Welcome to the roleplay thread of the Warzones. Chronically unstable, the Warzone countries can fight it out (or escape!) here. If you are a resident of a Warzone region, feel free to join the RP - or be left out.

Please, when joining the thread, state which modern day nations your territory covers. Residents of Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia can possess territories on their respective continents; those of Airspace and Sandbox can choose any territories. Please note that this RP does not require war to take place; it's just what's bound to happen. Also please note that the use of nuclear weapons is permitted.

[New Perotasoa]

The Federation of New Perotasoa consists of the territories of South Africa, Lesotho, Botswana and Namibia. The President, Bront, is a vicious dictator who is keen on expanding his military and eventually territory. The Navy is currently being prepared for a massive mission at St Lucia - an amphibious landing of enormous proportions is expected. The one question is: where?

The Foreign Ministry closed down a few hours ago as international diplomacy collapsed regarding Bront's vicious expansion of the military. Many fellow Africans fear a major arms race due to Perotasoan actions. Plus, Bront's policies are beginning to prove too much for the economy as inflation rises. The government will need to pull off something big if it is to survive.

[Kurwa Republic]

The Kurwa Republic consists of Poland and Russian Kaliningrad, because special Sandbox continent-choosing benefits. Donat Niemczyk, the President of the Kurwa Republic and Governor of the Warzone Sandbox, has made Kurwa thrive under his libertarian policies. Kurwa Republic is a greatly pacifist and capitalist nation, renowned for its people's freedoms.

One could argue that the Diplomatic Office of the government is the most important and focused. Janusz Sienkiewicz, the head Kurwan ambassador, has gained a reputation for his skill in negotiation. His next project is to see if the situation in New Perotasoa can be cooled down, as war is imminent in the region there, and the republic does what it can to bring about peaceful resolve.

This does not mean Kurwa's barracks are empty. They have a talented but small army, because Kurwa has no intention to involve itself in large-scale wars that call for every man available. As of the current moment, the army consists of 4,325,832 soldiers, based on documents from a man wh claims to specialize in economics.

[Dimension Facilities]

The Dimension Facilities are located under Luxembourg City, and are the countries main point of interest. The Prince is a puppet of Head Professer Yarlnard, with her 'troubleshooters' keeping the populace under control.
Since Luxembourg's official defense force is managed and supplied by France, there is little conventional military power, but the inventions of the Facilities hold many powerful secrets unknown, giving the nation a unique strategic importance. Something France would do well to keep under their wing.

[PLESSUR]

The Grey Leagues of Plessur include the Swiss canton of Graubünden and the Adriatic city of Trieste/Enttiro. It is at its peak, with democracy and rule of law strong and the economy booming. It exists in the shadow of the People's Republic of Rhaetia, its brutal predecessor state. The People's Republic had been controlled by the Rhaetian People's Party under the communist ideology of Kollism.

While this seemed all in the past, Kollism is making a return to Rhaetia/Plessur. Its two major parties, the Rhaetian People's Party and the Socialist Party, are doing well in polls for the upcoming election and have pledged to bring about a return of the nationalistic and communistic Kollism ideology. The Liberal Party, which has dominated Plessur's political history ever since its creation, are becoming increasingly scared of a return of the People's Republic. They are being tempted towards other methods of ensuring electoral success...

[New Perotasoa]

Off the south coast of Madagascar, twenty large warships loomed on the horizon. The slowly approached towards the palm covered shore, then stopped about 400 metres out. Everything remained stationary, frozen, for a few hours. Suddenly, missiles struck down the shorefront. Explosion was heard coming from the forest within the island. Helicopters dropped out of the sky and flew out onto the island from the shore. The air became filled with noise of guns and missiles. Then, 200 submarines rose out from the waves of the once peaceful blue ocean, and their huge bellies opened, spewing out 100,000 soldiers in uniform, who spread onto the shore as an unstoppable flow. The flag of New Perotasoa was raised above the ships.

At the same time, President Bront was giving an address on state television.

"Good morning. Today, the forces of the Perotasoan Federation have seized the island of Madagascar. Perotasoa shall be confined no longer to its borders. We shall show the world what is ours. Madagascar is liberated."

Followed by a simulated applause. Perotasoa was at war.

[Khronion]

The Allied States of Khronion, formed by portions of the pre-war nations of Britain and France on either side of the strait, represents one of post-War Europe's economic powerhouses. Boasting huge automated industrial resources and a strong professional workforce. Ostensibly a democracy, corporate interests rule supreme in its' relatively small fragmented territory. Nonetheless, the nation has maintained a great degree of stability by occupying a secure role as a key trading partner with international corporations.

The region's stability (economic and political) has much to do with its outsize military and law enforcement bodies... What this means for Khronion, its allies, and its enemies remains to be seen.

"Greetings, commander. Today's international briefing is ready for your review."

Admiral Collins sighed. "Anything out of the ordinary I should be aware of?"

"Some instability in the Warzone Airspace control zone. Nothing that's expected to spill into our locality though. Our satellites also detected some fleet movements in Warzone Africa, off the coast of Madagascar."

"Yes, I was just watching the news about that actually. Tell me, Colonel, what good are these reports if they can't come through faster than the international news?"

"Ah, well... I don't write these reports. You'd have to take that up with Analytics."

"Very good... dismissed." Admiral Collins sighed again. What was the point of maintaining such a large military if there weren't any wars going on where said military could get involved? He chucked the report in the wastebin without looking at it. Another report labeled "SUPPLY CHAIN STATUS" followed it, followed by "URGENT: YEARLY PERFORMANCE REVIEW QUESTIONNAIRE." He picked up "BUDGET REPORTS" and paused. His trash can was full. It was going to be a very boring day in the office...

OOC: Does anyone want a portion of mainland Australia? I'd like the whole thing, but I'll start with Victoria, Queensland and NSW in case anyone wants a piece.

Garden Island Naval Base, Sydney
Although the commonwealth government had come a long way since the informal ceasefire that marked the end of the last global conflict, Australia (better known simply as "Straiya" due to the accent and pronunciation of the common folk), only controlled roughly a third of its pre-war territory.

Until recently, the Australian Defence Force had been far too busy processing migrants fleeing from communist regimes across the waters to the north. But now, after years of turmoil, the country was getting back on its feet. Everyone, or nearly everyone, had a roof over their head, and food on the table. Soon enough they would be able to march across the continent and claim what had once been theirs.

It was in this mindset that Admiral Lewis gave his speech before christening the HMAS Wallaby - The latest vessel to enter service with the Royal Australian Navy. If another, more militaristic country had built it, the Admiral mused, it would be called a supercarrier, and hailed as the pinnacle of military technology. To Australia, it was simply an Aircraft Carrier. A good carrier, to be sure, and the best the ADF had ever seen. But nothing worth boasting about, no. For Australians in this new era, victory in wartime and security in peacetime were the only things worth boasting about.

The government of Plessur is very alarmed by New Perotasoa's invasion of Madagascar. Well, it was a warzone, but if we want to stop the instability somewhere what better place than now?

With this in mind, the President of Plessur, Christian Geeser, has called for a Warzone-wide summit, where war and instability must be discussed. The Rhaetian Army has been put on alert, as a political gesture of disapproval to New Perotasoa.

[New Perotasoa]

After two days of fighting, Perotasoan troops have reached the Indian Ocean on the eastern coast of Madagascar. Forming a giant chain of troops, they have begun advancing north, destroying all defences across the whole island. Aircraft have been sent to bomb all the largest cities and towns, as well as military bases across the country. The General of New Perotasoa has declared the new Commonwealth of Madagascar to administer the island. The Constitution declares Madagascar to be a "perpetual colony of the Perotasoan people" and the "people of Madagascar shall forever be slaves to Perotasoa". The Foreign Ministry of New Perotasoa has been re-established, with the explicit intention of "making the world know that none shall stand independent in the face of the will of Perotasoa".

[Straiya]

Capitol Hill, Canberra

On the quiet, well kept streets, snow-white concrete sidewalks, and lush green gardens which encircled Parliament House, the checkered red cars of the Australian Federal Police stood out as a sure sign of the importance of the legislation being debated inside. Anyone who had pain any attention whatsoever to the media knew of the proposals introduced by the National party for an offensive which would lead the ADF beyond the east-coast "safe zones" and into the forgotten outback.

A handful of relatively docile protestors had gathered on the steps of parliament. Of the perhaps two dozen demonstrators, only two or three could truly be said to be actual pacifists. The rest were simply in disagreement about whether now was an appropriate time to devote resources to a prolonged campaign. What with tensions in Africa and parts of Europe, was now really a good time to open a new front?

The proposal passed, of course. Prime Minister Bindi Irwin, who had been elected in the immediate aftermath of the Great War mostly by virtue of being a public figure that everyone could identify, gave a speech on the grand ambitions detailed within the Australian Reclamation Act. Of great interest to the unemployed was the renewed push for recruitment into the armed services, and the promise of new jobs as the operation got underway.

Australian Army Outpost, Line of Control, NSW

Colonel Watson was on the verge of pulling his hair out, and the actual operation hadn't even started. Although the new law had only passed less than an hour ago, the Minister of Defence had been shifting assets around for several weeks. Of course, without actual permission to do such shifting of assets, the moving had been done haphazardly and halfheartedly, with troops and supplies always arriving early or late, and never at the same time. Now that the act had been passed, trucks, munitions and food had arrived in huge quantities- and there was nowhere to put it all. Although this problem was obviously the better of the two, it was still immensely frustrating.

The instructions had been to ship out tomorrow afternoon at the latest. Allegedly, the RAAF would be dropping fliers in the towns ahead of them, to lessen resistance. This meant that the army had to make itself visible within a reasonable timeframe. Colonel Watson closed his eyes and prayed to God that somehow, the operation would come together. Despite the maddening situation both militarily and politically, he did believe in the reclamation of the rest of Australia.

[Kurwa Republic]

With Kurwa Republic's populace shocked and appalled by the actions of the New Perotasoan government, President Niemczyk decided to do something. After a "liberation rally" organized by a few persons with deep pockets, Janus Niemczyk gave a speech to the public. He called for the salvation of the Madagascan peoples and others oppressed by the ruthless dictatorship of New Perotasoa.

However, soon political beliefs were being divided. Moved by the news of the Perotasoan ventures, a good bit of the Kurwan populace began to call for war with Perotasoa. The rest of the populace either tried their best to upkeep the country's pacifist idealogy or didn't care at all. Although reluctant to act on Perotasoa, Janusz knew that it would be difficult to pick one side without making the other dissented.

As of yet, Kurwa would not declare war unless diplomatic compromise failed and the country's people moved to act. Kurwan diplomats were sent to New Perotasoa to discuss a peaceful solution to the problem, urging the cease of Perotasoan war policies and the fair treatment of its citizens. Already, Kurwan presses were telling stories of crying Perotasoan children, dreaming of one day having the basic human rights deprived of them. This all was a problem for Kurwa, without a doubt.

The Perotasoan Foreign Ministry has had a bit of a field day. It has sent two messages to two of its embassies: that in Kurwa Republic and Straiya.

TO Kurwa Republic;

Perotasoa demands that the government of the Kurwa Republic withdraws its demands for negotiation and adopts an official stance neutral to the Perotasoan War of Greatness. The people of Perotasoa shall not be held in, and you must appreciate this. If you do, Perotasoa promises that the war shall not expand beyond the Mediterranean. The Kurwa diplomats are urged to attend a meeting tomorrow night in the Presidential Palace, entitled Friends of Perotasoa, where Perotasoan plans for expansionism and your role in it shall be detailed.

TO Straiya, heirs of Australia!

Perotasoa feels an affinity to the people and desires of Straiya, the Australian State. We recognize your right to the whole of Australia and are willing to assist you in your plans for expansion. The Perotasoan Army will work together with the Australian Army. In order for this to happen, we ask that a delegation of Australian diplomats attend the Friends of Perotasoa meeting tomorrow in the Presidential Palace. There, Straiya will officially be recognized as the Australian State and an ally of Perotasoa.

Our envoy will still be authorized to agree to a pact of friendship and cooperation, and to negotiate any further details, and we look forward to a bright future as allies.

"The Australian Defence Force launched its reclamation offensive today, with the RAAF dropping thousands of leaflets on rural farming towns in former Northern Territory and South Australia. The planned ground offensive has been delayed owing to logistical problems, but small cursing have taken place near the old line-of control. So far, troops report only one instance of resistance. Of the rebels in question, two were arrested, while one was killed in action. There were no casualties for the soldiers.

According to official reports released by the M.O.D, the main goal for this first leg of the offensive is to secure a passage Adelaide, which has remained relatively intact under the control of the local government, albeit out of reach of the federal government.

In other news, the Minister of Defence made a public appeal for more young men and women to volunteer for the armed services amid discussion in parliament of bringing back a period of mandatory service. Sources have stated that the proposal would not amount to conscription and that young people would be given a choice for community service. So far no MPs or ministers have come fourth to propose a bill to the House of Representatives. This is Sarah Heloise reporting for ABC news."

The government of the Grey Leagues has declared an ultimatum to New Perotasoa, to halt taking the whole of Madagascar and remain where it is, with no further war. If this ultimatum is not obeyed, Plessur will consider using military means to achieve peace. Straiya is also urged to halt all military activities if it wishes to remain unharmed.

Nonetheless, we believe it is prudent and timely to reiterate that unchecked military conquest has the potential to destabilize not only regions, but the entire world. As we continue to recover from the devastating Global Wars that reduced the five continents into devastated warzones, we urge the Perotasoan government and neighboring regions to exercise caution in its use of force.

Amateurs, he thought. The whole lot of them amateurs. Turning to his chief aide, he said, "I want submarines in the Indian Ocean, ready for quick deployment to Madagascar or Australia, should the situation develop further. The air force needs to be running regular launch drills to prepare for 10-minute launch windows."

Deep within the bowels of the Facilities, H Pr Yalnard, made an incision on the rats hind leg, and picked up some tweezers. Red blood drops ran from the cut, and onto the sterilized cloth that the rat rested on. Tweezers in hand, Yalnard grasped a tiny microchip, and carefully inserted it into the wound.

Prince Cédric Levett sat on his royal throne, and listened absentmindedly to the chatter of his officials. As the hubbub rose and fell, he decided to get things sorted out. He cleared his throat, and the room feel silent.
"What you're telling me, is that Perotasoa has invaded Madagascar? What's their justification for this heinous crime?"
The room once again filled with anxious voices as they all tried to talk at once. After the room had returned to silence, Levett continued.
What is the Belgium Union, Montpellier state, and Germany's stance on this? And what about Khronion?"

Yarlnad was waiting for her pet to wake up. Maybe he would be of more use, now he had been fitted with the latest technology DMF had come up with. But she would have to wait and see. She had just read the report of foreign activities, and was concerned about this whole Madagascar-Perptasoa debacle.

Seraph-Class Carrier "Azrael," commanded by Fleet Adm. Ashton Sherridan
Theater of Operations: Pacific Ocean, 300 miles off the coast of Madagascar

The Azrael is a behemoth of a ship. Inside its gargantuan decks, some 230 aircraft are stationed. Should the situation necessitate it, it can launch up to half of its fighter complement within an hour. Along with its battlegroup, it represents Khronion's naval presence in Pacific theater of engagement, conducting long-term intelligence missions and providing support to allied and contracted groups. With the support of its battlegroup, it can sustain itself at sea for nearly half a year a time, especially with the assistance of air supply drops.

With the emergence of hostilities in Madagascar and Australia, the Azrael's battlegroup had been reactivated after a long dormant period during which its only activites consisted of hunting down traffickers in the Pacific Ocean. Not that hunting traffickers isn't fun, thought Admiral Sherridan. But he conceded it wasn't the reason why some 15 state-of-the-art naval ships were cruising around in the Pacific, thousands of miles from home. Pirates were easy to chase down, but in the end, didn't pose much of a tactical or strategic challenge to even the most novice fleet commander.

Two weeks ago, a full wing of prototype stealth recon planes had landed on the Azrael. Today, they would be finishing their final run-ups in anticipation of their deployments over Australia and Madagascar. For the next couple of months, the Azrael would be launching and receiving two of these planes every 12 hours on targeted low-altitude intel collection missions. Ostensibly, this was just a field test with no military significance, but Sherridan hadn't been Admiral for 12 years to not realize that every 'field test' was usually special ops lingo for 'highly-restricted covert operations.' A recent directive from the Khronion Joint Chiefs-of-Staff largely confirmed his suspicions, as it indicated that he would not have direct command authority over the new wing of recon planes.

"Flight deck is clear for launch, sir. Shall I give Alpha clearance to being launch procedure?"

"Affirmative. Alpha, you are clear for launch. Fly safe." There was a relatively quiet roar (apparently even stealth fighters were equipped with afterburners, just in case), and the first ship was away. Soon after, another followed it.

Allied Military Command, Titanium Port

"We're getting our first data feeds from Oculus deployments." An analyst projected a large map onto a screen in the center of the room. "And we're in." The map suddenly filled out with colors indicating suspected military concentrations in Australia and Madagascar. "We can't get close enough to give you visual ID of any deployments, but it looks like there is enough force concentrated in both areas to launch credible long-term offensives."

"Do we have any sort of intelligence that might be used to identify specific asset deployments?"

"Straiya troop deployments seem to be largely ground infantry. Mostly foot soldiers. Nothing that shows up on our sensors that would suggest significant artillery or tank deployments, but we can't be certain yet." The analyst paused as the screen shifted to Madagascar. "There's evidence of heavy munitions fire in Madagascar, which would corroborate media reports that New Perotoasoa has been conducting bombing runs on the island. There also would seem to be huge troop deployments on the Madagascaran shore."

"I would assume that there have been heavy civilian casualties as a result," Admiral Collins said.

"We're waiting on further intelligence, but most likely."

"Excellent. See to it that you have that further intelligence by our next briefing."

[New Perotasoa]

After a short speech and oath, the new governor of Madagascar, or the Perotasoan Commonwealth of Madagascar has been sworn in under the title of General Uol. He promised to control and rule Madagascar with an iron fist and to extract as much wealth as possible for the Perotasoan people.

Meanwhile, the Perotasoan Army has begun Operation Without Borders with an amphibious invasion of Heligoland in the North Sea. From now on, Heligoland will be controlled by the Perotasoan Army as a military base. Its exact use has been left unclear.

[PLESSUR]

The chamber is tense. Most believe that the President is about to declare war. Others know him well - he has far more tact than that.

After the initial hustling, the President arose to speak to the Parliament.

"Good evening to all.

"As you probably know, New Perotasoa has stretched its military activities to the North Sea. Considering that the North Sea is a sensitive point of interest for both Plessur and the rest of Warzone Europe, the Grey Leagues orders New Perotasoa to cease all its military activities there. We will reply with a military response if necessary.

"And to our allies in Warzone Europe, as well as the other Warzones: we cannot allow New Perotasoa to expand viciously, or Australia for that matter. We must form a coalition to protect our future and security. Plessur is prepared to do anything to assert its military independence."

A loud applause filled the hall. Meanwhile, the Defence Minister texted the Rhaetian General to mobilize the Rhaetian Army, including troops in the Engadine and Landquart valleys and the navy in Enttiro.

Recent Oracle patrols have identified the presence of New Perotasoan naval ships in the North Sea. The North Sea is a critical oceanic region to Khronion. The presence of non-allied naval ships presents an unacceptable risk to our commerce and sovereignty. Chief Executive K'ha Thon has summoned the New Perotasoan ambassador to explain these actions, but we are pessimistic that New Perotasoa will withdraw their fleets. Our allies in Plessur have identified several key fleet concentrations. Based on this intelligence, we are immediately deploying Oracle surveillance planes to track further fleet movements.

Effective immediately, all shore leave is cancelled. Military Command has authorized the use of deterrence force to dissuade further incursions by New Perotasoa. The Segomo and its battlegroup will be shipping out in the next 24 hours to the North Sea.

Techincal briefings for the Segomo and the new Oracle-class AWACS have been attached.

Role: Capital ship deterrence and assault

These warships are equipped with a veritable suite of anti-naval and anti-submarine weapons, and can be used to bombard coastal positions. They will also be found defending critical sea positions and deployment. Due to their large size, they are never deployed without an additional escort.

Role: Provide superior sensor/ECM capabilities in a small aerial package.

Unlike traditional AWACS aircraft, which can be as large as a commercial airliner, Oracle aircraft are similar in size to a fighter jet. Thanks to comprehensive integration of combined sensor feeds from up to eight aircraft in formation, Oracle wings can provide superior signals intelligence while maintaining a relatively low profile compared to a traditional AWACS.

These aircraft can be deployed in an electronic countermeasure (ECM) capacity. In this mode, they are capable of jamming targeting and communications radio feeds.

"Early this Afternoon, the nation of the Perotasoan Federation has invaded Madagascar. We have reports of bombing runs reducing the civillian centers to rubble even after the attack. This tyranny, for many of us, is fresh in our minds, and now we see standing before us the face of all that is wrong with our world. After a short, and secret, meeting, the Perotasoan government has declared war on Khronion, the Grey Leagues and Vesuvia. The Perotasoan Army possesses the capabilities to fight a multi-front war and make Perotasoa the victor. The President has promised to fight to the last man and last gun.

Meanwhile, the amphibious invasion of Heligoland has begun, with amphibious troops supported by a retinue of military helicopters, who are looking for resistance on the islands to shoot down. While this is technically a defensive operation, all patrol groups will be shipping out in hunter-killer configurations with ROE weapons-free. Have no mercy on any belligerents that cannot be identified as regional allies."

He pulled up a map of the North Sea. "The Segomo and its escort will also be conducting patrols, escorted by Charlie and Delta groups. Though our regions have differing histories, and may not necessarily see eye to eye on every issue that may emerge, we are all unified in our desire to see our borders secure from New Perotasoan aggression.

As of 0300 hours this morning, the flagship battlecruiser Segomo and its fleet have entered the North Sea theater off the shore of Northern Europe in response to encroachment New Perotasoan fleets, and are beginning threat deterrence operations. We are aware that the Grey Leagues and and the Celestial Vanguard of Vesuvia may be considering similar operations to secure our maritime sovereignty. Careful coordination will be key to maximize our success with a minimal of casualties.

Khronion is prepared to enter into an intelligence sharing and mutual aid agreement with the Grey Leagues and the Celestial Vanguard of Vesuvia in the North Sea theater. We propose the creation of a Allied European Coalition to make decisive strikes at any and all foreign encroachments in our regional waters.

Additionally, although we are not ready to commit to offensive actions in the Madagascan theater at this time, we are available to provide logistical support to current operations, and will evaluate the appropriateness of making force commitments to the region. The carrier Azrael and its battlegroup is currently on a reconnaissance mission off the shore of Madagascar, collecting information on New Perosatoan operations.
