HNS Meyer, Hamilton class guided missile frigate of the Hippostanian Navy
Gulf of Bordländen, Longfort
06:34, October 24th 2012
It was half past six in the morning. The sun had just begun to rise over the horizon, coloring the sky into a mix of yellow, orange, red and purple. With the exception of the waves roaring against each other and the ship, and the seagulls screaming, it was strangely quiet; almost silent. The first rays of sunlight cast their rays on a lonely grey ship that was traversing the waves. This ship was the HNS Meyer, a Hamilton class guided missile frigate, a fairly old ship that was rapidly approaching the end of its operational lifetime; it was due to be scrapped in just three our four years.
Commander of the Meyer was Captain Bradley "Brad" Camden. He had just woken up and was heading down to the messdeck to have some breakfast with his men. Camden didn't like to be above his men, he wanted them to consider him a regular guy, just like he was. To achieve this, he often dined with his men instead of eating in the officers lounge. Once Camden reached the messdeck, the room was already full of soldiers queueing for their breakfast. Some soldiers were still asleep in their berthing compartments, happily sleeping and not knowing that the best pieces of eggs and bacon were already being taken by those who had woken up before them.
Camden stepped in the queue, ready to get his traditional but not-so-healthy breakfast that tasted good despite looking like.. well, something not so good. For a passing moment, Camden thought of heading upstairs to the officers' lounge to get something a little more less-artery-blocking for breakfast, but quickly forgot that thought when one of the seamen came running to him.
The sailor, no more than 20 years old, saluted and then said: "Sir, you're needed at the bridge"
"What is it?" Camden asked.
"I don't know, sir. I was just told that you must go there as soon as possible"
Camden abandoned the thought of having any breakfast and started quickly walking alongside the captain. They were walking on deserted corridors, when suddenly the sailor stopped. Camden looked at him half-curiously, half-angrily and asked "What is it?"
"Sir, I think I saw something in that room", pointing to a large metal door on the side of the corridor.
"What? Something suspicious? You're seeing things. Come on, we have to get to the bridge!" Camden dismissed him, turned around and started walking towards the bridge.
And suddenly, there was a quiet echo of a silenced pistol in the halfway, and Camden fell lifelessly to the ground with a stream of blood splurting from the back of his head.
The seaman slid the silenced pistol back into his pocket, grabbed the captain's body from the armpits and opened the door to the room that he had talked about earlier. It was an empty closet. He carefully positioned the Captain into the darkest corner of the closet, closed the door and started running to the deck. Like the corridors, the deck was empty. The seaman started walking along the lifeboats, counting them.. One, two, thee, four, five, six, seven, eight.. On the ninth speedboat, he stopped and uncovered it. It wasn't a regular, unpowered lifeboat. It looked more like a speedboat painted to look like a lifeboat. The seaman
jumped onboard the strange boat and used a winch to lower the boat. The ship was moving at nearly 20 knots an hour, so he had to be careful. Once he was just above the waves, he cut the waves and the boat dropped into the waves. The seaman started the engine and started steering away from the ship.
After about two minutes, he was already several kilometers away from the ship. He turned to take a last look at the ship. Then, the ship exploded in a enormous fireball. It was cut in half and sunk in less than 30 seconds, taking the lives of 203 sailors along with it.
Good morning from HBC Breaking News, I'm Keith Sanders.
According to reports gotten from the Department of Defense, a Hippostanian Hamilton class frigate HNS Meyer has suffered an attack on international waters near Longfort. The attack, which took place at around 6.40 this morning was apparently perpetrated by several Longfortian torpedo and missile boats, which indiscriminately fired several anti-ship cruise missiles and torpedoes at the ship. It is estimated that the entire crew may have perished in this barbaric attack, which happened without any provocation by the Hippostanian vessel. The vessel was sailing well within international waters and had taken no aggressive action against any Longfortian ships.
High Chancellor Colin Townsend is currently in a meeting with the National Defense Council, who are attempting to determine an appropriate response. Prime Minister Arthur Seacrest has released a statement condemning the unprovoked attack and vowed for vengeance against the Longfortians.
HBC News will continue to monitor the situation.
