This is the second of three short test tournaments for Golfinator, a new scorinator for golf, as discussed in an earlier thread.
Conditions of entry
- Each NationStates nation may send up to two teams of two golfers each to compete.
- Each entered golfer needs an associated six-digit style at time of entry (see Styles, below.)
- A valid entry is made by the entering nation posting the names and styles for the entered golfers to this thread.
- Golfers who have competed previously use the same style in later events.
- If two or more nations are controlled by the same person, puppets must be identified.
- Should the field exceed 40 teams the organisers may, but need not, reduce the number accepted from each nation to shrink the field. This may be accomplished by taking only the first listed team from each nation, by eliminating puppet nations, and/or by cutting off entries.
Conditions of play
- The host venue is the BGA Stadium Course at San Marco, located at San Marco, Verne, The Babbage Islands, as in the Golfinator Open.
- The event begins with 36 holes at four-ball stroke play, one round of 18 holes each day.
- After two days or 36 holes, the field will be reduced to the top eight teams. Ties for the last spot or spots will be broken by sudden death, scorinated immediately.
- The eight remaining teams will play a knockout bracket, one match per day of four-ball match play. Matches tied after 18 holes continue on a sudden death basis until a result is achieved.
- Seeding each day is by qualifying score, seeding ties broken by total money earned by team members, then by lots.
- Scorination will take place daily at around 1100-1130 UTC.
Styles
In Golfinator, each golfer defines a style with a six-digit number, using each digit 1-6 once each. A 6 is best, a 1 is worst. These numbers correspond to relative strengths of different parts of the golfer's game, bearing in mind that no professional is truly weak at anything. Golfers who have competed previously use the same style in later events.
First digit = Length off the tee
Second digit = Accuracy from the tee
Third digit = Long irons
Fourth digit = Short irons
Fifth digit = Wedges
Sixth digit = Putting
So a XXX564 is a short-game specialist, a 62XXXX drives long but not necessarily straight, a XX56XX is particularly skilled with fairway irons, and so on. Remember, each of the digits 1-6 is used once for each golfer!
Ranking and Roleplay Bonuses
Ranking bonuses are based on total money earned by each golfer in the team, capping at 1.00 equal to the maximum RP bonus.
Roleplay bonuses will be used for posting a roleplay before any or all rounds. RP is cumulative but decays after each round, with a cap of 1.00. Multiple RP posts before the same round are scored as one.
What is Golfinator?
Golfinator is a spreadsheet-based (.ods Open Document format) scorinator for golf. It includes the following features:
- Custom golf courses -- every hole can have its own yardage, difficulty, and special features.
- Individual player styles -- 720 style options, with mods available for ranking and RP bonuses.
- Multiple forms of play -- individual and four-ball stroke play, singles and four-ball match play.
- Hole-by-hole results.
Public release of Golfinator is expected in the month of August 2009 as the tests progress; an Excel version is also planned.
