Tension Report Application

Submitting Party: Neornith

Nation Name of Submitting Party: Interstellar Consortium of Avlana

Affected Quadrant(s): Gamma

Precise Locations (If Applicable): Swift Winds Trade Route

Nation(s) Involved: Gamma Quadrant Refugees, Avlana

Description: With the current refugee crisis in Gamma causing a great strain on the Swift Winds Trade Route of the Consortium, the Merchant Houses have deployed several Q-ships along the route in secret. The Merchant Houses have decided to begin secretly culling human refugees from non-human refugees in an effort to stem the money loss caused by the large amount of human refugees using up the resources of the Swift Winds Trade Route waystations. Any armed refugees will be exterminated and unarmed human refugees will be sent to an as of yet unknown location (EDIT: Do to the confusion from other players, I would like to clarify the Merchant Houses actions are SIC even from the majority of the other Houses within the Consortium, there will however be reports of mysterious merchant vessels suddenly attacking human refugee ships, as of this time however it is unknown the Merchant Houses of Avlana are involved, apologies for any confusion I have caused)

Potential Greater Impact(s):
If it is discovered that the Merchant Houses have several large warships as well as conducting armed actions against unarmed civilians it will cause several conflicts with the Warrior Houses of Avlana as well. However the armed actions against pirate groups operating near the trade route should bring a little more stability to the small sliver of area the trade route occupies running through Gamma.

Submitting Party: The Gata'ja
Nation Name of Submitting Party: The Gata'ja Ammudzi

Thread Link(s): viewtopic.php?f=5&t=367698&p=27593386#p27593386
Affected Quadrant(s): Beta, Gamma, and Delta.
Precise Locations (If Applicable): To be determined.
Nation(s) Involved: Also to be determined

Description: The Gata'ja are continuing their bloody expansion and have now returned to old mainstay of theirs to maintain their growing empire and ambition: Raiding. As large fleet of Gata'ja raiders are going to be spreading out to ravage all over the galaxy, focusing on Gamma, but with attacks going into Beta and Delta now, to test defenses, gain food and resources, as well as test tactics and their Vipran-trained forces with actual combat. Refugee fleets, star states, merchant outposts, there is nothing that will not be targeted in this outburst of violence and hunger.

Potential Greater Impact(s):The Gata'ja are attacking again, hitting random targets, some intentional, some actually random for the reasons stated above, which can only feed the flames of the Great Displacement, and while drawing ire from many nations, will provide them to resources and knowledge to continue on their path of ambition and set the basis for an actual threat as well as making the galactic situation explosive.

Thread Link(s): viewtopic.php?f=5&t=365548
Affected Quadrant(s): Beta
Precise Locations (If Applicable): Gelidian System
Nation(s) Involved: The United Star Commonwealth

Description: A refugee colony established by the United Star Commonwealth has been put under extremely strict quarantine measures after an outbreak of an as of yet unidentified disease. Symptoms range from sneezes, sore throat and sensitivity to bright light, through severe muscle pain to mass internal and external haemorrhaging. Deceased bodies are reported to have hardened into a marble like material that reflects little to no light. Vomiting, auto- and regular cannibalism, and hallucinations are also rumoured to be possible symptoms. Although the original patient has been identified, the actual source of the disease is yet to be discovered as none of the refugees in the colony recognise the symptoms.

Potential Greater Impact(s): Although the disease is currently isolated in one colony, the potential for other groups of refugees to be carrying the same disease (or ones equally dangerous and difficult to treat) may result in severe backlash against refugee populations, as well as governments protecting and housing them. At the very least, governments will want to take extra care with regards to who they interact with.

Tension Report Application

Submitting Party: Vixia Prime
Nation Name of Submitting Party: The Kingdom of Vixia Prime

Affected Quadrant(s): Beta Quadrant
Precise Locations (If Applicable): Systems colonized by the Vixians. Check factbooks.
Nation(s) Involved: Vixia Prime

Description: There has been resent tensions between the PSA (Planetary Systems Alliance) and the Vixian star-state. The Vixians are currently involved in the War On Meridia, fighting the PSA on the side of Ponyi Meridia. There has been tensions before too, when the PSA hunted and killed Vixian civilians. The tensions has once again raised to a higher level.
Potential Greater Impact(s): With the rise in hostilities between the two polities the war has the potential to increase the number of refugees trying to flee the war in the Beta Quadrant. Also the destabilization of the two governments may cause an increase in pirate activity in those sectors in the Beta Quadrant.

Tension Report Application

Submitting Party: Varagoth
Nation Name of Submitting Party: The Holy Star Empire of Varagoth

Affected Quadrant(s): Gamma, Delta
Precise Locations (If Applicable): Jericho System, Triumvirate Trade Corridor
Nation(s) Involved: HSEV, Amestrisan Trade Coalition, Triumvirate member states.

Description: In recent events the planet of Jericho which dominated the Jericho System for the Triumvirate had fallen to HSE forces and a similar cleansing to those systems that were conquered before now takes effect on the newly occupied planet. Although the HSE war fleets have kept themselves within Jericho's high orbit and have not continued on their religious xenophobic fueled crusade as the initial crusade that had brought the entirety of the Vespae Expanse and now the Jericho System has come to an end.
Potential Greater Impact(s): Their will probably be a decrease in hostilities for the short term in the area, although the TTC(Triumvirate Trade Corridor) which feeds trade from Gamma into Delta has been closed off for the foreseeable future. Neighboring star states/entities may see a lack in trade because of the events that have occurred recently, it will also allow for a stream of refugees to make their way into the Delta Quadrant though their numbers are not as many as other more larger refugee groups.

Tension Report Application

Submitting Party: Viatra
Nation Name of Submitting Party: The Kingdom of Viatra

Affected Quadrant(s): Beta
Precise Locations (If Applicable): The Fornacis System, surrounding star systems in the core of Beta Quadrant
Nation(s) Involved: Viatra

Description: The star system of Fornacis, the location for the homeworld of the Viatran Kingdom and its quickly growing spacefaring empire suffered a humiliating setback when one of its fleets had deserted after its admiral Horatius Kal Senarus had been discovered to be selling weapons and munitions to the black market. The sale of Viatran military property is unlawful and along with allegations of embezzlement, conducting piracy on merchant vessels, and a general lack of discipline reported among his subordinates. The desertion was embarrassing for the Viatran Star Fleet which had only recently resolved inter-tribal disputes among its leaders in the past year.
Potential Greater Impact(s): The defection highlights the vulnerabilities of the high command of the Viatran military and the weaknesses that the tribal loyalties can place on its capacity to function as a modern, efficient military when family ties and aristocratic elements cause corruption and intension among the factions within Viatra. Admiral Horatius Kal Senarus had reportedly conducted punitive raids against independent worlds and merchant vessels across beta Quadrant, leaving a formidable and dangerous threat that could ravage several systems if left unchecked. The King has responded by sacking several officers of the Senarus Tribe pending further investigation and fears for future treachery among their families.

Activity Report Application

Submitting Party: Lubyak
Nation Name of Submitting Party: Imperial & Federal Union of States

Thread Link(s): Pressing the Royal Frontier
Affected Quadrant(s): Delta
Precise Locations (If Applicable): Talosian Expanse, Rheinwacht Line
Nation(s) Involved: Imperial & Federal Union; The Gata'ja

Description: Gata'ja raiders have fallen upon the worlds of the Rheinwacht Line--the spinward frontier of the Imperial & Federal Union. Tensions in the region were already high, with Imperial and Huerdaen settlers both trying to claim the worlds of the Talosian Expanse for their own, and the Gata'ja raids have only worsened the situation. The R.u.B Navy has responded, by deploying forces into the Expanse to drive off the raiders. Many of the refugees from the Great Displacement were used as military settlers to expand the Rheinwacht Line and provide a deeper buffer against the chaos of the Delta Quadrant.

Potential Greater Impact(s): The Talosian Expanse is a zone of expansion contested by both the Huerdaen Star Empire and the R.u.B Union. The Gata'ja raids add an additional concern for both parties, and further destabilise the region. Furthermore, the raids are a further draw on R.u.B strength, espescially in the logistically weak Talosian Expanse.

Tension Report Application

Submitting Party: The Gata'ja
Nation Name of Submitting Party: The Gata'ja Ammudzi

Affected Quadrant(s): Beta, Gamma, and Delta
Precise Locations (If Applicable): N/A
Nation(s) Involved: Up to the nations themselves.

Description: As the Gata'jan Ammudzi begins its raiding campaign, striking many smaller and weaker star states as well as challenging even local quadrant powers, the struggles and battles inevitably weaken defenses, scare merchant traffic, and leave a trail of blood for one to follow should they wish. And many are beginning to follow it; even as the Gata'ja conscript Gamma pirate groups into its attacking forces, through contract or force, more are beginning to trail their attacks, swooping in weakened or unsuspecting targets after they have left, reaping the spoils and causing even more death and chaos in the galactic trade lanes. And as more people are displaced or flee the chaos, those same groups are continue to impress or recruit as they go.

Potential Greater Impact(s): As nations around the galaxy begin to try and grapple with the refugee situation as well as the raider/piracy problem it is growing with every raid the Gata'jans do. Whether intentionally or unintentionally, they are fanning the flames of the galaxy's underbelly and putting even more disruption and pressure on the local economies, with potential for even the galactic economy to start to feel the pinch. Further, the pirates seem to be getting decent weapons and support from somewhere for this, their gear has seen an upgrade recently, which has puzzled quadrant and galactic police and intelligence forces as to where they could have gotten it.

Submitting Party: Sarian Grand Order of Heraldry, Incorporated State Merchant Stellar
Nation Name of Submitting Party: Sarian Raider clans

Thread Link(s):http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=367607
Affected Quadrant(s):Beta
Precise Locations (If Applicable): NA
Nation(s) Involved:Those in the path of the Migration

Description:
As Sarian clans counter Spinward came into contact with the militarized states and national patrol zones in Alpha, the Great Order of Heralds has aparently decided (after the clans effectively bounced on the Imperial Banner fleets of Roania , the combined forces of the TCYS, the S boats of Oyada and Long Patrol forces) upon a new route for the Migration. Heralidic infiltrators and monitoring stations have been reported in several locations overlooking less stable areas, and multiple Juggernaut scale drive emissions have been detected on tertiary routes, all worming there inwards to the beating heart of betas trade and colonization lanes and all seeking to take advantage of the region wide instability.

As the clans still find their populaces climbing ever upwards and the tumultuous growth of outcaste numbers, the bleeding stars of Beta call. Awash with ill protected vessels, trained spacers who no longer have a government aegis to protect them and few truly effective multi polity enforcement or monitoring agencies the fell eyes of a full Sarian migration and the shroud of there own infighting as clan princes vie for dominance grow closer. As each prince dares to more daring acts of mass larceny to gain the war princedom the threat will only increase.

Potential Greater Impact(s): Mass commerce raiding will become increasingly widespread as the clans vie for the greatest pay off from the growing chaos, with each success or even glorious failure forcing clan princes to even more extreme acts of grand larceny as they vie for primacy. While mass system raids will be uncommon in the short term as the clans increase in number and begin to form alliances and increasingly pivot in Betas direction even reasonably secure colonial PDF forces may find themselves under the shadow of Juggernaut.

Tension Report Application

Submitting Party: Perseid Federation
Nation Name of Submitting Party: Perseid Federation

Affected Quadrant(s): All quadrants, primarily Alpha and Beta Quadrant
Precise Locations (If Applicable): n/a
Nation(s) Involved: Perseid Federation, GESO member-states

Description: After almost two decades as a member of the Galactic Economic and Security Organization, the Perseid Federation's legislature, the Eccleserion, has approved the star-state's withdrawal from the alliance. The Persexit has finally taken place, which might send shockwaves throughout the member-states of GESO. The reasons for this moves could be traced to a number of causes, primarily the increasingly belligerent attitude GESO is showing against certain nations of the Gamma and Delta Quadrant—something that the Perseid government finds to be unsupported by any evidence and nonfactual in its nature.

Chief Spokesman of Archon Silvanos Cotsadis, Philomela Mehalitsenou, announced before a press conference that "this decision was not taken lightly by the Perseid government, nor was it desirable for the Perseid Federation to leave." She has assured the galaxy that current friendly diplomatic relations between the Omospondia and GESO member-states shall continue to exist, save for its participation in the organization's free trade network. This does not mean that the Omospondia may consider to nullify free trade agreements—something that Mehalitsenou says should be for another time.

Potential Greater Impact(s): Many analysts worry about the adverse effects that could do to the collective economy of GESO as well as on the Perseid economy itself, along with certain repercussions that may occur in galactic politics. For one, the Perseid Federation may probably take two to four years in order to completely renegotiate with GESO. Tariffs and customs duties may possibly be reimposed on certain GESO members and vice versa, particularly on nations without currently existing free trade pacts made independent of the obligations of the GESO Charter, though the Organ of Commerce and Finance has stated such protectionist measures may most likely be low, as to not drive away foreign investors.

What should be more worrying for the Omospondia, some say would be the blow it could deal on the Perseid Federation's economic growth. Investors from other nations might be less inclined to invest in the Omospondia, and would have more limited access to its markets. The Axia's value could go down within the next few years, and this could adversely affect its position in the economy of the Alpha Quadrant. Worse still, this could put the burden of keeping the Sivulon Trade Network secure mostly on the Perseids, who had previously relied on its allies to do so. This may not go well with the Omospondia, especially in a time where piracy in Alpha is making a comeback.

On the political front, this could result in the Perseid Federation losing its monetary support from GADA, which it uses to partly sustain its accommodation of refugees and migrants. Possibly tensions may rise between it and certain GESO member-states, to which commentators fear may be devastating.

On the flip side of the coin, this may perhaps trigger a recession among GESO countries—after all, the Perseid economy was a key economy in the organization, providing trillions of Credits in investment, revenue and industrial output—though economic analysts may not be sure of things yet, due to other key GESO economies keeping the organization afloat. Only time may tell if such a recession may occur with the Omospondia's withdrawal.

Tension Report Application

Submitting Party: Federal Republic of Free States
Nation Name of Submitting Party: Free State Republic

Affected Quadrant(s): Gamma
Precise Locations (If Applicable): Empty space extending from Free State Republic territory, to: the Liu Xiu Trade Corridor, Lanthe Route [Southern Expanse], Solarian Trade Corridor, Diadromi Ouranos Trade Route
Nation(s) Involved: Free State Republic

Description: Following another year with no reported incursions into the newly established “Crumple Zone”, which helps to guard established Republican Space against any roaming threat originating from deeper Gamma. Officials from the Office of Order and the Office of Security have independently affirmed a large shift of policy for the Republic. To better secure the economic present and future of the Republic, assets from both the Federal Marshal Service as well as the Republican Spatial Navy are being redeployed along prospective trade routes coreward. The aim of this redeployment is to defend economical interests such as bourgeoning trade routes with the Liu Xiu system as well as other star-states against assaults by hostile and outlaw groups, by extending the presence of the Spatial Navy and the Marshal Service into these areas.

Extension of patrolling sectors of the Federal Marshal Service as well as the Republican Spatial Navy into deep space trade lanes is the first step in a wider plan to provide comprehensive security for multiple potential trade routes coreward. Secondarily the Republic is fielding plans and proposals for construction of multiple armed outposts, way stations, and remote-sensing stations situated within deep space along the patrol sectors and trade corridors. These stations shall be constructed to help supply the assets being re-deployed as well as establish a lasting permanent presence in deep space along the trade corridors.

In addition to the shift of assets and focus, the Free State Republic has begun to ready emissary groups to send out to “local” star-states. These emissary groups are hoped to bring home agreements of friendship and cooperation in terms of security and trade. A list of “local” star-states selected for the emissary groups will be made available at a later date.

Potential Greater Impact(s): As the Republic once again begins to open back up to the “Galaxy” at large, its security presence will begin to expand into deep space along potential trade routes with local star states and the Liu Xiu System. The main aim of this expansion is to increase the amount of secure trade coming into and out of the Republic by elongating or splicing into existing trade routes, or by creating entirely new avenues of economic movement with friendly nearby star states.

Ladies and gentleman, the Twelfth Month Edition of the State of the Galaxy is live.

This marks that Version 3.0 of the State of the Galaxy has continued, consistently, for twelve update cycles - twelve months, one year. March will mark the beginning of our new year cycle (March-February), but we have decided to go ahead and roll out some changes. Namely, given the consistent feedback we have gotten - both onsite and offsite - of how well-received the new "purely In-Character," complete with a bit of overt media bias, presentation of the updates have been, we have decided to switch - tentatively - entirely to this format. In the coming months, the State of the Galaxy Status Updates will be presented as they are this month: entirely as a block of news articles. Each article will be from a variety of different In-Character, collective creative property avenues for publication - Galactic Quarterly (The Economist, in space), SPACETIME (TIME, in space), ActivisMedia (IndyMedia, in space), etc. - each, over time, developing their own voices, biases, and editorial style. With any luck, this will be as well received as our first forays into this style were.

Next, I'd like to thank each and every one of you. I think I can speak on behalf of the Board of Editors when I say that without you - submission authors and readers - none of this would be possible. I would also, personally, like to extend by sincerest thanks and gratitude to the Board of Editors for their tireless hours of work put into this project thus far and the tenacity of their continued commitment. I know, at times, things can get a bit hectic with the State of the Galaxy, but we've always worked things out and managed to keep them professional; I see no reason why this would change now. I look forward to working with all of you for another year to come, and I look forward to many more submissions from the NSFT community in the year to come.

On March 30th, the State of the Galaxy (V.3) thread will actually be a year old (originally posted: March 30, 2015), something I didn't entirely think was possible. Evidently, it is. For that, again, I thank you.

— Kyru
