Government to Evacuate Citizens and Provide Assistance in Jungastia
Santo André: The unfolding nuclear disaster at the Alandroal Nuclear Facility is becoming one of the biggest disasters of its kind in Maredoratic history. Already, thousands of people have been evacuated from the smaller towns and villages around the plant with air force and other personnel responding to the fires that continue to burn in Reactor C. In addition, potassium iodide distribution has begun in the neighboring city of Torre, which is popular among tourists from Alisna and Wilassia.
The Royal Jungastian Air Force has completed a series of fly-over operations over the burning reactor and has reported back high readings of airborne radiation, although they refused to comment on the exact nature of the readings.
In Torre, warning sirens were heard across the city and there are reports that 32,000 people have been placed on alert for potential mandatory evacuations.
The explosions began not long after midday on February 27, after personnel monitoring the plant reported a power spike in Reactor C and an explosion to the left of it. Since then, several more explosions have occurred with fires spreading to other buildings at the complex.
No further information has been released from the Jungastian government on the affected area around the nuclear power plant, although many fear that they are already living in areas with dangerous levels of radiation.
Elsewhere, authorities in Guurdalai have issued warnings to the residents of Gadnyn Aral, one of the westernmost islands in the Carolines about the potential danger posed by radiation emitted from the plant. Social media reports surfacing from Soufia have suggested that the authorities there are also very concerned about the spread of radiation, with one photo showing personnel from the National Atomic Energy Commission (CNEA) setting up monitoring equipment on an undisclosed beach in eastern Soufia.
Foreign Minister Aline Maury said that the government had been in contact with the embassy in Santo Andre and said that they had offered the Jungastian government any assistance it required. Maury also said that the government was prepared to provide emergency charter flights to Valclusians on Santa Helena who were unable to get out by other means.
“At this stage we can only say what the possibilities are based on what we know,” she said. “But we will provide flights for Valclusians to return home if they have received evacuation orders or enough requests have been received by the embassy to make said flights necessary.” Maury stressed that all Valclusians on Santa Helena should contact the embassy in Santo Andre if they wish to return to Valcluse.
