Battle of Xuan Truc, March 1, 1925

The situation in Xuan Truc has gone from stable to almost shattered. The rioters were about to break their ranks and cower inside their buildings as they are being completely suppressed by the Imperial regiments attempting to encircle the perimeter of the city. Nevertheless, as the encircling Imperial regiments got past the half-mile of the city's perimeter, artillery shots were fired onto them. Hearing of this, the commanders positioned the regiments in front of the city to face the direction of where the artillery fire originated, while having the rest of the troops occupy the city. Now, the soldiers and commanders knew who their new enemy was. In their wild guess, they picked out the most plausible and obvious choice of all, not of the foreign powers, but of the one rebellious organization that escalated this war.

Imperials
    - 34th Division (30,000)
    - 22nd Division (28,000)
    - 16 batteries

Liberationists (Truoc Quen and Rioting Citizens of Xuan Truc)
    - 20,000 insurgents
    - 8,000 rioting citizens
    - 30 batteries

Update One

Postby Quen Tu » Wed Dec 03, 2014 3:33 pm

OOC: Hey guys, I'm the guy who controls Quen Minh and Truoc Quen. For an update, can you reference the Truoc Quen as the Quen Tu, please? (in a nice way). This should be a more accurate name for the rebel front. Thanks for your time. :)

Also, I will be creating an OOC forum so that we can discuss out-of-story matters.

After the PEF grows to a strength of 14,000, Generals Petrov and y'Khar petitioned the leaders of the Quen Tu to act on their own. They requested Quen Tu advisers to accompany the force, as translators, so they could better negotiate wiht the local populace. The Puterene leaders announce their intent to travel further inland to Xuan Truc, to aid the rioters in forcing back the imperial forces.

HQ Command Chamber
HMNS Carolean

Admiral Foster and Admiral Fawkes sat in the Command Chamber, Romulus General Tarajono had retired to his quarters a few minutes before, complaining of headaches.
After the hours they had spent strategizing they were not at all suprised when all other officers went to bed. But the argument Heated Debate had ended in a
sound conclusion, they would besiege Tat Castle...

"Is that artillery fire," questioned Dinh Quang Ba, the Imperial Commander of the Xuan Truc Detachment.

"Yes, sir, and it is not one of ours," answered his subordinate.

Quang Ba looked up onto the ceiling above, emitting a significant quantity of breath, emitting as if he is a boss in disbelief of his worker's excuses.

"Great. They've just got themselves into a real fight. But they are stupid enough to come out here in their peasant-like condition. Send two regiments to supress those people who call themselves, "the Yellows." Be very cautious however; therefore send word to the 31st Artillery to rain shells on the forest. We will handle them like how we got used to things. Besides, those guys are a bunch of ragtags and delinquents who haven't seen the very essence of war. Now, off you go."

"Right away, sir." He went off, doing exactly as his superior commanded him to do. Moments later, Quang Ba could see a couple of thousand of figures under the same uniform, marching off to the forest with their guns positioned as if they are Macedonian soldiers in the front line of the phalanx, except more disorganized. In these circumstances around him, Quang Ba hoped this skirmish would really be a skirmish, given the amount of time is usually short, but in his mind, a skirmish to him is really shorter than an hour it takes to march a mile. Assuming that the Quen Tu is made up of unexperienced peasants, Quang Ba's confidence has hit a whole new level of pride and honor. If he were to supress the rebellion himself, then it would make a great deed for his Emperor. He smiled as he saw this. Smiling that victory would surely come to him quickly once the situation in the city quells down and his dream of an honorable victory.

Khuc Quy, humane and respectful as always, accepted the proposal the Puterene general offered him. A sense of gratitiude came to the general and a few minutes later they were on their own individual path. As long as they were helping out, he felt satisfied. He wished them luck before returning to his fellow comrades. His siblings (Cong Ba and Hong Ai) came up to him and asked him on why he made such a decision. With calmness in his voice, Khuc Quy answered them with this reply:

I let him go, because of his free will. A will to spread our cause. We need not to worry about our situation without them, my brother and sister. For I think that they would do a great job of expanding this wave of liberation more outward of our presence themselves than me taking complete control of them. After all, despite having a significant amount of strength we possess, we're all supposed to respect the freedoms of others - being the same goal we're all fighting for.

Understanding what he said, they know when to say no more. For freedom, despite being a word, is also the conquering sense that gave them the feeling to agree what he said, like a soldier understanding and acknowledging the duties he's been given, but subtlely. By then, in the afternoon, they marched over a mile of dirt road and grass. The soldiers, as well as the Nghiem siblings, know that Hoa Nhung is a long road ahead, including the war itself, but their uplifting sense of purpose will ensure them that they will keep going on, never ceasing until it is all over.

Continued they did, covering over seven miles by this evening. They have reached an exapnse of land filled with tall grass and huge bundles of trees, including a river up ahead. Seeing that the troops had their feet exhausted from the march, if not for the dissent of hunger and pain of feet emitted from the repetitive process of simple moderate strolling, Khuc Quy ordered all of the troops to stop and relax for the time being. They sat on the hard ground, consuming anything edible and healthy given to them by their relatives and people in their home city. Even the Nghiem siblings took this chance to relax, so they sat with the troops, being a friend of the people as they were. The troops continued to recuperate, under the sounds of discussions and the blue sky. It was a indeed a time of tranquil. With the sounds of the people happily discussing with one another and the recently silent but cool and serene atmosphere of the area, it made it possible for tranquility to come and mesmerize the band of troops under the illusion of peace. It lasted quite a while, until some men fell down permanently after distant concussions of gunfire sounded.

Xuan Truc, 20 Minutes Later

Image

Imperial troops firing a Maxim gun

For a while, fusillades of gunfire sounded off before large amounts of bullets whizzed through both sides. Not to mention the fact that the Imperial artilery has caused some trouble for the Quen Tu to advance onto the city - besides the Imperial bullets whizzing against them like strong arrows flying straight through. The forest, although exploited as great cover from the enemy, was still in favor of the Imperial side as it absorbed more Imperial artillery shells that blasted the Quen Tu troops nearly sky-high. As the situation on the line of offense that's located on the south-southwest side of the city got more agitated, the commanding officer ordered them to retreat further into the forest. Observing their moves, Quang Ba ordered the center part of his offensive army to push forward. Even for when the Quen Tu's right flank was being gravely agitated, he would still know when to charge them head-on. As for the Quen Tu, despite their artillery doing everything they can to keep the Imperial troops back, those on the first offensive line could not withstand the continous bombardment of the Imperial artillery. To simply put it, their day has started go to against them, even for the rioters in the city.

However, for the situation of the Quen Tu on the west side of the city, plainly, vice versa. Positioned by their army commander, Su Cong Nguyen, they were ordered to strike the city's left side (the Imperial right flank). Although vulnerable to the showers of bullets, thanks to the nearly-flat terrain with some bundles of trees and bushes, the troops were able to move quickly to gain ground of the city. If any one of them would gain sight of the battle above from the heavens, the west side would look like catapult projectiles of the Quen Tu smahing the fortified Imperial wall - whereas, the south side, the opposite. Gaining word of this, Quang Ba ordered his right flank of his center line to supress the advancing Quen Tu.

**********

40 Minutes Later

While suffering moderate casualties, the Quen Tu's left flank offensive were able to ram through the heavy fire of Imperial troops. Quang Ba's center-right flank was too late for making its great contribution to the defeat of Su's troops, although they still have a chance to do so when their commander ordered them to go within the city. They (Quen Tu) filled in the spaces of the streets of the city, encountering and suprressing any enemy they can pick out. Once reaching to the spots where the rioters are currently being pinned down, the Quen Tu gave them a huge boost in morale. Thanking them for the support, the rioters continued their urge to resist with more troops on their side.

Later on, the Imperial troops and the insurgents clashed in the city. Another hour later, the Imperial troops in the city began to falter, due to the insurgents' strong effort on pushing them back (the south side is not so much, although the Quen Tu artillery ceased the Imperial movement for a while). In one moment of the battle, they captured an Imperial artillery position. This greatly assisted the insurgents' effort in winning the battle, since they have made good use of it in bombing out the Imperial presence in the city.

Within moments, the Imperial troops panicked. The Quen Tu were advancing on other Imperial positions - the Imperial center line on the south side was hit in the back. Quang Ba, observing the battle, had a frustrated reaction to the current predicament place upon him.

"You shithead of soldiers. You can't even repel this pestilence of a freedom movement."

Realizing the battle is lost, Quang Ba ordered an eastward retreat. The insurgents cheered on despite suffering heavy casualties, for a victory for them has been gained.

Intermission One: Recent Uprisings, 1925

Postby Quen Minh » Sat Dec 20, 2014 11:41 am

Another set of uprisings followed after the battle in Xuan Truc. The Quen Tu's stand against the Imperial Army gave away to more popular support for the insurrectionist government. The clandestine munitions support from Pribezstrana has made the insurrection what it is in that phase in the history of Quenmin. Over the year of 1921, more uprisings have been blooming like flowers in the countryside.

Sang Co, March 5

This was the second failed uprising of the Quen Tu - the first was in Cong Ha, when a stubborn member of the Nghiêm family led 700 to their fates. This lead to the Committee established there to retreat more southward after the local government executed five of its eight leaders.

Binh Vinh, March 5

A Quen Nong Da Committee finally emerged from the shadows of oppression in their small town and staged an insurgency that they have won. They also raided three ammunition depots nearby their town. Establishing control, they armed those willing to resist the Imperial regime.

Battle of Mai, March 6

Five hours of fighting gave way to the Quen Tu's second victory. With the support of peasants and muntinous Imperial soldiers, Mai was liberated.

Dua Ngong Cuong, March 18

Another Quen Tu Committee establishes full control over the town after it resisted against its local government and military force. The insurgnecy spread and they have taken ammunition depots for building an army.

Dien Bien Phu Conference, April 1

Quen Tu leader Nghiem Khuc Quy and Quen Nong Da leader Ly Chien Sinh meet together in a small town somewhere in the southwestern part of the Empire. They later agree on a coalition against Dai Sat's regime; therefore, this conference gaveway to forming the Liberationist Front.

Gian Canh, April 7

Joint Quen Tu-Quen Nong Da commune revolts against local government. Fails to gain control of major areas containing governmental buildings and police buildings. Retreats to the jungle to rethink their plans.

Dua Vui Tinh, April 13

Village commune rose up against its conservative ruler after armed with Mosin-Nagants and grenades.

Bai Bien Ngao, April 22

Unsuccessful revolt conducted by Quen Tu in the northern central provinces against the war draft. Almost all members of the Quen Tu were executed in random parts of the streets of the town.

Nho Hoan Tuyen, April 22

Another village that rose up against its repressive lord and successfully gains control of the whole vicinity. The insurgency was conducted by a Quen Tu Committee. Quen Tu members provide arms to the villagers.

Ca Tre Dam Province, April 23-27

Sporadic uprisings were conducted by both the Quen Tu and the Quen Nong Da in various parts of the southern part of the province. Raids have also been conducted on military bases and ammunition depots. They succeed in controlling it and armed the citizens wishing to fight.

Phuong Nui, May 3

Members of the Quen Nong Da were breached of launching their own uprising when Imperial security burst into their hiding place. Some were arrested, spared from facing a bullet to the head.

Dinh Quang, May 10

Quen Tu Committee consolidates their control on this city located close to the forested mountains.

Dang Hoang Province, May 12-July 22

Uprisings spread throughout most of this southern-central province in the country.

Quang Phuc Province, May 21-June 6

Quen Nong Da Committees in the countryside unleash a mass wave of uprisings. Successfully establishes control of the province.

Ngua Vui Province, June 12

Thach's army encounters fierce resistance of the Quen Tu. Thach's army pulls out once failing to secure one of its major cities.

La Hai Hoa Province, June 28

Quen Nong Da successfully controls the whole province. Committees everywhere in the provincial countryside unleash their insurrections in various towns and villages.

Nang Tuyet, July 3

Vuong's army encounters Quen Nong Da guerillas on the way to Mai Province.

The Free South, July 3-November 12

Quen Tu and Quen Nong Da now controls the southern provinces, after much effort to resist the Imperial fist.

The Fleet had arrived on the coast near Tat Castle and the troops were scrambling to the few landing craft and Gunboats, fir the rest... Lifeboats.

HMNS Carolean, Command Tower

"General, are your men ready to attack?" asked Admiral Enammuel Foster.
"They are, sir!" Replied Major General Camden, in his regular soft yet booming voice.
"Good, tell them to begin the landing!" Said Foster,"Midshipman Fitzpatrick!"
"Yes Sir?"
"Signal the Fleet, tell them to open fire on the enemy fortifications!"
"Yes Sir!"

First Siege of Tat Castle

Date: December 2, 1925

Echoing across the peaceful landscape were the distant, cacophonous sounds of artillery coming from the foreign warships down on the huge lake near the shores of Tat Castle. But for the Imperial forces stationed in the vicinity, this predicament does not let them go unprepared. Thanks to the lookouts on the wall, Imperial forces got ready in a transcience like how peace transitions into perturbance before the fleet even got to the lake. Every piece of weaponry was prepared for the onslaught. Every soldier stood as still as a statue with their commanders. As for the higher staff, they know when to go out with the crown prince to watch him give a short speech.

"This is what we have been waiting for everyone, a battle. Those foreigners down there are assisting the rebels, supporting their most turbulent deeds. But on this day, they will regret coming to this very land we stand on. They may have stronger firepower than us, but we more than enough strength to take them down. All I can say to you now is this: make them look like fools."

Cheers rang out through the crowd, even from the newly recruited ones. Once the prince and his subordinates returned to their command room, commanders of each battalion rallied their men and proceeded to head on to face the foreign onslaught below. Men were positioned by their commanders, creating a parameter of aegis that would almost encircle the whole fortress. Artillery were stationed with their muzzles pointing to the direction of where their rivals are booming. Once everything is ready, save for some men and a plenty of peach-colored bricks falling on the ground, the artillery were given the first opportunity to emit their shells onto the incoming batch of foriegn troops and vessels. A while later, the foreign troops reached a significant amount of distance that is quite close to the farthest line of Imperial sand pillows. Without a moment passing by, troops from both sides exchanged fire.

Imperials
    - 39,000 infantry (2 Infantry Divisions)
    - 160 sharpshooters (2 Independent Companies)

Siege of Tat Castle

The Fallen Isles Troops had landed and begun the charge towards the walls of Tat Castle, behind them the fleets guns open fire...
A section of the wall was almost destroyed by a barrage of fire from the HMNS Carolean and the HMFIS Galante, enemy troops flew
off the wall as an artillery shell smashed into their position, an officer in the Royal Karanante shouted,"Forward my boys! We may
be called the Forlorn Hope but we are not yet killed!"

Seeing that the center line is beginning to stumble and its wall almost beginning to break, the Crown Prince ordered his right flank containing two infantry battalions and two sharpshooter companies to spread out further to their extreme right in a line shaping a part of an oval, rendering the line thinner until they got past the and the marshes that connected the lake southward. He intends to use it as some sort of a desperate measure while he reinforces his center line with two more regiments on the western side of the castle. Running at a fast pace, they went on like achild fleeing from his friends in a game of dragon snake. At this time, the right infantry battalion stood crouching behind the grassline shooting with their aggressive comrades at the left, having nothing to cover themselves with, lying down stomach-first. The Fallen Isles troops and officers took a little gaze at the thin blue line, leading them to go forth and suppress the newly-formed Imperial line. They ran forward under fire and they gave them their bullets, without knowing of the sharpshooter companies remaining hidden among the almost-shallow, calm, waters and the tall grass sticking out of its depths.

Siege of Tat Castle

King Alexander II, before leading his troops into battle, had decided to give them an inspirational speech before he leapt into the landing craft, he began...
"Gentlemen... Today is the day that men will speak of after a victory, the day that children will aspire to recreate... The day that will echo throughout history for
all eternity, so. Will you, men, follow me and make this day, glorious?"
"Yes, your grace!" Came the Response.
"Good! Because I cannot take them alone, Duke Vladamir cannot take them alone! But you men I'm sure can..."
The cheer that followed was indescribably loud and painful to the ear.

15 Minutes Later

The King and his men had hit the beach and they were surprised to not be under heavy fire, it seemed as if the Forlorn Hope
had taken the castle all by themselves, but that was impossible surely. Anyway their artillery was still firing at the now broken
wall...

"Well. Look what we have over there," one of the sharpshooters said.

"What is it, Lieutenant" asked the female sharpshooter, Lieu Thi Hien.

"That man in the front of his fellow comrades. Take a look at his behavior. The way he leads his men. See how he raises that sword like that?"

"I do."

"Do you know what it means?"

"Certainly."

The rest of the two sharpshooter companies stood as they were in the very waters and grass after firing rounds that can be almost nigh detectable by the foreign troops. Their eyes have attracted something very charismatic. Lieu Thi Hien can even see it too. The man leading his troops into battle in a way that seemed so like those in medieval times. Due to his particular demeanor, she knew as well as the others that this man was of obvious royalty.

"He really does resemble those noble military leaders of the past," again commentated Thi Hien.

"The heavens must be kidding us. Is he that foolish to come out in the heat of battle like that," said another sharpshooter.

"Probably so. You know how those kinds of people are: dignified in their noble status, in their aura of glory, attracting so many people into doing what he wants them to?"

"Of course," replied Thi Hien.

"So, anyone here want to take out their king?"

"I would surely do. It would be such a pleasure," spoke another sharpshooter.

"I'm glad you would volunteer, but how about you, Thi Hien? Espeically for a female, this can be such a great honor."

"Yes, sir. As it is said by our lectureres in the academy: 'eliminate the important officers first.'"

Within moments, she aimed. Thi Hien was, by far, the best of her kind. She practiced concentrating her shots and holding firm her rifle ever since she enlisted. She was often taunted for being a woman, weak and feeble as such a figure is, but she proved them the opposite after showing off her impressive abilities. That was the experience she would conjure up again. After being focused on sighting the king, a bullet emitted from the barrel of her rifle. Rushing towards the air, it landed on the target that she did not desire: another soldier she did not know of.

Still residing in the command room, the Crown Prince and his subordinates glanced to where the destroyed part of the wall is. They saw what was coming. A king leading his own men into battle, foolhardy as he is.

"Things are really getting interesting, aren't they," wondered the Crown Prince.

"Yes, Your Majesty. It seems as if they are bringing that old sense of chivalry back into the modern world," replied one of his superiors.

"Well, I think this is our chance to make it archaic again. Do you have your men hidden on our right flank, General?"

"Yes, Your Majesty. They are ready to pounce on them like tigers in the jungle."

"How about you, General. Is the same thing going on our left?"

"Definitely, Your Majesty."

"General Ly, are you ready to strike their center?"

"Affirmed, Your Majesty. We couldn't wait to go on the offensive head on."

"Good, good. Proceed with our pincer attack, my loyal brethren."

All of his subordinates acknowledged him with a "yes, Your Majesty" reply, before going out to battle. Having enough of the sight, the Crown Prince returned to his chair to relax himself.

"Leading your men like that," he said before scoffing. "Very foolhardy of you. Very foolhardy."

OOC:I am currently working on a post but it would seem that the sudden death of King Alexander is, to me atleast, godmodding sir.

"What the hell, Thi Hien? It looks like he's still alive. Why couldn't you have killed him? You're like our best shot here. You could've at least sent a bullet to the top his head, or even his forehead. You could've concentrated more," exclaimed the lieutenant.

"I feel like his people need their king for a little longer. It would be grave loss for his family back home as well as the country, seeing how much his people admire him. And besides, look over there."

She pointed towards the bunched-up trees to the north. The lieutenant, gazing at the spot as was requested by her, saw what was at first inconspicuous but manifest in itself. There were a large number of troops, their troops, moving behind the cover of bark and leaves. It was so much troops that it looked like as if there were a million. (For the sake of not god modding, it is not a million actually, it is in the thousands)

"Oh, I see."

"As I've said before, there's no need to send the king back to heaven."

Few instances later, they hear the crunching of grass behind them. Looking at the direction of the sound, they, as well as the other sharpshooters know of what is expected. With the pincer attack underway, this battle is now over before it was even over.

King Alexander jumped as the man directly to his left was shot dead between the eyes and killed, he quickly rallied his men.
"Soldiers of Vionna-Frankenlisch, Who do you fight for?" He asked already knowing the answer...
"You, Sir!"
"No, no you don't, you don't fight for your King, you don't fight for his Kingdoms, you don't fight for honour and glory, you don't fight for money. you
don't fight for your families... You fight for God, For Righteousness and for Vionna and Frankenlisch!"
Another cheer arose and the King spoke again, "Now, let us avenge that mans death and let us kill these infidels! To Righteousness and Glory, Charge!"

The King and his men surged forward up the slope, their bayonets glimmering, begging for blood, they slammed dead into the line of enemy skirmishers
that had tried to kill their king, some shouted battle cries like 'God and Glory! before plunging their blades into the enemy.
Before long they had killed many, but lost many, and were getting close to Thi Hien and her detachment.

War cries reverberated loudly as the sharpshooter companies glanced to the sight most frightening for them. Thi Hien and her comrades could see it too. A horde of foreign troops were heading their way, stabbing any adversary in their wake, even almost obliterating their comrades to their left. The lieutenant, shocked and quite startled, ordered his detachment to retreat to the grass area. Once fleeing from the area of danger, the other squads of the whole company they're in began doing the same. They ran like tigers gaining on their prey, being that they are the ones being hunted.

A few meters later, they see bunches of their fellow troops expose themselves out of the green, tall grass. The sharpshooters ducked, while they opened fire, doing the best they can to suppress a significant number of their opponents, so to gain the upper advantage.

OOC: Sorry for the late post.

King Alexander and his men were stabbing and slashing away at the enemy snipers but in an instant almost 300 of them were downed as a volley of fire rippled from the breach in the curtain wall.
"Corporal!" Alexander shouted to a nearby radioman, recognising the rank slide on his arm. "Radio the fleet, tell them that we're falling back and that we wish for the ships to give as much artillery fire
as possible, I even want the AA guns firing at the enemy, do you understand?"
"Yes Your Grace!" The soldier replied, obliging. The Vionna-Frankenlischian troops retreated down the beach but King Alexander ordered them to stop and wait at the boats, Alexander himself clambered into one
of the gunboats and shot a couple of cannon shells at the enemy positions.

In an instant the guns of the HMNS Carolean, HMNS Lion, HMNS India and the HMNS Duncan. Even the Fallen Isles Fleet was firing, the HMFIS Galante was doing plenty of damage to the
Enemy defences. The losses that the Imperial Troops took were unknown to the Vionnans but they were sure that the shell that had just landed in the Castle's Command HQ must have done some damage.

OOC:If it would be okay, could you post your losses so far and i'll post mine.

3rd Expeditionary Losses: 742 Soldiers of the 3rd Expeditionary Killed in Action and 1006 Men Wounded.
Forlorn Hope Losses: 1410 Killed or Wounded.
Fleet Losses: 13 Sailors Killed, 35 Sailors Wounded. 1 Marine Killed, 6 Marines Wounded. 1 Gun out of action: HMNS Lion.

"They're falling back, sir, but they are still active in the fight" exclaimed one of the Crown Prince's subordinate officers.

"That's good enough." The Crown Prince gazed at the sight of the aftermath, sighting everything, every man killed or wounded, and the damages done by the enemy.

"As for now, we must fortify our positions. We cannot make another push to run them out of our nation, since they've got ships that can easily pin our troops down. Send messengers out to the front lines to remain in their current positions, until I say otherwise."

"Yes sir."

"On the other hand, I need to send a message. Lieutenant Colonel Mac, telegram the capital and the provincial capital that I need more men in this area. I cannot afford to keep fighting the Vionnans like this."

"As you wish, Crown Prince," the Lieutenant Colonel responded.
