The Warzone Age of Rage II

Welcome to the roleplay thread of the Warzones. Chronically unstable, the Warzone countries can fight it out (or escape!) here. If you are a resident of a Warzone region, feel free to join the RP - or be left out.

This thread is both a continuation of the older one from last year and an extension of the new RP launched in Warzone Africa - be sure to check out the despatch in the WFE.

To join, simply write or put a link to a map in bold detailing your territory, and roleplay! In due course your place on the map will be secure on the RP map - link below. You can choose territories in the continent of your Warzone; Sandboxers and Airspacers may choose from any continent!

Though primarily Warzone-oriented, individuals who wish to RP together with the Warzones may do so. Please TG me or Warzone Malphe first.

The Democratic Republic of Perotasoa was at the crossroads on the path of history. Having grown massively out of its origin in the sands of Ogaden, the Perotasoan nation now ruled a vast territory in the Horn of Africa that spilt over into the Gulf of Aden all the way to the island of Socotra.

Or, to be more accurate, President Humphrey Bront ruled this vast territory. The former warlord had usurped power a decade earlier and had strengthened his autocracy, strangling the democratic elements of the state and making it his fiefdom. It was his idea to turn Perotasoa into a seafaring nation that would dominate the Indian Ocean, as well as control the Mandeb Straits one day. It was on his behest that funds went to the construction of a massive Perotasoan Navy in Mogadishu. And it was his insistence that had led to the budget being used almost exclusively for military purposes.

So when Socotran tribes raided the naval base on Socotra and burnt two Perotasoan destroyers, the reaction in the capital Jijiga was one of shock. The official line emanating from Bront's office was that a foreign power had supplied the Socotrans with arms, and that Perotasoa will duly take revenge against this aggression. But who was this power?

The civilian cabinet unanimously agreed (admittedly because Bront asserted so) that it must have been the Grand Duchy of Malphe who fomented rebellion among the Socotrans and who funded them. The old idea of dividing lawless, warzone-like Africa between the two powers in spheres of influence was back on the table. After much heated discussion, an emissary was despatched to the Malphean Embassy. If this could be achieved overnight, Jijiga should have a free hand in Socotra.

OOC: I'll take my traditional territory of fennoscandia. That comprises the combined territory of Norway, Sweden, Finland, and the northern part of European Russia. Link

IC:
Sector 1, Campbell City
0950 Hours Local Time

Campbell City was abuzz with activity as ever. Despite the civil defense drills, the curfews, and most recently the pandemic alert from the Ministry of Health, the people of Campbell City were primarily concerned with simply getting on with life. The Campbell Nation had rebuilt itself from scratch hundreds of times, and if worst came to worst, they could do it again.

Of course, it was unlikely to come to that. Thirty years since the revolution had brought the People's Defence Forces to the height of military power. The country was guarded by its massive navy and Air Force at sea, by the Aerospace Defence Group in orbit, and by a conscript army several times the population of most of the federation's border states. Perhaps most importantly, the Campbell Nation would not be going at it alone. In the years since the socialist revolution the Campbell Nation had reversed its isolationist foreign policy and had sought out new treaty allies. The Warzone Asia Socialist Pact had been ratified in Campbell City and now encompassed more than a dozen member states. All stood ready to commit troops to the cause of advancing socialism in the Warzones.

In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a telegram arrived. It was from the local observer in Perotasoa. Apparently there had been chatter about annexing most of Warzone Africa, using the destruction of two destroyers as a casus belli. It was probably nothing. Still, it had to be reported. It was the duty of the Campbell Nation as the paragon of socialist principles to stand up to this kind of imperialist aggression. A brief would be sent out to other members of WASP so that they could prepare accordingly.

On the Fence: Hate-Speech laws, Capital Punishment, Abortion, euthanasia, Involuntary quarantine
Socialist/Technocratic Parliamentary Federation. Very militaristic and scientific with a culture of persecution complex. Usually defensive, but won't hesitate to intervene for a worthy cause. Represented in the WA by North Campbell Nation

Story: A coup by the Madagascar armed forces had ended badly, very badly. For the several hours Hyppolite Ramaroson was in power, a socialist-libertarian party based in Madagascar known as "Worker's Freedom Party" (backed by The United Constituent Republics of The Libertarian State of Freedom) took power in the government and ousted the Military from power. The Libertarian State of Madagascar was born. They claim to be separate from the libertarian state of freedom, but everyone knows they are just a puppet state. News seems to be coming in of them planning an invasion of their neighbors, but that can't be true, right? Right? Somebody please tell me they aren't.

Horsell had a way of bringing things down around him; a sombre, depressing air surrounded him at all times. His green, rotten and mouldy eyes moved erratically but slowly, with a deep and permanent frown covering his face. His hair was grey and short, with a paralyzed mustache above his lip.

Having lead Malphe for 14 years, in the same state for every second of every year, it is no surprise that Horsell Campersitis was downright deathly by his last year in office. However, he ensured stability in his country; if only by brutally cracking down on rebels and other dissenters, even if he did tolerate free speech to an extent.

Despite keeping Malphe stable, Horsell didn't like change. In fact, he despised it. The proposal sent by Perotasoa some days before was denied without any formal declaration nor discussion; Horsell simply claimed it was only in the best interests of Perotasoa and ended it at that, leaving the Perotasoan diplomat in the dirt.

Date: 19 March 2009

Covering his mouth with his left hand and holding several, stacked pieces of paper with his right, Horsell tapped the large wooden table in front of him to call for his advisor, who promptly (and quickly) walked to his position. Horsell opened his mouth for two seconds preceding his sentence: "This Libertarian State, in Madagascar. I've been reading about it; that and Campbell up north. Ancian as well. However, the former concerns me most. I have heard the rumors regarding its expansionist government, hence notify my commanders regarding it. I will allow them to function autonomously, but tell them that I advise they move forces heavily closer to the east coast. Not blatantly so, however."

Horsell stopped for a breath.

"And ensure, might I add, that we know what they are up to. I won't function for long based on rumors. I don't care what it takes, just ensure that the intelligence agency understand that they are to function in the Libertarian State."

"And what if they discover our operatives?" The young advisor inquired.

"Don't question my methods, gentleman. You are young and Naive, I know how to function in the political environment, you do not. Now, ensure my orders are not taken lightly."

The advisor nodded, and set off to the nearest door, striding. Horsell went back to his books, of which were piled in the far left of the room.

Very quickly (almost suspiciously quickly) The Libertarian State of Madagascar (Referred to LSM from now on) had established a Red Army and a new flag. While the military general started threatening a much smaller nation known as Comoros with invasion, the government began looking at bigger, and much stronger targets.

But, a group of wealthy people and businessman within Madagascar began buying private military groups and formed the Pro-Business Party of Madagascar. While they were originally brushed off as a joke, they had quickly begun committing acts of terrorism and rebellion throughout the LSM. However, the Marxist government of the LSM had not lost any territory to these businesses and capitalists. Currently it is just referred as an "insurgency", not a "civil war".

"Rebels?" Horsell inquired. "Yes sir, for all intents and purposes." Replied his young, black combed hair adviser.

"Well-" Horsell groaned, "My young compatriot, the current regime in place there has shown before how it is aggressive, and do we favour communism?" "..- No?" "Right answer, though delayed. Methinks it could be very beneficial for us to fund these dissenters; imagine it, a grateful, capitalist nation to serve as our ally. Get weapons, preferably heavy, to those rebels whichever way possible-- m, tell that to the high rankers in our military. Wolfgang and the like."

"Yes sir." The young man left for the door to carry out the grand duke's orders.

Right in the middle of a national anthem singing in Saint Libra, a bomb was heard going off and people began to scatter. Because of the remoteness of the city, no police or military forces could make it there by the time they were too late.

They saw the flag of the LSM being burned, right in front of their eyes. They watched as the flag, referred to as "The Worker's Might" being torn and burned, and the flag of the new "Republic of Madagascar" was raised. The Red Army quickly devised a plan to take back Saint Libra. They had planned a modernized form of "Blitzkrieg" aka Lightning War, but this modernized version had a little thing too, called Foreign Support. Planes from the LSF came in from the north, while planes from the LSM came in from the south. The Republic of Madagascar however, had weapons behind both sides belief.

The Libertarian State of Freedom and Libertarian State of Madagascar kidnapped soldiers from the Republic of Madagascar and interrogated them. They both confessed "Malphe gave us weaponry! Please, we will tell you anything, just don't hurt my friends!" The soldiers were let go, because the two Libertarian States are still moral. They both have plans to punish the Malpheans in some way.

"I'm dissapointed beyond all belief, Wolfgang" echoed throughout the empty hall. "You gave weapons to these downright fools, nay, cowards? You are my most trusted general, yet you made such a fatal flaw?" Wolfgang, his service cap held to his waist, trembled. "Wolfgang, Commandant-General Wolfgang, I would demote you at this very point if it weren't for your dexterity in your role. I've no doubt that we will receive sanctions for your failure. War is not an impossibility, however."

Horsell coughed violently, "Mm. The LSF, its a communist regime. I was thinking we could use that as a reason to soften the foreign relations fall made by your failure, but that can't be good for relations with Campbell Nation. No, no; we must encourage good relations with the communists in the east, it is generally not preferable to go to war with them. However, to be sure, ensure that a large portion of the armed forces are on the east coast, even more so than before. Thank you, General. Be on your way, but- but don't fail me again."

"Yes, sir" Wolfgang muttered, with a quick salute, before hastily walking away to his office.

It had been days since anyone had heard from either libertarian state. They remained quiet because of what happened. Prime minister Nitup of the LSF told the leaders of the LSM "We need to think carefully about this. If we make the wrong decision, we could start a whole war with Malphe, and that could end catastrophically. Our options are performing espionage in their country, like they did to yours, block their trade ports, full war, or sanctions. Almost all of those could spark a conflict. Think about this hard, this could be worse than what happened in cuba." The LSM had made their choice. The whole navy force had moved to the west coast of Madagascar, and made a whole new option, plus trade embargos. They began sending DVD's of "The Dictator" over to Malphe, in an attempt to not actively engage in conflict, but insult them, without saying a word. The LSM plans to stop all trade with Malphe.

"So-" Horsell paused, "So, their grand plan is to send us films relating to our history? I suppose we should send them mean words inscribed on coloured paper! What on earth is this; this cannot be politics."

"Well, the message they want to get across is blatant. However, with such a mild response, they must not want war, eh? Issue nothing, say nothing, do not respond in any way, shape or form. They are going to go past the limit soon, I know it. And then, they will receive international condemnation. Without war, they have only to attempt to fund rebels or the like, as we did. We have no rebel problem for the time being, but they certainly could spark one."

"I digress, follow out on my orders." Horsell muttered as he shooed his adviser away with a hand movement.

The libertarians knew they had to act carefully. They had a strange plan, to invade the lands surrounding Malphe, and build small land on the east and west or use the navy to block ships in an attempt to starve the country into submission. One thing kept them both thinking away from this plan, and that was money. Because both libertarian states are socialist states (Or, communist) they have a lacking of money, because of slow economies. Or we can collect people that are having their homes destroyed by the rebellion, say homes will be their if they push this button, send them into Malphe as citizens, and we can't be held accountable since we would legally have nothing to do with it, as they were just refugees. In other news, the libertarian state of freedom has found large uranium deposits, with plans to mine all of it and use it for "peaceful purposes".
