OS, If you'd prefer me to be independent, then independent it is! Being that I'm independent, and have a fair amount of control, is there a cap on number of ships I can have, or am I allowed to have as many as I currently have at maximum, possibly crewed with fewer people (depending on my whole slave soldier concept and all)? Hmm... I didn't think about that when I was just throwing down crap for the application... I might change his name!

So the brief background I will provide (this will come out within my intro in the RP itself) is this: The Red Plague hits Aigéantir much in the way that it did the rest of the world, quickly and furiously. Being that Aigéantir is located in the Western Hemisphere, and therefore one of the "privileged" nations, the government had plans in place, but these safeguards proved useless. The outbreak arrived via an international flight, and before the entire flight could be quarantined, several individuals had made it out of customs and into the airport proper. Due to the highly infectious nature of the disease, very short incubation period, ability to survive outside a host for extended periods of time, and multiple vectors of transference, the disease easily escaped the confines of the airport and entered the general population. In an organized attack that took out many of the monarchs, the High King and the Prime Minister were killed, (leading to the beginnings of a revenge plot that would lead to the resistance), and the crowning of the only (conveniently) surviving monarch, King Conall VII (Devin Breckinridge). He dispenses some drugs that are meant to halt the effects of the disease, but seeing their addictive properties, decides to force the population to trade military service for the drug. The addictive nature of the drug ensured that even the most regretful soldier stayed loyal, as the withdrawal was worse than the effects of the disease itself. Those in the elite who have managed to stay clear and safe of the disease, and set themselves up with supporting Devin have had the privilege of living within the walls of Devin's Gift, an approximately 300 square mile walled "safe zone" around Saira's Watch in the middle of Dovenn City. Now in the year 2019, with Devin's power secured, he has announced a plan to begin raiding the laboratories of the Organized States in an attempt to find and learn the secrets of the supposed cure, and perhaps find a way to continue holding the balance of power in his favour. He knows his actions will likely cause problems with his neighbours, but by being one of the few nations with a strong military means that Devin may gain the chance to exercise his growing expansionist desires in what he believes to be a world wiped clean of other, more inferior cultures.

Also, about the disease itself, here's what I'm thinking:
- Can survive up to 48 hours outside of the host's body
- Incubation period lasts 24 - 72 hours
- Passed via direct contact, waterborne, and airborne
- Animal vectors include rats, bats, and mosquitoes (Let me know if mosquitoes is too much!)

This is when my medical anthropology/epidemiology side of me starts coming out!

I suppose that it might not (rabid rat), but with rats and fleas kind of being a package deal, I automatically assumed fleas along with rats. Since I hate ticks, I have to agree that this would be interesting. You aren't safe in the urban areas or the wilderness!

Airborne would make one assume that all "infected" locations would thusly be inpassable without CBRN suits or masks of somekind.

Instead of rabies-based, it could be fungal. That would make it easily airborne. Spreading by spores.

I thought Niels was only the factor that allowed it to mutate far worse than it originally did. I can't remember what the original reason for the outbreak was (Egypt at the beginning).... I'd assume that if it's smallpox-based it would have been accidental or malevolent tampering within one of the labs from either the US (Organized States in this case), or Russia. Of course there could be the terrorist option, or a complete accident after the events of last summer (4 vials of smallpox virus along with other diseases were found in a forgotten cold storage place (that wasn't really that secure) belonging to the NIH before the place was transferred to the FDA http://www.cnn.com/2014/07/08/health/smallpox-virus-found/ - funny how I never heard about this before).
