From The Astholmian Mail:
At 12.32pm today, violent protests broke out, overthrowing hated leader Paul Abaeze Okoya, who had been imposing severe restrictions on the nation, banning alcohol, which led to a rise in illegal smuggling from abroad, banning homosexuality (although even the police would not impose the law) and attempting to dismantle churches, and preventing foreigners owning land, and reducing tourism opportunities. He had taken the nation in a military coup in 2012, and they have had to endure 2 full years of hell. He even forced conscription on his own people; they did not like, or respect the military.
Brute force was used by the military if the laws were not enforced, with there being severe human rights abuses.
Okoya has since fled, and now is believed to be in Astholm, with armed guards.
He was overthrown by rioters who invaded the palace, and stole treasures from it, with some armed guards of his doing an about-turn and turning on their employer (after discreet payments, apparently); and then parts of the palace were set ablaze. Art worth $50,000 was stolen by rioters.
His palace, in the capital Hughestown, was looted, and his prized car, a 2013 Mercedes S600L, stolen by a looter.
Now anarchy reigns, with no government, and countries fighting to take it as theirs.
The islands, independent for over 500 years, are now being threatened, both as an independent state, and politically.
Astholm are now working on peacekeeping missions there, but this looks threatened.
