The Screamin'® Resort Florida, informally and commonly known as Screamin'® Resort is the world's largest entertainment complex that opened October 1, 1971, in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, and is the most visited attraction in the world, with an attendance of 67.8 million annually. It is owned by The Adrian Eastman Company through its division Eastman Parks and Resorts. The property covers over 30,000 acres, in which it houses twenty-four themed resorts, five theme parks, three water parks, and several additional recreational and entertainment venues. Dream Kingdom is the original theme park on the complex, and Kraze, Eastman Studios, Adventure Island and Draagon opened after the 1980s.

In 1959, Adrian Eastman Productions began looking for land for a second park to supplement the Screamin'® Resort California, which opened in Anaheim in 1955. Market surveys revealed that only five percent of the California resort's visitors came from east of the Mississippi River, where seventy-five percent of the population of the United States lived. Additionally, Adrian Eastman disliked the businesses that had sprung up around Screamin'® Resort California and wanted control of a much larger area of land for the new project.

Adrian Eastman flew over the Orlando-area site, which was one of many, in November 1963. Seeing the well-developed network of roads, including the planned Interstate 4 and Florida's Turnpike, with McCoy Air Force Base - which would later become Orlando International Airport - to the east, Eastman selected a centrally located site near Bay Lake.

To avoid a burst of land speculation, Eastman used various dummy corporations to acquire 27,443 acres of land. In May 1965, some of these major land transactions were recorded a few miles southwest of Orlando in Osceola County. Also, two large tracts totaling $1.5 million were sold, and smaller tracts of flatlands and cattle pastures were purchased by exotic-sounding companies such as the Latin-American Development and Management Corporation and the Reedy Creek Ranch Corporation. In addition to three huge parcels of land were many smaller parcels, referred to as outs.

Much of the land acquired had been platted into five acre lots in 1912 by a land company and sold to investors. Most owners were happy to get rid of the land, which was mostly swamp. Another issue was the mineral rights to the land, which were owned by Tufts University. Without the transfer of these rights, Tufts could come in at any time and demand the removal of buildings to obtain minerals. Eventually, Eastman's team negotiated a deal with Tufts to buy the mineral rights for $15,000.

Adrian Eastman explained the plans for the site, including Adventure City, which was to be a futuristic planned city - and which was also known as the City of Progress. He envisioned a working city with commercial and residential areas that also continued to showcase and test new ideas and concepts for urban living. Adrian Eastman died from lung cancer on December 15, 1966, before his vision was realized. His brother and business partner, Jake O. Eastman, postponed his retirement to oversee construction of the resort's first phase.

On February 2, 1967, Jake O. Eastman held a press conference at the Park Theaters in Winter Park, Florida. The role of Adventure City was emphasized in the film that was played, the last one recorded by Adrian Eastman before his death. After the film, it was explained that for Screamin'® Resort Florida, including Adventure City, to succeed, a special district would have to be formed: the Reedy Creek Improvement District with two cities inside it, Bay Lake and Reedy Creek (now Lake Buena Vista). In addition to the standard powers of an incorporated city, which include the issuance of tax-free bonds, the district would have immunity from any current or future county or state land-use laws. The only areas where the district had to submit to the county and state would be property taxes and elevator inspections.

The legislation forming the district and the two cities was signed into law by Florida Governor Claude R. Kirk, Jr. on May 12, 1967. The Florida Supreme Court then ruled in 1968 that the district was allowed to issue tax-exempt bonds for public projects within the district despite the sole beneficiary being Adrian Eastman Productions.

The district soon began construction of drainage canals, and Eastman built the first roads and Dream Kingdom. The Contemporary Resort Hotel, the Alkanese Village, and Fort Wilderness were also completed in time for the park's opening on October 1, 1971. The Palm and Magnolia golf courses near Dream Kingdom had opened a few weeks before. At the park's opening, Jake O. Eastman dedicated the property and declared that it was to be forever in his brother's remembrance. Jake O. Eastman died on December 20, 1971, less than three months after the property opened.

Much of Adrian Eastman's plans for his City of Progress were abandoned after his death, after the company board decided that it did not want to be in the business of running a city. The concept evolved into the resort's second theme park, Kraze Theme Park, which opened in 1977. The resort's third theme park, Adventure Island, opened in 1982. While still emulating Adrian Eastman's original idea of showcasing new technology, it is closer to a world's fair than a community of tomorrow. The resort's fourth theme park, Eastman Studios, opened in 1989. Followed by the fifth park, Eastman's Animal Kingdom, which opened in 1998.

Dream Kingdom
Theme of Park: Fairy tales, myths, legends
Opening Date: October 1, 1971
Park Icon: Ikhuzen Castle

Dream Kingdom is the first of the five theme parks built at the resort. It opened on October 1, 1971 and was dedicated by Jake Eastman. The park is dedicated to fairy tales, fairy tale characters, myths and legends, including Kai legends, and Imyahistani and Avantian tales. The park is aimed at families, mainly those with young children. In 2011, the park hosted approximately eighteen million visitors, making it the third most visited theme park in the world. The park is represented by Ikhuzen Castle, a replica of the fairy tale castle seen in the film Ikhuzen and heard in the story. Dream Kingdom is a larger and improved version of Eastmanland in California.

Kraze Theme Park

Park Icon: Mount Kraze

Kraze is the second of five theme parks built at the Screamin'® Resort in Bay Lake, Florida. It opened on July 4, 1977. The park is themed around the horror, action and racing movies made by Eastman Studios, and is aimed at adults and teenagers, but has a number of kid-friendly attractions. In 2011, the park hosted approximately twenty million visitors, making it the most visited theme park in the world. The park is represented by Kraze Mountain - which is the beginning of the Speed Ice attraction. Kraze later inspired the Guild Theme Park in Bergarek, Flynnerane.

Adventure Island
Theme of Park: International culture
Opening Date: October 1, 1982
Park Icon: The Globe of Wonder

Adventure Island is the fourth of five theme parks built at the Screamin'® Resort in Bay Lake, Florida. It opened on October 1, 1982. The park is themed around international culture and world exploration, and includes roller-coasters and kid-friendly attractions. The park is aimed at families of all ages. In 2011, the park hosted approximately twelve million guests, making it the fifth-most visited amusement park in the United States, and seventh-most visited in the world. Adventure Island is represented by the Globe of Wonder, a huge revolving globe of Earth which sits in the middle of The World Lagoon in the center of the park. It is lit up beautifully at night.

Eastman Studios
Theme of Park: Entertainment, Eastman movies
Opening Date: May 1, 1989
Park Icon: The Eastman Tower

Eastman Studios is the third of five theme parks built at the Screamin'® Resort in Bay Lake, Florida. It opened on May 1, 1989. The park is themed around the entertainment industry, and movies made by Eastman. It is aimed at families with older children, but has a number of kid-friendly attractions. In 2011, the park hosted approximately 9.7 million guests, making it the seventh-most visited amusement park in the United States, and eighth-most visited in the world. Eastman Studios is represented by the Eastman Tower, a huge tower which is lit up at night and can be seen for miles.

Animal Kingdom

Park Icon: The Tree of Spirit

Animal Kingdom is the fifth of five theme parks built at the Screamin'® Resort in Bay Lake, Florida, opened on Earth Day, April 22, 1998. It is the second largest theme park in the world and in the Screamin'® Resort, covering five-hundred acres, and is also the first Eastman theme park to be themed entirely around animal conservation, a philosophy once pioneered by Adrian Eastman himself. Animal Kingdom is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums, meaning they have met or exceeded the standards in education, conservation, and research. In 2013, the park hosted approximately 10.19 million guests, ranking it the fourth-most visited amusement park in the United States and seventh-most visited in the world.

Aqua Island

Aqua Island is the first of three water parks built at the Screamin' Resort in Bay Lake, Florida and is known as the Water Park of Dream Kingdom. The park, which opened on July 16, 1985, is home to the world's largest outdoor wave pool. The theme of the park is an eastern coast Austerekian surfing haven, and has surf boards and surfing shacks around the park. The centerpiece of Aqua Island is Old Rock, a replica of the Uluru in the Austerekian outback. In 2012, the park hosted approximately two million visitors, making it the second-most visited water park in the world.

Pacifica
Theme of Park: Alkanese beach paradise
Opening Date: May 5, 1993
Park Icon: Mauna Loa

Pacifica is the second of three water parks built at the Screamin' Resort in Bay Lake, Florida and is known as the Water Park of Kraze. It opened May 5, 1993, and is home to the longest and fastest river rapids in the world, called Kawabochi Rapids. The theme of the park is a pacific island paradise, with bamboo shacks and representations of Alkanese and pacific island culture. The centerpiece of the park is Mauna Loa, a replica of the volcano in Alkana, which erupts a sixty foot geyser of water every half-hour, which signals the start of the Whirlpool in the wave pool. In 2012, the park hosted approximately three million visitors, making it the most visited water park in the world.

Adventure Bay
Theme of Park: International tropical beaches
Opening Date: July 1, 2000
Park Icon: World Peak

Adventure Bay is the third of three water parks built at the Screamin' Resort in Bay Lake, Florida, and is known as the Water Park of Adventure Island. It opened July 1, 2000, and is home to the tallest water slide in the world: the Great White-Knuckle Drop - which stands at more than two-hundred feet. The theme of the park is international tropical beaches, with representations of different world surfing and beach locations placed around the centerpiece. The centerpiece of the park is the World Peak, an man-made flat topped mountain. In 2012, the park hosted approximately two million visitors, making it the second or third most visited water park in the world.

Downtown Eastman

Downtown Eastman, which was originally called Downtown Boulevard until 1982, is an outdoor shopping, dining, and entertainment complex at the Screamin' Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, opened on March 22, 1975. It is open to the public, requires no admission fee, and offers complimentary parking and transportation to all Eastman-operated Screamin' resorts. Notable tenants include the Círculo de Sol's La Fiesta, Eastman Quest, the House of Blues, Planet Hollywood, the Elite Imagination Center, World of Eastman, Eastman Dine-In Theater, Splitsville Luxury Lanes and the Rainforest Cafe.

Eastman's BoardWalk
Type of Attraction: Entertainment complex
Opening Date: July 1, 1996
Price of Admission: Free

The BoardWalk entertainment district lies along a 0.25 mile long authentic boardwalk, reminiscent of Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York. Guests can rent surreys or bicycles to travel around the Kraze resorts, enjoy classic midway games and street performers, go dancing at the Atlantic Dance Hall or enjoy a dueling pianos show at Jellyrolls. The BoardWalk features a wide range of restaurants. The Big River Grille & Brewing Works is the only microbrewery at the Screamin' Resort, and serves Zitran cuisine along with its unique selection of beers. ESPN Club is a modern sports bar presented by the Eastman-owned sports network, complete with broadcast facilities for special events. Pablo's is a Spanish restaurant which offers Mediterranean cuisine for breakfast and lunch, and La Pizzeria Napoli is an Italian pizzeria which hand-makes and serves fresh, thin based pizza.

Nike World of Sports Complex

The Nike World of Sports Complex is a three-hundred acre athletic complex located in the Screamin' Resort, opened March 5, 1997. The complex includes numerous venues and hosts a number of amateur and professional sporting events throughout the year. It was known as Eastman's Wide World of Sports Complex before it was re-branded with the Nike brand, after Eastman were given rights to use it. The complex includes soccer, football, baseball, and outdoor frusball fields, tennis and badminton courts, indoor basketball courts, indoor frusball courts and other indoor sports. There is also a track and field complex, and a cross country course.

Eastman's Adventure Safari
Type of Attraction: Interactive safari adventure
Opening Date: April 22, 2004
Price of Admission: $20 for Adults, $15 for Children; Included with Online Tickets

Eastman's Adventure Safari is a four hundred acre interactive safari aimed at families and animal-lovers, which opened April 22, 2004. Original plans were to build a new safari-themed hotel in the same location, but the company changed their plans in 2000, and decided to build a safari. The safari is home to many species of animals, and guests are taken on an interactive tour in a truck. It also has its own river, called the Eastman River, which runs around the outside of the safari, where guests are taken on boat tours. The attraction's centerpiece is the Guardian Tree, which has an Eastman Legend which says the tree is to "protect the animals and environment of the safari". On Christmas and Halloween the tree is beautifully decorated. There are also plans to build a safari-themed resort near the attraction.

Eastman Speedway
Type of Attraction: Racing facility
Opening Date: June 10, 2001
Price of Admission: WIP

The Eastman Speedway is a racing facility located on the grounds of the Screamin' Resort in Bay Lake, Florida. The track is located near Dream Kingdom's parking lot. It was built in 2001 by the National Association for Car Auto Racing (NASCAR), and was designed to be a venue for the NASCAR Grand Prix, a monthly event hosted around Zurope. Today the circuit is also used for the Derek Viceazh Racing Experience, where guests and fans can drive or ride in real NASCAR race cars, and even race each other. The speedway is still occasionally used as a NASCAR Grand Prix venue to this day.

Screamin'® Resort Monorail System
The Screamin'® Resort Monorail System is a public transit system in operation at the Screamin'® Resort Florida. The Screamin'® Resort currently operates sixteen Mark VI monorail trains on five lines of service. The monorail system opened in 1971 with two routes - Dream Kingdom: Resort and Express - and with Mark IV monorail trains. It was expanded to three lines - Dream Kingdom: Resort and Express, plus Kraze - in 1982, and switched to Mark VI trains in 1989. Later in 2004, two new lines were added - Eastman Studios: Express, plus the Adventure Island & Entertainment loop, and then the Ultimate Resort loop. The system is the most heavily used monorail system in the world.

The Express and Resort services on the dual-beam Dream Kingdom route:

• Express: Express service between the Dream Kingdom and the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC). Express service runs on the outer loop of this route and travels counter-clockwise.
• Resort: Round-trip local service on the inner loop, running clockwise, making stops in order at the Dream Kingdom, Eastman's Contemporary Resort, the Transportation and Ticket Center, Eastman's Tropican Resort, and Eastman's Grand Resort & Spa.

The single beam Kraze route:

• Kraze: Service between the Transportation and Ticket Center and Kraze. Service on this route is a single beam running clockwise on the loop.

The Express and Resort services on the dual-beam Eastman Studios route:

• Express: Service between the Transportation and Ticket Center and Eastman Studios. Express service runs on the outer loop of this route and travels clockwise.
• Resort: Round trip local service on the inner loop, running counter-clockwise, making in stops in order at Eastman Studios, Eastman's Ultimate Resort and the Transportation and Ticket Center.

The dual beam Adventure Island and Entertainment route:

• Adventure Island: Service between the Transportation and Ticket Center, Kraze and Adventure Island. Adventure Island service runs on the outer loop of this route and travels counter-clockwise.
• Entertainment: Round-trip local service on the inner loop, running clockwise, making stops in order at Adventure Island, the Transportation and Ticket Center, Downtown Eastman and the Adventure Safari.

Eastman Transport

Eastman Buses
Except where monorail or ferry service exists or walking is practical, direct bus service is provided from every hotel to every attraction, and between attractions. This contrasts with most public transportation systems, which use a hub-and-spoke system. Our approach avoids transfers for most movements, but leads to longer wait times. However, we try to keep wait times below twenty minutes. Direct transportation between hotels is not provided, unless they happen to be on the same bus route. Typically, no service is provided between Downtown Eastman and other attractions. An exception is Aqua Island, which lies on the same route. When this was offered, guests parked for free at Downtown Eastman to avoid paying for parking at the theme parks. The second is a limited time offer, which provides transfer between Downtown Eastman and Adventure Island. Eastman Transport buses also carry cast members around the resort.

Parking Lot Trams
Eastman Transport is also responsible for maintaining the parking lot trams used for shuttling visitors between the parking lots and the theme park entrances by the parking cast members. Each theme park has its own fleet of parking lot trams, which depends on the size of the parking lot. All trams run a round-trip route around the different areas of the parking lot, dropping off and picking up Guests. As well as the driver, a cast member is present at the back of the tram with a radio to make announcements, and also inform Guests about the park they are visiting.

Watercraft
The resort also maintains a fleet of watercraft providing additional access between various Eastman resorts and parks. While some route duplication does take place, the watercraft provide an alternative way to travel from one location to another. The most notable of these boats are the large ferries that traverse the Fantasy Lagoon between the Transportation and Ticket Center and the Dream Kingdom. However, there are several other routes, including:

• Water launches link the Dream Kingdom to Disney's Grand Resort & Spa and Disney's Tropican Resort via the Fantasy Lagoon
• Water launches also connect to the Fantasy Lagoon to Bay Lake using a water bridge to reach Eastman's Ultimate Resort, Eastman's Palm Trail Lodge and Eastman's Palm Trail Resort & Campground
• Kraze Ship launches operate on the Paradise Lagoon in Kraze, and connect Paradise Island to the main park via the Paradise River
• Other Kraze Ship launches connect Kraze's Gateway to Eastman Studios via Crescent Lake, with additional service to the Kraze Resorts
• Water taxis link Eastman's La Sol Resort, Eastman's Terulan Resort and Disney's Manaloga Springs Resort & Spa to City Boulevard along the Maravilla River

Eastman's Magical Express
Guests with an Eastman Resort reservation arriving at Orlando International Airport can be transported to their resort from the airport using the complimentary Eastman Magical Express service, which is operated by Destiny Vacations as Screamin'® Resort is not allowed to transport guests off resort property. Guests can also have their bags picked up and transported for them through a contract with Destiny Vacations. Destiny Vacations operates custom motor coaches and luggage is delivered to the guests' rooms by Destiny Vacations. Disney Cruise Line buses are also operated by Mears.
