Thanks. SNT-FFR indicated to me privately on multiple occasions that his posts were about Brexit, so if they weren't, I'd like to know that.

The real question we all need to ask ourselves is how we could consider voting against esports in the Olympics.

SNT-FFR indicated to me privately on multiple occasions that his posts were about Brexit, so if they weren't, I'd like to know that.

From what I recall, it was related to Brexit (I was celebrating the result or, I guess you could say, "gloating" about it). Granted, I only have a vague memory of what I said that night (but I do remember people panicking like the world was ending because Britain voted for its freedom from a discredited bureaucracy that nobody ever voted for and I was probably extremely insensitive about it). I urge CH to post whatever I actually said that justified my being kicked from IRC, if it truly wasn't related to Brexit. That said, I have no problem with this stuff being posted publicly and would prefer that over it being spread around in secret. Given that the Olympic Council president has openly all but stated his position on my host bid, I do request that a neutral party handle the task of counting the votes.

Regardless of what happens this year, I will not withdraw as host due to any off-site arguments. As I've said many times, I regretted my heat of the moment decision to withdraw as Olympic host within 24 hours.

Regarding the first set of questions (answered ICly):

1) No. ROFoSOC will just expand the number of rounds at the actual Olympics as needed to accommodate additional entries.
2) No. We will refer to athletes, on official documents, by their full names as provided to us by their delegations. Many Republican athletes will be participating under their full military titles and we would regard the deliberate omission of those titles on official documents as disrespectful to them, to us and to our heroic military that often lays down their lives to keep us free.
3) No. We see no reason why we should arbitrarily limit the number of athletes that can participate on a team. Doing so puts many nations, such as our own, that could field deep teams at an unfair disadvantage.

In short, there will be no surprise last minute decisions about the running of the Olympics that aren't listed in my host bid, other than the possible addition of more demonstration event if there is sufficient interest (or if somebody makes a suggestion for a demonstration event that I like or if I come up with an idea for another demonstration event).

Moving on to the harder questions:

1) Casaran addresses certain problems that have historically plagued the Olympics such as imbalanced groups and large fields for the team sports events, without requiring the use of a qualifying round. Previously, this was not viable but the Casaran Scheduler program reads in tournament results, automatically calculates all of the tiebreakers (the BoF 52 ones, not the simplified ones that I've used in the past) and prints out a table plus a schedule for the following matchday (with rematches starred so that I can make the appropriate adjustments) and a list of each team's opponents so far. The length of the casaran stage will be 2 + the log base 2 of the number of teams. For fields of 32-64 teams, that is an 8 day casaran stage. All teams either ahead of the xth place team (x equaling either 8, 16, 32, 64 or whatever power of 2 is appropriate for the number of teams) will advance to the Round of X. All teams tied with the xth place team will be guaranteed at least a spot in a play-in round.
2) I had not thought about that but it is true that Baseinator can handle the international extra innings rule so I will be utilizing it. Baseinator is currently set up to utilize the different run probability for extra innings from the first extra inning onward so that is what I will do (though I could likely easily change the code to support the rule taking effect in the 2nd extra inning or even to support the Japanese rules of declaring a game a tie after 12 or 15 innings). I'm personally not a fan of that rule (I don't think many baseball fans are, tbh), but given that it was used at the last Olympics, I'm willing to use it here for the sake of realism.
