All Out Conflict
(Working Title)
IRC: #Omnibellum
First things first...
Hello all, I am, obviously, Aldarminia. I've been role-playing on NationStates for a few years now. I had humble beginnings as a newb starting out in a now long-dead region, known then as Nordoslavicia. My first RPs were mediocre at best, in quality and length. But, I have grown as an RPer and writer, and as a player of the game in general, and now I am a permanent and happy resident of the ancient(by NS standards) region of Gholgoth. I cannot claim to witness a majority of NSHistory, but I have seen my fair share, and it has been quite a ride. I really do love this website and this community, not only because it is a wonderful outlet, but also because it is filled with talented and interesting characters, in-and-out-of-character. That is why I am so excited to present to you all what will essentially be a community-wide "field day" of role-playing: Omnibellum(Working Title).
The goal of this Omnibellum Project is to bring together the community, not just the major regions but all the players as well, in an attempt to role-play the closest thing to an NSWorld War that has ever been seen. I know some of you may be familiar with and remember the Mayday Wars, and you might even say that was as close as it's going to get. That, and the ongoing(?) slaver conflicts. I beg to differ though. Omnibellum, if all goes well, should light the NSGlobe in a fire like no other. If we agree to this being canon(I'll be discussing this more soon), I want all of our nations and characters to quiver in PTSD and blood-drenched memory whenever this war is brought up in IC conversations in future role-plays. But most of all, I want this to be one of the most fun and most memorable experiences the participants of this project to have ever had in the duration of their NS careers.
Now, though, let's get to the details.... Well, actually, that's where THIS thread and you all should come in. There are no details at this very moment besides what I have told a few people via telegrams. To accomplish such a daunting task as role-playing a global NS conflict, there is going to have to be a great deal of planning, organizing, and, as I imagine, negotiating beforehand. There is something that should be made clear right now. This will NOT become a clusterf*** that happens all in one thread, and it will not become a mosh pit for a bunch of OPs to wave their e-peens around. Any RP thread made under the Omnibellum's umbrella of a story will be subject to mine and the community's approval, and I will take up the responsibility myself(along with Mentors and Moderators of course) of regulating threads and mediating disputes. Hopefully, though, if we plan this well enough, there will not be any arguments for me or the authorities to meddle in. Now that that is settled, I will emphasize that once front threads and RPs have been made, those OPs will have "local" authority over their respective threads. And, of course, while playing out this massive war, we should all follow the rules and terms and conditions of the NationStates website as well as the general rules of etiquette of role-play: No godmodding, no metagaming, blah blah blah, etc.
Ugh, formalities over, here's a list of things we are all going to have to decide on TOGETHER before we start this war:
2. ORBATs Required?-I personally hate ORBATs just because I believe they're tedious and take away from the fun, but I know all too well that they can be very necessary. Thus, I propose that we leave it up to the different war threads' OPs to decide whether or not ORBATs will be required.
3. Location, Location, and Locations!-This war is going to have A LOT of fronts as well as several different instances of political intrigue and international diplomacy. Aldarminia itself is going to open up several fronts in different regions because it is going to have an imperialism-gasm.
4. Ours IS to Reason Why-Every nation, or if your region/alliance is fighting together as a cohesive unit, is going to have to have a legitimate IC reason(casus belli) for entering this conflict. Aldarminia's, for example, is that its Empire has been in an era of "Restoration," and it seeks to rein in once again the old days of the world-spanning Imperium. If you cannot think of a reason for your nation to be involved, I welcome you to use Aldar's Patented "R.A.I.D.S." System. Regions(Your region is provoked or your nation is looking for hegemony in the region or whatever related to your region)-Alliances(Your nation is called to arms by an alliance it is a member of)-Imperialism(Your nation seeks conquest and blood for the blood God)-Depression(Economic circumstances force your nation into the conflict)-Security(Your nation must defend itself or its assets).
5. FIRIN' MAH LAZORZ!-Not all of us play in the strict tech limitations of modern tech and even choose to use the vague techtag of "P/MT" because we walk the lines of Post-Modern technology. I welcome the use of this tech, not just because my nation has some of its own, but because it can make for some really interesting role-plays. But, not all of us want to fight endless hordes of supahsoljaz and supahtankz, so I propose that the use of non-MT tech be confined to certain contingencies where all those participating give their consent. Also, some degree of reason and realism is always good for an RP.
6. Unfair Fights Might Be Fun, But Chill, Bro...-Seriously, it will be cool to watch some of our braver players with smaller nations(myself included) to take on some of the "titans" of the NSWorld, but if a nation is pop-capped or if a nation is drastically smaller than that of its opposition, I ask that a high degree of courtesy is applied to these situations. Little guys, do not feel as if you should have to have a random baby boom to "stand a chance" in this war. Big guys, do not assume that the little guys are just going to let you run them over. Be sensible when fighting each other. Remember, the goal is not to win, but to have fun.
7. Fresh Meat... heh-Considering this is going to be open to the community as a whole, there will probably be a lot of people new to RPing here on NS participating. I would ask that NSMentors and the more experienced RPers to actively try to pair themselves up or create fronts with the newer/less experienced/less skilled RPers so that we can give them a good learning experience as well as a good time.
8. What's in a Name?-Badassery and memorability of course! Seriously, "Omnibellum" is just something I came up with off the top of my head. There will probably be a lot of cooler names for all the sub-wars, but I want to see you guys' ideas on a name that would be all-inclusive for this massive war. If you guys like Omnibellum, I'll leave it, but I do not care.
Woot, alright, I gotta do this because I am going to be using some of you as go-to people when something needs to be done or settled, I am requiring an application be filled out with or without RP samples. This is just so I can get an OOC and IC participants list and so I can get an idea of who wants to do what and is willing to do what. The RP samples, I will be looking at just to confirm you are not someone who has repeated incidents of bad RPing behavior, and I will also use the samples to discern the experienced and new RPers, so I can recommend pair-ups if I feel the need to do so. These will be recommendations, not orders. I cannot and refuse to force any of you to RP with someone you do not want to. An example of the application can be found in the spoiler below
Lastly, this thread is to be central network for this war and its planning as well as the planning of all subsequent fronts and RPs, but I welcome OPs to make OOC threads for their various fronts if need be.
Feel free to post your applications, suggestions, RP ideas, and such.
