History & General Information
Kingtonian Airways plc was founded in January 1952 with the passage of the Flag Carrier Act to promote international air travel in Kington Langley. It's initial years saw it flourish as airports flocked to the company seeking to establish routes, within a decade of its creation it had become the largest airline company in the region transporting around 60 million passengers per year and maintaining a fleet of around 350 aircraft. After a rise in the popularity of low-cost airlines the company inevitably become less popular for international passengers due to low-cost competitors, leading to the closure of many routes operated by the company for a substantial period of 30 years.
The overthrow of the extreme socialist republic in 2008 led to the long awaited privatisation of the company, the addition of the 'Royal' prefix and it's acquisition by financially dominant 'International Kingtonian Holdings' which saw an extreme financial overhaul of the company and it's brands and gave it the lift that would see it expand from a small international airline to a global competitor in less than 2 years, boasting an extensive international portfolio and high profits. As a result of record profitability, RKA Regional was started in late 2008 to operate routes within Kington Langley.
IKH soon encountered unforeseen financial problems caused by performance issues in a number of it's other subsidiaries that ultimately led to RKA becoming an independent private company for the first time. The RKA Group was created as the holding company for all the various brands and subsidiaries out of IKH which has subsequently gone into administration. The government recently gave the company the financial boost and legislative protection needed to expand and modernise, Royal Kingtonian Airways and it's subsidiaries now form some of the the best known and luxurious brands in the civil aviation industry.
