Grigory stopped in his tracks. A missile had launched, streaking towards the very same icebreaker vessel he had been watching so carefully only minutes ago. It had originated from further south, along the ridgeline, and moments later there was an explosion on the ridge itself.
He squinted into the darkness, the blizzard ruffling his beard, weighing up his options. He could go check it out, and risk a firefight for no reason, or he could let it go.
The Bear of Baikal had only one option. He buzzed his snowmobile a little way south, then left it running with the lights on, facing back towards the ridgeline, then set out on foot heading further south.

The massive Chernarussian fleet would consist of:
The carrier Svetlána
2 cruisers
5 destroyers
1 frigate
3 corvettes
10 submarines
The commander of this fleet, Admiral Ivanov Romovsky, has been ordered strictly not to engage with the enemy unless forced to. An additional fleet, which information remains strictly classified, will protect supply lines. The primarily goal of Ivanov's fleet at the moment is to escort the transport ships. The appropriate equipment, including proper uniforms suited for the cold weather, will also be transported in separate ships. Carrier based AWAC aircraft will be launched to pinpoint the locations of enemy fleets.

They will have enough food and ammunition to last two months; the scouting expedition's supplies and troops will be transported in several large transport ships and will be escorted by several destroyers and cruisers. If an enemy force is seen to be approaching the expedition fleet, they are ordered immediately to retreat.
