Long Live Yamalia

June 26th 1961 - 1405 local time, Somewhere on central Yamalia - Zolev-Yarmalan War, Zolevskoy People's Army, 19 degrees Celsius - Mostly Sunny

A long field, with rows upon rows of trenches, laid in a vast field of grass and flowers, with a few trees. Both sides were battling: the Yarmalan People's Liberation Army to the north, and the Zolevskoy People's Army to the south. In this field, a major battle was taking place. The northern and southern trenches were separated by only about 150 meters.

Zolevskoyan T-55s and T-62s fought against Yarmalan T-55s and T-62s in a vast field, the latter army bearing simple olive drab camouflage on their tanks and the former bearing also olive drab camouflage, but with several coyote-tan stripes on the hull and turret. Each side was firing at each other, with 100mm and 112mm shells bouncing off of and penetrating the armor of each other tanks. Artillery rained down upon each side, exploding and making craters in the vast grasslands. It destroyed a few tanks, though it mostly disabled them.

Finally, a Zolevskoyan soldier stood up from his trench. He wore his combat uniform, which was essentially the same as everybody else's for the most part, and held an AKM assault rifle. in his hands. Inspecting the battlefield ahead of him for a few seconds, he then turned back and waved his hands forward, at the same time yelling at the top of his lungs "Taj korak napred! Ne jedan korak nazad!!" ("Move forwards! Not one step back!!"). Almost immediately, hundreds of ZPA soldiers came out of their trenches, and began rushing forwards towards the enemy trenches. The infantry passed by tanks, infantry passed by tanks, sprinting north despite enemy ordinance falling upon their positions. The Yarmalans simply stayed in their trenches, engaging the enemy forces with their Kalashnikovs. Zolevskoyan soldiers dropped like flies; both wounded and killed, yet they showed no fear as they ran while at the same time yelling their war cries and displaying their war faces. ZPA soldiers returned fire with their rifles, though with minimal accuracy.

Corporal Slovoban passed by a disabled tank, think black smoke coming from the engine. It's 2 crew members that were alive were being treated by their comrades. Aiming his rifle forwards towards the Yarmalan forces that were entrenched, he fired off a few 5 round bursts. His comrades were laying wounded and dead on the ground all over him, with over 80 out of the 300 ZPA soldiers killed already.

And then time froze. Slovoban fell over face first, a sudden surge of pain in his chest area. He attempted to sit up, but it only made the pain even worse. A 7.62x39mm bullet was lodged in his body. But ahead of him, Sergeant Josip noticed his comrade laying in the grass; blood pouring out of him quickly. The sergeant came up to him, took a knee in front of the corporal, and set his AKM down on the ground.

"You're going to make it, druže." Josip told Slovoban as he took the rear of his collar and dragged him behind a destroyed Zolevskoyan T-55.

However, fate had other plans for the two. As soon as both soldiers were behind the T-55, an artillery shell landed only 5 meters away. Both Josip and Slovoban along with 6 other Zolevskoyans were immediately killed in the explosion.

Present day

01/05/2014 - 4:42 PM, East Yamalia - Somewhere near the Zolevskoyan/Lossesian controlled territory border

Daniel walked down the dirt road, returning from the nearby town of Moglovka. He had a paper bag in his left hand, and his right hand was free. The scenery was quite nice, especially since the trees and other shrubbery had just bloomed after long, dreary winter. It was about 16 degrees Celsius, the average temperature for this time of year. It was partly cloudy in the skies, and the forecast was calling for a thunderstorm risk. A bike being rode by a child who was about 11 years old or so went by, and the wind from it blew Daniel's brown leather coat and blue jeans, and nearly blowing his black beret off. Living in a technically lawless territory run by four sides at once was often difficult, but his area was one of the safest areas considering it was just a log cabin near about 80 acres of farmland.

A helicopter could be heard in the distance, although it was most likely just another civilian Mi-8 Hip. Though, it could be military due to the increasing tensions between all the four fighting factions in Yamalia. And it was. A Republic of Zolevskoy Armed Forces UH60M was patrolling the skies. Daniel continued walking, as the UH60 was flying the opposite way, and was at least 1000 meters or so away. Soon enough he would be home.

...

Opening the front entrance door to his cabin, Daniel looked around as he set the bag on the kitchen table. The house he owned wasn't too fancy, but was enough to live in. The table he set his bag on had four wooden chairs around it, and there was a fireplace stove in the corner of the room, a cabinet and a counter near it. The walls were a simple yellow-tan shade and the floors were wooden. The door to the bedroom creaked open, and a lady in her late fifties came out. It was Daniel's wife, Dolina. She was wearing a simple blue Sarafan, a traditional Zolevskoyan dress for women.

"You have eggs and bread, yes?" The two things Daniel forgot. Crap. "Look, yes I forgot both. But can't we just wait for the chickens to lay their eggs, and I can just go get the bread tomorrow? My legs are killing me..." Daniel said in a whiny voice. "No, the chickens are laying their eggs in a week, and I need both eggs and bread now for tomorrow morning and tonight. You go get them!" Dolina commanded. "Damnit, fine..." Daniel mumbled under his breath, afterwards letting out a sigh. "I'll be back in a bit." He opened the front entrance door once again, which creaked due to it's age. In the distance he could see some vague shapes on the road coming towards the house. "Who the hell's this?" They appeared to be some sort of Jeep-looking vehicles.

Although he couldn't tell exactly due to the heat waves, there seemed to be three of them. They seemed to be military. But the better question was, why were they coming anyways? Daniel & Dolina pretty much an isolated family. Of course, Daniel did have an AKM rifle in his house, but only for defense. Still, there would be no reason for someone to come to his house without an invitation.

Eventually, the vehicles pulled up in front of him. Sure enough, at least ten soldiers who were wearing military gear came out of the vehicles. Most of them wore TTsKO BDU shirts, complete with olive drab steel helmets, black combat boots, brown combat webbing, and olive drab BDU pants. Some of them wore olive drab BDU shirts, though. Nearly all of them were armed with LAR-57 assault rifles, but some of them had a GP-25 grenade launcher mounted on them, and some even had a LMMG-69 machine guns.

After a few seconds of trying to figure out what was going on, one of the men with a LAR-57 walked towards Daniel, while aiming his rifle at his chest. "Get the fuck down now! Now!! With your damn hands on your head!!" Daniel was already panicking when he aimed his rifle at him, and now was flat-out disoriented. "I SAID GET THE FUCK DOWN!!" The soldier knocked Daniel down on the ground forcefully, by kicking the back of his left knee with his foot. Three men began entering his house by kicking the door down. Two more men came to Daniel, and pointed their rifles at him. "W- Wh- Why are you doing this....?" Daniel pleaded the men surrounding him for an answer. "You're illegally settling in our territory. Therefore you face the consequences just like very other Lossessian citizen!"

The men who forcefully entered the house came out with Dolina, and his AKM in one of the men's hands. The man, who already made Daniel's day shitty enough pushed him over with his foot, so he was face-down in the dirt. "Found this rifle in his closet." an unknown, but younger sounding voice said from behind him.

Daniel could feel the steel of the end of a rifle's barrel push into the back of his head, and could hear his wife screaming.

Legatian Imperial Armed Forces
Legio IV Augusta Victrix
Castrum Firmum, Northern Zolevskoy
May 1st, 2015- 11:14 A.M. Local Time

The first signs of spring had finally arrived for the miserable occupants of Castrum Firmum, the first to suffer through a harsh Zolevskoyan winter. Soldiers were able to depart on leave back to the Imperial Provinces to see their wives, girlfriends, and family. The rest of the five thousand men stationed there enjoyed themselves through a variety of methods- baseball, football, running competitions, marksmanship, the occasional occupational instructor that could instruct soldiers on new skills or even certify them to do specialized jobs or activities, or watching TV- a luxury recently provided to them.

A group of pilots that were on a single-day excursion to Firmum to resupply it sat in the rec room, watching live feed of the first launch of the Spatiae Administrationem's second operational shuttle, Orion, as it lifts off from Columbianus Space Center in Portus. One of the pilots began discussing statistics and solid rocket boosters while his crewmates largely ignored him for lack of interest. The talk suddenly ceased when jet engines began to sound in the distance, as they suddenly roared over the rec room at a low altitude, sending it's occupants into curses.

"Fucking cocky-ass Comitatense pilots with their fancy ass jets.." One of the soldiers scowled, as two of Legatia's latest and greatest pieces of military technology pitched to the east and away. The club gave a disgruntled groan of agreement before returning to calling each other's girl harlots, laughing, drinking beer, eating snacks, and other occupations of day-to-day military life.

Until gunshots rang out, that was.

The base's alarm blared, the men in the rec room rising up, grabbing PIL-V rifles and helmets and rushing out the door. The entire Legion went on alert. Boots kicked up dust on the road as a few transports roared down the road.

A rattle of gunshots from .50 caliber machine guns started to emanate from the west gate. The yells of the Legionnaires and the cries of injured men were drowned out in rifle and machine gun fire. A huge explosion rang the ears of the soldiers, a sizable black plume pushing out from the gate.

"What the fuck's going on?!" A Decanus yelled to his Tesserarius, holding his rifle by the middle of the barrel as he ran with it, flipping the buttstock up and catching the grip with his right hand, pulling the bolt as he neared the gate.

"Fucking ambush, I don't know!" The Tesserarius slid to a halt behind a chipped concrete barrier. A PTTV was parked as to block off entry, the .50 BMG firing at moving targets. A dozen bodies lie in the open past the base, and about four within it.

"There's like a fuckin' hundred of 'em!" The gunner yelled, loading another belt, emptying a water bottle on the smoking barrel, and resuming the "ping-ping-ping-ping-ping"ing of the machine gun. A HA-6T Carparth quickly joined the fight, swinging a hard turn before opening up with it's chaingun.

BMPBMPBMPBMPBMPBMPBMP

The tiny explosions kicked up by the 30mm chaingun's impact tore the assailants apart. Those with half a brain fled immediately, taking off back into the forest. The helicopter didn't pursue, simply swiveled around, searching for more hostiles.

The totals came up: 3 Legatians dead, 12 wounded. Dozens in the field were dead, none of them Legatian. A soldier in full gear kicked a body, disgusted. "They're fucking /reds/."

"What the fuck are communists doing this far south? These don't look like regulars."

"That's cause they're not, dumbass. No fucking regular army would send a hundred men against a heavily fortified military base."

"Then who the hell are they?" A soldier clad in his camouflage pants, boots, an olive-drab undershirt and a helmet, a PIL-V held diagonally across his chest as he approached.

"Zolevskoy Democratic Republic Party." A soldier called, kneeling in front of one whose head was a mushy mess- likely hit directly.

"How the hell do you know that?" "Look at the armband." The red, black and green banner with a red star of the ZDRP was wrapped around a soldier's arm.

"But why the fuck are they attacking us?" A soldier asked, as a congregation began to grow. Capsuariats (combat medics) rushed to the wounded and dying of the ZDRP, applying morphine and IV, carrying them off in stretchers.

"Gods know, but I've got a feeling this isn't the end of it."

Legatian Imperial Armed Forces
Legio IV Augusta Victrix, Duces Legionis
Praetorium, Castrum Firmum
May 1st, 2015- 1:10 Local Time

The 60 Centurions of IV Augusta Victrix and the 6 Tribunes attached to it gathered in the Praetorium- or officer's quarters, where the Tribunes and Legatus stayed, as well as where officers met, which is why the 67 men that commanded the Legion sat in the room. Sat at round-ended rectangular tables, the Legatus, dressed in his formal armor pacing the room, impatiently. He had the face of regret about him.

"Today, at approximately eleven hundred twenty hours local time, this base came under attack by a cell operating under the Zolevskoy Democratic Republic Party. Communists." The room shifted, groaning. "As you know, we've been monitoring rising tensions between Yarmala, Zolevskoy, and the returning Lossessin." The Legate used his laser pointer to point out locations. "The ZDRP would love to make our good ally a red haven, but they're the least of our worries."

"Sir, with due respect, 3 of our men were killed by these terrorists." A Centurion spoke, choosing his words carefully. "Do you really mean to think that they are the least of our worries?"

The Legate gave a low sweep of his hand, dismissing him. "I know what I said, Centurion. They /are/ the least of our worries because soon enough New Rome is gonna drag us into the fucking shitter over this new set of tensions. I've got word from Anax that the Councillum just called an emergency meeting over this bullshit."

A few yells came from next door- presumably an Optio or a Hastillarius training troops in the Principia.

"Get your men ready for deployment. Have them pack up for campaign."

Mumbles went around the room.

"Sir, campaign?"

"Yes, fucking campaign. Does anyone in this fucking Legion hear anything?" The Legatus rolled his eyes, silencing the room.

The Legatus' rants silenced the confused Centurionate and Tribunate.

"We'll likely be going into Yamalia itself to push down insurgents and bully the commies, who knows. I'll be getting word from the Councillum later today. Expect to be here after dinner. Dismissed." The men rose, departing the Praetorium.

"Oh, and gentlemen!" The Legatus called.

"That doesn't leave this room."

The sea foamed and swirled about the hull of URS Ginza as she made her way off the coast of Yarmala along with URS Tsukiji, both were amphibious assault ships from the Republic of Urran. Along their sides were three frigates, a patrol submarine, and two destroyers from the Urranese navy. Ginza was carrying 35 helicopters and acting as a hospital and supply ship, whereas Tsukiji was carrying a small fighter wing plus more supplies for the humanitarian mission being set up in Yuglav. However, the Republic had plans to set up small hospitals, schools, and other necessary facilities in the embattled country.

950 peacekeeping troops were held within the two vessels, and civilian volunteers were en route via military transport. A few C17's were on their way from Urran to the Yuglav airport with many tons of medical and school supplies for the humanitarian effort. Urranese media outlets had made a point to give the mission wide coverage and explicitly state that it was a humanitarian and peacekeeping effort only and that they would not be getting directly involved in any squabbles unless attacked first. However, that didn't mean that they were not packing heat.

"So that makes...70 IFV's total." a load master remarked.

"Remind me, why do we have so many? I thought this was a humanitarian effort, not a small scale conflict." another soldier asked, making sure that a palate of supplies was secured.

"So we can defend ourselves if necessary, and to transport troops quickly. There have been a few squabbles and we don't want to get caught up in one without a way to fight our way out of it."

"Ah, that makes sense then."

Meanwhile, on the bridge of Ginza, the commander in charge of the Urranese force made an attempt to contact Yuglav and Yarmala as they prepared to enter the region's waters.
A lie doesn't become truth, wrong doesn't become right, and evil doesn't become good just because it's accepted by a majority.

East Yamalia
Somewhere near the Zolevskoyan/Lossesian controlled territory border

The three M-ATVs and two Cougar Hs pulled up to the small farmhouse, passing several local police Škoda Octavias and a few Zolevskoyan APCs before the platoon of Infantrymen from the 4th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division, dismounted from their vehicles and set up their own security perimeter, adding to the cordon already in place from Local forces. Yamalia Force, or YFOR, was an OS formation stationed in Zolevskoy to help monitor the shaky peace between the warring factions, primarily coordinating law enforcement in disputed areas, arresting suspected war criminals, and raiding terrorist hideouts. YFOR was extremely well-equipped for what was primarily a peace-keeping mission. A-10E Warthogs and F-35A Lightning IIs of the OSAF backed the 4th Infantry Regiment, 5th Aviation Regiment, and the elements of the 33rd Calvary Regiment with their Strykers, M-ATVs, and M1A3s. It had been fairly quiet since the rough days of the 1990s and the early 2000s, however and YFOR quickly became a cushier and cushier combat deployment. 2nd Lt. Mark Reynolds didn't mind the quiet, really. With a 6-Month TDY and never much going on, Reynolds did a lot of running, receiving first in the Regiment for a 5-minute mile. The events of this evening were actually the most action he'd ever seen, despite not being a FOBBIT. Their VIP, quickly made his way out of one of the Cougars, falling face first into the ground as he did before being helped up by an OS Army Corporal and a local Cop. His name was Johannes Zurlich, an OSCE monitor from Daitschland, known around the FOB for his nerdish pursuits, such as attempting to smuggle in a Japanese anime that was banned under theater rules.

"Lieutenant Reynolds, thank you for getting me here on time." Zurlich said as he wiped the dirt off of his white OSCE jersey that identified him, apparently from the other "combatants" such as the Zolevskoyans and the Americans. Like the ZDRP would care about your jersey Reynolds thought to himself before replying with a prompt "No problem. Just doing our jobs." An Army response in itself. He walked and conversed briefly with the 34 year old bespectacled monitor before walking over to the crime scene and stepping underneath the yellow police tape.

"Captain Woronoff!" Zurlich called out to one of the Zoleskyan troops surrounding the now covered body of a farmer who'd been shot earlier in the day next to a group of Police investigating the scene. Tire tracks were marked along with foot prints and rounds were marked with numbered yellow cards, not unlike a crime scene. One of the Zoleskyans waved back and jogged his way to Zurlich and Reynolds at the edge of the crime scene.

"It is good to see you again, my friend. How may I assist the OSCE and our American friends today?" Woronoff, a Zoleskyan officer who was distantly related to the President of the small Eastern European nation, said with a nod towards Reynolds.

"What happened here? We received word from the State Police of a potential incident out here." Zurlich replied in a questioning tone, prompting Woronoff to quickly explain. It was clear from the testimony gathered from a traumatized housewife that witnessed the killing of her husband that they were none other than LPLA. Her descriptions of their uniforms and weapons seemed to match their equipment and one of the rounds recovered seemed to match the rounds of their manufacture.

The President looked over the photos before tilting her head slightly in a quizzical manner. "Why I am reading a Zoveskoyan Police report from last night?" she asked the crowd of advisors gathered in the office consisting of National Security Advisor Diane Krayler, National Intelligence Agency Director Donovan Adams, Secretary of State Nicholas Harris, Secretary of Defense Mark LeCrelec, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, OS Army General Robert Davis as she took her reading glasses off and set them down on the coffee table in front of her and taking a sip of coffee from the mug in front of her. It had been over 7 hours since the incident in Yamalia.

"Over Seven hours ago, Madam President, soldiers, we believe are from the LPLA launched a border incursion into Zolevskoy and killed that man. There's also significant intelligence stating that the Lossessians also directed the attack on the Legatian base." Adams spoke first, breaking the silence in the room.

"In addition" LeCrelec followed, "DIA's come to the conclusion that Lossessin is ready to take the rest of Yamalia by force. They don't seem to have any intent of disarming the border."

"So, you want to launch a pre-emptive strike?" Krayler asked, shocked that the discussion had taken a turn from the previously decided course of action.

"Mark, do you think that we can go in and defeat the LPLA with the current forces we have in Yamalia?" the President asked.

"On both counts, no. I don't believe a strike could defeat the LPLA with YFOR. However, I do believe that a defensive strategy if adopted could route them if we deploy our assets correctly in the region."

"General, what is your opinion?" the President asked the stunned Davis, caught surprised by her request for his opinion.

"Ma'am, I believe that if we adopt a strategy similar to that of defending the Fulda Gap in Daitschland and Germany, we could potentially force them back in that manner." Roberts said.

"Could you get me a draft by tomorrow?" She asked, though it was more of an order.

"Yes, Ma'am."

"I think it's settled, then."

ZDRP INSURGENT CELL LAUNCHES ATTACK ON LEGATIAN MILITARY INSTALLATION- 3 DEAD, 12 WOUNDED

Image
A Legatian soldier stands on guard near Castrum Firmum in light of the recent attacks.

Earlier today at approximately 11:30 local time, a Legatian military garrison in Zolevskoy came under attack by insurgents under the banner of the Zolevskoyan Democratic Republic Party, a group of far-left wing insurgents, presumably backed by the Democratic Republic of Lossesin, a neighboring communist country now rising into power in the region.

It has been over a year since Lossesian and Legatian forces first engaged in direct combat in the first Zolevskoyan-Lossesian war, which ended in a ceasefire. Legatian forces successfully recaptured Zolevskoyan land back from Lossesin, but did not push further into the nation in a counterattack due to diplomatic reasons.

The attack came following suspected Lossesian incursions into Zolevskoyan territory in the small and heavily contested region of Yamalia, where four factions have been historically struggling for control for years.

"Our main goal is to defend Zolevskoyan assets within the region. That includes putting down rebels that pose a serious threat to it's sovereignty and stability, wherever they may be." Legatus Legionis Flavius Ionius, the commander of Legio IV Augusta Victrix, the legion stationed at Castrum Firmum, said in a statement. "Zolevskoy is one of Legatia's greater allies, and we intend to keep it that way."

New Rome has not made a statement on the issue.

When asked about what he is planning to do next, the Legatus refused to give direct plans under the reasoning of operational security. He did state that the possibility of troop movements is relatively high.

More updates on this story will be released as the situation develops.

Legatian Imperial Armed Forces
Legatian Imperial Air Force, Alae XI "Terra Longe"- flight of 2 F/A-10 Comitatense strike fighters
Over Zolevskoy Democratic Republic Party territory, suspected stronghold
May 3rd, 2015- 11:03 P.M. Local Time

The Comitatense pilots, first and only of their class, soared above the ground in a cloudless sky, lights and fields flickering below them. The brand-new stealth strike fighters were loaded with both guided and unguided munitions, ready to be deployed at a moment's notice.

"So we've got COISRU conf' on this target?" The copilot and weapon's officer of Ferrum 1-2, the second fighter, asked his pilot.

"Yep. We'll be in range in about 3 minutes, so get your targeting online." The copilot nodded, tapping the screen of his weapons guidance, peering at the console. An infared display of bombsights showed up, as well as weaponry database- AGM-014 air-to-ground smart bomb, M212 unguided, and a single M021 cluster bomb.

"I've got visual, Praefect." The lead pilot radioed in. "Going in now."

A pair of dark objects fell from the now opened bay of Ferrum 1-1, that would give away it's stealth at the last moment to a small bit. The unguided bombs fell towards the stronghold, as about a second later, Ferrum 1-2 dropped it's bombs.

The fighters pulled a high-G turn upwards, pulling the plane's nose straight to the air, inverting the plane so it turned backwards and was upside-down, then turned itself over. They went into a dive, dropping the cluster bomb, which fell, split into hundreds of submunitions, and down to the ground. The ground roared as the 500lb pound bombs hit the ground, exploding with a massive boom, sending fragmentation everywhere. Seconds later, the cluster munitions hit, a succession of bangs rocking the ground and the Peregrines alike. The infared camouflage of the Comitatenses was dropped as the fighters engaged their afterburner, pulling up and to the southeast after each other.

"Target destroyed, Praefectus. Weapons effective."

"Solid copy, return to base."

The flaming ruins of what was once a ZDRP base flickered in the backset.

01/05/2015, 1834 local time - Somewhere near the Zolevskoyan/Lossesian controlled territory border

Captain Woronoff, after he finished speaking with the OSCE monitor, went back to his section. Although the state police of Zolevskoy was doing much of the investigating, the RZAF was doing a bit of it too. However the military was mostly providing protection for the police incase the LPLA decided, for whatever foolish reason, to come back. If they did however, this time they'd be greeted with 3 BTR-70 APCs, and many soldiers. While a few soldiers assisted the investigation of the incident, most others were standing on guard in a perimeter that had been set up earlier. Some soldiers quietly made jokes of the monitor, while others smoked a cigarette and merely stood around waiting for something to happen. Most soldiers used their standard issue AK-81 rifle, which is essentially a Zolevskoyan-made AK-74M, while others used weapons such as a PKM or RPK-74. One soldier even used an SVD for the purpose of a designated marksman.

Master corporal Danijel slapped his left cheek. A fly had landed on him, though it was dead now. Wiping his hand on his pant leg he continued standing around with his buddy, Corporal Djuro. Both had an AK-81; though Danijel's had a GP-25 grenade launcher mounted under the handguard. The Zolevskoyans and Americans had been out for only 30 minutes or so, though they were likely to be out for much longer. Some rumors have gone around that a special investigation unit was coming in to the scene of the murder; though it was unlikely as commanders had pretty much pinpointed that it was the LPLA who did this.

"Yo, got a lighter on you?" Djuro asked his peer, stomping on the cigarette he just smoked after throwing it onto the dirt. Afterwards he reached into his left pant pocket, brought out a pack of tobacco cigarettes and brought out a new one.

"Don't call me "yo", it's master corporal." Danijel told the corporal. He quickly got a "sorry" in reply.

"Fucking hell, this is gonna be a long night I suppose..." Djuro said under his breath. Though for some reason, he felt as if somebody - from somewhere - from some distance, was watching him. And that person probably had a rifle of some sort.

May 4, 2015 May the Fourth be With You...
9:06 P.M. Local Time
Parliament Building - President's Office

The capital of Malinous, Waqae, was just winding down from a long day of working, getting ready to start the week off tomorrow. The President was sitting in his office in Parliament Building, watching TV, and drinking some coffee. Papers are everywhere, along with pens. "Mr. President," said a Council Member, standing tall and firm at the entrance. "Yes? Come in, take a seat." replied the President. "Sir, the Council Members of the National Assembly would like a meeting immediately." "Well, can they not wait until tomorrow? What's it about?" "No, sir." replied the Council Member, "it's about Yamalia." The President sighed. "Fine, get them ready."

Minutes later, the President was standing in front of 150 Council Members. "We absolutely need to intervene in this crisis. The fighting has been going on for decades and decades and decades, and we must help someone -- the rightful owners of the land." started off a conservative member of Parliament. "What would we even do?" replied a liberal member, "I mean...there's three damn sides fighting over it. If we put our soldiers there on the ground it'd be pure stupidity!" The room was full of negativity. "Order! Order!" said the President as he stood up to the tall desk. "Here's an idea: we either give humanitarian aide, or help New Austzeland -- it's their rightful land!" "Sounds like a good plan," said another member of the Green Conservative Party. The vote was 125-25...Malinous is helping Zolevskoy.

Almost immediately, the Malinousian Federal Forces, comprising of the Army and Air Force, were notified. 2,500 troops were being sent to the Zolveskoy-Lossessin border, along with tanks and lots of artillery. The expected time until they get there is around 2 to 3 days. They are scheduled to leave tomorrow morning.

Somewhere near the coastline of Yarmala - Yarmalan Coast Guard

As soon as corporal Yanovitch received the message from the deck of the Urranese naval ship, he immediately called for the commander in the large room full of men in military uniforms and many types of communication stations that could send messages to anyone within the Yarmalan government, military, and others who intend on entering the territorial and claimed waters of Yarmala. Many were rejected, but there were also many who were welcomed.

"Sir, we have a message from ships that intend on entering territorial waters. They claim to be from Urran, so they're probably military." Yanovitch told his Officer-in-Command, Captain Lazicu. The commander thought for a moment.

"Ask them what they have with them. We already know their intentions. I just want to be sure that we aren't letting any phonies in like back in June 2014." Lazicu ordered his younger colleague.

"Yes sir."

Yanovitch went back to his station and attempted to contact the Urranese commander.

"Attention anyone in the Urranese fleet approaching Yarmalan waters; this is the Yarmalan Navy coast guard unit. You are to immediately state what your ships are carrying and where you intend to land in. Over."

Dear Sir or Madam,

I, President Nikolic Woronoff, thank you personally for your support in this time of crisis. It is great to know there are more in this world that are opposed to the expansionism of Lossessin and the fascism of Yarmala.

Your forces may be stationed at both the Kolo Military Airbase and the Tozlavne MAB. Our forces stationed there will take care of all accommodations for your forces. I also offer your military contingent assistance in building their own temporary military base near Kolo MAB at no cost. This decision is up to you.

Thank you for taking your time to read this, and may Yamalia once again be united under the rule of Zolevskoy with the guidance of God.

Faithfully yours,

The helicopter decks of the assault vessels now sported small utility helicopters preparing to begin landing supplies. The admiral picked up his phone to answer the hail.

"This is Admiral Fujioka, our vessels have troops and equipment for the humanitarian mission to be based in Yuglav. Be advised, C17's are also on their way yo Yuglav with more support. Do you copy, over?"

The Urranese vessels began to enter Yamalian waters at a very slow speed until they got permission to go further.

(nothing else I can add at this point)

LEGATIA DEPLOYS 3 COHORTS TO YAMALIA, COMBAT OPERATIONS AGAINST ZDRP BEGIN

Image
The results of an Imperial Air Force directed airstrike against a Zolevskoyan
Democratic Republic Party stronghold, as taken by an Air Force combat
controller.

In the midst of a large-scale attack of the terrorist extremist cell, the Zolevskoyan Democratic Repbulic Party, against the Imperial Provinces' largest base in Zolevskoy last Sunday, the Imperator has responded in full force.

A large campaign of airstrikes against key locations in Yamalia held by the ZDRP has commenced, and has already proven fruitful, as reports of the strikes killing leaders of the party have been released.

In a further move, last night the Imperator issued an order for Legio IV Augusta Victrix, the legion stationed in Zolevskoy, to deploy 3 cohorts of men to Yamalia for combat operations and peacekeeping on the Zolevskoyan held areas of the boiling region. Cohorts have been stationed on the north and western borders. Cohort I, the prime cohort of the Legio, has been designated for combat operations in the small pockets of ZDRP on the Zolevskoyan side.

"Expect it to be over quickly." A Legatian soldier from Cohort XVIII, deployed to the western border, stated. "We're just here to stabilize it. We'll be out before Pater Imperis day."

Citizens back home are hopeful that this doesn't boil over into a full-scale conflict, and hope the justice dealt to the left-wing radicals is deft and right. The 3 men killed in the attack on Castrum Firmum have received the Purple Shield, due to their loss of life, and have been transported back to Legatia for burial with full military honors.

Updates on this developing situation will be released as they become available.

Yamalia, Zolevskoyan controlled territory

In response to the Legatian military beginning combat operations, Zolevskoy Democratic Republic Party militants and cells have been ordered to conduct more, and even deadlier attacks on Zolevskoyan, Legatian, and other Zolevskoy-aligned military forces and other important pieces of infrastructure. As per doctrine, guerrilla warfare would be used to attack the enemy at unexpected times and places. Militants would operate in semi-independent units with decentralized command. The only orders they received from the highest levels of command was what to do, but now how and where to do it. The commanders of each unit has immense autonomy and were fully capable of conducting operations on their own accord. Militants would hide inside the forests, among civilian populations, without any identification marks when they were not in combat. Many hit-and-run ambushes would be used against military convoys, and many places would be bombed in order to cause fear among the enemy military and civilian population.

A Ural 4320 truck, with a blue body and tan cover for the rear bed, drove along a dirt road that was about 40 meters parallel to a paved road. The two roads went along a large field with a few trees and lots of grassland. To the left of the truck was a barbed wire fence which marked the boundaries of a ranch of some sort. Though the truck may have seemed innocent, it's cargo was entirely different. In the rear bed there were 12 ZDRP militants with weapons ranging from AKMs to PKMs, with one soldier carrying an RPG-26 on his back. It was probably stolen from the Zolevskoyan military. It's intent was to ambush a Legatian military convoy that was carrying both troops and supplies. It's destination was unknown, but the ZDRP's intent was clear. Even though the driver wore the attire of an average farmer, the militants behind him wore camouflaged clothes and other equipment used for storing their ammunition and personal gear.

"The convoy is only 200 meters away from us. Looks like they have about 3 utility trucks and 2 armed vehicles for protection, both behind and in front of the utility trucks. Get ready to disembark and engage." The driver told the soldiers in the rear. Soon after, they all began loading and readying their weapons for the ambush. The soldier with the RPG-26 would first engage the vehicle that was protecting the convoy in front, and the soldier with an RPG-7 would move to engage the one behind the convoy.

As soon as the Legatians were only about 100 meters away, the vehicle stopped. Militants began jumping out one by one and formed a line along the dirt road which had a ditch beside it. Once the enemy was close enough, the Ural would move and the ambush would begin.

Once the first vehicle was only 40 meters away, the truck finally moved. Anatoli fired his RPG-26 at the first vehicle of the convoy, followed by Saltykov firing his RPG-7 at the rear vehicle. At the same time small arms fire began erupting; the militants engaging every enemy vehicle. If the ZDRP one this ambush, it would be a great victory; so much so that the propaganda abilities would be great.

Legatian Imperial Armed Forces
Legio IV Augusta Victrix, Cohort VIII
Supply Convoy to Castra Aetum, Zolevskoyan-held Yamalia
May 10th, 2015- 1:10 P.M. Local Time

The convoy, delivering food, weaponry, men and ammunition to a base in western Zolevskoyan Yamalia, was caught entirely off guard. The armored vehicle guarding the rear took a direct hit, flipping upside down and igniting. The lead vehicle managed to skid hard, barely avoiding the RPG-26 fired at it. The convoy grinded to a halt, soldiers piling out of the covered transport trucks.

"We're taking hits!" A legionnaire yelled as the .50 caliber machine gun on the lead vehicle, which had maneuvered around the convoy, opened up with a hail of fire. Rifle fire rang up as the vehicles of the convoy called for support.

"This is C-414, impens, impens, request immediate support! We've been ambushed at these coordinates!" A driver rattled off a set of coordinates, bullets pinging against the bullet-shielded cabin of the truck. "I say again! Immediate support requested!"

Due to the open nature of the battlefield, many soldiers took a hit. Hiding behind whatever cover was available, trees, rocks, the drainage ditch, Legatian soldiers engaged the ZDRP insurgents.

"C-414, we're dispatching a helicopter to you now, it should be there in five minutes." A calmer voice came through the radio, as the thump of an M080 under-barrel grenade launcher came from just outside their door, followed by a BANG as it detonated. The pings of PIL-Vs were all too common.

"We're gonna be dead in five minutes! Get them the hell off our ass!" The driver yelled, a Legatian soldier falling as a bullet struck him in the knee, crying in pain. Another two rushed up to him, one firing over the other's shoulder as he was dragged into the bed of the vehicles.

"Pull back, pull back!" A man ordered as smokescreens were deployed to cover the retreat. As soon as it was thick enough, soldiers began dragging the wounded into the backs of trucks, followed by the dying and finally the dead.

If they didn't get support soon or had another force ambush them.. they were finished.

10/01/2015, 1310 local time - Zolevskoyan controlled territory, Yamalia - 15 Celsius, Light Showers

The woodlands camouflage painted Zolevskoyan Mi-24V Hind attack gunship moved swiftly above the grasslands of Kozelsk in search of a Legatian convoy that had just been ambushed by ZDRP militants. The helicopter was ordered to rescue the Legatians that were just caught in a deadly ambush. If the Zolevskoyans didn't arrive in time, their allies would surely be eliminated within a matter of minutes.

"Approaching target, 4 clicks away. Prepare to engage." The pilot of the helicopter, Sergeant Dosteovsky, ordered his gunner, Corporal Polonsky. Right after, the gunner prepared to engage by preparing the 12.7mm nose cannon. First the pilot would engage with a burst of S-8 rocket pod missiles, and that would be followed by a burst from the 12.7mm cannon.

"Two clicks away from target. Gonna inform the Legatians that we're here." Dostoevsky informed Polonsky. The gunner replied with an "affirmative".

"Sergeant Dostoevsky of Zolevskoy Ground Forces Air Corps to C-414, we're here to assist. Disengage and take cover while we deal with these Bolsheviks, over." Soon after, as the helicopter was 700 meters away, the pilot began engaging with a burst from the S-8 rocket pods mounted under the two wings of his helicopter, both of which loaded with HE-I rockets. Polonsky mopped up the mess with his Yak-B nose cannon; spent shell casing dropping below the helicopter and onto the Legatians below. The helicopter was only about 30 feet above the friendly convoy.

"Dostoevsky to C-414, all hostiles eliminated. We're willing to request for more assistance if you need it, how copy?" The pilot spoke over his communications. Polonsky saw a blue Ural truck driving down the dirt road it was on as quickly as it possibly could, probably escaping the scene.

The roar of the Hind brought cheers to the Legatian troops on the ground, battered and beat. Almost immediately after the ZDRP were dealt with by the Zolevskoyan Hind, a Legatia Pierce roared onto the scene, and, after a second, lit up the escaping Ural.

"You're fucking late again!" The men yelled at the Hast, while simultaneously cheering again for the Zolevskoyan saviors of theirs.

"This is C-414, thank the Gods you're here!" The Legatians radioed Dostoevsky. "Fucking reds got the best of us, we've got a few dead, a lot more wounded." The ring of a pistol went off as a Legatian soldier executed a dying ZDRP militant.

"Aetum is a bit from here, and with our other vehicle destroyed, we'll be needing escort. Care to join us?" The convoy's commander, still alive and driving, requested. "We've got the Pierce, but with how bad we just got fucked up, I'm not too confident. We'll need to get our wounded back to Firmum as soon as possible."

Chinook Aquas-1
May 10th, 2015- 10:24 P.M

Captain Johnson stood up from his seat and stood by the door of the Chinook, "Okay, First Section, STAND UP!" He raised his voice as the door clanked open... "HOOK UP!" The soldiers hooked to the rail on the Chinook's Roof, "CHECK SIDEARM!" They put their hands to their sides to check that they had their Walther PPKs. The Red Light flickered green, "GO, GO, GO!" He ushered every man out of the back as they zip lined down to the earth for awhile before deploying their parachutes.

Finally Captain Johnson himself grabbed onto the zipline and prepared his parachute cord, it didn't open... He grabbed for his reserve and it deployed just in time to get him snatched and left hanging from a tree, the speed of the freefall and them the sudden stop breaking a rib and fracturing his elbow, he hung limply as he drifted into unconsciousness...

"C-414, we'll see. Give us a second while we ask our command, over." Dostoevsky replied to the Legatian. Right after he changed the station on his communications so that he could speak directly to his commanders back at Tozlavne airbase.

"Sergeant Dostoevsky to Tozlavne Airbase, message, over."

"Tozlavne AB to Sergeant Dostoevsky, send, over."

"All hostile targets at the ambush site eliminated. Legatians got fucked up though, lots are dead and even more are wounded. They have requested for escort back to Aetum. Requesting further orders, how copy?" Dostoevsky asked the commander on the other end, Lieutenant Pavlov. After a few seconds of silence he finally replied.

"Affirmative Dostoevsky, but as soon as they get to Aetum return to base ASAP. ZDRP probably have a few anti-air kill teams getting ready in the area after what just happened. Out." Once their orders were received the pilot radioed the Legatians again.

"C-414, we'll escort you to Aetum however once that's done we need to get back to our base quickly. There will probably be anti-air teams getting ready to try and kill us, and we're halfway to bingo fuel. Out." The Zolevskoyan helicopter began following the Legatian vehicles back to their respective base, where they would break off and return to base once their ally is about a kilometer away.

With clearance now granted, the Urranese vessels steamed at cruising speed for the coast. Helicopters began to lift off of one of the Amphibious assault ships, while both vessels prepared their massive cargos to be unloaded once they reached port. Battlefield ambulances, IFV's, APC's, combat engineering, and utility vehicles were all checked, as were all of the supplies. In a few minutes, they would be in sight of land and the mission would officially begin.

However, the urranese C-17's had already begun their mission, coming in at the average altitude for an airliner making initial approach, they radioed down and asked for permission to land.

The convoy officer nodded, and, after loading the last of the wounded and dead, started along the road, the gunners sweeping for any additional targets, though a man would be stupid to attack a convoy attacked by an attack helicopter and a gunship.

The convoy about 20 minutes later pulled into Aetum, soldiers immediately swarming the convoy, offloading the wounded, the dying, and the dead. A single HA-6T Carparth attack helicopter took off, as a Challus transport landed, it's rear bay already opened, bearing the red cross. Men rushed out of it, taking the seriously wounded, among them a man barely clinging onto his hand, a man who had been struck in the head, and a severe burn victim who had the entire left side of his body burned and torn. As soon as all the criticals were loaded, they were ferried back to Castrum Firmum a few hundred miles away.

Local capsuariats and medicii took care of the less critical, stabilizing the ones who would also need airlift, as a Caestus helicopter landed soon after, airlifting those who needed it.

"Thank you for your help, Dosteovsky." The convoy leader radioed back. "We'll make sure this sees high command. Valete, amicii." The man gave a wave as the helicopter would depart.

Birtonian Ground Defense Force
1st Battalion, 184th Infantry
1330 Hours, Operation Day One
Goleyaz, Yamalia

Disrupting the peaceful quiet of a small village located next to a major road roared a massive convoy of military vehicles. This was an entire infantry battalion of the BGDF being sent to relieve, train, and support ZDPR forces in the area to assist their next major offensive. Hundreds of black vehicles passed small children as they watched on in awe, the only markings were in a lighter shade of gray saying "BGDF" and the bumber numbers of individual vehicles.

Most of the trucks were transportation, bringing either the men's equipment, food, or ammunition. With several Fuchs scout vehicles here and there carrying heavier weapons. Every third vehicle was a Schroder gun truck, towing a TH-6 howitzer and transporting the men who were attached to the infantry. They belonged to the 72nd Field Artillery Battery, but were detached to the 184 for this mission.

The convoy was to move through Goleyaz down south along MSR (Main Supply Route) Tampa and move towards the middle of the region where a ZDPR liason would meet them.

Knight-Colonel Isaac Hidalgo drove in the commanders seat of a Fuchs vehicle reviewing his reports on the GFT (Green Force Tracker). He was a man of many engagement's just being promoted from a Knight-Commander for serving honorably in his last tour down in the Svennish Isle Chain against insurgents. Extremely ironic that he was just exterminating pirates and now he is essentially an insurgent against a foreign country. He shook these thoughts from his mind as he switched the radio frequency from battalion to the on the ZDRP had given him before.

"Any calling station on this net, this is Castle Actual, Commanding officer of the BGDF forces on ground. How copy over?" he said in his deeply calm command voice to whomever was waiting for him on the other side.

[But I've traveled a long way away and my feet hurt!]" The old woman, pulling a black scarf over her head, cried in desparation as the Ontorisan turned to Provkin, who stood there in his gear, MX rifle handing from his body as he surveyed the crowd.

"Any idea on what that woman just fucking said?" The soldier asked Provkin in Estonian as Provkin looked over and began slowly translating the limited amount of Bosnian he knew in his head.

"Something about a long way and her feet hurting." Provkin replied to the soldier, his teammate, Private Isajz Thrisamis, who looked at Provkin.

"You're telling her she has to clear security." Thrisamis murmured to Provkin as he moved towards the woman as Provkin sighed and began to move forward behind him.

"Gospođo, morate očistiti sigurnost prije nego što možete nastaviti! [Ma'am, you have to clear security before you can proceed!]" Provkin shouted to the woman as he tugged on Thrisamis' backpack, the signal for him to keep some distance. "Standard mjere opreza! Izvinjavam se! [Standard precautions! My apologies!]"

The woman nodded and sat down as Provkin turned to see multiple Ontorisan soldiers struggling to hold back the influx of multiple refugees from the northern border where skirmishes had probably affected small villages and townships. The elements of the 90th had not been prepared for so many people to be arriving so quickly. Already, Provkin could tell there was going to be trouble. With the 90th constantly patrolling the surrounding area out of anticipation of any ZDRP hit and run attacks on AFB "Crusader", due to its prime location of being a possible service point for ZDRP forces.

The Ontorisans had their orders: keep the locals at bay, report any suspicious activity and finally, the civilian's life over the soldier's if a fight were to break out.

Northern ZDRP controlled territory - 1330 local time

ZDRP militants sat around a circle in a small meadow, within a large forest. There were only 3 militants around the fire but there were 5 others standing around guarding a once abandoned underground bunker that was found damaged, rotting, rusting, and old. Thankfully, with the help of several "collaborators", who were really just men who were taken from their homes forcefully and ordered to work. Even though the Zolevskoyan government and military has been cracking down harshly on this practice in recent times, the ZDRP still maintained a robust human trafficking network.

A man in black combat boots, urban TTsKO trousers, a beige undershirt complete with a black leather jacket, and a black beret walked through the forests; 3 men with Kalashnikovs guarding him. It was Kiril Antonov, self proclaimed supreme premier of the ZDRP. He ruled his self-proclaimed "Democratic Republic of Zolevskoy" which was really only small chunks of territory both in Yamalia and Zolevskoy proper. There were more ranches and villages than actual cities in his territory as Kiril believed in an Agrarian society, with minimal cities. The only cities within his territory were in the Red Strip; a somewhat mid-sized chunk of territory that he captured during the war in 1987-1992 which resulted in a ZDRP strategic victory. Even though he only managed to gain about 150 square kilometers of territory, it was a major victory for the Premier and his "military".

But times have changed vastly. The Zolevskoyan military has gotten much better armed and trained; and were fully capable of defeating the Zolevskoy Democratic Republic if they once again waged a war. Kiril knew this, and for that he also adapted to his adversary's military. He knew he couldn't attack Zolevskoy and win, but he knew that the Zolevskoyans knew that they could not invade and take over the entire Red Strip quickly and easily.

The eight militants guarding the cave noticed the group that was walking towards their position. Even though they instantly recognized him, they had to be sure.

"Password!" One of the most senior men shouted to the group.

"Remember the day of October." Antonov replied, referencing the deadliest attack conducted by the ZDRP back in October 2006, which killed 16 Zolevskoyan soldiers killed and many more wounded; and 3 of them taken as POW.

"My Premier." the most senior militant, Pavel Ilyushin began speaking to his leader.

"There is a message waiting for you from the Birtonians. They've arrived. Someone called Knight-Colonel Hidalgo wants to speak to someone." He informed Kiril.

"Hand the radio to me." He ordered. Pavel reached for a pouch on his webbing which carried a large black walkie talkie and handed it to Kiril.

"Castle Actual, call me "Ryba" for now. I hear you loud and clear. I believe you are the Birtonians that have come to support us? If so, I want one of you to come to the town of Yakov. I will be there within two hours."

Handing back the radio to Pavel, he made a motion with his left hand for his guards to follow him back to the UAZ-469 that was driven to the Jugan Forest. Now he had to go to another town to meet with a new friend.
