To Chunwall I traveled... (IC, Closed)

Postby Chadicia » Tue Jun 10, 2014 6:12 pm

The capital city of the Commonwealth was covered in a fresh layer of snow, the grey clouds above threatening to unleash more northern fury upon those who resided in Chunwall.

On the edge of the Government District on a raised platform that was a part of the wall itself, the platform had been cleared of snow and seven figures stood on it waiting, one dressed in a sky blue long coat and cap with a gold trim on both, one or two metals adorning his lapel, one each of his sides three men stood in identical black and red uniforms and pistols at their sides. They lied in wait for the first dignitaries to visit the land in several decades.

After a few minutes of waiting, a dull buzzing noise began to be heard, and a few minutes later a squadron of four helicopters in formation came flying over the horizon. As they approached the platform, the three helicopters surrounding the fourth broke off and flew in separate directions, leaving only one to approach the landing zone. The rotors whipped up the snow around as it slowly settled down, creating a powerful draft against the men standing in wait. The moment it touched pavement, the doors swung open and a set of nine Guards stepped out and to attention. A few moments later, as the rotors died down and the engine shut off, the Emperor himself stepped out of the darkness inside, his blue uniform partially covered by a heavy blue overcoat.

The man in blue called the Red Guards to attention, they stomped their foots together and the man approached the Emperor, his high topped boots clicking on the pavement, saluting the Valcourian when he reached him.

"High Overseer Servile at your service your Majesty, may I be the first to welcome you to the Commonwealth. I have been instructed to escort you to meet with The Lord Commander." Servile said, gesturing to the tall spire in the distance that was Chunwall Tower.

The Emperor returned the salute, but other than that remained unmoving, his expression set in stone; only his eyes flinched slightly as he looked over the distant tower but for a moment. He gave a nod to Serville before making a slight gesture to his Guards, who in unison formed up behind him.

Not commenting on the Emperors silence he gestured for them to follow, Servile lead the back towards the guards who after prompted by a gruff command in Polish formed up around their group. The High Overseer guided the Emperor down a set of stone step to where a single old fashioned volt wagon-style limousine was waiting, Servile stopped before it and gestured for the Emperor to enter first.

The Emperor gave a slight nod to Servile as he climbed into the vehicle, taking his seat while he gestured for his Guards to remain at the launch pad.

The High Overseer entered into the seat across from the Emperor, removing his cap as he did so, Servile tapped the glass that separated the driver and the passengers and they were on their way. The vehicle immediately moved onto one of the main roads and hugged the left side, the road was absent of other cars, rather a pair off steel tracks ran on the right side of the road, which it was seen that they housed street cars as they passed several on their journey.

The buildings were all similar in construction, being made of unappealing grey stone with only a few windows, on the sidewalks one could see patrols of Red Guards marching down the street in tight formation or the occasional passer bye who sported either a blue, black, or even more rarely a brown long coat that were accented with bronze or silver. At every available spot a flag poll was plated, the red and white flag of the Commonwealth flying proudly in the north winds, the car turned a corner and began heading towards Chunwall Tower, the spire becoming closer and bigger in perspective.

The Emperor remained stoic as he glanced out the window at the passing city, any emotion he might be feeling hidden by a facade.
"An impressive planned city," he finally murmured, glancing back at Servile for a moment.

Servile nodded, taking note of the Emperors withdrawn actions. "It was built for efficiency." He said back, the conversation ended as the car came close to the tower, the tall spire dominating the local space with its massive base and it's length reaching far into the sky and disappearing into the clouds.

The car drove around and stopped in front of the tower, stone steps lead up to the large metal double doors that were flanked by yet another set of Commonwealth flags and two Red Guards. The driver exited and opened the door for the High Overseer and the Emperor, the two exited and Servile lead the foreign leader up the stairs and towards the intimidating entrance of the Commonwealths centre of command.

As the Emperor made his way up the stairs with Servile, a lone member of his Guard suddenly appeared out of nowhere. This drew suspicious glances from everyone, including the Emperor himself. Suddenly, the Guard was bathed in an eerie red light, and a moment later a changeling was standing where the Guard had been.
"Ah, Formosus," the Emperor said, his face shifting just enough so a tiny smirk could be seen on it. He turned back to Servile. "I do hope that a lone guard will not be seen as too much?" he asked.

Servile's face remained as it always had been "I suppose not." He said neutrally, before snapping his fingers, the large lord opened via two Red Guards, the High Overseer lead the Emperor inside.

The main room was furnished and decorated grandly, a red carpet lead to the front receptionist desk and banners, pictures, paintings, and other decorations. As the door closed the secretary (an elderly women clad in a black uniform) stood up and saluted, Servile nodded to her and she sat back down, he lead the Valcourian and Changeling over towards a pair of elevator doors that sat next to the front desk and behind what looked like a metal detector.

"The Lord Commander is on the top floor" the Overseer explained, stepping into the detector. There was a moment when nothing happened before the machine dinged and lite up green. Servile gestured for the Emperor to do as he had done.

"Just a scan to detect any... Undesired object, simply procedure I hope you don't mind your majesty."

The Emperor remained expressionless as he did as Servile had, stepping through the detector and pausing for a moment. The machine went red for a moment, and the Emperor glanced down at his belt for a moment. He showed Servile his ceremonial sword at his waist.
"Am I to assume this must be left here?" he asked.

The High Overseer considered the statement for a moment, exchanging a small glance with the secretary before looking back at the Emperor.

"Keep it." Servile said "It's only for looks after all." As he finished speaking there was a ding and the elevator doors opened, revealing the empty compartment ready for use.

The Emperor gave a faint nod before gesturing for the changeling to follow; it passed through the detector without an issue and joined the Emperor and Servile in the elevator.
"Just how tall is this tower?" the Emperor asked as the doors closed.

The elevator vibrated as it slowly pulled the group skywards.

"About eight-hundred and twenty-nine meters tall." Servile responded to the question "And that's not including the lightning rod."

"Impressive," the Emperor said plainly as he glanced down at the changeling, who was sitting obediently in silence next to him. "And how old is it?" he asked.

"The tower itself is estimated at about a hundred and thirty five years" the High Overseer said "Although in recent years we have made... Additions." The lights above the door told them they were just passing the hundredth floor.

The Emperor nodded once as Servile explained to him this information.
"Just how was a structure this tall built in the 19th century?" he asked, glancing at Servile again. The changeling next to him glanced momentarily at the Chadician as well before resuming his statuesque posture facing forward.

The Overseer shrugged ever so slightly "Towers build fast when you have a lot of slaves I suppose." The lite up numbers told them that they were nearing the top floor, and would arrive there in a minute or two.

"Even with slave labor," the Emperor continued, his voice in a monotone, "19th century technology would not allow for a building over 30 stories." He glanced at Servile again. "Am I to assume its current height was added on in recent years?"

"This is correct, while the tower was started in the mid 19th century, it was only really completed in the early 2000's" the elevator dinged and the door opened "We're here." Servile said, stepping out onto the carpeted floor, they entered into a large room that was floored with plush carpet, on the other side of the room a set of large doors stood, flanked by two Red Guards.

The High Overseer turned to the Emperor "If you shall remain here for a moment, I will notify The Lord Commander of your arrival." Servile walked over to the doors, cracking them open and slipping inside, closing the doors behind and leaving the Emperor alone with the Changeling and the two motion-less Red Guards.

The Emperor doffed his overcoat as he waited, letting a Red Guard take it from him as he returned to standing still with the changeling.
"Most impressive, Sir," the changeling said quietly.
"Indeed, Formosus," the Emperor replied softly.

"The Lord Commander will see you now." He said gesturing to the slightly ajar door "I ask that your... Guard remain outside."

The Emperor gave a slight nod to Servile, then glanced over at the changeling, giving it another nod. The changeling responded with one of its own before the Emperor advanced towards the door, letting Servile lead him inside.

The High Overseer lead the Emperor through the door, it being held open by a Red Guard. They entered into the large room, a large desk sat at the far end flanked by flags of the Commonwealth, and a glass door to the side lead to a balcony.

Servile spoke to the man at the desk, The Lord Commander "Emperor Constantine of Valcouria your excellency." He stepped back towards the door "I'll leave you to discuss" he said before closing the door. The Lord Commander stood up from his desk, a smile coming to his face.

Lord Commander Chadwick Nalklov was tall but not overly so, thin but not a skeleton, his skin was a pale olive colour and his hair an oily black and slicked back away from his face, he also sported at moustache and goatee on his face, and most noticeably his eyes were the colour of molten liquid gold.

He was dressed in a black and red uniform, adorned with three stars on ach of his shoulders and every sort of metal imaginable.

Nalklov kept his smile on his face as he approached the Emperor, stretching out and offering his hand to Constantine.

"Emperor Con-Stan-tine" the man said smoothly, pronouncing each syllable carefully as to not say it incorrectly, his accent was faint but still noticeable "It is an honour and a pleasure to finally make your acquaintance."
