Menukten, in concert with the regions Rasta Narnia and The Interfaith Ecumenical Council are sponsoring the first International Lion Cup, a friendly competition between religious organizations for the eponymous trophy which shall be hosted by Haile Selassie IV (OOC: a puppet of mine) on the beautiful tropical island of Rasta Narnia. The tournament is an amateur competition in which four monasteries ( or churches, mosques, temples, synagogues, ashrams or other religious organizations) from a certain country enter and compete separately for the championship. The tournament in non-UICA, so it won't effect your country's international rankings, and completely amateur, so no professional teams allowed, please. The teams must also belong to a religious organization as defined by your nation's statutes. Secular clubs are not allowed to enter.
History
The Lion Cup was originally a friendly annual soccer competition between Rastanarnian monasteries that played for the coveted eponymous trophy. The tournament was started as a way to honor Jah Lion Aslan with a sporting competition. The tournament is several decades old and a firm part of Rastanarnian culture. The tournament is so popular that the Rasta Narnian government has declared the game day of the final match a regional holiday. The site of the final game, which is free to all spectators, always grows considerably larger during the tournament, with hole cities of tents springing up around the stadium like mushrooms after a thunderstorm, and the air hazy and pungent with the smell of ganja.
Trophy
The champion will be awarded the Lion Cup trophy:
The winning team shall also receive the following badge:
Purpose
The administrative board of Rasta Narnia's Monasterial League have decided, in consultation with The Interfaith Ecumenical Council, to open up the traditionally Rastanarnian tournament to the world. The purpose is to allow practitioners of different religions to meet and interact with each other outside of academia and ecumenical meetings in a friendly and fun football competition. The organizers hope that the tournament will help nurture peace, understanding, and harmony between the world's different religions and that participants will meet each other first as fellow lovers of football, rather than members of a different religion.
Hosting Situation
While Menukten is introducing the tournament to the world, Haile Selassie IV shall be hosting it. Further IC information will become available if it becomes obvious that people are interested in the tournament.
Format
Each nation will contribute four teams from religious organizations in their nation to the tournaments. The teams may all represent the same religion, or different ones. The tournament will start with a double round robin group stages, the number of groups dependent on how many nations sign up. Those in the bottom of the groups will be eliminated. The tournament will then progress to knock out stages, and then on to the finals.
Eligibility
Only amateur and expressly religious soccer/football clubs are eligible to enter the tournament. Religious universities. seminaries, and high schools are also eligible.

Competency
I'm new to sports roleplaying, but I've been on nationstates off and on since 2010. However I know many of you will have concerns about whether a newbie like me would be competent enough to host a tournament. Some of you might say I should gain the trust of the community first by entering competitions and with solid RPing before doing this sort of thing. These are legitimate concerns. However I think that a strong showing of my creative capabilities that hosting a tournament reveals would as do much to increase the currency of trust I will receive in this community than several months of laying low and entering the occasional tournament. However, don't take my word for it. Judge for yourself. If you are interested in the tournament, take the risk and join and see if I make a good showing.
I am currently running several domestic leagues (which in most cases are of obscure sports, which is one of the themes of The High County's sub-regions) which you can find here, here, and here.
To allay some concerns, I will run a mock up of the tournament below.
