Modern Chivalry: An Imperial Story(Nation Maintenance)

Nation Maintenance

"These are threads that are intended to catalog various events that might not be appropriate for a multi-author role-play or that might benefit from the short form but all are intended to focus on building and displaying the character (and characters) of a NationState." - Sunset

This thread is, of course, closed for anyone other than myself. The main purpose can simply be described in the above quote, however I may try to add my own twist to it. To make it unique and not only focus on the individuals of the nation I will perhaps add the status, history, and future of the state and all the etc. There will be grammatical errors and such, so bear with me. Have fun reading if you came here to do so.

The Beginning

Highrose 649 AD

A few Nilfgaardian soldiers pushed the shackled man forward within the thrones room of the palace. His seemingly lavish clothing was covered in blood as his body was dotted in bruises and gashes. The man then wiped blood from the tip of his mouth and kneeled before a woman sitting on her throne. Near her were several intimidating men that looked quite battle-hardened. The palace surrounding them was in ruins. It seemed quite large as to accommodate a large amount of nobles. Outside you could hear the peasantry rework on the exterior. The beaten up man looked up toward the crowned woman and finally mustered a sentence. “Your Highness. So nice to finally see you.” He said in a patronizing tone. The women stood up from her throne and walked down the steps toward the broken man, “Sir Ravyrd, the last surviving bloodline of House Maar. Decades ago your family slaughtered an entire council and murdered my grandfather. In confidence they ruled over people that despised them. Now everything your house has built is now in shambles.” Ravyrd gave off a bloodied cough. “Well, I suppose you wish he be put in the dungeon with the rest of the usurpers. Your Imperial Highness?” A Nilfgaardian officer suggested. The crowned women looked at Sir Ravard with a face of disgust. “Have him executed. As with the others, they await trial to Nilfgaardian law.” Several soldiers nodded and took Ravyrd away. The noble lady sat back into her throne, looking as if she was tired of these trivial chores. She looked onward toward the entrance that beamed with blinding light from the sun. Her emerald colored eyes reflected the sunlight, highlighting her soft-rosy face. A strand of her ashened silver hair fell near her right eye. The palm of her hand rested upon the side of her cheek. It looked as if space and time stopped all around her, capturing a perfect image.

This woman was Rosalyn Arcelia Issouvyr, her family’s background came from a multitude of imperial and royal houses that stretch back from Old Alyria, the Roszerian Empire, to Nilfgaard and Cirilla. A background that any nobleman would kill and die for at the time, however she particularly seemed not to like it. She was a curious and adventurous child. Her father was apart of a group of veteran nobles originating from the Commonwealth's Winged Cavalry - the Myrviicsii. Rosalyn seemed to be more keen on travel adventures with her father and them than squabble at the royal formalities bestowed upon her as a infant. As a young child she spent most of her time in the imperial courts of Nilfgaard with her mother. During that time, her father had mostly been away dealing either with the quests of the Myrviicsii’s or the Emperor’s. It wasn’t until she reached adolescence that her father finally stayed back with her and her mother. Rosalyn has begged her father to teach her the ways of the Myrviicsii. At first her mother and father refused as the steps of becoming one were not easy and worried it would hurt her. However, to much of the mother’s dismay, Rosalyn’s father had begun to teach her under the moonlight. At that time Rosalyn learned the trials and tribulations of becoming a fierce fighter like her father. Even other members of the Myrviicsii had trained her. Taking her along their journeys far and wide, putting her under their wing as well.

The Myrviicsii formed shortly before the establishment of the Cirillian Kingdom in 602 A.D. Where Olivaar Issouvyr, Rosalyn’s grandfather and a revered Councilmen of Cirilla, was murdered with the rest of the council. Lord Giiradyn overthrew the commonwealth and instituted a single kingdom. The head of each noble house was a councilmen within the Commonwealth. Giiradyn was the head of by far the largest house, House Maar, and levied a large amount of soldiers. Although House Maar was considered to be the largest and strongest, it was House Issouvyr that was quite respected and most influential among the people and nobles. Throughout the previous years, Lord Giiradyn had coerced, intimidated, bribed and even murdered other nobles to gain even greater power. All of this did not go unnoticed as two defining sides formed within the council between House Issouvyr and House Maar. Lord Olivaar powerhoused a decree that created the Myrviicsii as an act against Giiradyn’s rising power. Each and every noble part of the Myrviicsii vowed to relinquish their ties to their houses swore to fight for the Crownlands(Cirilla) as a whole. This was perhaps the first time Cirilla had its own standing army. Giiradyn did not take this likely as this decreased his military influence. After he assassinated Olivaar, Giiradyn banished the Myrviicsii from Cirilla. Olivaar’s wife and their son, Valyr, narrowly escaped death with the help of the Myrviicsii commander. Sir Aalmyn of Krilledge. Sir Aalmyn was a commoner that was brought up by Lord Olivaar. Owing much of his life to him. It would be him that would train one of the most infamous and well-known Myrviicsii of all time, Valyr of Palmyra.
The Myrviicsii traveled into Nilfaard and built a new stronghold there, where others took refuge from House Maar. Valyr and his companions would carry out various type of work, bringing the Myrviicsii a notable reputation among the powerful and nobility. The work itself had varied but nonetheless were similar in the sense of ridding away problems with a sword. It had gotten to the point where the Nilfgaardian emperor took interest. He, like many, heard stories of the Myrviicsii and very much respected them. One particular job Valyr had done was to escort the emperor’s daughter. It was then when Valyr and Princess Mariin had met. After many encounters, they both had slowly fallen in love. Princess Mariin unfortunately became more sickly throughout the years after she birthed Rosalyn in 626 A.D. Her eventual death led her brother, Emperor Lucsairys IV, into the Nilfgaardian throne.

Valyr and the rest of the surviving Myrviicsii wouldn’t deal with House Maar until riots and rebellions increased. Sir Ravyrd, a competent military commander and part of the Maar nobility, had sent mercenaries to kill some of the Myrviicsii. It was then when Sir Navlynn of Alba, the Myrviicsii commander, supported the War of the Crownlands. As the Myrviicsii began to build large support, they were met with violent clashes from Maar loyalists. With the help of Emperor Lucsairys IV, Nilfgaardian troops and ships flooded into the Cirillian Crownlands. Although his help required the condition of having Rosalyn rule Cirilla. It was a smart proposition as he failed to produce any heirs, leaving Rosalyn as heir to the Nilfgaardian throne as well. After the defeat of House Maar, Rosalyn was proclamated as the first High Queen of Cirilla as all Cirillian nobles pledged their loyalty to her. Her eventual rule as Empress began the Restoration of Alyria.

Love Has Reasons Which Reason Cannot Understand

Light Within the Blizzard

Christmas Eve
Verzona, Alyria
Thursday, December 24th, 2015

"Yes. yes. Yeah mom I got it. They just want me to stay after for a bit to help fix something before Christmas. Yes I know! Yep, love you bye." Vince said over his smartphone. He tucked it back into his pocket and gave out a small sigh. Vince was quite small compared to his friends and others, 5'3”. Though he was seventeen, maybe a growth spurt was still possible. Vince’s hair was dark brown, well groomed and it gently hanged over his forehead. Deep and intense brown eyes, set a-symmetrically within their sockets, it was something you get lost in if you stared at it for too long. He wasn’t the most attractive nor was he called the hideous of any group, though there was something alluring about him, perhaps it's his aura of suffering and the need to soothe it or maybe it's simply a feeling of hospitality you get when you’re around him. “So ready for another night of work?” Vince’s coworker, Iryna asked. “Yeah during the night before Christmas. Can’t wait to quit this place after high school.” Vince replied. Iryna smiled, “Come on, I’m sure boss wouldn’t be too happy us talking back here for too long." They left the employee room and went back to work. They both worked at some digital media building but Vince himself couldn't do much as the others since he was a minor, though that didn't stop the boss to push more work into him. Iryna had probably worked there for about a year and a half now. Vince was her assistant and a lot of times the coffee boy.

Few Hours Later…

10:21 PM

Iryna was arching over her seat, still typing on her computer. Her buttery blond hair was tied in a bun behind her head while a whole segment of it laid to the side, like a ray of sunlight. “Hey Vince!” she yelled across the room. “Yea?” he answered as he walked up behind her. “I’m almost finished with this document, could you put these boxes away in the back for me?” Iryna asked. “Uh yeah sure.” he said. “Hey um do you know the time?” Vince added. She looked behind her shoulder back at Vince as he was holding a few boxes. “Oh yeah, it’s 10:21” He continued to walk toward the backroom, “Thanks, Iryna.” Outside began to snow even more, it was harder and harder to define what was what. The snow covered every corner and ground while the sky was dark as the wintery clouds blocked the moon. Iryna finally finish her work and started to turn off the computer. She sighed and rubbed her forehead, expressing tiredness as she sat in her chair for a brief moment. She walked over to the large window and stood there after, noticing the snowstorm. Vince had came back seeing Iryna facing toward the window, walking over there seemingly quiet. He had noticed her shivering from the cold that came inside, which spurred him to put his jacket over her. Iryna noticed as the jacket went on her shoulders and covered her back, she turned back and smiled. “Oh thanks, but I have my own in the employee room.” Iryna said as she slowly took the jacket off. Vince nodded with a small indication of emotion, “Ah , gotcha. Sorry.” he motioned. “Oh you’re fine.” There was a few seconds of silence with only the sound of snow hailing down after their short exchange. Vince then stared through the window, “Dang it, guess I won’t be able to get back home.” Iryna looked once more through the window, “Crap, I really don’t want to get stuck in here…” Vince had started to text on his smartphone while he swung his key lanyard. “Welp, I’m pretty sure I’m staying here for the night now.” he affirmed. Iryna looked at her assistant, she noticed that this was probably the first time they were alone together. Usually during work they were around others but now they themselves seemed to be detached from the outside world except for their phones. “Hey! My house isn’t that from here, if we run it I think we could make it. Unless you want to stay here.” Iryna exclaimed softly. Vince’s face seemed perplexed for a moment, thinking on what to say. “Sure. Alright, let’s go. I don’t think I can turn on my car anyways.” he said with a certain face. She nodded and went on back to get her things and her purse. They then went down the stairs as the lights turned off themselves due to some power outage. “And there goes the lights…” Iryna commented. “Well you ready?” she added. Vince looked at her while her scarf covered most of her face, “Yea, let’s go before we freeze to death.” he answered. They opened the door and a gust of wind immediately hit their faces while piles of snow had already infiltrated the steps of the building.

10:58 PM

Both had tried to walk through the snow only making slow progress. Iryna had began to run toward the other end of the block while signaling Vince to do the same. After making to the end, the snow seemed to fall on them harder than before. Both once again tried to run through the snow, though suddenly Iryna had seemed to slip onto the ground. Feeling the cold reaching through her clothing she cried, “Fuck!”. Vince had immediately picked her up and carried her. “Where?” he shouted. Iryna wide-eyed, grew amazed on how easily it was for Vince to pick and carry her up, she then pointed forward. “Take a left at the end of the street and we should be close… And wow you’re stronger than I realized.” she complimented. Vince continued to ran across the snow wasteland. “Uhh, thanks?” he said a little flushed. Within a few minutes they were already near Iryna’s condo, under 10 minutes as well. “There!” she said while Vince had carefully led on the ground. Opening her purse for the keys Vince looked at the surroundings, even though snow covered almost everything he noted the christmas decorations still lit up the neighborhood. As Iryna got the key she inserted it into the keyhole, opening the door to the apartment complex. “Wait you own the whole building?” Vince questioned. “This place used to be where my dad’s friends would hang out, he later bought it. So yeah I guess I own it, indirectly.” she answered as they went up the stairs toward the end of the hall. “Though I usually only use one apartment.” she added. “Ahhh, coolio.” Vince said.

Iryna then used another key to open the door, as it opened a small gust of cold passed through them. “Well welcome to my home, it’s not much bu-” she tried flickering the light but it seemed the power was out over here as well. “No power?” Vince assumed. “No power.” Iryna answered. They began to use their flashlights on their phone and walked around the apartment. “Do you have candles?” He asked. Iryna thought for moment trying to remember, “Yes! They should be over here” she replied, slowly drifting into a murmur as she ran toward the hall. She then opened her closet grabbing a few candles. “Hey um do you setting some around here?” She asked. “Uh sure.” While placing the candles Iryna noticed she had no lighter on her, searching for it in her purse . “Need something?” Vince asked as he held out his lighter toward her. “Oh thanks… Wait why do you have one? You don't smoke do you?” She said. “No, I just happened to have it in my pocket.” He answered. As Iryna lit up the candles around the room Vince had noticed her face as the fire from the candles showed her enchanting features. He stood there in a gaze, fixated on her beauty as a dog were to watch their owner. Iryna finished lighting all the candles and noticed Vince staring at her, “Um yes?” she said. Vince had then lost his trance and went back to normal, “Oh um, it’s nothing.” he replied as he walked to and sat on the couch. “Oh okay? I’m gonna go to the bathroom real quick, be right back.” Vince nodded and took out his phone to check on his [instagram]. One post showed a photo of two girls and one guy smiling as the background revealed to be some party and a huge mansion. Vince smiled, scrolling past picture upon picture. “Merry Christmas.” he whispered. “Watcha lookin at?” Iryna asked as she towered over him in height. “Oh uh just photos of my friend that went to this fancy ball or party.“ Vince replied, putting his phone on the table and setting music on. “Why didn’t you go? Thought every teen would love to go to a party, I know I did.” she wondered. Iryna sat next to him at the opposite end of the sofa. “Well, it’s in Brittany and my parents don’t want me to go that far alone. I was going to ditch and just go then I realized that I have work still. Kind’ve a bummer.” He said. "Wow that is a bummer." Iryna replied. Vince face indicated he was thinking of something and then faced her, "You know I never knew much about you even though I'm your assistant. You don't have a boyfriend or anything? Or girlfriend?" Vince had asked, waiting for a reply. "Nope." she answered. "Oh, why not? You look pretty." Iryna blushed and gave out a cute smile. "Aww, thanks... Well there was a few guys but college and work kind’ve pushed that away… What about you?” she looked at him, tilting her a head to the side slightly. "I had a girlfriend last year, now I just haven't found the girl I guess." he said as his head look up toward her. "You’re lying." Vince immediately responded, "No I'm not." he protested. Iryna leaned closer where their faces were now only inches away from each other. “I can tell, you like someone don’t you. Don’t lie to me” she teased. Vince face went red, “bu-bu… Alright. I like someone…” he admitted. Iryna smiled and nudged his shoulder, “So who is it?" She asked, full of anticipation. Vince pulled out his phone and went through his pictures, he then unconsciously leaned a little closer toward Iryna. “This is her, second from the left.” Vince waited for a response as his coworker stared at his phone. “She’s cute. So did you ever try to talk to her?” Iryna wondered. Vince put his phone back on the table and replied, “Well not in a flirty way. She’s has a boyfriend and she’s part of the nobility. Though I really liker her cause of her personality and that she can dance AND sing. ” he finished. “Ahh I see.” Iryna nodded and stood up, heading to kitchen. She opened the fridge and grabbed a can of alcohol while also grabbing a can of Ciri-Cola. As she threw the soda pop across the room, Vince had barely catched it with his hand. ”Thanks.” he quickly said. She sat down again, opening the can and taking a sip of it. “How old are you?” he added, wondering since she was drinking alcohol. She looked at him, “Twenty, just right on the line.” she made a straight imaginary line with her arm in front of her. “You drank when you were younger didn’t you?” he asked. “... Maybe.” she murmured, looking away. They both laughed, they continued to talk for hours getting to know each other little-by-little.

1:17 AM

“And then he ran outside literally naked yelling ‘I love you Martha!’” Vince said hysterically. Irnya giggled about his story, both had seem to not realize the time, “Wow! Haha, you have really weird friends.” she said as she finished her glass of wine that was poured earlier ago. “Hey umm, where’s your bathroom?” Vince asked, standing up and walking toward the hall. “It’s down the hall, middle door to the right.” she replied. “Alright, thanks.” Vince opened the door and locked it as he entered. He later stared at the mirror as he washed his hands, noticing his hair. He then dragged his wet hand across his forehead, causing his hair to move the side as usual. Vince had started to realize that this was probably the longest time he had ever been with a girl, alone together. He tried to hide his grin by biting his lower lip. “Wow.” he thought. Vince then left the bathroom, seeing that a bedroom was open he peaked inside. Irnya laid on her bed, looking on her phone. He knocked on the side of the door, “Can I come in?” Vince asked. She looked over her phone, “Yeah, sure!” she said cheerfully, patting down the side for him to sit on. “What are ya looking at?” he wondered. Iryna let out a small sigh, “Well since the electricity is out, I can watch movies on my phone. You wanna watch with me?” she said. “Sure, what movie?” he leaned a closer to where their shoulders touched, the heat radiating from their bodies allowed them to feel warm as the blizzard was still occurring. “Amelia’s Treasure.” As they laid next to each other Vince had fallen asleep during the movie, though unnoticeable to Iryna till the movie ended. Vince had left his phone on top of the drawer next to him, still playing music. “Vince? Viiince? You'd better not be sleeping.” She whispered. “Sigh… Dammit” Iryna added. She nudged him to the side and had done so again and again till he was the opposite side of her bed. “Really? This is my bed…” She murmured. The music from Vince’s phone continued to play,

'Puts his lips on my neck, Makes me want to give him my body… Sweet like candy, But he's such a man…'

Iryna immediately was blushing, standing still for a whole minute. She leaned over him to turn the music off, “Oh my god.” she thought. “Should I just push him off? I really don’t want to sleep on the couch...” she added. Fully flustered, Iryna didn’t know what to think or even do at that point. She kept on thinking, “Seventeen… Twenty… 3 years… This is stupid, I really got to go to bed, screw it.” Iryna laid on the other side of the bed and slept as the blizzard continued on and the candles lit up her room. It was a long night for the both of them, and now it was Christmas morning. Wherever shall love lead us?

Light Within the Blizzard Part 2

Christmas Day
Verzona, Alyria
Friday, December 25th, 2015

10:02 AM

Iryna stretched her arms as she woke up from her slumber, immediately realizing that Vince had stayed over she looked to her left. Vince was gone, "Hmm he woke up earlier than me, wonder where he went." she thought. She had also realized that she had just slept with a guy on the same bed, causing her cheeks to turn red. Iryna got up and went toward the bathroom prepping herself for the day, hearing noise within the kitchen but not really paying any attention to it. As the water from the shower turned on Vince had finished making breakfast, thankfully the electricity and power was back on. He prepared the table by placing plates, pouring drinks and such, making it look fancy for a Christmas themed breakfast. As he waited he stood near the window noticing that the blizzard had died down. Iryna had came out of the bathroom realizing Vince was still here, quickly stepping into her bedroom and closing it. Vince turned around hearing the door shut, he sat on the chair next to the table and once again went on his phone. Later she came out of her room, all dazzled up and fresh. Vince had nothing else to wear other than his work clothes from last night, though he did clean himself up earlier. "Hey!" he said, smiling. Iryna looked over to the table that was filled with food as it’s scent traveled towards her. “Wow, can't believe you made all this! You cook too?!” She asked. “Well felt like I owe you for letting stay here for the night and I'd figured since we’re not with our families at the moment I could cook something up for us.” He answered, waving his hand over the food suggesting to enjoy. Iryna began to take a sip from her mug. “So are ya gonna go visit your family after this?” Vince asked, munching on a piece of bacon. She looked up toward him with a cookie sticking out of her mouth. “That's fucking cute.” Vince thought in his head. “My family lives in Azov, I'm just live here for college.” Iryna answered. “Oh so you’re Azovan?” he asked. “Yep, you’re?” she awaited a reply as she licked the drips of coffee from her spoon. “Cirillian from Nilfgaard.” he responded. Iryna nodded as Vince answered. She began to cross her legs and accidently touch Vince’s legs, “Oops sorry.” she quickly apologized. Vince had finished his meal and stood up to put his plate away, "Oh it’s fine… And sorry for falling asleep on your bed” he paused for a second. “Next to you.” he added. Iryna’s face again turned pinkish, Vince could tell but didn’t comment on it. “Oh no it’s fine! Totally fine!” she quickly retorted. “He’s your assistant godammit! Think clearly!” she thought. Thereafter they together cleaned the dishes while continually talked for about 30 minutes. Later Vince was at the door ready to leave, “Thanks again for letting me stay over the night. I really appreciate it.” he said, having the door already half open. “No problemo… and uh thanks for carrying me here, heh.” Iryna replied. They both looked at each other silently for about 15 seconds, the atmosphere felt awkward and delicate. Vince finally broke the silence, “Later.” Iryna quickly responded, “Bye.” she said in a sheepish tone and lunged at him to give a hug. Vince embraced her awkwardly, not fully understanding the situation. He walked downstairs and glanced back as Iryna peaked through the small slit of the opened door and finally closing it.

The Rise of an Empire and the Fall of a Another

Highrose, Alyria
Friday, February 19th, 2016

It was midnight as the moonlight bored into the throne room, illuminating the throne itself. It was made of solid gold, accompanied by royal velvet cloth to cushion the imperial royalties who sat upon it. The emperor slowly walked toward the seat his ancestors ruled from as he revealed his figure in the moonlight, the throne radiated immense power.
