Back-story:
The nations of Inoroth and Dalruanazkal have been mortal foes for centuries, a feud that finds it's roots in the destructive Alkurdian Raids on the Old Rothian Empire. Ever since, both states have clashed over everything from religion and ideology to societal make-up and politics to nationalism, racism, and national-boundaries -- all mere excuses for the underlying struggle, all flimsy justifications for the two powerhouses to continue the battle for dominance, pushing back and forth with neither side able to conclusively overcome the other. But of late, a strange peace has settled over the two, with peaceful leaders on both sides seeking understanding and respect over violence. Even the excitable Dalruanazkal King, His Majesty Vul-Hassimir, has managed to keep most of his aggression in check for the sake of maintaining the truce.
It is speculated that the last war, which cost both states so much and benefited neither side at all, had left a bitter taste in the mouths of both countries; but the appetite for blood and power is not quelled forever, and even the strongest memories fade with time. Now, the once vibrant and inexhaustible King Vul-Hassimir lays ill from some unknown debilitating disease, and his only (known) son and sole heir prepares to ascend to the throne, eager to prove to the world, his people, and himself that he is the leader Dalruanazkal needs. To the South, King Victor Emmanuel Vinchero prepares to celebrate his 45th birthday, but the ill monarch to the North, not much older than himself, is a matter of great concern; the last time a new ruler sat upon the Alkurdian Throne, the tension nearly thrust his beloved nation headlong into a war, and it is doubtful that he should dodge the bullet twice... the ambitions of the young Prince troubles him greatly. As well they should, for one of the nicknames of the current King of Dalruanazkal are "Hassimir the Reformer", so chosen for the reorganizing and refitting of the armed forces under his leadership. He was too cautious to actually use them, but his son?
