The Weather is Overcast


It was a peaceful but overcast day at the Guardian Isles AFB. The waves were nice, the Double Yellow-Headed Parrots (Turmenista's national animal) were singing, and it seemed like everything was going fine.


In reality, everyone was planning. The Turmenistan's 10th fleet could arrive at any moment. 5 C-10 Heavy Cargo Plane/gunships and 15 F-69 Multirole VTOLS were stationed at the runway, ready to launch at any moment.

Akiirian government is worried of what has been happening between Somalia and Turkmenista, worried of war. Akirii is preparing an army for making sure the war doesn't get out of control, if a war does break out.
"Sir Boucher!"
High Commander Boucher raises his eyes from the newspaper he was reading yo hhe man calling him.
"What is it?"
The man at the door responds; "Sir, when looking at the satellite pictures of Turkmenista bases, it seems peaceful. Maybe it was a false alarm?"
Boucher laughs a bit. "Just because it LOOKS peaceful doesn't mean it is peaceful. They could just be finishing plans or something."

Somalia

Kato over looked at a map of Somalia and then looked at all the possible fronts of a possible invasion of Somalia while his brother was leading the nation itself. In the past few years, Somalia had a brief civil war which in turned, allowed the rise of the Hammer brothers to power and to unite the militia groups together to form a more brutal force than working independently and being weaker powers. Kato had being taught by a number of Al Qaeda, former IRA and Viet-Cong military strategist rather than be an amateur leader. It explains of how successful he was during the Somalian civil war and how a smaller militia group overpowered much larger ones. Now, he had the allegiance of the militia groups of Somalia that form into a more professional military force but they lacked the means to engage a naval force of any size. The only naval force they had were a small number of PT-Boats, Armadale Class, which they use to smuggle out items and board enemy vessels. Recently, they were targeting random shipping that were passing through Somalia waters but they moved more to the drug and slave trafficking into other areas of interest. With amount of wealth they obtained, Kato had authorised the introduction of new and improved weapons, which includes stingers, more variants of the AK series, improved RPG’s and easier ways to develop and produce explosives to become more independent. In recent days, Kato had recently acquired a small number of sea mines that they recently started to use against the shipping. When they can’t board a ship, they would deploy a number of sea mines on the ship hull. If it cripple the ship, the raiders would take on board anyone who was still alive and hold them to ransom. If it was still possible, the raiders would then attempt to salvage what goods they could find to be sold on the black market.

Abrafo was specialised in the economics and public relations. Instead of following the traditional methods of terrorism organisations of supressing the population, Abrafo instead focus on improving the public and helping raise the poverty level of Somalia. In doing so, he was able to sway the population into their favour while they continue to help the local population. Somalia didn’t become a first world class nation, but instead became an improved third world nation. With Abrafo controlling the population to their cause, and Kato controlling all the militia groups in Somalia, Somalia became a more capable country not only in economics but also in military might. Now, Kato had improved the military might of Somalia but was now focusing on any possible threats of invasion to the country. It was deemed that it was only a matter of time before Somalia was invaded and both Abrafo and Kato continued to improve the country in economics and military. Regardless if the world considered their methods legal or illegal.

At that moment, the 10th fleet had arrived at the island, consisting of 1 carrier, 3 Landing Platdorm docks, and 5 destroyers. Turmenistan marine and army forces on the island took off for the LPDs in their Canary-Class helicopters.

Jets on the ground were to link up and preform bombing raids on Moghidashu until the fleet arrives.

IC: Airman Huang Milner flew up by the bomber squadron. The supposed operation that he had heard about was true. He was part of the early bombers to destroy defensive positions in Mogadishu before the fleet arrived to deploy more troops. He had read about America's failed invasion of Somalia before. Turmenista was not about to fail again.

There was static on his Long-Range radio. "Coming up on Mogadishu, gain altitude and prepare to drop payload." A bomber by him said. He flipped the switch, opening up the JDAM Bomb bay on his Assault bombed.

The bombers had gained altitude and were nearing Moghidashu now.

The capital was alive with merchants and trade as the public went about their daily lives unknown to the troubles that were about to approach them. There were very little in the terms of a military presence in the city that moment since the Hammer brothers had recently left the city and were attending in farmlands and Kato was at a disclosed location towards the border with Ethiopia overlooking a transaction for weapons. Abrafo on the other hand had taken up a news crew that was interested in seeing the improvements of Somalia agriculture. It’s being recent news that Somalia agriculture had improved greatly since the drought ended two years ago and Abrafo was keen to show the world that Somalia was now moving on in life.

“As you can see for yourselves, this farmland was once a drought stricken land just like much of the country,” Abrafo started to the news crew. “Now, it’s a land of plenty and soon, a land of much to be shared with the world,” The farmland behind him was golden with wheat, cattle and sheep wandered the farmlands looking for food and shelter from the heat and the workers were busy with the start of the harvest. “First, the land will be healed and then our land of plenty will be shared with the world,”

“It’s great to see that Somalia has improved itself from what was once a haven for piracy and enslavement,” the reporter stated as Abrafo saw the chance to make a name.

“Ah…we are shackling off the old methods that have given our country a bad name,” Abrafo started. “We want to turn over a new leaf this year…” Abrafo could tell there was something else the reporter was looking at behind him. When he turned around, he saw pillars of thick black smoke and what could be heard as an air raid siren blaring.

“What are those pillars of smoke?” the reporter quizzed him.

“We do not have the means of new technology and have kept the idea of burning tyres to warn of an impending invasion,” Abrafo explained to the reporter. “There’s strict orders not to use them unless we were invaded. I was hoping we would never have to use them again,”

“Sir, sir,” a soldier part of his guard detail came rushing over to him. “Enemy bombers have crossed over from International Airspace and into ours without permission. They are heading straight towards the capital,”

“You see,” Abrafo was now in a rage. “We want to get on our feet and now…” he huffed in frustration “Now, now we see the Imperials coming to rape our country since we improved it. It only proves, that they don’t want us to rise from poverty and they want our graves to be poverty. We must see to the safety of the public,” With that, Abrafo was going to head to a safe zone to coordinate the relief effort of the city. He only hope Kato’s new contact would help re-arm them now.

In the capital, there was only one true military target which was the naval base that contained three PT-Boats, Armadale Class, and numerous smaller support boats that they used to use for boarding. It was close to the fishing port that was the second main source of income for the city, after agriculture and ahead of merchants. The second military target was the police headquarters located in a highly urbanised area that was also used for radar station. For the entire country, not to mention a handful of others spread out across the country. The militia groups that were responsible for the protection of the city had gone underground the moment the air raid sirens blared across the city shortly later the tyres were put on fire to alert the rest of the country. Not far from the coast, there was a fishing fleet that first noticed the aircraft and deployed a flare by burning a spare boat to warn the coast. It wasn’t uncommon for the fishing fleets to have an extra boat to warn the coast in the event of an invasion. The city was alive as the population went to find shelter.

"Boucher!", a informer walks into the High Commanders room.
He again raises his sight from his newspaper, and asks; "What is it this time?"
"Mogadishu has been under bombing, we've received info from Somalia.", the informer shortens the paper.
"I think Turmenista is going to invade soon, what shall we do?"
High Commander types something on his computer and prints it out.
"We're going to attack. Not to help the war, but to peacekeep and make sure Turmenista won't do anything to Somalia. They got on their feet, we won't let them down again already."
He hands the printout to the informer and tells him to go send it to the military and prepare an invasion force.

The Turmenistan fleet was moving quickly.
"Make sure the bombers are bombing the right places this time." Commander Lincoln Richards said, overlooking a digital map of Somalia viewed from the above. The bombers were preparing to turn around and make way back to the carrier. So far, the plan was going perfectly. He had been given specific orders by the High command back home on Xu island to weaken their forces without causing massive collateral damage or civilian deaths. This was risky. Mogadishu has a big population. It was hard to differentiate between military bases or civilians here. And after the bombing raid the Somalians could have time to prepare defences.

The bombers seemed to be turning around now. Strange, considering the run was only 30 minutes long. However, one still remained, seeming as if it had one more surprise in hand.

Akiirian military has entered 7,500 troopers into ships and given orders of peacekeeping, and if necessary, helping Somalians. The troops are equipped well and are trained in both combat & medical, so they can help the wounded citizens if needed. The peacekeeping invasion is going to be a secret, even to Somalia, told when the ships / aircraft arrives to Somalia.
Boucher sends Field Lieutenant Borovsky to the field and make sure the plans go well.
The aircraft is sent in two hours, ETA is 10 hours.

"RTB Squadron. We will not be dropping Agent Blue." Commander Lincoln said into the radio, overlooking the electronic map of Somalia and the bombers."
Almost immediately, the supersonic bombers began turning back around.

“Mamma…” the cry of children and young adults burning from the sudden explosion. The enemy forces had dropped a new weapon on the centre of the city. It wasn’t known if they had known that the centre of the city was not only busy with public traffic but also merchants were alive in the city. At the most, it had flatten at least 12 buildings that were already weaken from the attacks on the Police Station earlier. Gas pipes were burning, buildings had caught fire and the city was alive with the screaming of the innocent. People were running to and from the scene. Emergency crews were struggling to keep up with the sudden demand of not only the wounded and the dead, but the fire that was starting to strike through the city. Even though Somalia had improved itself, much of the buildings were still old fashion as funding still haven’t come through to improve the city itself. At the docks, it wasn’t any better either. Thanks to the warning system, two of the three PT-Boats and many smaller boats were able to set out to the seas far from the port with the fishing fleets in tow. The third PT-Boat sank to the bottom straight away and the naval dockyards were destroyed but also the fishing ports were badly damaged in the process. Not only had traffic being halted, but the economics of the city was smashed to pieces.

The Police Station was in ruins, 12 civilian buildings were destroyed with numerous more crippled beyond repair, the naval port was destroyed, the fishing port was badly damaged which meant the fishing fleets were diverted elsewhere, and emergency services had already suspected that thousands of civilians were already killed over the combined bombings and double more were injured. Mogadishu was partly in ruins and the military was forced into hiding while the emergency services attempted to keep the population calm. Unfortunately, mass panic had set in and the civilians had started to evacuate the city. Just after the bombings occurred, Abrafo and the news crew had slipped into the city and the news team was broadcasting the destruction and the chaos on the civilian population.

“This is Patrick Johnson of WNN,” Patrick stood in front of fleeing civilians, buildings on fire and ambulances passing them with wounded on board. Families were crying as they carried their loved ones away, the dead were piled to the side and buildings were either ablaze, in ruins or both. “We’re coming live in what used to be a thriving merchant community in the centre of Mogadishu, where an unprovoked attack by an unknown force had destroyed a large portion of the civilian population. It has being confirmed that the Police Headquarters of Mogadishu has being destroyed along with the merchant docks but it’s unclear of why the attacks occurred or how many deaths are there. Emergency services have confirmed that the death tally is going into the thousands and perhaps double of injuries. The tally is expected to rise since a major fire has broken out in the city,” Patrick explained to the people watching WNN. “There is one clear thing that has occurred. President Abrafo has confirmed that the buildings that were destroyed when the bomb that released a blue coloured cloud, were being used to keep civilians off the street while stable shelter was being constructed. We’ll bring you more as the situation develops. This is Patrick Johnson of WNN signing out,” What wasn’t mentioned that city was expecting an invasion force to arrive and the militia was preparing for a dug in assault. Kato had already called a Red Alert across Somalia with people answering the call of an impending attack.

The troops have arrived in Somalian airspace and troops are dropped from the planes to the ground. Somalians are informed that this is not an invasion, but to peace keep, and if a bigger invasion DOES happen, they will aid Somalians as much as possible.
Lt Borovsky has given his 2nd Sergeants the orders what to do with their troops and where to go. (2nd Sergeants are sergeants but a bit higher rank on the field, usually serving under Lieutenants in the Akiirian military).

Somalian civilians ran out of the smoke unscathed, but the soldiers ran out, clothes burnt and blistered. Superheated shrapnel fragments rained down, burning a hole in a nearby jeep.
