Synopsis

Based on Namco's air combat series, this episode of Ace Combat: NationStates takes place in the NS world in Europe in a not too distant future. The European Union, replaced with a more universally tight knit and creative alliance of nations known as the LBP Union currently occupy most of Europe. In its backyard, the Balkans, economic collapse has resulted in what politicians came to refer to as the Lawless Zone. Anarchy rules most of the countries in the Balkans such as Croatia and Greece. With little attention payed to this area, the Union soon paid the price as a powerful neo-nazi, socialist terrorist organization rose to power in the Lawless Zone, using the starvation and deprivation as energy to give rise to hate and anger towards the slavs in Eastern Europe. A huge war machine sprung up as they augmented their power off of former Axis Alliance resources and by swiftly overtaking the poorly trained yet well equipped Soldier Wolves militias near Russia and Ukraine. Early in their campaign, they even took over an extremely powerful railgun network located in the former Khorne Empire, Central Turkey from the days of the Axis Alliance. The railgun ring, known as Stonehenge ensured the terrorist organization, dubbing itself the "Visarian Mandate," the ability to maintain complete and total air superiority in a 1600 kilometer radius. The Balkans, Eastern Europe and Asia-Minor were theirs for the taking.

Launching a massive campaign known as Operation Eternal Liberation, The LBPU's ISAF coalition and its allies from the north, Armellenia, launched a massive raid on territories outside of Stonehenge's firing range and eventually a successful air strike on Stonehenge itself. ISAF now begins to launch its operations to drive out Visaria from the land they have stolen. However, they appear to be working far too fast to be working alone. The terrorists are likely working in tandem with at least a few nations...

June 28th, 2015 - An LBPU squadron of F-16s at sunset near Croatia vanishes from radar in the Adriatic Sea. The only evidence of their disappearance is their screams over their radio. Confused military commanders rush to find the source of the disaster and issue a plea for help and warning to the rest of the world. A rookie pilot, Euphony, finds himself at Ramstein Airbase, hearing talks of deployment.

Soon after, Euphony finds himself deployed in a rescue operation to locate the downed pilots of Longsword squadron, lost in the disaster. If they can locate them, they may be able to find clues as to who or what shot them down. Finding himself working with a more experienced and competitive pilot, tac name Reaper, they form Melody Team. With foreign assets from Armellenia and Page, they manage to find a survivor, and begin to rescue him. However, a mass of hostile bandits arrives and attacks, creating a large battle over the skies of Istria. Finding these planes no issue, the experienced allied pilots, aside from the timid Euphony, make short work of the enemy. However, their efforts are for nothing as the sky lights up with large explosions. Forced to retreat and losing the rescue helicopter, the allies barely escape the fray. It was here they discovered the cause of the loss of the squadron. A large railgun network in central Turkey dubbed Stonehenge.

The terrorist organization responsible for commandeering the railgun network and the attacks in Croatia reveals itself as the Visarian Mandate, a fascist and neo-nazi esque organization taking advantage of the disorder in the Balkan Lawless Zone. Controlling massive swathes of Eastern Europe, the allies launch an offensive to retake East Germany, Poland and other countries outside the firing range of Stonehenge. A large airstrike is conducted on the rebuilt Tempelhof Airfield, controlled by the Visarian puppet state, the Großdeutches Reich. With complete success in destroying the airfield, they encounter an experienced squadron of Mig-31 Foxbats equipped with Hyper Velocity Air to Air missiles. While a challenge to handle, the allies are able to defeat the Quickshot team.

Deciding it was time to strike, the allies launch a massive airstrike from an ISAF carrier in the Mediterranean, South of Turkey, on the Stonehenge railgun network controlled by the Mandate. Skillfully avoiding the railgun's barrage by utilizing electronic warfare to mask their entry into the airspace, the allies manage to destroy the railgun. However, they encounter a prototype aircraft known as the TX-T Eclipse, a Union design stolen by the Soldier Wolves Militia, and then recovered by the Visarians after conquering them. Capable of arcane feats, such as hypersonic travel, a transformable frame, remote coffin support and even a missile laser defense, the allies were unable to destroy it.

With the railgun offline, the allies are now able to proceed to continue their operation to liberate Eastern Europe and the Balkans from the grip of the Mandate. The contingent from Ramstein is tasked with securing the airspace over the Carpathian Mountains near Ukraine in Area B7R, otherwise known as the Round Table. Many pilots had been tested here before, pitting their skills against one another in an equal arena. Making short work of the enemy resistance, the allies find themselves meeting a new ally, Judas Zero, who mysteriously appeared out of the blue requesting to assist without a nationality. They soon encounter a highly skilled squadron of Su-35 Superflankers, which do not appear to be Visarian aircraft. Forced into a vicious dogfight, one of the Armellenian Frostbite pilots is killed in action and Judas Zero is forced to bail out. The TX-T Eclipse appears again and seeks to settle the score with Euphony, and the Eclipse is shot down after an intense one on one dogfight. However, the TX-T was being piloted by remote...

Discovering the possibility that the Mandate may possess nuclear weapons, the allies launch an offensive to attack a possible site for ICBMs, the Avalon Dam, located along the Danube river. The fortress manages to launch the ICBMs but allied pilots manage to destroy the missiles after they launched. Judas Zero appears, flying a Su-47 for the Visarians. His identity is unknown to most of the allied pilots. In the end however, the Visarians fail to defend the Avalon Dam and it is destroyed by Euphony and Frostbite teams, which flew underground to attack the silos underneath the fortress shutters.

To eliminate the threat of the remotely controlled TX-T Eclipse fighters fielded by the Mandate, ISAF prepares a satellite launch at their aerospace center in the Comona island chain South of Italy. However, information is found by the Mandate and they launch an attack to sabotage the launch. Fielding an array of aircraft and a submarine armed with burst missiles to attack the facility, ISAF thought it had succeeded as the satellite's rocket launched and began climbing. Just before it reached boost phase, a TX-T Eclipse stormed in at Hypersonic speed and used upgraded laser pods to knock out the rocket before it could escape the atmosphere. The ISAF plan had failed. Fast approaching was the Anowan Navy, which had allied itself with the terrorists and drove the defense forces back to the ISAF Matera airbase in Italy, where it quickly had to prepare to defend itself.

Barely able to refuel and rearm planes entirely from the Comona engagement, ISAF forces rush to defend the airbase from both the Mandate and the Anowan forces, who utilize bombers and attack aircraft to assault the airbase. Engaged in tense dogfights during an ongoing storm, Matera was inevitably dealt catastrophic damage, rendering its runways useless. ISAF and Anowan/Mandate forces now retreat to plan their next move...

The Visarian Mandate shortly after the destruction of Matera airbase launches a massive cyberattack across the world which hijacks computer systems, secure networks and more. The source of this massive cyberattack is from the hyperefficient program known as DyOS, which they intend to use to overtake a prototype Union orbital laser, known as Project Jupiter. However, the Visarians also have access to any number of other nuclear stockpiles of nations, but haven't had the chance to break into these extremely secure networks just yet.

The allies decide to strike Bucharest, the location of the Mandate GHQ. Utilizing the Union Task Force 1st Airborne battalion, them most elite special forces battalion in the Union, the allies strike the GHQ with great speed, attempting to locate the underground position that the DyOS control room is located. Taking heavy losses, Reaper is killed by an Eclipse fighter. Three Eclipse fighters total showed up, and all of them shot down. Electromagnetic warfare was utilized against the UTF, in conjunction with the orbital laser, and communications were not secure. To top it off, IFF was also compromised, causing allied fighter bombers to attack their own ground units by mistake.

The control room was finally located by UTF combat engineers: right underneath a packed hospital. The hospital was evacuated, though the Visarians used the orbital laser to vaporize the position of the patients that were evacuated, killing them all. Leveling the hospital, the UTF bombing strike destroys the control room and cuts them off from DyOS, but it is apparent that the leadership is still alive, though the Visarian Mandate has been defeated.

At debrief, a new team is formed, known as Task Group 114, Arrowblades. This team is composed of aces from around the world that participated in Operation Eternal Liberation. Euphony chooses to join this group to prevent any sort of disasters that could result in pointless deaths caused by the Visarians.

Rules and Such

Thought maybe I could try and reboot this RP one last time to kill some time. The rules are copied from the original thread which now left for the gravediggers. (Don't gravedig!)

This is a military conflict RP, however your writings should be in the point of view of pilots and the occasional international message or news report. The point of this is to develop of a story revolving around pilots of different countries flying together or dogfighting to the death in their eyes. While you will have to include strategic outlines as well, that is not the emphasis of the story-building. Progress the story through your main characters or squadron, and then progress your technical details through typical nationstates strategic description.

The main characters should develop in SKILL and PERSONALITY so you need to start your pilots off with regular 3rd or 4th gen aircraft rather than 5th gen OP Raptor spam. Some starter plane ideas,

  • F-16 Fighting Falcon
  • Saab 35 Draken
  • F-4E Phantom II
  • Mig-21 Fishbed
  • F-5 Tiger II
And that's just multirole and air superiority. Theres plenty of options.

Next on the premise list is a SET VILLAIN group controlled by me to help progress the story. You can side with them or against them, it doesn't matter. They will challenge each of their enemies with a superweapon of some sort. If you like Ace Combat, you can probably guess what these will be. I have no set ending yet, so feel free to meddle around with the villain nation as you please and lets see where this goes!

Here's a few ground (air?) rules to keep everything in order,

1) No really good planes until later to show character skill development. (Stay away from Raptors and higher end Sukois or superplanes)
2) Keep aircraft limited to real life and playable aircraft in the Ace Combat series only. (But not from Ace Combat 3 you cheaters.)
3) No WMDs, world treaties prevent you from using these, as well as my ignore cannon. However, they will play a role later.
4) Ridiculous amounts of missiles and infinite gun are fine, but limit how much you fire at once to two unless you have 4 AAM equipped. This is an ACE COMBAT thread after all.
5) No goddamn Dogfight Mode you hackers
6) Keep it Rated T like in the games would ya?

Aircraft used have three weapons: Their gun, missiles, and a special weapon. You can have infinite gun, but after firing for more than 12 seconds it will need to reload. You can only fire two missiles at a time with a 5 second reload time. A list of acceptable SP weapons is listed here. Disregard the mentions of normal missiles and cannon, and remember to only equip SP weapons that can be equipable to a plane in ACE COMBAT INFINITY for simplicity. If the plane you're looking at isn't in ace combat infinity, use the SP weapon it uses in its respective Ace Combat game. If the plane isn't in any Ace Combat games, acceptable SP weapons are 4AAM, High Capacity AA Missiles (HCAA), and Unguided Bombs. If you need to look up infinity stats for a plane, just look up the plane with "Ace combat" in the search, and look at the ace combat wiki and scroll down and click the box to show the infinity stats.

As for location, The LBP Union essentially is a united Europe and parts of the western United States. If you really need spaces on this map, take the open white spaces. If your country is somewhere else in the world, we'll just let that remain ambiguous.

Find the Map Here!

In any case, jump in as you see fit. I'll try and make it easier to hop in. Have fun!

How To Jump In

Probably the first thing you should do is have part of your first post be some sort of explanation of how your nation wants to get involved with the side of your choice. A formal message will do. Next you should develop your character. Remember that you should want to develop your character so leave him room to grow. Don't go all Mobius 1 ace of aces outright. Unless your goal is to disrupt, don't simply interrupt an ongoing mission. Once you make your sort of announcement and development post, wait for then next mission to launch before you can deploy. This is so that realistically, the forces you've allied with have time to account for you in their battle strategy.

There is no signup application. Show us your characters rather than telling us about them. That will make you a better writer.

My current suggestion to you for jumping in right at this moment is to follow the above. There isn't a mission going on right now and now would be the best time to get involved if you'd like to get in on the action for the next mission, which I will hopefully get to posting about this weekend.

Godmodding rules are a tad different here. The general flights of Visarian aircraft are just there as filler. You may describe their destruction by your pilots' hands as you wish without fear of being accused of godmodding. So yes, "I shot him" is an acceptable phrase in this RP. However, things go back to normal when there is a sort of boss scene. Say, an elite enemy squadron appears or a new super weapon pops up. It is then that regular godmodding rules come back into play to sort of amp up the literary challenge. Godmodding rules against other players still applies, even for opposing sides.

As for the AWACS, you can take some liberties. They generally just announce what's going on anyway or reiterate things. Just don't get too radical and make one player's operating AWACS (one per mission unless otherwise specified) say things like "lol RTB for no reason" or "Egress WEAST lol."

If there's some sort of gray area I haven't mentioned, feel free to ask and discuss.

I have a bit of a question. What's the limit on the type of aircraft on the Mig-21 line at the current point in the RP?

No.
However, I have probably the second firmest grasp on this RP because I've really only been the guy who's done more than two or three posts before quitting, so I can probably whip one up real quick.

To be honest, there really isn't an application process, it really is the definition of open. But, you should ask yourself these questions.

Do you have a basic grasp of the Ace Combat series?

Do you have decent RPing skill and don't post one-liners?

Do you have a plane and pilot in mind?

Are you willing to dedicate yourself to the task and not drop out of the RP immediately?

Read a few posts on the IC and you should be set to start RPing.

Hey guys sorry I haven't gotten to a new post yet and haven't gotten to fixing the OOC up with some more info on how to jump in. I will probably get to handling it this weekend and I will add some easy guides on how to jump in without reading walls of text or copypasting big long signup sheets that take up too much time. Simplicity can be accomplished without being primitive. Armellenia has the questions down pretty good but if you are a bit lacking on knowledge or RP skill, that's no bother. If people are willing to learn then there is no shame in teaching!

As for character apps, those are silly to be honest. I think all writing should show and not tell. If you'd like to set up a list of things to develop your character, I suppose you can post it here but it is not required. I'm sure people would be happy to give you feedback on things if you post them here. We are all authors here and it should be all our jobs' to better ourselves by criticising one another constructively I suppose.

As for the Mig-21 question, I have seen some PIMPED OUT Mig-21s on ace combat infinity when the wallet warrior players upgrade them to level 10 and above. I really forget what SP weapons they perfer but they deck them out in high end modifications so they can handle like mid-tier planes. Quite interesting to have opponents underestimate the thing

I will be brainstorming the next mission to jot up for this weekend!

I actually have a completely legitimate lvl. 9 MiG-21 with full part slots on Infinity at the moment, just introduced the Su-24 as possibly a multirole for ground-oriented missions. If you're asking how I afforded the MiG: I did a sortie one day and got a golden crate with 880,000 credits in it, and still haven't spent any credits on any other aircraft past ordering them. I still have around 700,000 left I'm keeping for the updates through 11 or 12, maybe further. I suppose that in game aircraft represents Hydra's current aircraft.

I prefer the SAAM, and while it does handle like mid-tier planes I always get beaten to the targets by the folks who drag R-101's and X-planes into marked as mid-tier matches.

I've made some adjustments to the OP, and I will probably continue to do so as we go. There is now some tips on how to hop in smoothly, as well as an allegiance list. If people decide to hop in on the Visarian side, there will wind up being some side arc parts of my posts which are from the enemy perspective.

I've got some ideas for the next mission. If you're into prewriting and such, the next mission will likely be in Eastern Europe to drive out the Mandate from the slavic territories in the Carpathian Mountains over Romania and Ukraine, which will be a sort of makeshift B7R for this round, despite there not being a desert in the area like in Ace Combat Zero. There an interesting turn of events will unfold...

Too bad the music is more fitting for Spain, eh?

I'll perhaps make a character sheet to display a list of characters in the OP under spoilers with their respective emblems if available. Dunno yet. Anyway, stay tuned, I'm not dead yet!

If anybody is looking to hop into the mission, go ahead and do so now before we go any further. Just start it off with like a sort of introduction of how you aligned with the Union (and if you are aligning with Visaria, telegram me so I can help you out) and then have a time break and jump right into the Round Table.

The tech level, if you are confused, is Modern/Post Modern Tech. Should I make this clearer or did you know that already?

So I am interested in this RP, but there are a few of things I would need to ask about first.

1) Does my nation really have to be involved? I'm not really interested in having this be a canon RP for my nation so I would like to avoid that at all costs. I would, if you all prefer either fly a merc squad, a squad for one of the other nations, or an OpFor squad.

2) Are we sticking to the starter aircraft for everybody? You see, in AC I live and die by the Typhoon, and love that thing like there's no tomorrow. I know it is a little advanced compared to say the F-16, and a lot advanced then the Fishbed. But I've no interest in the super fighters or the raptor or some other OP bullshit like that. That being said I would be willing to start out in Fishbeds (and that will decide my background for characters as a merc squadron).

3) Generally speaking how much time would I need to commit during the average week to this thread?

1) Well you can do what some people do sometimes and just say "lol everything here isn't canon kthxbai" but Merc squad or another false nation works too I suppose.

2) Typhoon is a great aircraft, I'll admit. However, character development is better. I'm not going to hold you totally to the starter plane rule at this point in the RP, but in all honesty who likes a new character who is introduced as being the best with a mid-tier plane? Probably the best advice I can give to you is, how did you come to like the Typhoon so much and how will your character earn such an aircraft?

3) I have been only posting on weekends due to my schedule with school. Don't panic if nothing happens for a week. I think you'll be fine. Just I ask you don't totally zone out and disappear like somebody else that was in this thread...

1 & 2 can both be summed up relatively easily. It's not that I don't respect the RP, I just didn't want to make it a canon nation RP because I don't see my nation getting involved in a pissing match in the powderkeg of the world unless I was threatened directly, and at that point I wouldn't be sending just a squadron of planes. Anyway, what I was thinking that the squadron I'd be running would come from (if this is the real world, or the real world/strangereal hybrid of infinity) Spain, or Sapin for Strangereal, or some similar allegory if we're doing some other. Basically what I want to do is create a squadron similar, but different to an extended Espada squadron (from ACZ). Alternatively, I could involve my nation with these guys being either my mercs (a bit of a stretch, but I'll allow it from my side), or mercs hired by my nation (more likely).

As to the Eurofighter, it would make sense that Spaniards would use it, as they do in real life. In another world, I guess the story would be the same. However, if more justification is required I could say (since there is going to be a B7R allegory regardless as far as I've heard on this thread), that my squadron has adopted a nap of the Earth tactic during the approach to help neutralize the advantages of stealth and get in close enough to fight the raptors close in where the Typhoon excels. My character/s/ likes the Typhoon because it handles well for an older (in AC universe) plane, and has lower maintenance (timewise) requirements allowing them to fly more sorties. The player likes the Tyhpoon because they think it is really fun and does indeed love to blast aforementioned super planes out of the sky. As to how such an aircraft is earned, going from the nationals standpoint they were issued the plane. IF we're dealing with a merc squad, they would have started with a larger squad with older birds (prolly F-16s), and later changed to the Typhoon as members of the squadron died out, as the mercs got better with the craft, they eventually garnered a reputation with the Typhoon as a trademark craft. They kept it because it was their trademark.
