Diamond Star heavy Products is the onstruction plant division of Diamond Star and specialises in the construction of construction machinery and plant equipment. Our product range is geared primarily to be road transportable using low-loader transporters. The history of Diamond Star Heavy products dates back to 1965 when Kristen Sandersson founded Sanderson Machinenfabrik, producing his first product, a tracked excavator. This excavator proved to be successful, however due to competition from the likes of Hitachi and Komatsu, Sanderson Machinenfabrik was unable to keep up with demand. by 1970, Sanderson Machinenfabrik was having production difficulties so sold the company to Diamond Star.

The Diamond Star takeover took the factory and made improvements, these improvements increased production capability by around 120% and brought down costs, resulting in the company eventually returning to proifit in 1972. With the construction boom in the 1980s, Diamond Star introduced a new 360 degree excavator which has been slowly evolved ever since and is now frequent sight on Auroran construction sites.

The factory covers 1.6 million square meters of space, making it one of the biggest factories in the Aurora Confederacy, and with comouter controlled operations it is also one of the most advanced factories in the country. From the start of fabrication to rolling off the production line, it takles just 24 hours to produce a single machine, with the main production line and the sub assembly production lines all being on a moving track, passing from one assembly stage to the next in a steady creep. At various points down the main production line, the various sub assembly production lines come together, the first of these is the track joining stage, second stage is the body join stage, third is the power plant install, 4th is digger arm and hydraulics, 5th is the second stage of the hydraulic arm, with the 6th stage being the bucket install and fuelling.at stage 7, the excavators are driven off the production line to the test area.

Where are we based?
The headquarters of Diamond Star Automotive is situated in Khayr South Sands, at the power station industrial complex. Situated directly opposite the main Power Station building. This close proximity to South Sands Nuclear Power Station enables Diamond Star to use the secondary cooling loop to heat the factory complex and office complex, making use of the heat that is in the coolant before it is cooled in the condenser prior to returning to the heat exchanger to cool the primary coolant loop. The offices are less than 500m from the Power Station reactor containment building.

To distribute our product from the South Sands factory, Diamond Star uses the nearby Sandsport, the southern most sea port in the Aurora Confederacy, this allows product to be shipped to anywhere with a seaport. Product bound for geographic Europe can also be shipped by rail over the Rai'Lal sea span rail-link.

Can we meet demand?
Diamond Star has no problems meeting the production demands of our customers, as the main factory is capable of producing 50 units per day over a single 8 hour shift with the factory running over a 24 hour production cycle, 7 days per week, and that is just Rai'Lal factory, there are two additional factories that produce wheeled equipment and rigid frame equipment in Longyearbyen and Khayr Mi'aza, giving a total capacity of 220 units per day over a 24 hour production cycle. As production demands increase, Diamond Star will be constructing additional factories as required'

Diamond Star and the environment
In the current climate, the Environment is on every nations mind, and so Diamond Star is doing its bit for the environment too. Since 1980 we have been developing special synthetic oils which are developed from natural and sustainable sources, and with our engines being air cooled, our engines do not rely on toxic antifreeze.

The Diamond Star heavy truck factory has been built with care for the environment in mind. Great care has gone into the building and production process to reduce industrial wastage as much as is physically possible. Waste metal from the pressing process is shipped back to the metal foundry to be put back into the cycle rather than be simply put in landfill.

Powered by a 6 cylinder air cooled sleeve valve diesel engine that is developed from the proven 19.1 RX V12 diesel engine, the C430T is the excavator to have. its powerful hydraulics provide plenty of force to break the most stubborn of ground, and when the optional jackhammer is in use, even Granite will succumb to the power. Keeping the hydraulics in check is a fully digital control system that gives the operator finger light controls with a high degree of accuracy, and when working in program mode the bucket can be placed with millimeter accuracy in all axis.

Operating in confinded areas with possibly live electrical wires overhead, such as on a railway, the C430T has a travel limit feature that keeps the dig arm safely away from the wires, preventing damage to the lines and increasing the safety of people working around the excavator. Because of the size of such vehicles there is a large blindspot to the right and to the rear of the bodywork, so to increase safety the C430T has a series of sensors on the rear of the bodywork and on the dig arm, giving the operator an extra set of eyes, protecting other workers.

Control of the C430T uses two foot pedals to slew the bodywork, two hand levers to control the tracks, with two side sticks to control the arm in the usual fashion, however the right hand joystick can be activated to control the tracks if the need requires, giving the operator a high degree of control, the joysticks also have a set of function controls on them to activate such items like auxiliary impact hammers for use when rock breaking. To provide the operator with a high degree of comfort, the C430T is equipped with a two-way radio and an MP3 / cassette radio system as opposed to a CD player, furthermore the C430T has air conditioning to ensure optimum operator comfort

Diamond Star's TH26 is a small, manouvrable telescopic handler, ideal for use on farms and small construction sites. Available with a set of quick detatch forks and a bucket, the TH26 can quiclky swap to a bucket loader to a fork lift without the need for the driver to need to get out of the cab. Its punchy 4 litre diesel engine puts 150bhp, and its all wheel steering means it is an extremely manoeuvrable machine on the jobsite, and with independent suspension rather than rigid beam axles means that on highway, the TH26 can legally travel at 40mph over highway where unsuspended telescopic handling vehicles are restricted to 20mph, and with a full time four wheel drive system, the only thing that stops it are its brakes.

Control of the hydraulics system is by means of a single joystick which controls reach, elevation, fork side sift, body angle and bucket tilt, and with the gearshift being on the steering column, the operator can keep one hand on the steering and one hand on the hydraulics, and able to move from function to function on the hydraulics without having to move hand from one lever to another, making operation extremely efficient and ergonomic. For stability when operating the hydraulics, the independent suspension can be set to lock, this locks the front axle suspension to increase stability, so you have the best of both worlds, independent road suspension for travelling on the highway, fixed axle when working the hydraulics, and when carrying a load, active boom damping means that forks have excellent load stability when working as a forklift, ideal when carrying liquids. For the driver, the suspension system and ergonomic control system along with an MP3 CD stereo system, air conditioning and a powerful heating system, the TH26 is a comfortable place to spend the working day, and the heavy duty cab structure means its a safe place too.

SAFETY AT WORK
Diamond Star's TH26 is a safe workplace, a sophisticated stability system will not permit the operator to take the vehicle out of its stability envelope, a load stability monitoring system is fitted to the hydraulics, If the driver goes to lower the boom with whilst fully extended, the system will automatically retract the boom, keeping the load within the safe operating envelope. The same goes if the load is attempted to be lifted, if the load is too heavy for the TH26 to handle safely, such as if the boom is fully extended at level. And when the boom is extended whilst carrying a load at low level, the load stability monitoring system will stop the booms extention when it senses the vehicle is going to become unstable. To reverse safely, the TH26 comes equipped with a rearward viewing camera as well as the usual rear view mirrors, this gives the driver an enhanced view of what is behind the vehicle, whilst a reversing siren alerts people behind the vehicle.

In open cast mining, there is the need to move the overburden from above the coal that you are trying to extract, traditionally this has involved large lumbering trucks, though now things are about to change as Diamond Star are introducing to the world the Future Haul truck.

Since March 2010, the two prototypes have undergone extensive trials in service to see how they perform in service. The results at Longyearbyen coal mine have proved to be very successful, so June 2012 has seen the decision to put the Future Haul truck into full production at the South Sands production site. in 18 months, the only recorded down time has been for routine servicing and maintenance which despite the high degree of electronics, is not that complex.

With its 10 bogie 20 wheel design, the Future Haul truck uses an all electric drive system, power for which comes from two Diamond Star 24 litre sleeve valve engines and two generators. This means that when running empty, and so lightly loaded, only one engine is in use, saving fuel and reducing engine emissions. The unique multi-element suspension and drive system is self levelling both widthways and length ways, giving the FHT an unprecidented ride on the quarry roads, keeping a completely level ride whilst more traditional 2-axle haul trucks pitch, roll and twist on the same roads, its lower-profile whilst still carrying the same payload keeps the center of gravity lower, and so makes the FHT more stable than a traditional haul truck, and equally important, reduces driver fatigue.

When it comes to manouvrability, the FHT has the ability to swivel all 10 wheeltruck modules through 360 degrees which means the FHT can move in any direction, making it very manouvrable for a vehicle of its size. there are 3 steer modes, these are Front only, crab steer, and enhanced manouverbility, where the front 4 trucks steer opposite to the rear 6 trucks, each one at a slightly different angle, this reduces tyre scrub, and so the amount of energy needed to overcome the latteral resistance of the tyres, this means the FHT needs less power to manouvre compared to a rigid 5 axle vehicle that has only 2 axle steering, and the ability to drive sideways means it can get into and out of the tightest of tipping locations with consumate ease, Tight-steer mode, (mode3), on full lock, the FTR can turn around in its own length. When it comes to performance, with its high power to weight ratio, the 70km/h top speed comes relatively quick for a vehicle that fully loaded weighs 400,000kg.

Control for the FHT uses a side-stick system, making it one of the easiest vehicles to drive, and with 4 wide-angle cameras covering the rear of the vehicle, it has the best all round visibility of any mine haul truck, and with all round visibility comes safety. Traction control to the FHT is also a standard feature, and power to each wheel is controlled independently, this means that the FHT always has optimum traction, so no matter how slippery the mine road, the FHT will still get traction without wheelspin. When running empty back down to the mine face, the FTR, not only shuts down one generator to save on fuel, but to save fuel further by reducing generator load on the running power pack, axles 3 and 5 lift off the floor completely, turning the 10x10 into a 6x6. To equalise engine hours, the FTR's on board computer system will rotate the shut down engine, rather than shutting down the same engine all the time.

The braking system is a combination of heavy duty wheel brakes and 10 electrodynamic retarders, this enables the FHT to decend steep quarry and open cast mine roads without the worry of brake fade as 90% of the braking is done using the EDR system, each EDR is able to independently adjust its power thanks to its own computer control system, though each of the wheel station and traction control computers is cross linked, so each of the 10 computers is able to work any number of the 10 axle sets, even all 10 if it has to, giving not double redundancy but 9 back up systems making the FHT one of the most reliable vehicles in the business. Should an engine fail, the modular power pack allows engines to be removed and replaced with minimal downtime to the customer.

The use of the modular design has the following features, each component is common, just the number of parts is different for the model, so if for some reason the truck develops a fault, its partner components can take over, keeping the FTR mobile, allowing it to return back to the depot under its own power where as a traditional haul truck will require assistance from a recovery vehicle. This ability to return back to base under its own power means the operator has a significant cost saving in down time.

Working off road, tyres are highly likely to get damaged, should this happen with the FTR, the smaller size of the FTRs 24.00R35, compared to the 40.00R57 for a standard 2-axle truck means the FTR tyres are easily replaced, and a lot less expensive too. Should an inside tyre fail, getting to it is a lot easier, as the tyre can be changed from underneath the vehicle, without the need to remove the possibly undamaged outer tyre. This means a tyre can be changed in under half an hour, the independent axle system also means that a wheeltruck that has got a damaged tyre can be lifted up off the floor, enabling the remaining 18 tyres to support the weight, allowing the FTR to get back to the depot to be have the tyre changed, saving time and more importantly money.

A conventional 6-tyre 2-axle haul truck puts down over 70,000kgs per tyre, this high weight causes a lot of wear and tear on the quarry roads, the FTR in comparison puts down just 20,000kgs per tyre, significantly reducing wear on the road due to the lighter footprint, and reducing tyrewear as well, this reduction in tyre wear extends tyre life and has a significant cost saving over the life of the vehicle. The wide spacing of the tyres also means that there is less likelyhood of foreign objects getting wedged between the tyres, such items getting wedged between tyres cause premature tyre wear and component wear by causing the axle to become out of balance, the wide spacing of the wheels on each of the 10 transmission modules means this can not happen.

The traditional haul truck design has various problems when operating in snowy and other slippery conditions, this means that they can not operate due to health and safety concerns, and if they can not operate, the loaders and bulldozers also have to shut down operations because the Primary haulage operation has shut down. This shut down can cause a mine to loose productivity as quite simply if nothing is moving, the mine is loosing money. The Diamond Star FHT changes this as it is able to run in all climatic conditions SAFELY, so now the only time a Future Haul Truck stops moving is for the drivers to change over at the start and end of shifts, or when your mine shift is on its break time.

Onboard diagnostics computers also give the vehicle a full diagnostic check, alerting the driver to any potential faults that develop, this reduces the time needed to carry out the pre-shift checks that with traditional large haul trucks used to take 20 mins per shift. These checks with the Diamond Star Future Haul truck now take just 10 minutes, a saving of 30 minutes across the 24 hour 3-shift working day of the mine. This all brings about an increase in productivity for your mine of up to 25%.

For the driver, there are plenty of features that will make his life easy and as comfortable as possible whilst on shift, these include:

Heated glass and mirrors
Side-Stick controls for tipping and direction controls.

From lay-down to roll out, the Future Haul truck takes around 8 days, 5days of this is taken up by the fabrication of parts. After fabrication and powder coating of parts, they are then loaded into shipping containers, Once loaded into containers, the truck, now in kit form will be delivered to the jobsite by sea to a port, where the containers are loaded onto trucks and delivered to the jobsite. Here the clock re-starts, Field technicians will then start to assemble the Future Haul Truck, working 3-shifts to cover a 24 hour period. Due to the modular design, and with each container is numbered, location of each individual sub assembly is easy with everything quite simply bolting together. Final construction takes around 3 working days.

Diamond Star's plant division are now offering the CB800 frame steer loader, powered by Diamond Star's punchy Q-tec Euro5 air cooled 12.2 litre sleeve valve V12 rated at 400bhp, which through a hydrostatic torque managed transmission system power is fed to all 4 wheels and a powerful hydraulic system.

A unique feature of the CM800 loader is the lack of a steering wheel and foot pedals, instead Diamond Star have designed the CM800 to use two side sticks. The left side stick controls direction of travel, with two buttons on top of the stick function as a gear shift, giving 6 forward and 6 reverse speeds. The right hand stick controls the bucket system on the front. This, along with a dust controlled air conditioned cabin with a CB radio option and a stereo system mean that your operator has a comfortable place to spend his shift, whether it be on a quarry, open cast mine or a salt yard of the local highways department. The on board diesel tank has enough fuel for 2 full 24 hour shifts

There is the option of integrating the PTT of the CB radio into the joystick operation, putting a button on top of the digger controls, with the mic for it situated on the cabin structure, though you can still choose to have a conventional CB system installed.

Designed for inner city distribution, the Diamond Star Magnox blends the technology of the Mjolnir 25RX into a rigid vehicle design, whilst its low floor design makes entry and exit easy for the driver. Like its larger stablemate, the Mjolnir, the Magnox has excellent ride characteristics due to all round pneumatic independent suspension with rack and pinion steering and comes as a rigid truck in either 18 tonne or 25 tonne variants with the 25 tonne model being slightly longer with rear axle steering for reduced tyre wear and a smaller turning circle. OR as a tractor unit in the form of the 18RX Tractor

With the cab being a development of the Mjolnir, Diamond star's high-spec European tractor unit, many of the features of the Mjolnir have been carried over to the smaller Magnox, this ranges from the intelligent use of the cab space inside, to the dashboard and control layout, such as the steering column mounted controls for the IntelliCruise transmission system, this keeps everything within easy reach of the driver, making for a comfortable and ergonomic workspace.

Seating is equally important, and the Magnox is no exception with leather seats as an option with though fabric seats come as standard. seat adjustment is fully electronic, controlled by a set of buttons on the inboard face of the seat base, adjustment includes reach, tilt, height, back-tilt, lumbar support, head-rest hight, angle and reach. These settings have up until now been the preserve of high end luxury cars like those produced by Mercedes-Benz.

Though the Magnox is designed for innercity distribution, rather than overnight long haul operations The Magnox is still fitted with an Ebascher night heater which when running uses less than 2 litres of fuel over an entire night, compared to an average of 2 litres of fuel an hour to idle the engine to provide heating. The main heater for the cabin is provided through an oil-radiator, though this works in the same manner as the heating system in water cooled engines. An optional flow system can be installed to allow the night heater to also heat up the oil for when working in severe climates, keeping the lubricant at an optimum temperature whilst the engine is shut down.

Getting too hot, we have that covered too, as the Mjolnir also has air conditioning as standard along with electric windows and sunroof, both of which are double glazed and heated for additional comfort, the sunroof is also controlled from the bunk space as well as a switch on both doors, so it isn't just the driver who has control over the sunroof.

Every morning, a driver is required to carry out a pre-shift check, to make this task easier, the USB active key has the ability to run through the light check function of the vehicle. As with its 6 wheel sister model, the usb key is tied in with the Satellite Navigation system, allowing the maps top be easily updated from a PC. As well as the manual oil dip stick to check oil levels, the Magnox comes with electronic sensors to check oil level, alerting low oil pressure or level to the driver by the central information display. This display is scrollable through a button on the steering wheel, and gives parameter information on:

Miles to next service

Turning the key, the display flashes up a welcome message, which can be driver programed, though the default reads "Welcome to Magnox". After the welcome message dissapears, it runs through a scroll of the oil level, tyre pressure, showing which tyre is being checked on a graphic, washer fluid level, miles to service. The next message reads "Ok to start" Once the engine is running, the Hours of service comes up. Information is displayed in 3 parts:

After 4 hours 15 mins, it alerts the driver that there is only 15 mins of driving time left. When break is selected on the digital tachograph unit, the timer starts ticking, displaying break time, however if the tachograph is taken off break or moved before 15 minutes, the timer is reset, as the minimum break on the default EU setting is 15 minutes. after a period of 45 minutes of break, the driving hours resets to zero ready for the second period of 4 hours 30 minutes. when the timer comes up to 9 hours, after a second 45 minute break, the timer goes to 60 mins and counts down. If there is no card in the digital tachograph, (which the display is linked), it flashes up "!CARD!" telling the driver that there is no card in the digital tachpgraph.

The Diamond Star Magnox comes equipped with Intellidrive, which is Diamond Star's intelligent cruise control system that adapts to the changing conditions on the road by using sensors around the vehicle to maintain safe proximity to the vehicle in front, so when activated it will maintain a 3 second gap to the vehicle in front. That is the safety aspect, the other aspect of the system is the use of Global Positioning System technology to predict the road and terrain ahead. On the flat it selects a gear that means that no more than 70% power is being used to maintain a given speed, but as the truck approaches a hill, the system initiates a gearshift to put the truck into the optimum gear for the climb and applies power to send the truck up the hill. As it gets close to the top of the hill, the on board computer, using GPS data changes back to the original gear the truck was in before the hill was climbed, then eases off the power at the optimum time to enable the trucks own momentum to carry the truck over the crest, applying power once back on the flat.

When the truck is approaching a bend, the system will back off the power and allow the trucks own momentum to carry the truck as the driver negotiates the bend, however if the entrance speed is going to be too high for the bend in question, Intellidrive will initiate the activation of the exhaust brake and excecute a downshift operation to gently slow the truck to a speed safe enough for the driver to negotiate the bend. activation of the engine brake and downshift takes place at a point prior to the bend and can change depending on approach speed so that the vehicle is at the correct speed to safely negotiate the bend when it reaches the bend, once the obstacle has passed the the truck under Intellidrive cruise control will begin to accellerate gently back to its original speed, taking the best gear pattern according to the terrain to get the optimum fuel economy, furthermore the GPS system is also able to adjust the set speed depending on changes of the posted speed limit though remembering the drivers setting, so when the truck passes back into a higher speed limit area Intelldrive will return to the original speed set by the driver when the frontal sensors detect that it is safe to do so.

Active Brake Assist
Active Brake Assist is designed to prevent a driver inadvertently causing a rear-end shunt, by detecting slow moving traffic or stationary traffic, Active Brake Assist uses the same sensor system for the distance keeping operation of the Intellidrive, however it is always active. When the system detects that the truck is in a situation where it is at risk of having a rear-on collision, the brakes are automatically applied along with the hazard warning lights, decelerating the truck in full emergency stop conditions. With the brakes being anti-skid in operation, braking ability of the Mjolnir 25RX is of the higherst performance, capable of hauling the 44,000kg Mjolnir to a dead stop from 100km/h in 20m less distance than older models.

Blind Spot Proximity

Due to their size, large commercial vehicles despite having frontal mirrors, kerb mirror on the near-side, and wide angle mirrors will always have significant blind spots, The Blindspot proximity Alert system gives the driver eyes where normally there is no vision, this means that lane changes stand to become a safer place as sensors down each side of the truck detect and alert the driver to an obstruction in the lane that the driver wishes to join, severely reducing the chances of the driver side-swiping another vehicle.

Reversing too has become a lot safer as there is also now a standard rearward camera and reversing radar system, so even when the truck is at 90 degrees to the trailer, and so the driver having no vision through the mirrors to what is behind the cab, and to the far side of the trailer, the Mjolnir's Blind Spot Proximity has that coved too, making the yard a safer location, and with a frontal sensor system, the Mjolnir has 360 degree coverage.

When an obstruction is detected by the sensors, an audible tone is sounded in the cab and the dash display alerts the driver to the location of the obstruction, whether it be a car that has not noticed the indicators flashing or a piece of debris or a pallet that is down the side of the trailer, out of mirror view. Operating the blindspot proximity system is remarkably simple as the sideways warning is linked to the turn signals, and the 360 system is linked to the 4-way hazard lights.

Diamond Star's Auto Genesis car transporter combination is built around the Diamond Star Magnox tractor unit and has the abilty to carry upto 9 average cars such as the Toyota Avensis or Van-Luxemburg L5, or 12 small cars such as the smart car, or 5 large SUV type vehicles making it the ideal vehicle for delivering your automobiles.

To load the large SUV type vehicles yet keep within the 4m height limit, the pr deck of the forward section is in two halves, the rear half is able to swing down at the front to lower the rear of the SUV down, so that the bonnet of the SUV is the highest point, which will remain at no higher than 4.0m if loaded correctly, with the SUV in the lower section of the front half facing forward and underneath the SUV loaded on the upper section. The SUV on the lower section is driven in reverse and upper ramp lowered down at the rear then the two SUV's are loaded on forwards With this layout, your vehicle is within the 4.0 legal limit. Need to load vans? then 3 large vans, such as the Merceses Sprinter, Ford Transit or Econoline, can also be transported with the Auto Genesis, to do this, both upper decks can be lowered, this puts the van roof to 4m when loaded.

Older car transporters used mechanical levers situated on the side of the bodywork, the Autogenesis uses radio a remote-wander lead that can be plugged into the right or left hand side of the vehicle to put the operator in the safest location, and the drilled aluminium deck pannels give excellent grip surface for the operator when operating in the rain, increasing safety by reducing the slip risk and allowing the tyres of the vehicle being loaded to grip easier.

The decks are set to give a maximum height from the floor to the roof of a typical large car when loaded of 4.0 meters, whilst the overall length when loaded of 18m, with the vehicle itself having a travelling width of 2.5m, making it fully compliant with dimensions regulations.

The body of the Auto Genesis is fully demountable from the road tractor prime mover, enabling seperate maintainance of the road tractor to be carried out without taking the entire car transporter out of action, you simply demount the prime mover that has to be maintained and couple up a different tractor unit, this also goes for when the Auto frame itself needs to be maintained, it is simply driven to the garage where it is uncoupled from the tractor unit, this tractor unit is then able to work under another auto frame, or pull a regular semi trailer depending on your logistics requirement and so does not keep the entire unit off the road if one part of it has to go off the road for maintainance, thus saving you money as expensive equipment is not standing idle because one part of it is off the road.

With the cab being a development of the Mjolnir, Diamond star's high-spec European tractor unit, many of the features of the Mjolnir have been carried over to the smaller Magnox, this ranges from the intelligent use of the cab space inside, to the dashboard and control layout, such as the steering column mounted controls for the IntelliCruise transmission system, this keeps everything within easy reach of the driver, making for a comfortable and ergonomic workspace.

Seating is equally important, and the Magnox is no exception with leather seats as an option with though fabric seats come as standard. seat adjustment is fully electronic, controlled by a set of buttons on the inboard face of the seat base, adjustment includes reach, tilt, height, back-tilt, lumbar support, head-rest hight, angle and reach. These settings have up until now been the preserve of high end luxury cars like those produced by Mercedes-Benz.

Though the Magnox is designed for innercity distribution, rather than overnight long haul operations The Magnox is still fitted with an Ebascher night heater which when running uses less than 2 litres of fuel over an entire night, compared to an average of 2 litres of fuel an hour to idle the engine to provide heating. The main heater for the cabin is provided through an oil-radiator, though this works in the same manner as the heating system in water cooled engines. An optional flow system can be installed to allow the night heater to also heat up the oil for when working in severe climates, keeping the lubricant at an optimum temperature whilst the engine is shut down.

Getting too hot, we have that covered too, as the Mjolnir also has air conditioning as standard along with electric windows and sunroof, both of which are double glazed and heated for additional comfort, the sunroof is also controlled from the bunk space as well as a switch on both doors, so it isn't just the driver who has control over the sunroof.

Every morning, a driver is required to carry out a pre-shift check, to make this task easier, the USB active key has the ability to run through the light check function of the vehicle. As with its 6 wheel sister model, the usb key is tied in with the Satellite Navigation system, allowing the maps top be easily updated from a PC. As well as the manual oil dip stick to check oil levels, the Magnox comes with electronic sensors to check oil level, alerting low oil pressure or level to the driver by the central information display. This display is scrollable through a button on the steering wheel, and gives parameter information on:
Drivers Hours of Service (default)
Oil Level
Tyre pressures
Fuel consumption
Turbo boost pressure
Miles to next service

Turning the key, the display flashes up a welcome message, which can be driver programed, though the default reads "Welcome to Magnox". After the welcome message dissapears, it runs through a scroll of the oil level, tyre pressure, showing which tyre is being checked on a graphic, washer fluid level, miles to service. The next message reads "Ok to start" Once the engine is running, the Hours of service comes up. Information is displayed in 3 parts:

After 4 hours 15 mins, it alerts the driver that there is only 15 mins of driving time left. When break is selected on the digital tachograph unit, the timer starts ticking, displaying break time, however if the tachograph is taken off break or moved before 15 minutes, the timer is reset, as the minimum break on the default EU setting is 15 minutes. after a period of 45 minutes of break, the driving hours resets to zero ready for the second period of 4 hours 30 minutes. when the timer comes up to 9 hours, after a second 45 minute break, the timer goes to 60 mins and counts down. If there is no card in the digital tachograph, (which the display is linked), it flashes up "!CARD!" telling the driver that there is no card in the digital tachpgraph.

The Diamond Star Magnox comes equipped with Intellidrive, which is Diamond Star's intelligent cruise control system that adapts to the changing conditions on the road by using sensors around the vehicle to maintain safe proximity to the vehicle in front, so when activated it will maintain a 3 second gap to the vehicle in front. That is the safety aspect, the other aspect of the system is the use of Global Positioning System technology to predict the road and terrain ahead. On the flat it selects a gear that means that no more than 70% power is being used to maintain a given speed, but as the truck approaches a hill, the system initiates a gearshift to put the truck into the optimum gear for the climb and applies power to send the truck up the hill. As it gets close to the top of the hill, the on board computer, using GPS data changes back to the original gear the truck was in before the hill was climbed, then eases off the power at the optimum time to enable the trucks own momentum to carry the truck over the crest, applying power once back on the flat.

When the truck is approaching a bend, the system will back off the power and allow the trucks own momentum to carry the truck as the driver negotiates the bend, however if the entrance speed is going to be too high for the bend in question, Intellidrive will initiate the activation of the exhaust brake and excecute a downshift operation to gently slow the truck to a speed safe enough for the driver to negotiate the bend. activation of the engine brake and downshift takes place at a point prior to the bend and can change depending on approach speed so that the vehicle is at the correct speed to safely negotiate the bend when it reaches the bend, once the obstacle has passed the the truck under Intellidrive cruise control will begin to accellerate gently back to its original speed, taking the best gear pattern according to the terrain to get the optimum fuel economy, furthermore the GPS system is also able to adjust the set speed depending on changes of the posted speed limit though remembering the drivers setting, so when the truck passes back into a higher speed limit area Intelldrive will return to the original speed set by the driver when the frontal sensors detect that it is safe to do so.

Active Brake Assist
Active Brake Assist is designed to prevent a driver inadvertently causing a rear-end shunt, by detecting slow moving traffic or stationary traffic, Active Brake Assist uses the same sensor system for the distance keeping operation of the Intellidrive, however it is always active. When the system detects that the truck is in a situation where it is at risk of having a rear-on collision, the brakes are automatically applied along with the hazard warning lights, decelerating the truck in full emergency stop conditions. With the brakes being anti-skid in operation, braking ability of the Mjolnir 25RX is of the higherst performance, capable of hauling the 44,000kg Mjolnir to a dead stop from 100km/h in 20m less distance than older models.

Blind Spot Proximity
Due to their size, large commercial vehicles despite having frontal mirrors, kerb mirror on the near-side, and wide angle mirrors will always have significant blind spots, The Blindspot proximity Alert system gives the driver eyes where normally there is no vision, this means that lane changes stand to become a safer place as sensors down each side of the truck detect and alert the driver to an obstruction in the lane that the driver wishes to join, severely reducing the chances of the driver side-swiping another vehicle.

Reversing too has become a lot safer as there is also now a standard rearward camera and reversing radar system, so even when the truck is at 90 degrees to the trailer, and so the driver having no vision through the mirrors to what is behind the cab, and to the far side of the trailer, the Mjolnir's Blind Spot Proximity has that coved too, making the yard a safer location, and with a frontal sensor system, the Mjolnir has 360 degree coverage.

When an obstruction is detected by the sensors, an audible tone is sounded in the cab and the dash display alerts the driver to the location of the obstruction, whether it be a car that has not noticed the indicators flashing or a piece of debris or a pallet that is down the side of the trailer, out of mirror view. Operating the blindspot proximity system is remarkably simple as the sideways warning is linked to the turn signals, and the 360 system is linked to the 4-way hazard lights, a second set of sensors also works on the height of the vehicle and is set for 4.2m to give sufficient clearance above the car transporter

Introducing the Diamond Star Solaris Sports Soarer, a state of the art hybrid sailplane brings a new level of technology to the field of sports gliding.


So what is it all about, well that is pretty simple, the sole purpose of the Sports Soarer is to provide a feel of flight that is almost true to nature, virtually free from the sounds of a motor apart from when taking off under its own power or running the onboard electric motors to gain additional altitude after loosing a thermal or updraft as the Solaris is designed to ride the wind. This is acheived by having a set of highly efficient wings that not only carry you aloft but carry on board a set of lithium-ion batteries in the wing core and a set of photo voltaiic cells on the upper surface which when combined, allow the two electric ducted fan motors to run for around 30 minutes at maximum power before the batteries need to be recharged which thanks to onboatd charging electronics can be done with the plane aloft on a sunny day and such a day will generally give you the best thermals, keeping you aloft for hours as you enjoy the feedom of flight.

Once airborne, you can choose to fly in the way a sail plane was intended by seeking thermals and updrafts in order to gain altitude and keep you aloft or you can cruise sedately under the power of the two 25kw electric motors which at take off draw upto 160amps from the onboard batteries in order to get the aircraft aloft but at altitude the high power demands are not needed, allowing the Solaris to cruise comfortably between 70 and 100 knots under its own power on just the solar pannels and reach a maximum speed of 150km/h under electric power. In particularly mountainous areas and locations with good thermals, you can choose to switch the two electric motors off, thereby allowing the solar cells to go about charging the batteries whilst you surf on the air currents provided by nature, here you can reach speeds up to 170 knots in almost complete silence.

Safety
In the event of the aircraft going into a terminal spin, behind the cockpit the Solaris is equipped with a spin recovery parachute which when deployed allows the aircraft to safely decend to the ground and make a soft landing. To protect the occupants of both the single seat and tandem seat models, the cockpit is made up of a reinforced titanium-alumimium alloy crash structure which provides a safety cell for the occupants in the event of a crash landing.

Like many powered aircraft, the Solaris is also equipped with a full stroboscopic light system providing dorsal, ventral, stern and wingtip lights as well as landing lights, this therefore allows the aircraft to be seen in dusk or the pre-dawn light as the pilot may have chosen to land late in the evening or possibly under full electric power after the sun has set, or wish to take off before the sun has risen in order to make the most of the conditions that have been forecast, as such he or she may be flying in relatively low light, as such to make the aircraft visible LED lights have been installed.

I saw your topic about the ''Diamond Star'' cars and trucks and i would like to buy the ''Diamond Star Eco-Genesis refrigerated trailer'', it is for me the perfect truck because it runs on solar power and the fosile fuel cars are banned from my nation. (Read factbook for more information) The only thing i would like to chaged for the major import of these trucks in our nation is the 1200 CC diesel generator, because it is not needed in our nation. Dear Sir, the Eco Genesis trailer, costing $60,000 with the generator can however be sold minus the generator, this will reduce the price to $50,000. Diamond Star canhowever replace the generator if you wish for one designed to run alcohol based fuel, though the regular diesel generator will happily run on rapeseed oil and recycled cooking oil sourced biodiesel with no modification. Furthermore ANY diesel engine produced by Diamond Star will run without conversion on biodiesel.

Diamond Star LCR

Diamond Star's LCR is a modern 5 section light rail consist that is designed to carry its passengers in confort and safety, featuring 4 plug doors for entry and exit, these located in cars 1, 2, 4 and 5. These wide doors enable easy access for wheelchair users, and for stops at ground level, an extending ramp is also installed in the suspended cars, (no2 and no4 car), making wheelchair access as easy as a regular low floor bus.

The 12x 60kw traction motors with pulsed digital control are what give the LCR its smooth and rapid accelleration, allowing for shorter overall journey times as the LCR can get up to the line speed quicker than traditional designs, whilst all round LED lighting, both internal and external means the LCR uses less power than older designs, despite having higher power traction motor, resulting on a lower power load on the electrical supply. On board batteries provide up to 24 hours back up lighting, whilst providing 1km of off-wire range. During braking, the LCR uses a combination of anti skid disc brakes and electromagnetic resistance braking. ERB braking utilises the traction motors during deceleration, providing smooth fade free braking in all weathers.

Part of what gives the LCR its smooth ride is electronically controlled air suspension which is fully independent, thanks to the LCR not having solid beam axles like older tram designs, this means that the LCR does not suffer from flange squeal like larger passenger trains, this makes the train quieter for the passengers and for residents of houses that are close to the lines that the LCR will be operating on, allowing for resident-friendly night operations.

The cabin of the LCR comes in light colours and is fully double glazed, and thanks to LED lighting, the cabin has a relaxed feel to it, whilst the light coloured grab rails mean they are easy to spot. Each grab rail has a call to stop button, allowing passengers to alert the driver that they intend to alight, and for tramway systems that use electronic tickets, like the Transport For London "Oyster card" system, E-card receivers can also be installed allowing passengers to "touch in" and "touch out" as they get on and get off, making the job of the tram car conductor easier.

Seats in the LCR are designed to provide passengers with a high degree of comfort yet be be vandal proof, available with either fabric or plastic coverings, allowing for easy cleaning when out of service at the end of the working day, and for passenger safety each one can be fitted with either a grab pole or grab handle, and with wide plug doors the LCR has excellent wheelchair access at platform level, and for stops that are at street level a ramp is also installed, making it easier for wheelchair users to get on and off. Operation of this is done by pressing a single button by the door, allowing passengers to use the ramp rather than the attendant. When deployed and the doors start to close, the design of the ramp means that it will not interfere with the doors. The doors close first then the ramp will retract. Once closed the brakes are handed back to the driver and so preventing the driver pulling away from the stop with the ramp in the deployed position. The design of the ramp also puts its hydraulics underneath.

To keep the internal temperature comfortable, the LCR uses a combined Air conditioning / heating system which blows warm or cold air through vents in the cabin ceiling, though rather than constantly pulling in air from outside, the system dehumidfies and recirculates cabin air allowing for a smaller air conditioning matrix to be installed. This smaller matrix means that the air conditioning system uses less energy than larger units of older genereration tram cars.

At each end of the LCR's passenger sections, a scrolling LCD display can be specified giving details of the next stop as well as displaying security information, this scrolling display will also display [TRAIN STOPPING] when a passenger presses the call to stop button, informing passengers that the tram they are on is about to stop. This message will returning to its scrolling data format once the doors open. And for further assistance a PA system which can also be set to play calming music on a loop is also fitted as standard.


As with all Diamond Star commercial highway products, the LCR is equipped with a distance sensing proximity system, which in the case of the LCR is linked into the digital control system, however its operation is the same, preventing the LCR from getting to close to the vehicle in front when operating on shared roadway areas where the tramway rails run down city streets and so the LCR is sharing its space with normal city traffic. Also during peak operations, LCR units can also link up to form of 2 trams driven by one driver, just like how heavy rail commuter trains can form up to join one train.

There are two cockpit options for the LCR. When in single sided mode, the rear cockpit becomes the conductors station, having a seat and a hard box along with recording stations for the CCTV that is equipped as standard, however the LCR can also be purchased as a dual sided unit with doors on both sides of the consist, this is done by rotating sections 2 and 4 by 180 degrees, in this mode the two cockpits are completely identical, allowing the consist to not require a turnaround loop at each end. Designation of the dual sides unit is LCR-B, the "B" meaning Bi directional controls.

Mjolnir 25RX recieves VLT

Diamond Star is proud to announce that VLT Automotive will be supplying engines for the Diamond Star Mjolnir 25RX, This means that operators who demand Overhead cam style engines in their trucks now have another option to take up in the form of the Diamond Star Mjolnir 25RX. Initial offerings are two inline six engines which like the FTR and R-series range of Sleeve Valve engines fitted with Selective Catalytic Reduction, Ad-Blue injection and exhaust particulate filtration systems to enable them to conform to EEV certification.

The Astholm production site will be responsible for production of the VLT powertrain variants of the Mjolnir 25RX, and if the demand continues, the VLT engines will be expanded to the Magnox II and other models depending on customer requirements.
