Scriptless proposes construction of Dyson Sphere.

The room full of journalists hushed as a young, attractive blond woman, dressed in a pin-striped suit, crossed the stage to the podium, clearing her throat & shuffling her notes authoritatively. Her name was Vanessa Harper, the approachable figurehead of S.I.A.M.E.

"Welcome, and thank you all for coming on this most momentous of events." She began once the silence was complete. "As you may know, The United Socialist Systems of Scriptless are facing serious energy problems when it comes to sustaining our planetary & space-born population & attempting to construct a sufficient navy to expand & ensure the adequate defense of both new & previously-established colonies.

Thus, the Institute for Advanced Megascale Engineering has commissioned an exciting & ground-breaking project to feed our energy needs.

In the mostly barren Massus Halus system we will begin planet-wide production on a new design of machine, the details of which shall remain classified for now. These machines will be powered by the energy produced by the core of the planets they shall be produced on.
Once several planets have been completely converted to these Magascale Constructors we shall begin work on the real goal of this project.

The construction of a system-encompassing Dyson Sphere.

As some of you may already know, a Dyson Sphere is a massive shell built around a star to capture the entirety of the energy produced by said star.

However, this is not all.
Once construction of the Sphere is complete the planets within shall be completely stripped of their natural resources, the Megascale Constructors will be dismantled & the surface of these planets shall me turned into a combination of solar power collectors & core mining facilities.

This is a momentous project that will not only provide free, clean energy for all within Scriptless' space, but shall also launch the USSS up to a Type II Civilisation

Of course, all unique flora & fauna on these planets will have samples taken & will be re-populated in specially prepared conservation areas, the only major suspected casualty will be an insignificant & primitive race of barely sentient, dog-like creatures.

Many attempts to make peace with, or domesticate these creatures have been made. And all have been met with savagery, any attempt to settle on this planet have been sabotaged violently and the USSS feels that another such attempt would be an unacceptable risk of finances & lives.

This race shall be eliminated via orbital bombardment, as regretful as we are, we cannot allow such creatures to sabotage what is potentially the most important venture in Scriptless' history.

But we cannot let this unfortunate twist of fate detract from the glory that will be the heart of Scriptless' industries.

Vanessa Harper ginned broadly as she concluded, putting her notes down, the room erupting with applause & journalists yelling questions.

Such passé technology (the steampunk of space). Haven't they discovered Plasma cosmology yet? (Hint: the sun (if typical) is not a thermonuclear fusion generator; it is an electroplasma motor (as well as a step-down generator converting cosmic plasma to sunlight).) The sun is powered from outside!

Just do as we do--place collection station at the influx site (south pole if your sun rotates prograde, north pole if retrograde) and tap the plasma stream coming from the galactic center. That way, not only will you not need to deconstruct any planets, but your structure will not get wrecked when the sun periodically mitotes and spins off a daughter star or gas giant.

Not only does this take much less material and labor AND time (allowing you to create many megastructures for the price of one), but you can increase the number of collection stations as your need grows.

To distribute the collected power, I recommend against high-powered lasers. Instead, why not simply start a new plasma stream from your collection station to your receivers? (Caution: doing this wrong could result in a short circuit, rerouting the main plasma stream through your collection station, destroying it (and causing your sun to go out in the process).) If you prefer, we could offer technical assistance in building your first collection station and starting the first distribution stream. We recommend this, especially if you are unfamiliar with the technology (as your ignorance about the basic theory would seem to indicate).

Our knowledge of space is still quite limited. The only reason our technology is as it is, is because of an alien spaceship crash landed on our planet back during our industrial revolution.

The shock of discovering we weren't alone & that our interstellar neighbors traveled heavily armed meant that, once we had successfully reverse engineered the alien technology, our priorities were on expanding our military & population.

As a result, it's never really occurred to anyone to learn how space works, so we figured a solar-system encompassing solar power plant would be a pretty safe bet.

Also it's a display of grandeur & an excuse to bomb the hell out of those conniving little dogs that have kept us off that pretty little planet for so long.

We'd gladly accept you assistance in advancing our technology & knowledge, but seeing as we have already invested almost the entire wealth of the USSS into this project, we'd like to go ahead with it anyway.

Plus we figured the outer edge of the Sphere, with the plentiful resources of the entire system & the energy of all it's planets & star, would make a convenient base for mass-producing our warships.


EDIT: OOC: I am aware that in reality a Dyson Shell would be almost impossible & hopelessly impractical to maintain. How ever, seeing as this is a fictional universe I though I could get away with classing it as one of these.
