Knowing that the government forces were getting dangerously close to the city, the ONLF became more and more concerned, feeling that at any time, the Creperian Military may launch a massive ground and aerial assault at them, which they would later have a lot of problems of holding up against., thus prompting the rebels to think of urgent counter action. Although it reminded of a flawed strategy and seemed like it would only make the opposition more visible for the government forces, the ONLF decided to station as much of their units in and around the city of Paritera as possible, in order to build up strong defenses. Although it was highly likely that a lot of those units would get taken out over the early course of the battle, the ONLF was hoping that it would at least buy them time to develop an effective strategy, while the government forces remain busy fighting these rebel units.

Battle of Caleos

Meanwhile, in southern Ocidenia, the OPLF had surprisingly made a lot of progress in their fight against the government forces. Originally believing that the most progress they could achieve would only be in somehow repelling the Ocidenian Military’s incursion into the opposition-held south, the rebels themselves were highly surprised by how much success they had managed to achieve, once they were able to reverse the process. Not only had the opposition forces managed to successfully resume withholding the government assault, but the OPLF has also managed to fight their way through a single front and actually infiltrate the government-held center of the country. Once the rebels had gained access, they immediately began making their move towards the closest government-held city – Caleos. Knowing that the Ocidenian Military was holding a tough grip on it, the opposition forces were already in battle positions, before even getting close to the city.

Once the rebels were spotted heading for the city of Caleos, the units of the Ocidenian Military stationed there and the regions around the city, immediately began forming an appropriate response. Naturally, the regular army pursued to take out the advancing rebel forces before they could come even close to Caleos and therefore, the Ocidenian Air Force was ordered to begin launching air strikes and carry out bombings of the OPLF positions, especially targeting those that had already made the most progress. Meanwhile, as the bombings and missile showers were hitting the ground, the land forces were already advancing towards the insurgent positions, with colons of tanks and battalions of soldiers in other land vehicles, heading towards OPLF for a ground assault.

Upon seeing that missiles and bombs were coming right towards them, the rebels immediately scattered around the field, hiding at whatever spot they could find. Meanwhile, seeing that the government tanks were already close to them and even started firing shells, the OPLF opened fire from whatever weapons they had in their hands. At first, the insurgents were firing from assault rifles and machine guns, despite knowing perfectly that all bullets would bounce off the armor of the vehicles. This form of assault was taking place only as part of a distraction strategy. Eventually, once the enemy ground forces came closer, the OPLF forces whipped out more powerful weaponry.

As the tank colons were moving closer, the rebels opened fire from grenade launchers. Since the majority of the present rebel forces had grenade launchers with them, the quantity and force of the fire opened was enormous and powerful. A hurricane of grenades was coming towards the Ocidenian tanks, plunging the machines into fire, while leaving them only to desperately try to fire back. Seeing that their assault was working, the rebels attempted to keep it up, while reinforcements were bringing in and setting up mortars. Once lines of mortars were set up and aimed at the advancing enemy forces, the specially assembled mortar crews started launching shells at and reinforcing assault on the Ocidenian Military.

Finally, more rebel reinforcements came in, this time transporting anti-aircraft guns and launching them at the Ocidenian fighter and bomber jets circling the skies above. In addition, some insurgents were firing rocket launchers to reinforce assault on the government aircraft.

After seeing a wave of fire coming their way consisting of bullets, shells, grenades, rockets, etc, the Ocidenian Military no longer felt so confident in the current fight. The troops immediately jumped to battle positions and launched a counter-offensive in both self-defense and in the defense of the tanks. While taking cover from the rebel fire, the soldiers used all possible openings to launch assault rifle and machine gun fire at the insurgents. The goal was to push the insurgents back a little, so that tanks and other armored vehicles would have an opening to resume their own shelling of the OPLF positions.

As the government troops intensified their assault, the OPLF forces started to slightly feel overwhelmed. The rebels tried not to show their discomfort however, and sought to resume intense resistance in order to show the enemy that the insurgents are not giving up. In addition, seeing that their numbers were still high enough and the weapons that they were using were still powerful enough not just to withhold the attack, but launch a powerful counter-offensive, the OPLF forces believed that they could definitely take the upper hand in the current fight if they put in more effort. The insurgents resumed attacking in the same spirit, with some fighters even attempting to advance closer towards the frontline to get a better shot towards the government positions. Shells, rockets, grenades, bullets and even missiles resumed coming towards the Ocidenian positions in the same fashion, but this time with the rebels wanting to move their positions closer to the enemy.

Seeing that the insurgents were still not standing down, the Ocidenian land forces requested that the fighter and bomber jets intensify their aerial assault onto the OPLF forces on the ground. Naturally, this request would not be very easy to fulfil, as the Ocidenian Air Force was already struggling with withstanding attacks from the rebel anti-aircraft guns, rocket launchers and shoulder missiles, however, the available jets that were not being attacked as intensely, tried devoting attention to fulfilling the army’s request. Missiles, bombs and even napalm soon started coming the insurgent way.

Unexpectedly, the insurgent positions soon found themselves being intensely bombarded and having missiles and napalm coming their way. Although the OPLF at first felt as if they were effectively holding up against the Ocidenian Air Force as they were endlessly firing at the government jets and helicopters, the government aircraft still did not feel intimidated and on the contrary were keeping up an even more powerful and destructive assault.

Although the opposition was not really succeeding in actually shooting down the enemy aircraft, the OPLF forces still felt confident that they were giving a hard time to the Ocidenian Air Force as they were keeping up an active wave of fire that the government aircraft was forced to hold up against and thus did not have time to launch counter-attacks. However, their expectations were not fulfilled and thus the OPLF soon became disappointed with their lack of progress.

The local rebel commanders called in for more reinforcements to arrive with anti-aircraft guns and other weaponry, while the units directly engaging the government land forces in battle were told to keep up an active fight.

Upon seeing the opportunity, the government forces soon intensified the advance to cease every opportunity to overwhelm the enemy. While the Ocidenian Air Force resumed the bombing and missile showers, the tanks colons, soldiers in other armored vehicles and foot soldiers marched forward, opening fire all at once. The soldiers on foot were frequently firing all weapons in their possession, with some staying behind to fire machine guns from their spots, while also providing cover fire for those that kept advancing forward. Other troops kept bravely moving forward and shooting at the rebels endlessly, emptying magazine after magazine.

The OPLF forces saw that they were facing a real threat as it seemed like they were losing the fight. The Ocidenian Military was intensely attacking them from both ground and air, while moving forward, leaving the insurgents nothing to do, but pull back and take cover as any further presence on the spot would only lead to them to perishing under the destructive threat of government force. Nevertheless, the OPLF was not willing to pull back completely and only took several steps back, while reloading weapons and repositioning forces. The mortar crews kept launching shells at the Ocidenian ground forces in order to slow down the regular army’s advance, before a rebel counter-offensive could be prepared and launched.

As the shells continued coming towards the regular army’s positions, the mortar crews resumed their intense assault, while the fighters were reloading their weapons. Once some insurgents had their arsenal ready, a wave of assault rifle fire started coming towards the government forces, followed by grenade launchers, rocket launchers and shoulder missiles being launched at tanks. Mortar crews kept up the shelling.

Although the Ocidenian Air Force did not require cover as it seemingly was holding up against the opposition forces and actively resuming the assault on them, the units stationed further back, behind the forces that were doing the basic fighting, provided cover from the ground by attacking the rebel anti-aircraft wielders from different angles, during the moments when the enemy was least expecting.

Opposition reinforcements soon arrived carrying anti-aircraft weaponry. The rebels began setting up guns in lines and piles and immediately firing them at the enemy fighters and bombers. Although the actual destruction of targets was still far from reality, the opposition forces mostly cared about keeping the Ocidenian Air Force pressured, while the rest of the units could resume the ground assault.

Although the Ocidenian Air Force was once again facing trouble, the government aircraft was not yet facing casualties on its behalf and was decently holding up. The support from the ground was especially helpful and assisted the jets and helicopters in resuming their mission even more successfully. On land, the government forces were not facing any trouble at all and successfully kept up the fight.

Seeing that they were facing a bit of a hit, the insurgents were no longer in a position, where they were feeling highly confident and were forced to pull away from the frontline a bit more, but not to a level, where the Ocidenian Military could assume that the rebels were giving up. The insurgents kept trying to reposition forces in a way, where they could still keep up attack and defense functions.

Despite the ongoing growing and powerful assault, the opposition forces were still not backing down. The Ocidenian Military knew that a better strategy was required to push the enemy back completely, thus the forces on the frontline resumed the active fight, while the commanders could come up with a better next move for the regular army – something that would help the forces eliminate the enemy for good.

Battle of Amicita

Meanwhile, in the northern part of the country, the northern opposition faction – the ONLF has managed to achieve the same type of progress as their southern counterparts. After much effort and energy, the northern rebels were finally able to take their first step into the government-held center of the country and fight their way towards one of the government-held cities – Amicita. Naturally, as they were now on the enemy grounds and advancing forward deeper into hostile territory, the ONLF forces were constantly getting attacked by the government positions. The Ocidenian Military had a goal to terminate the rebels before they could reach Amicita. Another battle was arising.

Like in the southern fronts, the government forces began their attack on the rebel positions with an aerial assault. The Ocidenian Air Force tracked the ONLF forces advancing from the north and began launching their attacks with missiles, bombs and napalm. Once the aerial attack began and seemed like it was going well, the pilots contacted the land forces stationed near Amicita and informed them that now was the best time to launch a ground assault onto the rebels, while the fighters and bombers were suppressing their advance.

Once the aerial attacks started coming their way, the ONLF rebels took cover and began launching a defensive counter-attack with rocket launchers and missiles hoping to shoot the government jets and helicopters out of the sky. Other weapons such as rocket launchers and shoulder missiles would be useless against the combat aircraft and therefore the rebels kept the ammunition of assault rifles and machine guns for when the government land forces arrive. Meanwhile, the insurgents with rocket launchers and shoulder missiles just kept up the attack.

As soon as the rebel counter-attack came from the ground, the Ocidenian Air Force immediately began maneuvering. Some jets were avoiding getting hit by missiles coming from the ground and kept circling the skies, sometimes even flying in large portions, but in different spots, so that the insurgents get distracted and feel like they are being threatened from different sides. This was an especially helpful maneuver for the Ocidenian Air Force and created an ambiguous atmosphere for the rebels. Although a lot of jets were spinning around the insurgents, not all of them were meant to fire, as some were there only for a distraction. However, which were which was something that was impossible to determine, thus leaving the rebels confused and forcibly be on the outlook for all of the jets, as anyone could be attacker.

Seeing the strategy that the Ocidenian Air Force was using, the insurgents attempted to split up into groups as well and having different groups devote attention to different flocks of Ocidenian jets. Overall, without being able to exactly determine which jets were for attack and which were for distraction, the insurgent forces sought to destroy all of them to ensure security for themselves. However, despite having enough number of fighters to devote attention to all aircraft, the opposition forces were rarely able to effectively hold up against the enemy, as the Ocidenian fighters, bombers and attack helicopters were launching attacks endlessly and from all sides.

Seeing that they were failing in their counter-offensive against the Ocidenian Air Force, the rebels understood that their success was dependent not just on the number of soldiers they had and on the strategy that they were using. The insurgents understood that what they needed for actual success were better weapons specially designed for such battles. Therefore, the local commanders contacted reinforcements and requested that anti-aircraft weapons be sent to the battle zone to help out in a fight against the Ocidenian Air Force.

Finally, the government land forces were close and had the opposition units targeted. It was difficult to see them from the distance, as the ONLF were constantly being made visible by the amount of explosions that were surrounding them all the time and by the glares from the fires that they were launching back the Ocidenian Air Force. The land forces did not wait to get close in order to begin firing and once they felt like they were close enough for a good shot, the tank colons advancing in the front began shelling the ONLF forces, while other armored vehicles following them were launching cover fire. Finally, soldiers hopped out of the vehicles, took positions on the battlefield and began a firefight with the insurgent militants.

As the government forces began their ground assault, the rebels were now required to take cover even more and watch their own backs on all fronts. The insurgents began setting up machine guns in multiple spots of the frontline and after placing them on tripods, the rebels opened fire at all visible government troops. Meanwhile, other insurgents were keeping up simple assault rifle fire, as well as launching occasional shots from rocket launchers, bazookas and grenade launchers, upon comfortable opportunities. The heavy weapons were expected to take out tanks and other armored vehicles.

Upon seeing that the insurgents were trying to take out tanks, the war machines kept up their shelling, while lighter armored vehicles, which could move quicker and more rapidly, headed very close to the rebel positions, opening fire at them all at once. Despite being lighter vehicles, these machines had powerful weaponry mounted to them, something that was no less powerful than tank shells. These vehicles were firing endlessly, trying not to let the rebels fire a single bullet.
