Coalition People's Warship 'Ark Hammer', Alpha Quadrant, 100 Light Years north of Sol.
The Ark Hammer, a Moscow Class Battleship, yet this one was not designed for Combat, this was one of the very few Battleships retrofitted for Scientific endevours, many of the rooms that normally housed Combat Material now were home to multiple laboratries. Hundreds were working on the ship and not just mere scientists, but Black Armoured Soldiers, members of the Commissariat's Security Force, but their intentions were not to guard the scientists, but to keep them in line.
Lab IV, Special Warfare Division
A grey-haired man stared calmly at a large tank filled with a clear fluid, within he could see his greatest creation, slowly comming together, for now it was simply a simple twisted mass of liquid-appearing metal, constantly twisting, forming small shapes that briefly extend from it's body. The Scientist was wearing a simple grey jump suit, like every other Kaderbian Scientist on the ship, his ice-blue eyes gazing from the tank to the various consoles lining the walls, each taking precise readings of the mass forming within.
He picked up a Datrapad and started talking, the pad automatically recording his voice.
"Day Fifteen, Project Icarus, the Nanites have come far since their initial activation, so far the Nanites have been cooporating in tandum with eachother and formed bonds which share energy and information between them, so far the rate of replication hasn't increased as of yet, but it will not be long before they have enough Nanites to begin forming humanoid shapes as programmed to do once they reach a critical mass for replication in the tank." he stated while sighing, leaning against a console carefully so he wouldn't trip any of the controls.
"On a side note, I still believe this project is a bad idea, at the rate the Nanites are learning I have no doubt they will be able to expand beyond the original programming set out by the Commissarait." he commented before an alarm sounded from his panel, looking towards the tank he turned absolutely pale, the Nanites were nolonger in the tank.
"Oh hell-" was all he managed to get out before he started to feel light-headed, within moments he had collapsed to the floor and struggled to breath, not much longer after that the Scientist breathed his last. All across the ship Kaderbians suddenly collapsed and suffocated to death due to the Nanites managing to infect the ship's systems.
The ship continued to drift...Until the Hyperspace Engines activated, sending the ship into a Hyperspace window, dropping from hyperspace it waited for it's engines to power down from possible overload due to stress upon them before it leapt into Hyperspace again, making small jumps until it reached it's destination, a small rogue asteroid rich in metals, it easily dwarfed the Ark Hammer, the ship carefully angled towards it and slowly decended towards the rock, settling down onto the surface, but not so gently as many of the lower decks were crushed by the surface of the asteroid. A stream of liquid-like metal dripped from multiple areas of the ship, burrowing deep into the Asteroid until it found what it sought...Rich deposits of raw metals...Slowly but surely it consumed them, covering the rock in a thin layer of Nanites which were being created by the conversion of the raw materials into usable materials for the Nanites to procreate...The Rock was not far from Sol, within a week it will have entered range of the planet, a whole world brimming with potential metals and other materials for the Nanites to procreate...They became aware of themselves...Their existance...And following the base programming of 'Replicate until All Materials Expended', they determined that was all that mattered, Replication.
