European War IC

Postby Westerheim » Fri Apr 18, 2014 8:13 am

Political tensions in Europe are high. A naval arms race between Britain and Germany is ongoing; Russia is looking to her historic lands in Finland; and Austria-Hungary is eyeing its eastern neighbour Romania. A network of alliances is slowly being established across the continent, which can only be a precursor to war. It just remains to be seen when the spark that lights the fire will come...

The Democratic King Leonidas the second paces his strong hold in the Newly reconstructed city of Sparta. "Tensions are High, and we are small our only hope is to get allies in the Region" "Sir" said one of the Royal Advisers "what of the election in 3 weeks if you start a war now you will surly lose". "fool" Shouted the old King "i have been elected for 27 years, i know the pressures, I am trying to save the Country," after a pause to let the Adviser absorb it all "send words of Alliance to Austria Hungary, Russia, Portugal, Spain, The Netherlands, Sweden and her Empire and Britain" "sir why so many?" asked the lazy Adviser. "because" shouted the King "if all of those alliances come through not Italy or The Ottomens would Dare invade us"

Amsterdam
1936

Thousands of people are outside on the streets, walking in a massive line stretching a few streets.
on a parallel street another group of people, looking separated from the first group.
They both protested one against the other, one for peace and neutrality, the other for war.

The last war made the people go crazy, some with thoughts of eternal peace others with world domination.
As the countries of the world once against begin to separate into 2 factions. the Netherlands haven't decided which faction
will it take, and the people are angry.
Everyone knew the great war would come back...
It had a smell in the European air.

The Netherlands is filled with either protests or strikes with big economical problems as a result and the government must take action
before the country collapses.

Suddenly, the shouts of the protester stop at the city centre, a massive stage was set, as both sides looked at each other with anger from one side of the street to the other. The Prime Minister himself joined by the king walked up to the stage, and started their speech:

"Quite! Quite! There's no need for violence, We request you to stop those protest and strikes as the Dutch government is going to
take action. there's no need to destroy your own country!

Now...The dutch government on behalf the dutch people have decided... "

complete silence sweeps the thousands of citizens awaiting an answer.
Minutes passed with no sound at all...

"We've decided that the Netherlands should not take part in any faction or war."

Thousands of citizens try to storm the stage and the police can barley block them.
The prime minister and the king run to their safety. and the two protest groups start violent hits between them.
The city is in madness as everyone either run for their lives or fight to the death.

30 hours of constant bloodshed on the streets of Amsterdam until there was no one left to kill.
hundreds died and even more were heavily injured, but for now...there's peace on the red streets.

The House of Commons was packed today as the Prime Minister announced a military alliance and mutual defence pact with Britain's cross-channel neighbours, France.
"In these dark times of tyranny and oppression, we as a nation must ensure and safeguard our national security, as well as Europe's. The recent violence in the Netherlands is a good a example as any as to why we need allies. The days ahead are dark, but Britain shall prevail."

Meanwhile, the Foreign Office has announced the formal offer of alliance with Denmark-Norway and the Swedish Empire. In a statement, a Foreign Office spokesperson said this was for "reasons of security".

Additionally, 29 MPs signed a letter in the Times today, protesting against any intervention on the continent and any involvement of Britain in mainland European affairs.

Bern Switzerland- 1937

Today the usually Pacifist nation that is Switzerland was rocked for the first time since 1800 with a threat of war. The people went in great numbers to Bern to hear Kaiser Otto von Hapsburg make a speech to the general assembly. At noon, he started his speech.

Peaceful people of Switzerland, we stand in a time of great trouble on the great and glorious continent that is Europe. Tension is rising amongst the great powers. So far, to protect our beloved homeland, I have ordered the training of 50,000 more troops to protect our sovereign territory. We have entered our Nation it to an alliance with Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Romania to protect our interests in trade. But I have not guaranteed our troop will leave the country, as it say in the Congress of Vienna that we are a neutral Nation. I would hate to do such a reckless act unless the people of Switzerland allot me this power. Therefore, there will be a vote. All citizens over the age of 18 may vote on weather no not to end our ancient isolation and enter the incoming fray, or seclude ourselves.
I hope that which ever way that the vote goes, the decision will be the right one for are great people.

The Ministry of Defence today announced a new type of battleship, the King George-class, larger and more powerful than any battleship previously seen on the seas. Its firepower is thought to be around three times stronger than Britain's current seafaring fleet.
Newspapers are speculating whether this is a direct challenge to Germany, who last week announced increased shipbuilding in her dockyards.

The Russian Empire has recently declared the Dovgan class of Aircraft Carrier ready for high seas trials. Prototypes have been built and will be tested around the nation. No further details have been declared.

The Zvenigorod Flying School and the Elektrostal Armed Forces Institution (Army) near Moscow has been innundated with candidates as work in more leisurely pursuits are starting to dry up. This is leading more citizens to considering joining the armed forces or the growing industrial complex.

Esteemed King Leonidas,

We have received your offer of alliance and we have put it forward to our government. We ask what you have to offer an alliance?

We wish to reply to your question on our capabilities. We can provide a key point in the Aegean sea
which will allow our two nations to easily concur the Ottomen Empire and give us control of all eastern Mediterranean trade, other than that who wouldn't want support in their area i can deploy into Romania, Austria Hungary, and the Ottomens unfortuantly i can not help you with the Northern nations for they are too far away and as our first treaty you will be the last to be cut loose if alliance inter tangle

The French military unveiled a new tank to serve in the French Army. The SAUM 40 Assault Tank will serve in the French Army alongside the A35 Medium Tank and the Char B1 Heavy with plannings to replace the B1 Heavy with a more hardhitting tank coming soon. "Our military is in serious need of reform, we can't stick with our old weapons," French Army Commander Charles de Gaulle states during a recent military conference.

In other news, the French government announced that they formed an alliance with Great Britain in case Europe is going to be at another war. France and Great Britain enjoyed some level of being allies at some point of histories such as Crimea and France needs strong allies that can match Germany's war machine and Russia's large army.

Stockholm,Sweden,May 21,1936
Gustaf V sat up in his chair in his office in Sweden, and pulled out a revolver. His Prime Minister comes rushing in.
"King Gustaf, you may want to know this.Sparta is urging an alliance with us.That, and tensions are rising in Southern Europe. There are rumours of a possible alliance between Italy and the Turks."
Gustaf puts the revolver in his jacket. He leans close, and then says excitedly,
"Sparta has their alliance.Britain,France, and Austria-Hungary will also be a valuable source of a military pact. Now leave.I must write some letters."
Gustaf quickly gets his typewriter, and begins to type a persuasive letter.

To:King Leonidas of Sparta
From:King Gustaf V of Sweden
Hello, great King Leonidas! We here in Sweden would like to have an alliance with your nation. The rising threat of the Ottomans and Italy shall crumble under our huge might.Let the Pagans burn!

To:King of Britain
From:King Gustaf V of Sweden
Hello, great King of England.I ask you for just one thing: an alliance. The rising powers of Italy and the Turks shall not go unnoticed, and perhaps should be defeated. What do you think would be the necessary precautions? A crusade in the 20th Century, perhaps?

To:President of France
From:King Gustaf V of Sweden
Hello, esteemed President of France.I come to you with the question of an alliance.Should Turkey and Italy be crushed,or should we let them live.Maybe,a military offensive in the Balkans and Lombardia will scare them straight?

"Mr. President, we have a message from Sweden," an aide to French President Albert Lebron said.

"Get me the Prime Minister, we must discuss this," The President said, sending the aide off. After a few minutes, Prime MInister Paul Reynaud arrived and the two men begin to discuss the telegram.

"I believe declaring war is a bit too rash considering that we're not even at war yet," Reynaud said. Lebron nodded.

"You're right and the people want peace, we should tell the Swedes to not invade a country unless directly threatened upon. I'm not sure how the Swedish King is being foolish, he might bring us into war and trying to attack a large enemy is definately one of the stupidest idea ever," Lebron said. Reynaud begins to write a telegram to the Swedish King

To: King Gustav V of Sweden
From: Prime Minister Paul Reynaud of the French Third Republic; President Albert Lebron of the French Third Republic

Message: Are you trying to start a war? You do realize that we have been at peace for quite a while and we do not need another war to engulf Europe. That said, we reject this aggressive rhetoric.

An embarrassing defeat in the Great War and a series of young and incompetent sultans culminated in the 1923 revolution which overthrew the sultanate, secularized the state, and instilled a parliamentarian style of democracy. The military, quickly growing tired of their second tier status, overthrew the government in 1925, with Grand Marshall Hasim Reyjvek at the helm. The Grand Marshall immediately set out several 5 year plans which aimed to nationalize and bolster industrial production and infrastructure. Overall, over the past 15+ years, Grand Marshall Reyjyek has found overwhelming favor amongst his people, increasing greatly oil and steel production, and modernizing, to an extent, most aspects of hard industry.

The army is striving to keep up with the great powers of Europe, and whilst they realize that they are no super power, the Ottomans will ensure their army is a force to be reckoned with. It has been 10 years since the army has been weaned off of foreign military purchase, and while this was initially difficult, the domestic arms production has put many people to work, and the Ottomans have embraced the ideas of standardized ammunition, the submachine gun, the tank, and the role of the base squad supporting the advancement of the machine gun, instead of vice versa. The Ottoman navy does have a powerful regional influence, and is currently in the process of constructing their first aircraft carrier, which will soon replace the large battleship SMS Similli as the flagship of the Ottoman Navy.

I assume that you have received numerous communication attempts from the Greeks, in attempt to form an alliance. This would of course be a foolish move to accept. The Greeks have little projection power, and little to offer you. The Ottoman Empire wishes to extend an agreement of non-aggression, naval coordination, and training cooperation with the Russian Empire.

To the Swedish Empire,

At present we are not concerned with starting a full-scale war nor engaging in a so-called 'Crusade'. Our offer of alliance still stands, yet on the conditional you drop all unprovoked military ambitions. We have no desire for war with the Italians or Ottomans.

The United States of America, for now, is pursuing a foreign policy of minimalist interference in European affairs. However, we wish to extend the potential for increased trade with the United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland, the Republic of France, and Germany.

The 'red scare' is still alive and well in the social fabric of American society. Many of the people wish for America to stay COMPLETELY out of Europe, but the attitude of the Department of State hasn't indicated anything other than its current pursuit of policy. Sceptics think otherwise, but after all... they're sceptics.

"Sir what do we do?" asks Henry Velda an minister of War "what if the war threatens to destroy us?" The King pondered this, then he said "through economics we will live" the Minister stared at him blankly "what??" He asked. "If we become an economic asset no one will attack us, fetch me my pen I need to write some letters" said the king. When this was done he sat down and began to write several letters to nations in Europe like Russia, Britain, France, Spain, and Portugal as well as to some other powers like The U.S. and China they all went as follows
to:(leader of respected nations)
From: the Empire of Sparta

and asked " what are we going to do? If we fail to act now all of our trade on the Adriatic sea will be wiped out. Not to mention the fact
that because of this, you will be overthrown!

I will tell you what we will do! the king shrieked, we shall make them
pay! But your majesty! cried the adviser, do you remember the last war we were in! over six hundred thousand of our own people were killed, nine hundred and fifty thousand injured, and two hundred thousand crippled for life! We can not, as civilised people allow this to happen
again! If we do, we will prove ourselves to be the pagan they say we are.
Oh, I guess you are right, sighed the king. but perhaps we should
join Switzerland in their alliance. That would be for the best.

Juan Carlos the first of Spain sat in his office thinking about
what do about Portugal. They were becoming ever more hostile in
their blockade of The strait of Gibraltar, which was strangling the economy. they still traded with Italy, but with a seemingly vengeful horde after Italy, they would most likely be targeted next. He walked over to the meeting hall where top civilian and military leaders were
meeting to discuss the tension throughout Europe. the king cleared
his throat and said, the problem must be dealt with in any way possible.
Francisco Franco, head of the Spanish Armed Forces stood up and said
"we must invade Portugal!, it is the only way that i believe will cause
them to drop their blockade! Let us not forget that one thousand years
ago, Portugal and Spain were once one nation.and I believe
that we have the god given right to unite all of the Iberian peninsula
in to one great nation."
" hold it right there, one adviser said they speak Portuguese and we speak Spanish." another adviser stood up and said " If it is true of what you say about Spain and Portugal being united at one point in
time, which I doubt, that was, as you say, one thousand years ago.
" True, said Franco, But not all of Spain speaks the same language
either."
Well, the king mused, let me think about it for a day or two and I will get back with
you then. This meeting is done.
