It's that time again, the Mokan Presidential Election: Feel free to add commentary, make campaign contributions, or contribute any way you see fit. It's politics! Play the game! Candidates will give speeches and who knows what might happen! Here are the hot bed issues so far:
MAJOR ISSUES:
MOKAN DRUG WAR:
Its been nearly a year since the Mokan Government first moved troops into Aqua Anu to combat the growing drug threat and so far over a thousand civilians have been killed by both sides of the conflict, hundreds of Military and Law Enforcement soldiers have been wounded or killed, and there are still Territories and Providences which have no formal government in power. Or worse, some have even been taken over by the Cartels and declared new nations. Last month the Battle of Bogota(Capital of the Sur Region) left nearly two hundred dead, the vast majority being civilians who could not escape the areas of conflict. After two days Federal Forces managed to gain control of the city and quell the remaining hot spots around the city.
While around the globe prices of drugs have gone up and supply has gone down due to the efforts of the Mokan government, but how much will clearing Mokastana of the Drugs cost? What steps need to be taken before we can see some ray of hope rather than martial law and war in our own streets?
INTERNATIONAL OCCUPATION:
With Mokan troops occupying Castille de Italia, the annexing of Belmotin a few years back, and Mokan Peacekeepers being deployed to Greal despite trouble at home, citizens of the Federation are beginning to question whether the People's Unified Federation should pull back to maintain a more neutral stance on international incidents. Even so recent intelligence shows that the once powerful Mokan Navy may or may not be able to ensure full victory when engaging other Military Forces in the Region. Some are worried the Federation may be falling behind its neighbors and should catch up, while others are hoping for a more diplomatic approach.
SPACE RACE:
Once again, with issues at home and overseas, the Department of Exploration of Space (DEE) has been granted massive funding and numerous projects with the Air Force to continue the Militarization of Space, with new advancements from the Commonwealth of Morrdh, the Mokan Department of Space Exploration has began looking into interstellar flights and exploring more beyond our solar system, but is it worth the cost? What can we gain from space exploration when so many things need fixing here? Many have began to wonder.
REDESIGN OF PARLIAMENT :
Which the addition of new territory, such as Belmotin, Parliament has been tasked with restructuring to give smaller Federal Regions and colonies a larger say in Mokan Politcs, since it is typically the frontier areas that have to fight during wars and often have populations that have increased to be rivals to the Region of the Islands, the most influential Region in the Federation. As such many are wondering how this shift in seating for Parliament will affect the future of the Federal Government, who for the longest time has attempted to maintain a 'distant but caring' relationship with many local governments, focusing of Education, Military, Infrastructure and Medical Care, while leaving most of the other regulation to the local governments.
CANDIDATES:
The People’s Party(ARP): Admiral Hector Franshaw: Son of the Famous Primary Admiral Alex Franshaw, Hector rose the ranks of the Navy by serving in various conflicts around the world and has decided to retire from Military life to run for Public Office, while lacking in Political expierence, many are seeing that as a sign of strength. He has a 'buck stops here' approach to issues and believes that the Federation much remain on its path to get past this dark time.
Liberal Party (OLP): Senator Jorge Basque: The liberal party has taken a lot of heat during the Presidency of Benito Vera for his seemingly lack of control of Federal Events, always reacting to the situation, such as being the last to declare war of Castille de Italia despite previous military intervention, and allowing Socialist soldiers to start the drug war, seemingly forcing his hand into beginning to combat the Cartels. Jorge is preaching that isolationism is key for now, that we should be asking for assistance from allies to combat the current domestic threats and find a solution fast.
New Conservative Party(COP): Parliamentarian Emilio Lomengo: Originally from the Sur Region, Emilio believes the Socialist are to blame for the current state of affairs, both the imperialism and domestic troubles. Believing in free market ideals and the removal of 'socialist policies', he believes the drugs wars could have been resolved much more peacefully in the beginning, but the left wing wanted to go to war. He is running on a campaign of pulling Mokan Troops back to Mokastana, and to take care of the Drug problems at home first.
Influential Political Parties
Socialist Workers Party(SWP): Senator Henry Milano:Currently one of the more famous Senators due to his speeches from the beginning of the drug wars, Henry has been the unofficial speaker for the Anti-drug movement sponsored by the Socialist factions in the Federation. He is running on the plate form of 'no more'. No More corruption, no more Cartels, it is time that Mokastana rid itself of the hostile forces that take advantage of the weak around the globe. After watching the assassination of the Speaker of the People and longtime friend Juan Dugal on the door steps of his own home, he has only gotten more resolute in his desire to fight the Cartels. He believes in more militarization and that Mokastana needs to remain an internationally involved to show that even in the Federations darkest hour, it is not to be messed with.
Iron Hearts Party(IHP): Generalissimo Leon Alvarez: Commander of the Mokan Sixth Army of the Region of Mejico. Leon believes that the People's Unified Federation needs to step up military production domestically and increase its military tradition. In short, he wishes to model the Federal government and culture after the Lyran superstate to create a Mokastana more than capable of handling both the domestic and international issues at hand. To him, military power is the power needed to respond to the threats above.
Liberators Party(LBP): ABSTAIN
