IC Structure:
The Western Reaches, one of the biggest deserts in the history of the world, is well... a desert. It has been through enough wars and civil wars to kill a weaker country. The Western Reaches is far from dead though, and technology from the prestigious Sweetwater city and its Hyperion Arms factory pours out across the land, giving much needed improvements to faulty machinery and equipment.
Unable to turn The Western Reaches into anything but a massive mining enterprise, the government had to sell out to the Hyperion mining corporation and hand over administrative power to them and them alone. This has meant an influx in the mining industry and a boom in trade. The Hyperion Corporation set up a massive trade network that allowed everybody to have a slice of the riches, but neglected to make laws or restrictions over anything they sold or anything else for that matter.
Now in anarchy, several factions became apparent, with their own governments and laws. Their little wars brought more death to the desert, and more money to the Hyperion fat-cats. Finally Hyperion Arms stepped up and recreated the Desert Lance, using their new military power to fortify cities crucial to trade, and have a presence in wars that were beneficial to their pocket.
Strong men are dying every day fighting for their faction, fighting for survival, fighting so that they may wake up to a better tomorrow. Death is almost a currency out there.
This is where you come in. Being a mercenary these days is a good trade, and you're never out of work. On the small side of things you have jobs to accept, friends to make and enemies to kill. But on a grand scale you have somewhere to fit in. All of the factions need healthy fighters like you, and it's up to you to choose which is the most righteous or the most beneficial to you. But maybe that's not your style, you could always go it alone; you'd have no burdening responsibilities, but no back up either.

These guys are part of the old Western Reaches military. They're ex-marines most of them and are still under "government" authority. They keep the peace at most of the larger cities and protect the old Hyperion Arms factory. Do not try your luck with these soldiers as they're trained in hand-to-hand combat and have advanced weapons training.
Their only downside is the lack of variation in their weaponry. It has remained standard due to tight Hyperion budgets and rules against improvised weaponry in the military. Also the tactics they use are incredibly cookie-cutter, often not suiting the task at hand. There have been rumours of corruption among the remaining government figures and the Lance. Citizens have been reported to have been beaten, stabbed, shot and even sometimes killed by Desert Lance Marines, although no one can prove or dares to prove this to anyone they don't know.
Due to the deterioration of The Western Reaches, the Lance is now hiring anyone they can lay their hands on, with great rewards for highly skilled fighters to come forward.
Purpose: Protect large cities and fight off the Red Hammer Invasion.

There's always someone willing to fight super-corporations, and the Fremway Resistance is prime example of what happens when these people get together. This Faction is incredibly road focused, believing that if they can block Hyperion trade routes and destroy Desert Lance patrols that they can bring down the corporates and restore democracy to The Western Reaches. Although they are pro-democracy, they get their way through unlawful means and really they are a gang of anti-corporate activists instead of freedom fighters. The Fremway Resistance commands some of the most powerful land vehicles in The Western Reaches, and their "Raider" class combat motorcycles are surprisingly efficient at dispatching of foot patrols and other unarmoured vehicles.
The communists of the Edinbourgh Bolshevik Union that have pushed at the border of The Western Reaches for years have finally found the opportunity to seize some of the lower mines and the towns that surround them. The Red Hammer Invasion, although slow moving, poses a threat to the Hyperion Corporation because of their obsession with Western Reaches mines. The communism in the south past the border is fueled by the captured mines and refineries. The Hyperion Corporation was prepared to lose the very southern towns such as Jaynistown and Headstone Mine to the reds, but now that the Communists push further North they have engaged them in large-scale warfare. Civilions stay well away from the Red Hammer/Hyperion front because of the sheer scale of battle taking place there. Luckily the front hasn't moved in the past year so much of The Western Reaches is communist-free, but the threat still exists.

The WDR initially started off as a group of gunslingers with a deadly aim that gathered more and more followers as their name spread throughout The Western Reaches. They utilize specialized equipment to make them one of the deadliest forces around, reducing the need of large numbers by creating a sufficient distance between themselves and the enemy. They are made up mostly of mercs who each have individual values, so don't be too trusting of any one member.
Purpose: Maintain their own autonomy from other factions and maintain their values. Strive and survive, that's the name of the game.

A battalion that has its origins in Vortiaganica, they are under strict orders to survive at any cost. Someday, they are to secure the area, and form a colony. They have no idea what is happening at home, or indeed if home exists.The battalion is still a young group.

Beginnings of this faction started with an unlikely friendship between a intelligent, psycho-pathic pyromaniac, and a Serious, Fear-less veteran, both of whom were dishounorably discharged. Fisk had slaughtered his entire squad and then disappeared, much to the astonishment of his superior officers, and was never captured and brought to justice for his war crimes. Unwilling to list him as KIA or MIA (considering they didn't want him list as one of theirs), they merely dishonourably discharged him. Sean, his faithful companion he met while hiding, was also discharged from the army of his country (Ireland), when he got in a drunken brawl with his ranking officer, Lt. Fitzgilligan, where the Lt. was killed. Strings were pulled and Sean managed to escape, with only a dishonourable discharge to marr his record.
Purpose: Former soldiers, now private contractors for hire, working for money and a untarnished reputation

Backstory: Duskeye, Incorporated, is an exclusive and prestigious private military company which has come to the Western Reaches on several contracts. One, a private individual has hired them to provide the firepower for his own mining corporation which hopes to at least seize a small turf for itself amid all of the other pre-established factions and groups. Two, they are to carve out their own territory in addition to providing security for this one mining corporation in particular. They are willing to compromise with established factions and will work as mercenaries on side-contracts, as long as it does not interfere with their original purposes. Duskeye Mercenaries can be very offensive, and if it comes to attacking another faction to take it's territory, then they will. The PMC will provide, at any given time, reinforcements if heavy losses are suffered. Armored trucks and helicopters are the only vehicles that the Duskeye operatives have.

Point Allocation:
You will be able to allocate a total of 100 points into the following categories, and although you will receive more points as you progress, each skill has a maximum of 100 points that can be allocated to it:
- Firearm Proficiency
- Melee Proficiency
- Engineering
- Diplomacy
- Fitness
- Medical Proficiency
Don't worry, having low points in a certain category will not exclude you from doing tasks related to that skill. All it means is that the outcomes of using a skill with high points will be more beneficial to your character than if they have low points. Also, don't think that having full weapon proficiency will make your character invincible. They will be less fit, be unable to heal themselves effectively, and will be unable to bargain for their life.
Posting as your character:
You will post saying what your character is doing, but I, ME, The Western Reaches, will tell you the conclusion of those actions. Don't think of this as your story being cut by me, but as your opportunity to try mold your story around some new and interesting outcomes. (Trust me, I will give you a shitload of plot catalysts and enough ammunition to defend yourself).
For example you will say "Brad dug around in an old chest over by a large rock" and I will reply "Brad found a knife."
or "Brad stabbed the bandit in the chest." and I will say "The Bandit spat blood and spluttered something inaudible before falling to the ground, dead." (Obviously posts will have more detail and story to them than those examples.)
This concept is to prevent godmodding, and make sure that a third party has control over the things that could make or break your character.

When it comes to other people,Lark will either sell you out for the clothes on your back or drag you out of hell himself. It really depends how important you are to him. He is also known to scavenge in very dangerous places for the untold riches they contain, and is known to cause bar fights in order to skip out on the tab. Backstory:Vega joined the elite 22nd Infantry Division after his military training was complete, with the rank of private. His famous father caused him plenty of problems: several of his fellow soldiers (especially Tera Gallagher, who was promoted at the same rate Vega was) believed he was able to join the elite division only due to nepotism, despite his very high training scores. His tough but fair superior officer, Major Hastings, treated him the same as any other soldier. Gallagher gave him the nickname 'Puke' after he pulled a prank on Golden, a soldier who was a notoriously paranoid hypochondriac, and gave him pills that caused him to vomit. Initially, Vega hated this name, but later he chose to keep it because it reminded him of Golden, who had died in battle.
Vega had joined the Division the same day that Cod unleashed a devastating attack against the GDFS Philadelphia. He was in a real war now. His first assignment was to help repel a Cod invasion of New San Diego. The invasion was small, but Cod managed to capture an important GDF scientist, Joseph Takeda, putting him under the control of Captain Al-Rashan, a skilled interrogator. Due to helmet problems because of his large head, and some luck, Vega saw and stopped an ambush. With his natural shooting talent, Vega and his friend Private Alessio "Dish" Bowles recovered the scientist and captured two Cod personnel, Corporal Hugh Isembi and Private Voyskunsky. For these actions, Vega was promoted to Sergeant. This was a startling promotion, one that Vega was not entirely ready for. Battle Commander Michael McNeil promoted Vega because so many sergeants had died, because GDF needed heroes, and also because he respected his father. Major Hastings was not happy about this, as McNeil didn't have a full understanding of the role luck and natural talent played in Vega's heroics (compared to his soldier skills).
During the war, Vega was promoted rapidly. After New San Diego, he was deployed to Madijascar and was promoted to Lieutenant, then in Australia he was promoted to Captain. He dared to use the Dr. Takeda's new Tiberius-based EW1 in the fight against Cod, a fortunate decision as they were extremely useful in the fight against the surprise Scringe attacks as well. He also managed to gain the respect of Gallagher.

After Vega ordering his squad into position and the order was given, they neutralised the Cod soldiers and captured the scientist's after 20 seconds of battle. Vega then approached the command consol and saw a timer of Approximately 2 seconds, in order to preserve the life of everyone involved he shot the console and ordered evacuation his squad and the scientist's. he was stunned to see one of the captive scientists fight his way through his men and shoot Vega before anything could be done. after that the portal opened and while producing effects similar to a "black hole", sucked in both the armed scientist and Vega before closing completely. Ares gun-ships and G3-A's along side other GDF personnel arrived on scene and began interrogations after receiving coordinates and sit-rep on an unknown and untraceable call.

Backstory:Vega joined the elite 22nd Infantry Division after his military training was complete, with the rank of private. His famous father caused him plenty of problems: several of his fellow soldiers (especially Tera Gallagher, who was promoted at the same rate Vega was) believed he was able to join the elite division only due to nepotism, despite his very high training scores. His tough but fair superior officer, Major Hastings, treated him the same as any other soldier. Gallagher gave him the nickname 'Puke' after he pulled a prank on Golden, a soldier who was a notoriously paranoid hypochondriac, and gave him pills that caused him to vomit. Initially, Vega hated this name, but later he chose to keep it because it reminded him of Golden, who had died in battle.
Vega had joined the Division the same day that Cod unleashed a devastating attack against the GDFS Philadelphia. He was in a real war now. His first assignment was to help repel a Cod invasion of New San Diego. The invasion was small, but Cod managed to capture an important GDF scientist, Joseph Takeda, putting him under the control of Captain Al-Rashan, a skilled interrogator. Due to helmet problems because of his large head, and some luck, Vega saw and stopped an ambush. With his natural shooting talent, Vega and his friend Private Alessio "Dish" Bowles recovered the scientist and captured two Cod personnel, Corporal Hugh Isembi and Private Voyskunsky. For these actions, Vega was promoted to Sergeant. This was a startling promotion, one that Vega was not entirely ready for. Battle Commander Michael McNeil promoted Vega because so many sergeants had died, because GDF needed heroes, and also because he respected his father. Major Hastings was not happy about this, as McNeil didn't have a full understanding of the role luck and natural talent played in Vega's heroics (compared to his soldier skills).
During the war, Vega was promoted rapidly. After New San Diego, he was deployed to Madijascar and was promoted to Lieutenant, then in Australia he was promoted to Captain.
