Hyperion Dynamics was founded by the four Hyperion brothers back in the 1800's. Back when life was tough and people generally weren't happy with their lives. The four brothers, in their pursuit of a better quality of life, found that technology was the best way to make everyones' lives more comfortable and efficient. To begin with, they began to build things such as electronics, and sold them locally under the brand name "Hyperion Sons". As their business grew, they were contracted to set up power and phone lines across the reaches, and also oversee the construction of new power plants and transformers at sites previously set up.

During this period, Hyperion grew to a few thousand, as permanent workers were hired to complete the huge task of powering The Western Reaches. They began to explore new ways to appeal to the population such as the mining of the rich rare-metal ore deposits down south. They also began to produce arms under a subsidiary called "Hyperion Arms". Seeing as there was no competition, the growth of Hyperion was fast and brutal to say the least. When the four original brothers eventually all died out, their various sons and daughters sought to continue the legacy that had modernized the West that had been called "savage" for so long.

Trade continued, and nobody was upset with the monopoly that Hyperion had over the entire region because they remained fair with their pricing and never saw reason to overcharge when there was no good reason to. But that all changed around the turn of the 21st century.
Hyperion had funded a few wars in its time, but none could compare to the civil war that crippled the population and could probably be to blame for the current state of the reaches. It was a long tedious war over resources, as Hyperion was mostly spread out by now and was controlled by two different CEO's, both of which wanted full control over the platinum mines of The Western Reaches. The Western Hyperion family was crushed by the fierce nature of the Eastern military corps that would later be dubbed the "Desert Lance". As the stragglers of the Hyperion corporation were bound back underneath the Eastern flag, Hyperion made sure that such an event would not be possible again in the future by deploying a strong military-police presence in residential areas.

The state of The Western Reaches was worsened by the "Red Hammer Invasion" by the Edin Bolshevik Union which tore gaping holes in Lance protection and opened the far Southern mines up to the communists. That war still rages quietly today, sucking most of Hyperion's resources and attention away from the citizens, while the Lance's corruption grows further North and citizens are afraid of their restless behaviour.

Platinum is a dense, malleable, ductile, and very precious metal which has many practical uses if you can afford it. Platinum is interesting because it falls under the noble metal category for its high resistance to corrosion even at extreme temperatures, which makes it a very sought-after material. The problem, usually, is its price and scarcity. Platinum is one of the rarest elements on the planet with an estimated abundance of just 0.005 mg/kg. This makes it unattainable for practical uses such as machinery parts and electronics.

Hyperion however, has a huge industry in this element because of a bit of luck and a lot of work. The Western Reaches has a rather abundant supply of this "silver gold" which backed up by Hyperion's innovative mining strategies and sheer workforce, makes for a happy customer at the end of the day with our incredible pricing.

Titanium

Titanium evokes the thought of pure strength just at the mention of its name, renowned for its incredible strength-to-weight ratio of around 6300 psi, which is equal to common steel except for the fact that Titanium is 45% lighter. Titanium is a poor conductor and is non-magnetic, and machining needs to be done carefully to prevent softening the metal. It is great as a flexible building resource, with high strength and elasticity perfect for earthquake-proofing your buildings.

With Titanium, Hyperion sells a 92% pure alloy with iron and a small amount of carbon. Unrefined ore can be purchased and a different grad of titanium or ferrotitanium can be ordered for only a small extra cost listed below. Mining of Titanium in The Western Reaches has been slow, and although prices have been creeping down, there is little hope for any more large deposits to be found and the future of Hyperion's Titanium industry is in question. So buy it now while it's still on the market!

Steels

Carbon steel is a low-grade steel and the cheapest we have to offer here at Hyperion. It is made up mostly of Iron, with a small percentage of Carbon that defines the grade of the steel. We sell three different grades with different percentages of carbon content. Carbon steel is great for tools for wood-working and machinery, such as automotive engines and bodies. It is relatively soft, which is an advantage because it can be sharpened or forged easily, and makes for safely crumpling bumpers on cars.

It is however not recommended for vital building structures or structures that require a high stiffness, because carbon steel is quite flexible and although it makes great wires and woodwork tools, it does not have a high stress threshold.
We do however sell a hardened carbon steel, heat-treated to 62c hardness which cannot be sharpened with a file and instead a grinding stone is needed for resharpening. This variation is much stronger and is safer to use for tougher tools and hardier engines, although it's improved strength costs a little extra.

There is also a bar form sold by Hyperion, for investment of credit in the steel industry or for jeweling purpose. It is of quite a high grade but treatment is needed if it is to be used for construction purposes.

Stainless Steel is a classic and fashionable building material, and is incredibly stain and rust resistant, depending on the grade, determined by the treatment and percentage of Chromium content. Low grade stainless steel is a great indoor or mild environment building material, such as interior features or weather-protected structures in a building. High grade stainless steel is suited to a harsh, exposed environments where the steel will be in direct contact with weathering and damage.

A minimum Chromium content of around 13% to prevent staining and rusting in an exposed environment, whereas in incredibly harsh environments a percentage of up to 26% may be needed. This is because Chromium, being non-reactive, is the deciding factor in the stain-resistance of the steel, and prevents the Iron from oxidizing.

Foreword

Hyperion Dynamics, being the realistic and cost-effective company that it is, recognizes the need for very cheap life-contracted labour as a means of powering an economy. Some would call them slaves, but we would call them the workhorses of greatness, the army of construction, the people who have quite literally given their lives to be a part of the greater good. Denial of the fact that the life-contracted labourer does more good than harm is an outdated viewpoint, regurgitated by someone every now and then in an attempt to promote anarchistic "freedom".

The workforce need a boost? Your company lacking numbers? Look no further! Hyperion offers contracts for healthy general labourers, who've been cleared of diseases and dangerous medical conditions so there's nothing to worry about. All you need to know is that they're super-cheap!
We recommend the "general labour" contracts for those looking for a brute force attack on a large task. These workers are best in large numbers, perhaps for a creative vote-rigging scheme or just a pyramid to bury you're recently deceased leader. Hard Labourers

Hard labour eh? Quite a dramatic title. But seriously, these guys are the tough ones. Sure they're not too cheap, but they're a one-off cost and can handle almost any job you throw at them. The "Hard Labour" category of life-contractors is basically a fancy way of saying the best of the bunch. The strongest and most motivated are selected from the applicants are placed in this category, so hard work is assured with every labourer. Recommended for ongoing building jobs, security, or hell even as a damn soldier. The Hard Labourers have received a certificate of physical excellence by Hyperion testers, and a retesting can be done on buyer's request.
