An IM exchange between captain Hannah Blaze and Kelsey Martin. (Teen talk; poor grammar intentional)

Kelz2hot4u>: Did you see this nasty looking uniform for Jah Senseless?
CaptHannah42>: Yeah sad. Very very sad.
Kelz2hot4u>: So where is our schedule anyway all they have is the first game listed.
CaptHannah42>: Kelsey I told you its da Swiss system. We don't know yet.
Kelz2hot4u>: Wtf is da Swiss system anyway. Like I'm supposed 2 know something like that.
CaptHannah42>: I gave you all a paper to read. We like play Stenchland and then based on what happens our next game is decided.
CaptHannah42>: Stachland, sorry. Never heard of it.
Kelz2hot4u>: So if we win, we play someone who lost?
CaptHannah42>: No actually if you win you play someone else who won. If somehow we were to actually lose then we play someone who lost.
Kelz2hot4u>: WTF? How is that fair?
CaptHannah42>: I guess we're just not used to it but like it all works out in the end and stuff.
Kelz2hot4u>: Well whatever.
CaptHannah42>: So you see the Stenchland people?
CaptHannah42>: Fuck! Stachland! I gotta remember to call them da right thing when da game starts!
Kelz2hot4u>: lol
Kelz2hot4u>: A lotta college age guyz. I bet they're hot.
CaptHannah42>: It's a good test of our ability to avoid the distraction of playing against hot muscular men and focusing on soccer.
Kelz2hot4u>: Cheerleading is a lot less stressful.
CaptHannah42>: Yeah well like these guys prolly think they are just so cool cuz they go to colleges and prolly think we are gonna be easy to beat.
Kelz2hot4u>: So how important is it to do good in da Baptism of Fire?
CaptHannah42>: Well u wanna do good. But u don't have to. Cassadaigua was 4th in theirs and look at them now. I am really confused about something though.
Kelz2hot4u>: What?
CaptHannah42>: According to Legalese, matchday one will be scorinated (thats a fancy way of saying "gametime") on Tuesday, April 4. However, Tuesday is April 5th.
Kelz2hot4u>: Uh oh! You'd think a nation named Legalese would be aware of the importance making sure the fine print is accurate.
CaptHannah42>: What about fans that may have bought tickets thinking the games were on the 4th. They are probably gonna sue.
Kelz2hot4u>: LOL! Well it does say Tuesday so they probably can still get off on a technicality.
CaptHannah42>: Guess it shows that even the best lawyer still needs a cheerleader on the side.

In Green Jello Salad, association football is seen as a women's game and with one limited exception has been strictly amateur. Top footballers strive for selection to one of the five "provincial" select teams for the annual National Cup each fall. Select team members do receive a stipend for the six weeks involved. With some of these players now forming a national team--the Salad Shooters--for international cups open professionalism may be just around the corner.

The best of the Salad Shooters are sweeper Marshmallow Benson, attacking midfielder Gelatin Hunter, and wingback Pineapple Perry. Feel free to use given names with last names, nicknames with last names, or even nicknames alone.

RP permissions: Don't severely injure my players. Otherwise, have fun.

"Are we ready for this?"
"Sure, why not? After Chunnan and Burchadinger, life on the road's getting easier."
"A little extra pocket money's nice, too."
"It is!"
"And there's all these countries out there that pay people to play."
"That pay women to play."
"Some make a really nice living."
"Yeah, but you put off motherhood and stuff."
"Our guys would have a hard time with that."
"Why? They watch pro netball . . ."
"No, they watch athletic chicks in short skirts. Like cheerleaders with a bigger skill set."
"You saying they look better than us?"
"Just a matter of display. And netball tickets aren't very expensive. Pro soccer with real pros gets pricey."
"So we need to go kick some tail."
"We planned to anyway, I thought."
"I wonder if there will be any scouts out there."
"Hoping to be discovered, Cream Cheese?"
"Speaking of cheese, who thought up the nicknames, anyway?"
"Well, they are catchy."
"Catchy like a disease catchy?"
"I think they're cute."
"Think like a promoter. They get us to stand out from the crowd."

Two quick notes before the scores:
1) OOC Discussion (if some ends up occurring) is best left for The World Cup Discussion Thread.
2) Style modifiers need not be included, as they will not be used for this competition. The scorinator in question (NSFS v.2.0.7) has issues with styles that make them a very bad idea for this competition, and my general feeling on the issue is that you're all the equivalent to American Samoa on the international football scene - just because you play one style doesn't mean your score lines will reflect it.

The good news for Cabric at their Baptism of Fire opener at Winoke Stadium, Noino, Legalese was that Eialio stopped 6 shots on net and did not allow a goal. The bad news was Cabric couldn't get the ball past Traila's keeper either in a 0-0 draw, one of 4 such games today. The draw means Cabric will play another teams that had a draw today, but the Legalese Department of Statistical Analyses have not determined yet who Caric will face until early in the morning. While not the best start, at the Baptism of Fire, any result that is not a loss is a good result.

Breaking news: Raboso will be Cabric's opponent tommorrow.

AMEGIA, CABRIC:

Emperor Dacius Cabric I kneaded his head in his hand, again, as he awaited his Baean counter-part Aiodia. He didn't mind that the Baeans offically ruled the country within the Baean continent, but that he was basically the Cabrican ambassador to the world-at-large and in charge of the human population as well; without any funding from the Baeans, it made him a bit surly at the co-leadership of the nation.

"Sir, Madam Aiodia is here to see you,' Dacius' newest aide, John Something-or-another, chimed in via the intercom.

"Let her in John, and ensure the security, as well." Daicus replied, standing out of his throne and awaiting his boss, for lack of a better term, to make her usual grand entrance.

The doors swung open, and a sea-foam green 3D snowflake, for lack of a better description entered into the room, along with her translator, his Uncle, Marius Cabric; who created the technology needed to translate the vibrations of the Baeans into understandable human languages. But as usual, the Baean ruler, or leader requested a translator, even though the country was wired to the translator, except in Dacius' throne room and Aiodia's leading chamber. Aiodi was a strange one, eschewing techonolgy as much as she could, hence the need for his Uncle, who also managed to learn the complicated Baean language.

"Madam Aiodia, Uncle Marius, it is a blessing and privledge to see you at this time. Please have a seat, if you so wish." Dacius humbly requested. His uncle sat down on a couch near Aiodia, who like most Baeans chose to remain floating or hovering where she was.

"Iu eai uaeaa o iaae i oooa iauue o aeuaiooee." Aiodia said, her vibrations sounding like someone using a Theremin. <Greetings Human Emperor. I wish to discuss something of importance>. (ooc the rest of Aiodia's speech ill be translated using the <>.)

"Of Course, Madam Aiodia. I request that you join me in partaking of beverages." Dacius replied, following the semi-strict protocol, that Aiodia seemed to respond best to.

<Why are some humans playing soccer with my people? I thought we agreed that you humans would accompany us only to translate.> Aiodia asked.

"Madam Aiodia, only 8 Baeans were willing and free of obilgations to go to Legalese for the event. Seeing as a mininum of 11 players are required by the laws of the sport to participate, we had to include humans on the team or not be allowed to compete." Dacius replied, hopefully sincere enough that Aiodia wouldn't pepper him with more silly questions.

<Our soccer uses 8 players. Why does not the rest of the world conform to our ways, instead of us conforming to them?> Aiodia asked.

"Madam Aiodia, as I said before, the rules for international soccer require 11 players. As for why the rest of the world does not play with 8 players, I do not know." Dacius replied, with the sinking feeling this was going to be one of those days in which he had to attempt to explain common human things to Aiodia, who, for some reason he didn't understand; either deliberately misunderstood or purposefully was attempting to get Dacius to violate the contract between the Baeans and the humans.

Starorentia Sets Bar High in First Baptism of Fire Match; Fabregassi Steals Show With Hat-Trick

Today in the 42nd Baptism of Fire, the World Cup tournament for nations who have never been involved in an actual World Cup, Starorentia found themselves paired against a squad hailing from Dandakia. Throughout the course of the 90 minute match, it was painfully clear that Starorentia had the stronger and more committed squad as the game ended 3-0 in their favor. This one sided affair was dominated by a single player. Francesc Fabregassi.

Francesc Fabregassi has been lighting up FC Arsenal for several years now, with his dynamic, beautiful, and creative playing style. The 17 year old forward has proved his worth in the King's League time after time after time. Now, in todays game, he brought his skill to the international stage at Capital Mall in Legalese City.

Fabregassi played like we've never seen him play before, passing, shooting, and doing all manner of beautiful and intricate ball maneuvers. And it all payed off as he looked up at the scoreboard after 90 minutes of play to see the board say this: Erathore 3 - 0 Dandakia (Fabregassi '21, '53, '76) Yes that's right, the youngster picked up a hat trick as he and the rest of the Starorentia squad systematically picked the Dandakian's to pieces. The game started off well enough for the Dandakian's, with their offense being able to string together several passing/shooting combos before Starorentia took charge of the game. Several good defensive stops by Severiano led to some good attempts on goal by the attacking trio of Gianmarco, Guerra, and Fabregassi. Unfortunately, none of them went in. Until the 21st minute that is.

From a Dandakian dispoession by Sergio, the ball found its way from Sergio to Severiano, then to Renato, then to Gianmarco, then to Guerra in the left gully of the field. Guerra preformed an immaculate double-touch exit to get by a defender, then approached on a sort of banana run at goal, with him turning towards the goal at the to left corner of the 6-yard box. Just as the keeper was coming out to greet him, Guerra rolled the ball to Fabregassi on his right, and Fabregassi smashed it into the unprotected net for the first goal of the night. Starorentia fans at the game and at home went bat crazy at this, with many over reacting and interpreting the goal to mean that Staror would go on to win the World Cup. Whilst very unlikely, that would be very enjoyable.

Anyhow, in the 53rd minute of play, Fabregassi received the ball from Gianmarco around 25 yards away from the goal and a few yards to the left of the center of the goal. Pulling one of his trademark Fabregassi runs at goal, the FC Arsenal striker preformed a neat double crossover to easily pass by a defender, then he proceeded to sprint towards goal. As the keeper came out to dive and prevent a shot on goal, Fabregassi used a nice little fake shot to send the keeper to the floor before immaculately executing a chip shot to slot the ball into the upper right corner of the net. Many bottles of beer were emptied due to this beautiful goal.

In the 76th minute, Fabregassi scored yet again, to complete his hat trick and to wrap up the game in Starorentia's favor. There was nothing special about this goal, just a classic one from the 18 yard line.

Well there are many more details but seeing as how I, the reporter, has been 'stuck' watching this game multiple times to correctly cover it, I may just go to the local pub where I can get some…uh…citizens perspectives on the match. Yeah that sounds good. To recap: Starorentia won, Fabregassi had a hat trick, we will win the Baptism of Fire, we will definitely win the World Cup, and somehow we will win the Cup of Harmony. Still figuring that last one out but we think we can come up with a way to make it work. Well that's all. To the pub!

Baptism of Fire Opener Doesn't Live Up to Expectations
by Lowell Brooks

It's not necessarily something that we want to dwell on for too long, so I will try to be as brief as possible in describing the Stachland national soccer team's three-goal loss to Cheergirls in its international opener. The game was held at Christie Field in Francopolis, Legalese, in front of just over eight thousand spectators. In this reporter's opinion, the team was unbalanced, unfocused, and, frankly, was not prepared to play at an international level.

When asked about the loss, the team's most veteran player, midfielder Everett Lang, explained: "None of us have competed on the international stage before. Yes, we perform well with our individual teams back home, but it's all fair game when you're playing teams from other countries." Seeming in good spirits despite the loss, Lang continued: "If I could, I'd just like the Cheergirls team's next opponents—Pohjoisland—and future opponents to know that they are not to be underestimated. I'm not sure about high school cheerleaders in your nations, but I know there are very few in Stachland who can compete on the sort of level that the Cheergirls team was at today."

Stachland went down early, with the Cheergirls' co-captain Brittany Hazlett scoring in the seventh minute of a match. It would be a deficit that would not be made up, and the Cheergirls team would go on to add two more goals in the second half for a three to zero shutout.

"It wasn't my best day," goalkeeper Navering Pounchtal explained. "We've all had better days. Today our opponents were on and we weren't."

Young midfielder Jerce Wolszan, who would go on to play for more than fifty minutes, was not quite as disappointed by the loss. "Of course we wanted to win, but it's just great to be out here in another nation, another region. We all watched our guys compete at the Water World Championships, and it's awesome to get to come out here and do the same thing." Wolszan, who is, at seventeen years old, the youngest member of the Stachland national team, explained that it was refreshing to meet other players his age, after months of training with collegiate and professional athletes. "If any of the girls from Cheergirls wanted to go out some time, I don't have any, you know, commitments at home," he added somewhat awkwardly.

Stachland's next match will be against the team from Astograth, which fell to North Orus one goal to none. Elsewhere in the Baptism of Fire, Stachland's regional neighbors Ketharnia won their debut match, defeating Sensimillistan three goals to none. Ketharnia will play Leyte Islands next.

No good

Green Hexagon finished their first game against Whiteinch loosing 2-0. The score line does not reflect the game at all however as Whiteinch dominate possesion, with a style of play that just outclassed the GH. GH manager, Peter O'Neil claimed in the press conference after the game that, "things were to improve and improve greatly." Johno also came out after the game after a sub standard performance from him and just simply said, "sorry, I wern't up to it." Although we were outclassed, we now have to look forward to the next game as O'Neil could turn the team around, we play McKleigh in our next game.

An IM exchange between captain Hannah Blaze and Jennifer Kennedy. (Teen talk; poor grammar intentional)

JenFKbabii>: Hey Blaze can I ask u a question?
CaptHannah42>: Of course!
JenFKbabii>: I was watchin the interviews with the Stachland players and that one guy there Wolszan he’s soo hottt and I want to take him up on his offer but I don’t know how to get in touch with him.
CaptHannah42>: Jenn I need you to be focused on our next game. Like the way we were against Stachland. I’m sure you can find out the details online but wait til later, please.
JenFKbabii>: yeah yeah I know. It was so funny to see how they reacted to our first goal. Lol
CaptHannah42>: The plan worked perfectly. But eventually teams are going to be prepared for it. Like they kinda were later.
JenFKbabii>: Lol yeah I know maybe we shoulda saved it for another time.
CaptHannah42>: Yeah I thought about that but we can always try it again. After all teams are not used to, on corners, three players getting together, with two acting as a base on each side and lifting the smaller girl up over their heads; and then defending the delivery from the corner where the aerial girl can place a header into a net and there is nothing they can do about it.
JenFKbabii>: Yea that was awesome then like the refs were all like: should we allow this? Lmao!!!
CaptHannah42>: Yeah that was priceless but they knew it was within the rules so they had to allow it. But teams will be ready to defend it so it’s a good thing we have other cheerleading-themed trick plays for later!
JenFKbabii>: Hell yeah!!!
JenFKbabii>: Actually I see our next opponent is some place called Pohjoisland but I can’t find their roster. Can u send it to me?
CaptHannah42>: I would if I could but they so far have not wished to reveal their players to the world.
JenFKbabii>: Well thats lame. I bet they are ugly too.
CaptHannah42>: That’s probably why they don’t want to let the world know.
JenFKbabii>: Beside us who’s ur favorite team in this?
CaptHannah42>: I don’t really have one but there are some weird names. Coffee Cakes? Green Jello Salad? I’m getting hungry.
JenFKbabii>: There’s something about Green Jello Salad. They have cool nicknames. We need cool nicknames too.
CaptHannah42>: All we need to do is win.
JenFKbabii>: All I do is win! All I do is win! And I just found Wolszan’s e-mail address.
CaptHannah42>: Behave yourself, now.

LATE GOAL BY RIANTO SINKS POLAR ISLANDSTATES

In their first ever match on the official international scene, Polar Islandstates were disappointed today to take away nothing from a game they deserved at least a point from. Andreass defender Ali Rianto rose highest from a late corner to grab the goal that consigns the Terns to the bottom of the pile following this first round of BoF matches.

The first half was an even contest, with neither side trying to give too much away, wary of defeat. Both sides created openings that were soon slammed shut by the conservative defences, and the teams went in at half time with the score 0-0.

After the interval, Sol Kirkkegaard appeared to want his team to attack more, and with Demarchelier coming on for Bielsen, a much more dynamic midfield soon started to swing the game in the Federation's favour. Golubev excelled in the holding role, as van Jendrisen, Hansen, and Demarchelier all played in a much more advanced position, looking for the opening. Timo Skye was unlucky not to score on several occasions, not least of all when he hit the bar from a 40-yard piledriver, the ball cannoning off the bar with such force that it evaded the penalty area immediately and came back to the advancing Skye, whose layoff to the lurking figure of Ackermann-Finn was intercepted, and the initiative lost.

Andreass forged chances of their own however, and after leaving Berg stood still, Solossa could only hitthe side netting from a great position, with Karlsson doing a great job of putting off the diminutive striker. Terns heads were starting to wander though, and a lapse in concentration allowed Andreass to break, with Sutopo winning the corner that the giant Rianto would come up for, scoring the goal that broke Federation hearts. The last frantic minutes saw a bombardment of the Andreass goal from all parties, but the defence stayed solid and it is the Andreass team who will progress to the next round with the heads held high.

Sol Kirkkegaard remained philosophical in defeat, stating that 'changes may have to be made' in the next match to see his side perform at the level he knows they can perform at, for this certainly wasn't a Polar Islandstates team in full force.

The Terns' next match will be against Dandakia, whom scouts saw getting soundly beaten by former-opponents Starorentia, with an excellent hat trick from Fabregassi. Knowing a little bit about how Starorentia play, and how their decisive plays tore Dandakia apart, this publication is speculatively suggesting that we may see a younger, more inexperienced front line against the Dandakians, and young starlet Alexsandr van Sorensen may play a vital role yet.

What happens with the lineup however, we here at the FPIBC wish the Terns the very best of luck in their preparations, as they prepare to climb back up the ladder of the swiss-style table. There are five matches to go, but the Terns have an uphill struggle on their hands to save face on the international scene.

THE 42ND BAPTISM OF FIRE: THE KERNANSQUILLEC FOOTBALL TEAM

For this 42nd Baptism of Fire tournament Kernansquillec will be fielding a full squad of players in an attempt to win the competition. With a bit of luck Lady Luck will be our 13th player, the 12th will hopefully be our fantastic Green & White supporters. But in the end it will be down to the 11 men on the pitch, the 12 substitutes, the manager and the rest of the team's staff to give 150% in order to beat the rival teams in this competition.

This Baptism of Fire is following a qualifing system that we do not complety understand and that we have never heard of here in the Free Land of Kernansquillec, but it is simple: if you win you qualify, if you win you are the champion.

On behalf of the Kernansquillecan Football Association also known as KERFA I give my hole support to the Kernansquillecan XI, and well as wishing luck to all the other teams involved in the Baptism of Fire as well as giving our best wishes to hosts Erathore and Legalese.

Now let's shut up and watch some football!

THE DAILY KERNANSQUILLECAN
Proud sponsor of the Kernansquillecan Football Team: Win it for us lads!

Poor start to game costs the Kers
Well the Baptism of Fire is finaly here folks. Each team only gets one shot at it and it give Kernansquillec a great chance to prepare for the upcoming World Cup. The team has been annonced by Dean Harold and it was all looking good for the Green & Whites opening game against Leyte Islands.

But the Kernansquillecan players must have forgotton to put there alarm clocks on as within 8 minutes they were one nil down thanks to a headed goal by 28 year old Mark Caligdong who had no hesitation in knocking Jose Marcelino Carpio's corner past Stuart Henderson. Bad become worse on the 16th minute when Lou Salvador found himself one on one with Stuart Henderson and the Kers' shot stopper couldn't do anything to save a brilliantly placed shot. 2-0 after quarter an hour and it was looking more like a question of by how many goals they would win by than who would win.

Dean Harold after talking to U21 manager Chappell Robert made a shock decision. Two subs after only 23 minutes of game: stiker Peter Rolland and midfielder Jaques Le Grand made way for two international debuts with 20 year old Xarles Cressac coming on in midfielder and Kimmo Suutari-Jääskö going up front with U21 partner Kai Holmes. The substitution making the young star the youngest ever player to play for Kernansquillec at the age of only 15!

These substitutions but some dignity back into the game but despite 6 shots on target during the rest of the first half Ernesto Cabrera, the Leyte Islands goalkeeper, was on fire pulling of some spectacular saves.

HALF TIME: LEYTE ISLANDS 2 - 0 KERNANSQUILLEC (CALIGDONG 8' SALVADOR 16')

It must have been one hell of a team talk by Mr Harold as within 43 seconds of the second half Kai Holmes had the ball in the back of the net after beating two defenders. Kers fans were hoping for a neat comeback and all 8,123 of them were shoating themselves hoarse. Local press suggest that Gavelton pharmacies had a surge of 684% in throat medecins in the 3 hours following the Kernansquillec game.
But despite good attacking play no breakthought came and the Green and Whites almost took a third if Gary Connor hadn't tackled Mariano Felomino just as he went to shoot. Unfortuantly Felomino had to be subed as he was streched off the pitch. Leyte Islands' "Big Man" came on for him.
Time was running out for the Kers and despite Adam Liliac hitting the cross bar there was just no way past the Islanders' solid defence.

Polar Islandstates 0-1 Andreass : First senior international victory too cautious

Ali Rianto scored the only goal of the game from a header to secure a vital, though drab, first senior international victory for Andreass.

Manager Ilham Kuncoro fielded the expected starting XI, with many of U-21 graduates in the starting lineup from the side that brought Andreass to the quarter finals of 17th Di Bradini Cup, including wonderkid Erwin Sutopo and the Rettel brothers and bolstered a 4-3-3 formation with Valentinov as a holding midfielder but surprisingly no false nine.

Polar Islandstates' lineup also brought no surprise, with a 4-3-1-2 formation and the highly praised Timo Skye upfront. Vladimir Gobulev, who eventually becomes the man of the match, played as a holding midfielder.

First half, full of drab

Although many pundits have expected Andreass to attack right from the first minute, their first half looked very cautious, as if they were afraid to advance. But actually, it was the pressure in the midfield that limits openings. Eka was tightly marked by Hansen, and was prevented to make chances and provide a link between the midfield and the forwards. Hamka was also pressured by Bielsen and was forced to pull back. But the Federation's creative output themselves, van Jendrisen, was also tightly marked by Valentinov.

This made both of the teams relied on long balls. In fact, on some occasions the most forward midfield player of the Federation was Gobulev, who was free. However, Ilham reacted by bringing Valentin Rettel to the center. As the result, the right flank was mostly empty as Erwin on the right drifted in to the center and Pekarik the left back was forced to marked him.

There were very few openings in the first half, with none of them creating even a good chance. This is also because the emptiness of the flank and pressure in the center of the field, both contributing in making a deadlock.

Demarchelier brought more pressure to the midfield

In the second half, Polar Islandstates' manager Sol Kirkkegaard replaced Bielsen with Demarchelier, who is more of a dynamic player. He was not afraid to add more pressure to the midfield, and Hamka was forced even more to pull back. Eka was also forced to pull back, because he lost a link-up as Hamka was badly pressured. This situation allowed Hansen to move forward, and the Federation was able to create chances more, particularly the stunning 40-meters drive by Skye, which hit the bar.

However many of the passes were delivered by Gobulev, normally a holding midfielder but forced to deliver passes because he's free from any marking. He did a good job holding, however, as more often than not he and Hansen double teamed on Eka. Andreass' midfield was dead, but they were still able to create chances.

After the second half. Notice how Andreass' midfielders pull back.

Valentin Rettel as a playmaker?

With Andreass' midfield badly pressured, they looked for long ball chances. Valentin proved to be instrumental, as in the second half he was free to move forward and provide creativity - the only one they had in this match - with his accurate crosses. He also became an extra attacker, and they successfully overloaded the Federation's defense.

His crosses proved to be pretty crucial, as Solossa's chance - which hit the side netting - was inspired by Valentin's wing-switching cross, before he dribbled past Berg and shot the ball, although he was put off by Karlsson. But in the 87th minute, his early cross to Erwin created a chance that in the end win them the match. Erwin's shot was blocked, but in fact the corner by Eka led to the only goal, from Rianto's head.

Conclusion

The first senior international victory for Andreass proved to be a calm, cautious one. Neither side were able to create good chances in the first half, however the pace increased in the second half as chances were made. The disappointment here is that both sides had only a few natural attacking threats on the pitch, with only Erwin, Solossa and Skye proved to be dangerous forwards.

Grad-uation with Honours!
Impaler Kevin on the Double as Super Inch Kick Off BoF With Win
Green Hexagon 0-2 Whiteinch

Kevin Gradwell further cemented his name in Inchite footballing history with a sublime first-half double to give Whiteinch victory in their first ever official match against Green Hexagon. Nick Gordon's gamble in omitting Karl Banton seems to have paid dividends as young Luke Boon helped the midfield dominate the match.

Whiteinch dominated straight from the word go - with the Brightwood midfield trio of McMillan, Henderson and Reilly all testing Tommy Bosintch within the opening five minutes. Crisp passing and speed of movement were all hallmarks of the Inchite play from front to back and it evidently didn't take long for the boys to both find their rhythm and put their stamp on the game much to the delight of the four-thousand strong travelling support inside Palisade Park.

Wayne Jones almost gave Whiteinch a precious lead inside of 12 minutes. The Leivern Town man's blistering effort from inside the area headed goalwards, but a superb goalline header from Green Hexagon captain Part McGrath cleared it much to the dismay of the aging striker. McGrath could do nothing about the Whiteinch breakthrough when it came seven minutes later though. A beautiful passing move found Luke Boon almost 25 yards out and being closed down on two sides. Rivenmore County's young mastermind dinked a beautifully-weighted pass over the defence and into the path of the onrushing Gradwell. The Ashwick United striker made no hesitation as he lashed the ball home on the volley.

A good spell of dominance that saw centre-half Joe Harvey crash a header off the crossbar was well underway. And if the Whiteinch support were in Bliss for the match, they were in sheer delirium as the Inchite side doubled their lead on the half hour mark. Another Boon pass found Kevin Gradwell marked well by deLord. Gradwell knocked it through the legs of the centre-half and took off, rounding the keeper before slipping a shot home that the sliding George Tishburn failed to stop.

The first-half ended with Whiteinch essentially toying with Green Hexagon, and the second half began in much a similar vein. Any Green Hexagon attacks were expertly repelled by the relatively youthful duo of Harvey and Curtis Mason in the heart of defence. Once or twice they broke past the lines but failed to beat the superb young talent of Daniel Fitzpatrick in goal - a fact well learnt by the front two of Gray Watershed and Diego Hairwell.

Nick Gordon freshened up his side on 65 minutes with a double substitution. The venerable old men of the starting eleven Graham Henderson and Wayne Jones made way for the youthful duo of Mark Thorn and Neil Gow. Indeed both men had good chances to extend Whiteinch's lead - Thorn crashing an effort over after 76 minutes and Gow forcing Bosintch into a good stop not two minutes later.

As the ref called time on a generally one-sided encounter the boys in their away kit of black and red celebrated a win that will take them to sixth in the initial BoF standings. Whiteinch can now look forward to a game against St Samuel in Erathore.

Khabarovsk Krai off to a Winning Start

Khabarovsk Krai were able to secure their first win in the Baptism of Fire Cup 1-0 against German zerabithea thanks to a 68th minute Eppo Snepvangers goal which continued a good run of form that began in pre-tournament friendlies.

At the City Stadium, Gavelton in breezy conditions German zerabithea dominated proceedings in the first half going close on a number of occasions with the post being rattled at least twice. Tyrone Mennink produced a number of impressive saves to repeatedly deny the German zerabithea strikers who had been pressing all game, terrorising Luca van Eekeren, the right back who earned his 13th cap. Khabarovsk Krai were perhaps taken aback by the intensity of their opponents and the only shot of the first half came from George Nijeboer who shot wide from 25 yards.
During the second half Khabarovsk Krai looked more confident and were much more aggresive in their style of play. This agression was rewarded in the 68th minute when Renso van der Linde sprung clear of the German zerabithea rightback and flashed a low ball across the six yard box where it was met by the boot of Eppo Snepvangers who drilled it into the left hand corner. They came close on a number of other occasions: Martinus van der Zee shot wide after being slipped through by a Jorrin Hoogenraad chip over the German zerabithea defence and Noë Rijpstra climbed highest to force an instinctive save from the German zerabithea goalkeeper. The goal by Eppo Snepvangers eventually proved to be enough and Khabarovsk Krai edged out their opposition by 1 goal.

Having proved they have the capability to win at this level, Khabarovsk Krai will be hoping to take their form into the next game where they face Fuballo who ran out as comfortable winners 3-1 against Jah Sensimilia. They are likely to face a tougher more experienced side but with some belief and determination, there might be a chance of an upset.

The Britcan Times

4-3 to Britcan!

Britcan just managed to defeat The Kiaser Colonies in a game that had everyone, wether they were in the crowd of twenty-three thousand or one of the millions at home on their feet.

The game started slowly with most of the play occurring around the centre of the pitch. The first shot on goal came from Evan Murphy, Toby Holly made a lightning fast run down the left wing and crossed to Murphy who shot the ball towards the top corner only to be stopped by an excellent save from Liam O'Hare. The Kiaser Colonies then made a counter attack the captain, Greg Jackson managed to make it past Mike Ryan he then passed to Nomah Papakoi who made a shot towards the goal. Matt Ravens dived towards the ball but just missed it. 0-1 to The Kiaser Colonies.

The Kiaser Colonies then tried the same trick again Greg Jackson chipped the ball over Steve Brown who twisted his ankle as he turned to pursue, Jackson then had a clear path to goal. Matt Ravens tried to save it but the ball hit the back of the net. Steve Brown then limped of the pitch with the help of Edward Pierce, he was replaced by Miles Boyd. Brown is expected to miss the remainder of the tournament while he recovers.

Britcan then went on the attack, Joesph Crane ran up the right wing he fainted a pass to Ash Brian and then passed to the captain, Nick Horston. Horston got past Jerry Wallaby and then passed to Mike Rise before the other defenders could get to him Mike Rise then shot at goal with all his might. The ball soared through the air and hit the net, well out of reach of the opposing goalie. The Kiaser Colonies responded with force Ricky Lamont made a lightning run up the right wing, easily outpacing the Britcani Defence he chipped the ball over Neil Smith. The ball landed right at the feet of Mefoko Papakoi who smashed the ball into the net before Ravens could respond. The half time whistle then blew, it was 1-3 to The Kiaser Colonies.

During the half time break Albert Fraser made some adjustments to the formation. He took Ash Brian off the pitch and brought Lawrence Mann on. they were now using a 4-3-3 formation. This formation proved to be effective instantly with Mann running up almost as soon as play resumed. He passed to Mike Rise who ran past a defender, he then kicked the ball high in the air and Evan Murphy jumped in the air and headed the ball into the goal. 2-3 to The Kiaser Colonies.

Another attack was sent at The Kiaser Colonies. Nick Horston kicked the ball up to Lawrence Mann who then feinted a shot and passed to Evan Murphy who slammed the ball past the still confused keeper. The clock was ticking and time was running out Mike Rise ran up past the defenders and passed to Murphy who shot the ball towards the goal but the goalie managed to nudge the ball just enough that it bounced of the post. Lawrence Mann then took a shot but the ball hit the crossbar and flew into the air. Players from both teams ran forward to get to the ball, the timer was approaching zero. It was Nick Horston who got to the ball first he hit the ball with a powerful header and it flew towards goal, the keeper dived towards it, his arm outstretched. It hit the back of the net. The Britcani fans cheered, the final score 4-3 to Britcan.

The lineup for Britcan's match against Dimetrija tomorrow has been announced:

--------------Ravens--------------
---Boyd----Ryan----Smith---Pierce--
---Crane--Horston----Brown---Holly--
-----------Mann------Murphy------

We wish the boys the best of luck in the tournament we know they can win it.

The phone on Lady Anabella's desk began to ring. She had seen the match on the television screen and was not best pleased. A two nil defeat was not a good way to begin a major competition.
"What?"
"My lady, we are sorry."
"Sorry!? Sorry!? So you should be. The fate of a nation's success was on your shoulders and you went and lost it for us!"
"I apologise, but as a captain, I blame Adam Stephenson, he should never have been allowed in the goal!"
"Look Dominic, as the captain of the team, you ARE responsible for the success of your team so don't go shifting the blame. I'll be down there soon, once I have dealt with this business. Bye!"

With that, the phone conversation fell dead. She was not happy, the newly crowned head of the Albertasbian Football Committee had lost their game and now doubt about it, she would get the blame. She sighed as she glanced over her file. She scribbled down her new starting eleven for the next match, determined for a win.
Adam Bassendine (Goal)
Duke Gilhespie, Alex Blair, Andy Campbell and Craig McIntosh (Defence)
Dominic Sutherland (c), Jack Proffit and Jake Balfour (Midfield)
Brad Pink, James Clyburn and James Dixon (Attack)

She ran down the stairs and stormed into the player's dressing room, with a wide scowl on her face. She glared at each one, with a look that shone a clear blame upon them. She placed the team sheet on the wall and walked off in silence, leaving the team to watch.

At the base of the note read one clear statement: Lose again and you can go home!

The Daily Quak

Not The Start They Wanted

By: Lincoln Bator

The Quakmybush National Soccer Team began its Baptism of Fire campaign with an uninspiring effort against RenXasia. The Celts were extremely lucky to even gain a point with the effort they displayed. The Celts came out terrible, with RenXasia scoring just 5 minutes into the match. The Celts played catch up the whole match, with the forward corps afraid to play to offensive to risk going down a second goal. Substitutions were made, but no rhythm could be found. The Celts went into the half looking very down. Another substitution was made in the half time break, nothing changed however. Manager Jake Smithers laid into his club during the break, and was quoted after the match as stating "This has to be the worst performance in both Sharks and Celts history." The Celts came out flat once again, and got extremely lucky in the 85th minute when Jon Fields VII took a shot from the bottom of the half circle, that skimmed across the rainy pitch and fooled the RenXasia keeper.

The Celts were extremely lucky to get out of this game with one point, and will definatley need to step up their game in their next match against Ocel0t. They also are coming off of a tie, 0-0, with Raboso. The Celts will need to come up with a win to shoot up the standings in this swiss-style tounrey for any hope of advancing to the knock out stages of the Baptism of Fire. Currently the Celts sit 29th out of the 64 nations competing. With the top 8 and ties advancing, wins our nearly a neccesity and Celts must step up their game.

The Celts will go with a very similar lineup as the last game, with one change, starting in place of Siegmund Grahame will be Benjamin Jokum. Smithers said that this change is to get some experience into the relativley young Quakmybush lineup. All other players will start in the same place, with substitutions to made on the go. The Celts will make an attempt to have an offensive outburst in this match, with Jokum being slighty more offensive minded than Grahame.

The team was all sitting in the hotel bar celebrating their victory there were several groups sitting at tables on of these consisted of Mike Rise, Joshua Paul, Toby Holly and Matt Ravens.

Matt - What do you guys think of that cheerleader team? That pyramid thing they used to score a goal was very interesting, it would be difficult to stop.
Toby - I saw them do that, I think I have figured out a way to stop it.
Mike - Really how?
Toby - You guys know I do free-running right? Well what I plan to do is wear running shoes instead of Football boots then I could jump, get on top of the goal then jump off to intercept the ball stop them scoring.
Mike - You sure that would work?
Toby - Yeah I do stuff like that all the time.
Matt - Would that be legal?
Toby - I see no reason why not, if they can make a pyramid then I can jump off the goal.
Mike - *Mike sees Josh looking at his phone* What are you doing on your phone Josh?
Josh - *Looks up quickly and hides the screen* Nothing!
Matt - *Grabs the phone and looks at it* He is looking at a picture of one of the cheerleaders!
Toby - It's the one called Brooke. Why are you looking at her, are you some kind of pervert?
Josh - No it's not like that!
Mike - You've got a crush on her don't you?
Josh - Umm... well... kind of...
Matt - You want be to tell her? I can find out her email, those girls are very public about there stuff.
Josh - No please don't.
Toby - *Brings out a laptop from his bag* What is your email Josh?
Josh - JPfootball@Britcanmail.bkn why do you ask?
Toby - *Stops typing and presses enter* I've just sent her an email telling her you like her and what your email is.
Josh - You what! You are so dead!
*Toby puts his laptop away, stands up and runs with Josh following.*
*Matt & Mike start laughing.*

The Seleucius Daily Xeneize

Not good enough

By: Guillermo Barrios
Yesterday our new national football team forwards had a really good game, scoring 3 goals and producing many scoring opportunities, but this wasn't enough, some awful defensive mistakes lead to 4 goals for Blasphematic Fools team and to a disappointing debut for Seleucius in the Baptism of Fire.

An early freekick at minute 8 was greatly executed by Seleucius attacking midfilder Román Estevez and was the first goal, a good start. But Blasphematic Fools forwards answered with a counter attack and scored the 1 - 1 at minute 15. The game continued pretty even until a corner kicked by Estevez and a header from Martin Marzoli that put Seleucius ahead 2 - 1 a few minutes before half time.

Second half was a series of defensive mistakes from Selecius last line. An intersepted pass between the two defenders Mouzo and Tesorinni was the equalaiser and a lonly header was the 3-2 for Blasphematic Fools at minute 48 and 53. Later on minute 76 Hugo Rattini conceded a penalty wich sealed the match for Blasphematic Fools. Not even a magnificent goal from Silvio Palacios at minute 83 was enough and the match ended 4 - 3 to Blasphematic Fools.

Adriano Costa, head coach for the Espiañolan Nationa Team was delighted. The match against Rambipura went had gone swimmingly and Espiañola had won their first ever football match. He was wolking off the pitch when he heard his mobile ring.

"Hello, this is Adriano Costa speaking. Who is this?"
"Adriano, it's me Marcello!"
"Marcello, who?"
"Marcello Garcia."
"Sorry, I know a surprising amount of Marcello Garcias. Which one is this?"
"Head of the EFA. I'm surprised you didn't recognise my voice."
"Marcello! How are you? Did you enjoy the match?"
"Enjoy it? I loved it! You guys were fantastic! You deserved to win."
"Great! Glad to here it!"
"Yeah, I just wanted to congratulate you and the guys. Let's hope you can do it in our next match which I can confirm is against Andreass."
"Tough team. But I think we can win."
"Good luck against Andreass!"
"Thanks, mate! Bye!"
"Bye!"

"Andreass, ey?" Costa thought. "Let's win another."

Espiañola 2-1 Rambipura

Gil 44th Rambipura striker 78th

Alvarez 61st

Espiañola were able to take a momentous victory against Rambipura at City Stadium. The game was played in front of 15,342 people who eagerly awaited kick off. The teams kicked off, but for a long time nothing happened. Then in the 43rd minute Espiañola won a corner. Danilo Navarro took it short. He passed straight too Hernando Gonzalez, who dummied a defender and crossed it in straight onto the head of Franco Gil. Gil scored easily. 1-0. The second half started nicely for Espiañola. Espiañola scored again in the 61st minute when a clearance from Santiago Romero looked like it was going in. Roberto Alvarez gave chase. A sloppy save from the Rambipuran goalkeeper allowed Alvarez to knock it in. Every Espiañolan fan in the stadium cheered as loudly as possible. Nobody could quite believe taht Espiañola were leading their first ever football match. In the 78th minute rambipura got a decent goal, but it wasn't enough to prevent Espiañola taking the win.

Really, Again?
North Chicanan Expects Badness At Baptism Of Fire

Even Willingshire, in Numalia, Legalese

The Hoops began a run to finish what the old Kodiaks could not finish two days ago in Numalia, showing a lessening need for just Paul Owen to run the offense in a 4-3 workout against Kandorith.

The national hopes ran with surprise starter Taggart Page, who subbed for usual national starter Phoenix Longstreet in the sixth minute due to a strained left calf. Page made the best of his debut in international play, taking a feed from Ashley Miers to open the scoring in the 11th minutes and scoring off a James Pratt pass in the 63rd to give the team a 4-2 lead. Florian Bronby scored his first goal in international play in the 24th to tie the match back at 2 while Owen continued his streak of scoring to put the team up 3-2 in the 51st minute.

There could be problems for the side going through the next few matches, though, as the team accrued three yellows in the second half while protecting their lead. It was the team's first yellow's since the Warkus tournament and did put the managers in a slight panic. The final yellow, issued to Miers in stoppage time, led to Kandorith's final goal in the match just before the final whistle.

Game two will be in Erathore against North Orus, who sits 23rd in the standings after a 1-0 victory against Astograth in Bliss. We're sitting in 11th based on the goal differential/goals scored factor used to determine second-round matchups. Team manager Damien O'Neill said he was impressed with the Orus side and expects another high-scoring match for the Hoops, who will be looking to clime the ladder and stay in position for a damn cup for once. Reports from the team medic is that Longstreet should be fine for match play.

Matches in the Baptism of Fire are being shown live on CityTV, as City ha spassed over Test matches to TeleSport and Ch2.1HD for the Eleven's stay in Coffee Cakes.
