The history of the Empire of Layarteb begins in 1980 but Layarteb's history itself spans all the way back to 2000 B.C. when the first settlers moved into Layarteb. Until 1157 A.D., Layarteb was ruled underneath the Dominion of Tnemrot and independence was finally recognized in 1215 A.D., after a 57 year war for independence. From then until 1458, Layarteb remained a loose confederation of its four main tribes: Scythes, Grunts, Vandals, and Ontarians. The First Layartebian Civil War began in early 1458 after Scythian leaders moved the Layartebian capital to Layarteb City, which was in Scythian territory. Disagreement over a number of issues led to an attack against the Scythes by both the Grunts and Vandals on a cold, February morning in 1458. The war lasted all the way until December 4, 1791, when the Scythe's declared absolute victory over the remaining tribes and proclaimed the Republic of Layarteb. Between 1791 and the 1940s, the Republic of Layarteb prospered and grew facing very few actual wars and each one resulting in absolute victory for the Layartebians. However, as the 1950s and 1960s came, the Republic of Layarteb grew into an overly corrupt state with a government that was led by ineffective, inept, and corrupt leaders that favored themselves more than their constituents.
In 1967, the Republic of Layarteb became involved with the First Venezuelan Civil War. During the near ten years, resistance to the government and the war grew at home and it culminated in a wave of terrorist in 1976 by the Red Army Faction, a Marxist revolutionary group that caused significant damage to the country and killed thousands of people. They were ultimately defeated by military action but those who fought against the RAF were betrayed by the government. Opposition to the government grew and in 1977, the Second Layartebian Civil War broke out and caused the immediate and full withdrawal of Layartebian forces from Venezuela. In total, 23,940 soldiers were killed and an additional 16,800 were wounded in the ten years that the Republic found itself at war. The Second Layartebian Civil War was horrific and lasted from 1977 until July 4, 1980. The Republic and its government had fallen and many of its leaders were tried for crimes committed during their tenure and imprisoned or exiled. Some were executed. The Empire of Layarteb was declared shortly after the fall of Layarteb City on July 4 and the newly installed Emperor announced that the Empire would be an authoritarian republic. On the local level, such as towns, cities, counties, and states, the people would be able to elect their leaders through direct, democratic elections. At the federal level though, there would be no elections. In essence, the Emperor declared himself a dictator for life. The government instituted a policy of freedom and responsibility. Save for federal elections, the freedoms the Layartebian people experienced underneath the Republic of Layarteb were not repealed. Then, on February 16, 1981, the Conquests began. Over the next twenty-six years, the Empire of Layarteb expanded from under 200,000 mi² to nearly 6,000,000 mi² and expanded its population to nearly 1,310,000,000 people. By 2009, the Empire was up to 1,325,000,000 people.
Throughout the majority of the Empire's brief history, the Emperor had enjoyed approval ratings over ninety percent. The lowest had been in the fifties during the War in Kaliningrad, which led to a Layartebian defeat. Regardless, by 2005, this was back up to the high eighties and low nineties and it peaked to nearly ninety-six percent after the Conquests were declared over at Fleet Week in 2007. Unfortunately, elements existed within the Empire who pushed for a return to democracy all around and a return to a republic. These grew and a new wave of domestic terrorism began in 2005 with the introduction of the Republican Liberation Army. They were defeated by the end of January 2006 thanks mainly to military and police action against them. However, the RLA were minor and back and financed by a much bigger and much more powerful, global group known as the Illuminati. The Illuminati itself would be composed of only men due to its formation from within the Freemasons, the world's oldest fraternity. Good natured by heart and dedicated to charity, relief, and the ideals of liberty, the Freemasons were their own entity. The Illuminati was mainly composed of people within the Freemasons who weren't, by nature, good hearted and dedicated to charity, relief, and the ideals of liberty. Centuries old, the Illuminati, a global reaching organization, were the financiers of the RLA and many more groups as the years progressed. An organization with unlimited reach and near limitless funds, the Illuminati was controlled by a group of thirteen men known as Majestic. Majestic was dedicated to the destruction of the Empire and a return of the Republic and had been the ones to orchestrate the dawn of the RLA and mostly every other domestic terrorist act since 2005. They funded enemies abroad and created a revolutionary mind set. Now, they loom, aiming to complete the revolution that they started...
