Fabian nods and looks to Maximilian. "Well, when are we going?" He says, in his usually casual way

Maximilian smiles

"Right now. The airship is all ready. Moscow won't dare shoot us down."

Within hours, the ship was floating over the Russian capital. On the way over, the Imperials radioed Moscow, informing them it was a diplomatic mission solely. Upon docking, Maximilian and Fabian were escorted into the belly of the beast.

They were led to the Office of General Secretary and Chairman of the Communist Party Grigori Ulyanov.

While Maximilian privately agrees with his friend's sentiments, he knows now is not the time for strong words. Be gives a stiff and quick bow to the General Secretary.

"Your Excellency," he begins, "we have come to negotiate."

Ulyanov--a fat, balding man who reeks of vodka and sardines--gives a slight smile.

"Yes, of course my friends. Please, sit, and we shall talk."

Fabian sits next to Maximilian and tries his best not to grimace or treat the diplomats as inhuman.

"Max, I think you should start this out, since the Russians have stopped all communication with the Kingdom. You'd have better sway, right now."

"The incursion into Poland has caused considerable anxiety in Budapest. The mobilisation along the border doesn't help. Ulyanov, if you don't back down, I can't rein in Erno--he'll have war over this."

The General Secretary's mouth twitched.

"You also must understand, that with Germany's rise and the power of Hungary-Sweden, the Soviet Union is increasingly isolated. Poland is our last ally in Europe. We will not pull out."

Maximilian was growing frustrated.

"If Erno goes to war, the Imperial Republic and France goes with him, you have to understand."

"But its not the Imperial Republic you should worry about. If my brother goes to war, nothing will stop him to make sure you all burn. He will not kill you. He will torture you. And let you watch yourself die." Fabian sighs.

"But the positive thing is, you'll be the only ones he does it to. Anyone who raises a weapon to his army will only be shot or obliterated by explosives. He has a special place in his hatred for those who make the orders." He continues.

"Fabian, will Erno at least recognise the new regime in Poland? If he recognises that, and the Soviets withdraw, will that avert his scorn?"

Ulyanov, who realised war at this time was something be avoided, seemingly was all right with this.

"My brother will only back down if Poland is returned to Status Quo. Or at least another fair election is held. If the Communist party wins, we will recognize it. If those demands are not met, we will force them out." Fabian retorts.

Ulyanov's hand clenched into a fist.

"That isn't doable. I have no guarantee that you or Germany won't manipulate the elections. No, I'm afraid we cannot allow that."

Maximilian was growing frustrated. At this pace, war was inevitable.

"Here's this: your troops leave Poland, Kijek's Party remains the leader, but the Soviet Union has to agree to not place troops within 100 km of the Hungarian-Soviet and Swedish-Soviet Borders. Would that suffice, Fabian? Erno has to realise he can't always get what he wants, but sometimes you have to get what you need."

Fabian sighs in defeat. "I guess it'll work. My brother won't be happy. Not one bit. But it'll suffice to ease tensions in my homeland. Mark my words, so much as one of your little monkeys from Moscow interferes in Warsaw, we will hear about it. And we will retaliate. The Poles will be independent, no matter how much Russian archaic, heavy-fisting there is." He says with an angry twitch in his face, then stands and moves toward the door.

"Come on, Max. We need to get back to Budapest before my brother unleashes the fiery gates of hell."

Maximilian nodded, at least happy war was averted--this time. He rose and bowed to Ulyanov.

"General-Secretary," he said simply as the two nobles quit the Kremlin and returned to the airship.

Once on-board he turned to Fabian.

"You should call Erno and tell him the Soviets will withdraw, this time."

"Excuse me, Max. I do need to make that call." Fabian says, as he walks away, removing the phone from his pocket.

He calls his brother in Budapest from the air, "Erno. Its Fabian. The Russians agreed to recall their men from Poland and Belarus. As well as pull back their troops at a minimum 100 kilometers, from our borders."

"And what of who is ruling the nation?" Erno asks, sternly.

"We were not able to negotiate for a status quo or a re-election..." Fabian replies, coyly. Knowing his brother wasn't going to be happy.

Erno sighs heavily and says, "It'll do." Before hanging up suddenly.

Fabian returns to Maximilian and says, "That went better than I expected."

After the two royals were safely away from Moscow, the General-Secretary and his council met. Ulyanov ordered the immediate withdraw as promised, but he was fuming.

"This blatant act of imperialism will not stand," he yelled as he paced around the room. "Those gypsies who rule Hungary have gone too far but as long as the pigs in America support them, there is nothing we can do."

"For now we simply have to lick our words and try again later. At least Poland will support us on the world stage."

"Yes, but more could be done." He paused for a minute, taking a quick drink.

"I'll make those pigs suffer. Increase our support to the rebels in South America. We'll make them bleed. Also, I want our best men there. I'll give my orders personally."

"Anyway, I'll see you again." He says with a nod.

Amazon Basin. 5 December 2132.

The Imperial IX Corps, Third Army, Army Group America under the direct command of Minister of War Prince Augustus Maximilian de Britannia was conducting search and destroy missions throughout the Amazon Basin in response to a rise of guerilla forces--likely supplied by the Soviets judging from their hardware--in the area. Prince Augustus' forces were making short work of the rebels, but the fighting continued one.

Today, however, was a special day. The Prince's brother in law, Prince Mihaly of Hungary-Sweden, would be arriving today to visit his good friend.

A helicopter flies over the jungle until it hovers over the clearing where the helipads were stationed. It slowly lowers down from the canopy and onto the ground. The sliding doors open up to show 6 of the Royal Guard and out-steps Prince Mihaly, Heir to Hungary-Sweden, to meet his brother in-law.

As the chopper lands a group of Praetorian on the scene give the Prince a 21-gun salute. Prince Augustus--who was waiting, approaches his brother in law and gives his old friend a hug. Augustus was tall and handsome, beloved by everyone in the Imperial Republic and outside, respected even in nations opposed to the Americans. The prince gives Mihaly a rifle.

"I know you've just arrived, but Lucius and I received word that a small group of rebels has been found about a mile away. The 5th Rifle is going to investigate, let's have some fun while we're here."

"Some hunting ought to be fun." Mihaly says as he cocks his rifle. "And I hope our prey are Reds." He continues with a laugh.

"Excuse any bad shots out there. Although I was in the Guard for years, I still haven't shot in quite a while."

The Prince smiled.

"There will be enough rats out there for you to shoot at, and I'm not talking about rodents. Let's go."

Lucius joined them along with about five Praetorian, Mihaly's guards, and a detachment of the 5th. They experience light resistance along the way.

"How are you and Anya getting along," the Prince asks--referring to his sister--as he shoots a guerilla.

"Ana has been remarkable. She's grown to love Hungary and the people adore her. She's a regular Diana! She's up in Cluj, today. Helping with the homeless." Mihaly says, as he fires a few shots into the jungle.

"And she says you need to call more often!" He laughs
