The new Khagan Moses ben Obadiah Bulanid, will be crowned within a week as the nation mourns. Khagan Moses IX will forever be known as leading the nation through the Pecheneg Wars,outnumbered and outgunned after the chaotic and somewhat tyrannical reign of his father, Khagan Hezekiah V ben Obadiah Bulanid 'The Glutton', when Khazaria shrunk to a small state nestled in the Caucasus. Moses IX took the sword and retook most of the old borders, taking Alania from the Pechenegs and Crimea from the Ukrainians. Moses IX also guided us through the Khazarian Invasion of Georgia and the Plague of 1929 which almost ended the Bulanid reign of Khazaria forever, and also issuing new reforms to the government and military to modernise it. People across the country are in mourning, as many generations have grown up under his benevolent shadow. Thanks to him, coal, iron and copper mines are at their highest potential and electricity is found across the capital. He will be buried in his ancestral tombs a week from now. May Jehovah give him reward in Olam Ha-Ba.

Also in the news, soldiers have successfully crossed the Kerch Strait under heavy fire, taking light casualties from warlord machine gun turrets which were not destroyed from the artillery barrage. They have become bogged down under fire but a relief effort will hopefully rescue them and eliminate the rebel entrenchments. The third and fourth armies have halted in the wake of the death of Khagan Moses IX, taking a moment to grieve. Soon they will cross the Don into rebel territory.

The Varvian Union

A brief overview

The Varvian Union is a essentially a conglomerate of provinces overseen by the Vanguard Council. This council makes decisions on what is best for country and generally oversees all military and economic matters. Each province elects a Vanguard every 4 years and the Vanguard represents that province when meeting with the other council members. This particular form of democracy has been in place in Varvia for almost 900 years.

Religion
The official national religion of Varvia is Wervinism. Wervinism is the belief that the universe was created by a group of beings who inhabit another dimension. These beings created 2 kinds of people, the impure lesser races meant to serve and the pure noble race to lead and take advantage of the lesser beings. This belief plays a huge part in Varvian life as almost 93% of Varvia practices Wervinism.

Varvia is inhabited mainly by 2 species, Wolven and Human. Due to the practice of Wervinism over the last 200 years there is almost no presence of the lesser beings in Varvia.

President Mudima graciously accepts invitation to Mediterranean Union

President Mudima has signed the Treaty of Florence and has elected to become a member of the Mediterranean Union. "This is the beginning of many great things to come," said Mudima in front of a large crowd of citizens gathered outside the Royal Palace. The National Assembly expressed overwhelming support for the signing of the bill, with Assemblyman Chidi Madalitso saying "It is very good that our President is looking to expand our international horizons. Perhaps this will help us bring stability to our great nation."

Mudima is expected to announce a visit to the Byzantine Empire to meet firsthand with its leaders and accept the invitation received for diplomatic relations.

VP to conduct training regiment with Democratic People's Army

The Vice President is expected to be meeting with senior military officials over the course of the next week to initiate a specialized training program within the DPA. Tariro assured the press that this exercise should not "be interpreted as anything more than just what it is - an exercise."

Without showing a bit of emotion in his face, he produced a quality Bearian cigar, lit it on the burning candle, and smoked until the entire cigar was gone. "Please, Azubuike, I admire that you are always honest with me. You do not fear me like the rest of my so-called 'advisers,' but you are wrong on this subject. I will not sit idly while this tyrant invites whites into our nation for the sole intent of subjugating our lands, raping our women, and burning our towns as they do with everything else," he finally said.

"I understand, sir, but I hope you will think this through and reconsider the purpose. Yes, we must overthrow Mudima - the snake of Onza - but we must make sure that our reasons are righteous and justified," responded Azubuike.

"Ahhhh Azubuike, I can think of no cause more righteous than the reclamation of what has belonged to our ancestors for centuries. Though you are right about one thing - Mudima is a snake, and Andromeda is the snake den, and it will be the PLA that purges the infestation," said Kato.

"You are right about that, sir. I just hope that we do what we do for the greater good of Africa," said Azubuike as he left the room.

Moments later, a hulking man entered the room with haste. "My lord, I pray I am not interrupting you, but I bring news of dire importance," said the man, wearing nothing but a bandoleer of bullets and bloodied shorts. Kato looked up and examined the man. "Ah, Alemayehu Simba, what brings you to my office in such haste, I wonder?"

"Lord Commander, we have received intel from the village of Séngo - it says that a barkeep in the village was revealed to be a DPR spy. Some of my men attempted to detain him, but he escaped. We wounded him, but we fear he is on his way to Andromeda to alert the DPR to our presence in the town."

"I'm glad you have brought me this information, General Simba, but let me assure you that Mudima would be making a mistake to march on Séngo with his army. They have no way of identifying who is PLA and who is DPR, and I've no doubts that Mudima acknowledges this," responded Kato.

"While I suppose you are right, I will still have my men on elevated alert in the village. It is the only way to ensure that we do not lose our foothold that we have. With time, we will be ready to move on Molikoro - we would then be right outside of Andromeda," said Simba.

"That would definitely give Mudima something to think about," said Kato. "I hope you know that I am proud of you, Simba. Very proud indeed. You will do well, I know. Oh, and on your way out, send one of your best soldiers in, please," he said. Without a word, Simba left the room.

After several meetings with the Bearian ambassadors, the Vanguard Council has stated it would be “extremely interested in an alliance with the Bearia and would like to see a set of terms” before it agrees to anything. There have also been rumours circulating regarding Varvia inviting The Republic of Saratoga into the alliance but details are sketchy at this time.

The Varvian Union seeks free trade and non aggression with Florence and the Byzantines
After receiving offers from both nations, Varvia is now seeking free trade with Florence and the Byzantine Empire as well as a mutual non agression pact.

Too close for comfort?
After the recent establishment of the North Sea Alliance, Ociawakan ships have been reported patrolling the waters near the southern tip. There are also rumours of pillboxes and shoreline defences being built up in the area. The Council was unavailable to make comment on these events.

Massive mining operation begins in mineral rich north
After the recent discovery of a massive iron vein the north, mining operations have begun. It is too early to make any accurate estimation but it is expected that the income from this project will massively increase economic growth in Varvia providing both jobs and raw resources.

Byzantine Empire agrees to Free trade deal with Varvian Union
Constantinople- The Byzantine Empire has agreed to a free trade deal with the Varvian Union. The Byzantine Empire will also agree to the Mutual non aggression pact between the two countries. The move will help both countries with trade and help foster goodwill among the two countries.

Byzantine Empire offers formal trade and defense deal to The Mercantile Union of Copenhagen
Constantinople- The Byzantine empire has officially offered the The Mercantile Union of Copenhagen a treaty of friendship that covers the following:
Non Aggression pact
Free and Fair Trade between the two countries
Mutual defense pact between the two countries
The allowing of the North Sea Alliance to supersede this treaties defensive pact should both parties be on separate sides during the war.

The move is to gain access to one of the major sources of Aluminum within Yurope. The move is not meant to be seen as a hostile move to either the Varvian Union or the Bearain Union. Should the agreement with the country of Copenhagen then the Byzantine Empire would have treaties pending with most if not all of the major nations currently within Yurope. The only nation that hasen't replied to any of it's advances is the Kingdom of Durham.

The Council of Copenhagen has deliberated over the offer by the Byzantines and has decided to agree to such a proposal. The Council and the Patrician look forward to further diplomatic and economic interactions between the two states.

Varvia

Copenhagen wishes to remind Varvia that the recent militarization and warship sightings off the coast of Varvia are viewed with suspicion, and that any aggressive maneuvers towards Copenhagen, Durham, or otherwise will have serious consequences. It is suggested that Varvia considers its future actions wisely in regards to an international standpoint.

Bearia

Acknowledging the relative proximity and geographical limitations of Bearia, especially in relation to Copenhagen, the Patrician has put forward a trade proposal between the two, in hopes of strengthening economical ties.

1) Bearia will be allowed unrestricted maritime travel through the Kattegat other than a small tariff to be paid to the state of Copenhagen for use of the Strait, and be allowed to dock in Copenhagen for repairs and asylum if necessary.
2) In return, Copenhagen will offer its supplies of Aluminum to Bearia at a lower price than what would otherwise be available, as well as trade of other needed materials.
3) Both Bearia and Copenhagen will agree to a mutual Non Aggression Pact, but a military alliance will not be formed until deemed necessary or prudent by both parties.

With the swearing in of President Jonas Hakim Abdil Abbas, the Union of Anansia would enter a new era. While within Union, the fight was not over. Despite former President Muhammad Ahmed Kahlil disappearing following the rise of Jonas Abbas, groups loyal to Kahlil and his government continued to clash with Union troops over the coming years. Despite continuous fighting between the Union and Loyalist forces, Abbas continued to preach his dream of peace within his nation, regularly travelling thought it's borders including some of the most volatile regions.

Abroad, Abbas made efforts to grow Anansia. Personally signing the Treaty of Florence, bringing the Anansian Union into the Mediterranean Union, and opening up ports along the Anansian coastline to international traffic and trade. Embassies are set to be opened in the capital city of Bekkari, over the next few months.

Bearia signs treaty with Copenhagen

The ambassadors from Copenhagen arrive in the Bearian Union with a proposal. A proposal that no bright individual could refuse. Cheap Aluminium. And the Ambassadors returned to Copenhagen with the Lord Commander's signature on a piece of paper. Although there were some concerns over the non-aggression pact, the talks went on with great success. Bearian Trade would be free to go through the Danish straight for a small price and Bearia has access to cheap aluminium.

The Lord Commander made a statement that "I hope the next time we have talks, it will be about the fair treatment of Wolven in Copenhagen. If we can achieve this, it will be a victory for both the Bearian Union and Copenhagen."

"Bearia to drastically enlarge navy" says Minister of Defence

"With Copenhagen practically controlling Bearian trade, it would make sense to enlarge the Bearian navy. This would provide jobs for many Rovstad citizens (Leningrad/Petrograd) and would also include the enlargement of the commercial port and the expansion of the dry docks by 60%" says Armaments Minister Yuriv Loski.

Not much information has been released other than what has been said however some numbers have been leaked. Such as a planned 8 battleships, 1 carrier and 15 light cruisers. These numbers aren't concrete however we can expect something along those lines. There has been speculation of also expanding the submarine fleet but no comments have yet been released about this at the moment.

The new Khagan Moses watched the procession carry away his grandfather's body to the ancestral tombs in the Caucasus mountains, a Jewish Valley of the Kings. His grandfather was a good man, a brilliant man. If Jehovah hadn't taken his life so quickly, he possibly would've expanded south, converting the Zoroastrian and Orthodox countries to the north, reach the Levantine coast and possibly even reform Israel. But then again, perhaps Jehovah meant that quest to be in the hands of a new, more younger Khagan. Things were going well, with new trade agreements. New machines were shipped through the Mediterranean and Black Seas, including a horseless carriage and new farming equipment along with speaking boxes. In return, coal, iron and copper were shipped out in tons, ready to provide electricity to foreign nations. Samandar was the only city with electricity, but soon the Khagan hoped, it would spread across all of Khazaria. How things will be, Moses wondered, and what shall Khazaria do next? Expand north, or go to war with Zoroastrian Armenia to the south? Just as he was watching people go about their lives below, a courtier knelt before him and handed him a letter. The Khagan opened it and read it. He understood some of it, mostly from diplomats who taught him some of the world's languages, and how to write them.

Some view Africans as inferior, others see Jews inferior, and others think both are inferior. In this we are united, two of the most discriminated, uniting together for a non bigoted future. Your diplomats will be happy to see Khazaria in it's glory, such as the fine wines of Samandar, the traditional horse competitions and the deep rooted faith of Judaism that has been in this area for over 1300 years. Border Skirmish Over Contested County of Lincolnshire
A Mercian foot patrol strayed over the border between the Counties of Lincolnshire and Yorkshire this morning resulting in armed retaliation from a nearby observation post. Shots were fired and the skirmish resulted in three Mercian casualties before they retreated back into the contested territory of Lincolnshire under heavy fire from a machine gun position. Shortly thereafter Mercian forces in Lincolnshire initiated mortar strikes against the observation post and others nearby, resulting in eight casualties; the Prime Minister has since declared that this latest transgression is an unacceptable challenge to Durham's sovereignty that will not be accepted. The 1st Tank Division has now moved to the area along with supporting mechanised and artillery units, however confirmation on whether or not these forces will be used to seize the territory of Lincolnshire from Mercia remains elusive.

Tensions have increased on the border with Armenia recently after a group of pro-Armenian Georgian separatists bombed a newly constructed synagogue in Tbilisi. These separatists are believed to be backed by the Armenian government which clearly wants Georgia for their own, especially since the Khazar Invasion of Georgia, when Khazaria under the late Moses IX ben Hezekiah Bulanid invaded Georgia for the resources, more land, the pacification of Georgian backed terrorists who burnt an entire Jewish suburb in Tbilisi, and the government's refusal to acknowledge the incident as a terror plot. Armenia joined on Georgia's side and both armies were thrashed when General Eran Sarçac led a massive encirclement in which the main body of the Georgian and Armenian forces were circumvented by a flanking movement using tanks through the Caucasus, which mistakenly was perceived by Armenian planners as an impenetrable natural barrier against armored vehicles. But they didn't acknowledge the ancient landscaping done hundreds of years prior to make travel through the Caucasus easier for traders and merchants in medieval times. As a result, the bulk of the Armenian and Georgian armies found themselves trapped in an encirclement and were beaten. A mass infantry and cavalry invasion of the cities ensued. Tbilisi was taken after several months of rough hand to hand fighting in close quarters, as was many other cities, even going so far to sack the Armenian city of Ani near the border. Peace was sued and the war ended, with the Georgian government now in exile in Armenia.
But now with a new Khagan, who is already dealing with the rebel warlords in Crimea, it seems peace may not last very long. Already trenches and bunkers are starting to be constructed on the Armenian border, weaponry is being bought from the Byzantine Empire, and plans are being drafted in case if the Armenians invade.

After much fighting in Crimea the Kerch Strait has been seized, and many thousands of troops and tanks are making their way across the fortified strait. The relief effort to rescue various soldiers who were bogged down due to unforeseen bunkers and turrets filled with rebels has succeeded, with minimal casualties. Infantry have started using new weapons from the Byzantine Empire against the rebels helping them hugely. Artillery has destroyed more fortifications and have revealed a complicated network of bunkers and tunnels which for now remain too dangerous for any soldier to enter, showing that the rebel Crimea isn't as divided as we thought, and that they have managed to build interesting defences. But now that the soldiers have pushed through, it's only a matter of time until Feodosia is taken and southern Crimea secured. As for the rebels in the bunkers, we will starve them out. Artillery has destroyed various warehouses of food and clothes outside of the bunkers, and so they will be forced to starve in freezing conditions.

Parliament Outlaws Anti-Semitic Persecution

A parliamentary statute has been passed and now comes into effect outlawing Anti-Semitic Persecution in the Kingdom of Durham. While Anti-Semitism has been a declining force within Pitmatic society no laws had previously outlawed the persecution of Jewish families; this new law prevents the use of Judaism to persecute others and bans business owners from requiring Jewish employees or patrons to submit to identity checks. A further element of this new statute makes it illegal to pay a Jewish person less than any other citizen for the same work, which is a major step forwards in the Liberal Party's plans for a Great Society. Richard Bauman, head of the National Council of Rabbis welcomed the news and praised the Liberal government's efforts to achieve a more equal society.

1st Tank Division Crosses Mercian Border

"A destroyed Mercian tank, knocked out north of Hull."

The 1st Tank Division crossed the border into the disputed territory of Lincolnshire today, after mortar shelling of Pitmatic observation posts continued through the night. The Prime Minister has asked Parliament to declare a state of war with the Commonwealth of Mercia and has ordered the mobilisation of the armed forces to combat the threat, dubbing the continued aggression along the border unacceptable. The territory presently referred to as Lincolnshire actually includes parts of what was the southern Riding of Yorkshire, prior to the English Civil Wars, and control of this area has been disputed between Durham and Mercia ever since, with the presence of Mercian troops in Hull giving the Commonwealth de facto rule.

The invasion of Lincolnshire has been placed under the command of Field Marshal Douglas, Lord Belmont, while the Royal Navy has been deployed along the east coast under the command of Admiral Halsey, Lord Hindmarsh. Reports released to the press indicate that the 1st Tank Division has pushed south with the support of mechanised infantry units and heavy artillery as far as Hull itself and is now preparing to assault the city proper; Mercian forces in the area were forced into swift retreat, or simply bypassed by the highly mobile forces of the Army of the Northern Marches in a new kind of warfare dubbed Blitzkrieg by the eminent German migrant and Professor at the University of Durham's Bede College, Klaus Steiner. Rapid advances are anticipated against the Mercian army which lacks any substantial tank force and continues to use the old British Mark V tank from 1918, supported by the lighter French import Renault FT.

A massive disparity in firepower between Pitmatic forces and those of Mercia has been noted as the 1st Tank Division advances south; modern infantry weapons and tactics and the focus on mobility have allowed a rapid pace of advance. Combine this with the use of modern air power in direct support of ground forces and it seems that the rapid retreat of Mercian forces south over the Humber is inevitable. In a firefight recorded for the newsreels a squadron of M4 Cornwallis tanks, which included a heavily armed Lancer variant the old Mark Vs were utterly outmatched, most being completely destroyed with one shot from the standard Cornwallis' 75mm cannon; if anything the little Renault light tanks fared even worse, their armaments ineffective against the M4's armour and outranged by the 75mm and 17 pounder guns.

According to sources in the 1st Tank Division the aim is to beseige Hull, secure the Humber and force the city to surrender without having to fight over it. It seems clear than Field Marshal Douglas wishes to avoid destroying the historic commercial city, or harming its inhabitants who are still considered to be English citizens despite being ruled by the Mercian government. This policy however has not prevented the Lord Belmont from ordering artillery bombardments of military targets south of the Humber, including anti-tank gun emplacements along the riverbank. Under the cover of this bombardment it is hoped that a flanking force will be able to move westwards and take Goole, allowing Durham's forces to avoid a costly crossing of the Humber itself.

Prime Minister Responds to Copenhagen

Prime Minister Carr has responded to Copenhagen's inquiry about the present conflict with Mercia, requesting that they dispatch a naval flotilla to assist in securing the North Sea and preventing Mercian ships from moving freely within it.

THE LION'S ROAR, EPISODE I: THE CONQUEST OF THE ROMAGNA
CHAPTER I: THE VILLA DI CAFAGGLIO MEETINGS:

The air was cooler in the Mugello region of Tuscany than it was in the City of Florence itself. 25 kilometres away from the city, away from the prying eyes of the public, the patriarch of the unofficial, though fully acknowledged 'royal' family of the Florentine Republic, had called a meeting at his younger son's country villa at Cafagglio. Piero had thought it best not to hold the meetings at his own villa on the Poggio Imperiale, given that his villa was the rural seat of his court, one of the most public institutions in the Republic. The privacy of the secluded villa at Cafagglio was thus preferred. At the meeting would be his wife, Lucrezia 'the Elder', his children, Lorenzo, Guiliano and Lucrezia 'the Younger', along with Lorenzo's wife, Clarice. Piero had also summoned his brothers, Giovanni and Carlo, and had requested the presence of his long time friend, Doge Francesco Mozzi. The meeting was to take place in the gardens, under the shade of the now ancient trees.

"Good afternoon. Lorenzo, I have heard of the progress of your 'great push forward' initiative, and I have to say, I am impressed (the Great Push Forward had been in operation for barely a month, and yet it had already precipitated a jump in GDP/Capita to £84,800). Perhaps the final annexation of Liguria will further add to this success (Liguria, with its population of nearly 12 million people, had been claimed by the Florentine Republic a few years prior, but was not yet incorporated into the Republic, at least, not until now). Francesco, I am astounded at the successes of your prosperous peace plan, and I congratulate you on your diplomatic achievement, it was no small feat establishing the Mediterranean Union, and establishing cordial relations with the North, though you must make sure that diplomatic correspondance is dealt with by your government, not my household." Piero handed the Doge the letter he had received by the Mercantile Union of Copenhagen (while the Medici were the de facto rulers of Florence, they preferred to use official channels, thus Piero was rather annoyed that the Patrician of Copenhagen had chosen to address his family on the issue of the treaty between Florence and Copenhagen, instead of addressing the Doge, Francesco Mozzi). "Giovanni, good work with the purchase of the bullion. I know you plan to sell it, but I am asking you to hold on to it, and to buy up all gold and silver on the market; If we drive up the price of gold and silver domestically, the Bank can sell it at an even higher profit." Piero continued, before reaching his chair and sitting down, to the acknowledgement of all.

"We must however address a growing problem, the problem of the overpopulation of the Republic. Tuscany and Liguria are too small a place to safely house sixty-four million people, and we certainly cannot expell them without facing international condemnation and economic decline. Our only course is to expand our territories. Francesco, as Doge, you should be the one to deal with the expansion; As I understand it, one of the terms for the numerous treaties signed by Florence in recent weeks was the 'mutual recognition of territorial ambitions' no? I would therefore suggest that you alert the international community that Florentine territorial ambitions extend to controlling the Italian Penninsular south of the Po River, and the Islands of Corsica, Sardinia and Sicily, and that, the Florentine Republic, will, over the course of the next few years, will be working to expand its territory as such, starting with the Romagna regions. It might be useful to look into, and recognise the territorial ambitions of all our partners, so long as they do not interfere with our own ambitions. Enough of business however, let us have dinner before we continue".

The meetings at Cafagglio lasted for three days, and in the end, it was agreed that:
- The Florentine Republic was to expand into the Italian Peninsular south of the Po River, starting with the Romagna.
- The Florentine Republic was to expand into Corsica, follwed by Sardinia and concluding with Sicily.
- The Florentine Republic was to recognise the territorial ambitions of all of its counterparts, whether in the Mediterranean, the Baltic or the North, unless those ambitions included Florence's own ambitions.
- As sugar to sweeten the pill, the Doge was to open up an international conference at Genoa in order to draw up a new order of international law, concerning the conduct of war and the relations between sovereign states.

The official statements to this effect would be made in the next few weeks.

In the Royal Palace in Andromeda - President Mudima is about to meet with his top advisers concerning new intel on the PLA's advances

"What do you think he's going to talk about?" asked Mwenye Amadi - the acting Commander of the DPRO's army - to Asha Tariro, the Vice President. To say that Amadi was a bold character on the battlefield would be something of an understatement. He was, perhaps, best known within the Capitol and across the DPRO-controlled territory East of the Nile for his unorthodox methods and exorbitantly brutal approaches to dealing with the enemy. One such tale - which could well be a myth, but was popularly passed off as true, nonetheless - recounted the aftermath of the notorious Battle of Khoba, best known for the fact that it was the first major showdown between the DPRO and the PLA, and also for the brutal defeat of the PLA. It is alleged that when Amadi received word that the enemy was coming, he summoned his most elite unit and led them in prayer. His reputation didn't come from the random call to prayer, however. It came from the fact that he ordered all of the PLA fighters who were captured to beat one another to death, and that the last prisoner standing would be set free. Supposedly the men refused to comply at first, but agreed once Amadi agreed to enter himself into the brawl. Amadi was the last man standing, and by every account, perhaps the most mentally unstable of the contenders.

Nonetheless, Mudima denied every allegation on the public level and narrowly saved Amadi from facing trial. While Mudima was condemning him from behind closed doors, Tariro was inviting him to her office for praise and commendation. The more religious supporters of the DPRO wrote it off as a dark moment in the Republic's history and assured themselves that it was necessary to prevent a PLA takeover.

"If he wanted us to know in advance, he would have told us," the Vice President responded. Amadi maintained his gaze for a half-minute before slouching in his seat and folding his arms.

Across the table from Tariro was Nnenne Kagiso, the Chief of Staff for the Royal Palace. Naturally, the two weren't very fond of one another as they were both under heavy consideration for the Vice Presidency. All except Tariro were sure that Kagiso would get the honor given her personable attitude and the fact that all were sure that Tariro's hot head would prevent her from gaining any position of power. Still, Tariro ended up being appointed for reasons that still aren't clear, but those close to her swore that she was nothing like how she appeared on the surface, and that beyond the cold exterior, there was a warm interior with a big heart and concern for the world.

The consensus, however, was that Tariro may have once had a big heart to give out to everybody, though this changed once the PLA rose to prominence. Indeed, Tariro has harbored an almost-obsessive desire to destroy the PLA since they took her native town of Samaria, which is now being used as their capitol. Gone was the woman who would help anyone in need, and taking her place was one who wouldn't involve herself in anything that didn't contribute directly to the complete and utter eradication of the PLA. Whereas Mudima had preferred the diplomatic approach when available, and the force of espionage when diplomacy was out of the picture, Tariro viewed typical warfare as the cleanest way to wipe out the opposition. Still, she actively supports Mudima's Democratic Socialist movement, and even most aspects of his plans for international peace - but she saw the PLA as something that had to be destroyed in order to accomplish any of this.

"At this time, I will call the meeting to order," said Imani Uzoma - Mudima's secretary. "On behalf of President Mudima, I would like to thank all of you for being here today. As I'm certain you are already aware, this meeting is outside of our regular timetable, and that is for a very special reason. While I will leave the specifics to Mr. Mudima, understand that we have credible reason to believe that we are on the brink of resuscitating the conflict between the DPRO and the PLA. At this time, I would like to welcome our President, Mr. Adewale Mudima," he said.

Light applause filled the room as Mudima filed in. Commander Amadi was the only one to hold his applause. "Thank you, my friends, for taking time out of your schedule to meet with me today. I understand that this meeting comes with short notice, but it is our collective jobs as the leaders of this Republic to be ready to respond a moment's notice to whatever threats may arrive, and we are indeed facing a potential threat at this time," began the President. "Indeed, as Mr. Uzoma pointed out, we have reason to believe that the PLA is preparing to reignite their conflict with us. An informant of ours in one of the watering holes in Séngo has detected PLA infantry in the city. As you may recall, Séngo asked that the DPRO withdraw its forces from the town in order to not make them a target for the PLA. As we've come to expect from them, they are making it a target anyways. Their inability to distinguish between civilian and combatant is what sets us apart from them - it is important that we all as government officials begin pushing that message. The PLA will kill anybody who is not an avid supporter of their cause. This will boost our public image as we are the ones offering to provide defense for those in need. That is all I have to ask of you all for now, though I know Commander Amadi has some words to say as well. He will address how we will handle this upcoming war in specifics." concluded Mudima, seating himself and facing the Commander.

An uncomfortable period of silence passed as Amadi finished every bit of his cigar before he began to speak. "I have the utmost amount of respect for you, President Mudima, but I think that we must be harder on our actions towards the PLA. We are not doing enough, and they are doing more and more by the minute. I do agree that we as a government should be reminding citizens that the PLA is not a civilized alternative to the DPRO as they would claim. The DPRO is the rightful government of Onza and its lands, and the PLA would do nothing but burn it. But enough with the preaching, as I know we are all already on the same page about this. We are going to handle this situation as we did the first escalation of war back in Khoba. Khoba is our biggest settlement West of the Nile, and it contains the only route that the PLA could take to cross into the East and march on Andromeda. It is essential that we defend this settlement with everything that we can utilize. However, it would be unwise to assume that the PLA would simply try to attack Khoba once again. We've proven to them that our forces are superior in terms of arsenal and training in head-on warfare - the issue is their use of unorthodox tactics to trick us. We must not fall prey to their trickery, Mr. President. It is my honest opinion that they are baiting us by appearing in Séngo. That town is already under the PLA's control, let's be honest. That is why the asked they asked us to leave to begin with." said the Commander.

There was no silence in between this time as Tariro rose and began to speak. "Of course I condone what Mudima has said, and he is right. However, I also concur with the Commander on the need to toughen our offense against the PLA. How long are we going to let them control the Western half of our nation? How will we look on the international scale if continue to lay back and let a civil war rage! We cannot keep this under the wraps like you have been trying, Mudima," said the Vice President. Her words clearly made Kagiso uneasy, as she shifted in her seat as though she was going to say something. Nonetheless, it was Mudima who spoke to fill the vacuum.

"I certainly acknowledge the direction that you are coming from, Asha, but you are not being truthful to accuse me of doing nothing to reclaim the West. We are under a temporary, unofficial ceasefire with the PLA. They are not burning settlements and they are not beheading religious heretics so long as we are not marching towards them. We risk jeopardizing the lives of thousands if we act too soon, and when the people hear of what the PLA is doing to their families in the West, they are only going to say that we had no justification for jeopardizing their lives. How is this okay?" retorted Mudima to Tariro.

"The President is right," conceded Commander Amadi. "I do support stronger action against the PLA, but we must wait for them to strike first if we are going to keep the hearts and minds of those here in the East. The last thing we need is the APR entering the fray once again," he said. The Alliance for Popular Resistance, or the APR, was a faction involved in the civil war up until 1933, when they conceded defeat to the federal government - the DPRO - and agreed to rejoin the union to destroy the PLA. They weren't an average resistance group, to say the least. They supported the format of the DPRO as the federal government and all, but they wanted new leadership, and they were prepared to kill in order to get it installed. Although there were never any direct clashes between the national defense forces of the DPRO and the APR, it certainly would have reached that point if it weren't for Mudima's famous address to the APR, which called for an end to the conflict and was filled with promises of a more, true-to-the-books form of Democratic Socialism.

"And what would cause them to reappear?" inquired a slightly-agitated Tariro. "If you paid attention to the APR the first time, you would know that they felt we were sacrificing our focus on the general welfare of the people towards combating the PLA. If we attack the PLA without provocation, and they publicize the killing of innocents, the wound would open right back up," replied Commander Amadi.

Tariro seemed to concede to his point, as she exhaled and no longer appeared upset. "You're right, but this doesn't change the fact that the PLA needs to be destroyed. I must ask, Mudima, what is it that we are doing, then?" she said.

"Well, there is a plan, you see," began Mudima. "It involves some political espionage on the local level in the town of Lakka - where the majority of the PLA's weapons are manufactured. If we can win back this town in the West, and convince their warriors to fight for the DPRO, then we can establish a foothold just across the Nile, and from there we can begin more direct military operations on the weakened PLA."

"And you think we're just going to convince the fighters to give up their allegiances and give their lives for a cause they've devoted themselves to hating?" asked Tariro. "No, Tariro," said Mudima, in a firm tone that still didn't sacrifice his trademark kindness. "Our intelligence tells us that many of these garrison units are just locals who have been coerced into doing the PLA's orders. As we all know, the PLA installs 'sheriffs' in these towns to ensure that everything being done is done to benefit the PLA and its movement. Taking the sheriff out of the picture and a bit of propaganda can inspire those locals into a revolt. They're only accepting PLA control because they have no other choice, we can change this," he said.

"I'll trust you, Mudima. But mark my words, if we don't destroy the PLA this time around, they will cross the Nile and they will destroy us," said Tariro.

The Khagan has issued a letter of thanks today to the Kingdom of Durham after the outlawing of anti-Semitic persecution, which allowed Jews in Durham to receive equal pay for their jobs and not be discriminated on being Jewish alone. Khazaria had always been fair to Jews, making up to 80% of it's religious population, but it seems other religions are somewhat eclipsed, such as the Muslim population in the south-east, on the borders with the islamic Derbent, and a large orthodox population in Georgia, many of which have converted to Judaism in order to get better jobs or climb the social ladder. The shamanistic population is minimal, taking place in only a few villages in the north, where Rabbis never often voyage. Zoroastrianism however in this nation, is practiced only by people on the borders of the zealous Armenia, which survived the majority of Arabian invasions that fractured the Sassanids, and forced them to flee into Turkestan, which is also somewhat Zoroastrian, though that isn't to say it is outlawed in Khazaria. A tower of silence had recently been erected in a border town, and so has a fire temple, both built by the Khazarian Government, which protects religious minorities unlike Armenia.

A massive tank battle is now underway just west of the Don river, as Khazarian tanks encountered various rebel tanks. It began this very morning as tanks and infantry crossed the Don river, only to find a wave of rebel tanks heading towards them. The infantry has so far set up various anti-tank weapons which were carried with them, and artillery on the east side of the Don has begun bombarding in the direction and presumed location of those rebel tanks. Approximately 160 tanks so far are involved in the battle, including the varied reports of the numbers of enemy tanks, along with 60 infantry. To the south, the infantry, cavalry and artillery divisions have entered the bunkers and have advanced to within 100 kilometres of Feodosia, having quickly taken the villages of Sem Kolodezey (Nowadays Lenine) and Baherove. There are still reports of rebels in the Kerch bunkers, but they have had all entrances guarded and are strictly monitored.

Durham:

At the request of Prime Minister Carr, 2 destroyer-class ships, as well as a complement of 4 light cruisers and 14 corvette-class warships, were dispatched to aid Durham in fighting Mercian forces. They are expected to arrive in 2 days, and will blockade the Lincolnshire ports of Boston and Grimsby. An aircraft carrier is expected to be dispatched soon to allow for torpedo bombers to be dispatched over the North Sea.

Domestic:

The council has recently announced the opening of several new factories in Copenhagen, for the purpose of refining steel and alumnium, as well as a project to begin standardization of road paving across the Union, starting in Sweden, as well as plans to begin manufacturing more automobiles and transportational vehicles to aid the movement of supplies and citizens around the union. The construction of two new bridges, connecting Fyn and Lolland have also been announced, part of a project to create a national highway and bridge system, connecting mainland Denmark, Fyn, Lolland, Sjælland, and Sweden, providing a land route and the facilitation of transport across the Union. This project is estimated to reach completion in 1945 at current projections, but with the recent economical boom, partly founded by new foreign relations, this project deadline is expected to shrink by anywhere from 6 months to almost 2 years. Claus is reportedly overjoyed at this advancement he is in part helping to direct, saying that "I can only hope this means the beginning of a new Golden Age for not only Copenhagen, but the rest of Scandinavia and Europe too."
