T4D2 Developing Area Phone
The T4D2 is a smartphone designed for charitable distribution in areas of the developing world and to at-risk populations in the developed world (such as the homeless), jointly developed by Tech 4 Development, the Allanean technology and development charity, and YellowApple Inc., the technology corporation. The work for the project has centered around providing the cheapest phone possible for the largest amount of people possible, even if this came at the expense of certain specifications of the phone.
Some assistance for this model has also been provided by the New Dornalian Sledgehammer Networks corporation, established by “Lady” Gracie Kurimitsu, as part of Sledgehammer Networks “Hammer-capable” line of computers sourced from various companies as part of a general rollout of the sattelite internet network. THe design philosophy shared by all actors involved was to create a way for participants to produce as many computers as possible, while making them available and easy to use for residents of the developing world. The slogan of the day is - CHEAP. EASY. DURABLE.
The device is equipped with several modes of Internet access. It is equipped with a transceiver chip for access for the New Dornalian free satellite Internet network, Sledgehammer Networks (allowing free, 1 MB/s access for anyone who agrees to register with the New Dornalian Sledgehammer social Network), and Wi-Fi capability, as well as being able to connect to existing 3G and 4G networks (using a SIM card).
A T4D2 phone
The phone is relatively small, with only a 4” screen, with a relatively small screen area compared to its size. This is to increase the durability of the device during use. The phone’s body is colored safety green.
