Exercise Viking Thunder [MT - Rostil - Att'n Scandinavia]

Postby Eslovakia » Fri May 18, 2012 5:39 pm

=============================================
International Waters - Arctic Ocean - Rostil

The naval commanders sat around on board the ENS Ragnarök from both the Scandinavian Maritime Self Defence Force and the Eslovakian Navy discussing the elements of the upcoming VIKING THUNDER naval exercise on the Arctic Ocean to mark the partnerships of the two states and to remain vigilant against future threats. The ENS Visby a Visby class corvette and HScMS Haakon a Skjold class patrol boat were in formation besides the elegantly streamlined ENS Ragnarök. The cold chilly winds battered the crews as the choppy waters swayed the boats every now and then. The Eslovakian naval commander strode into the office as the amphibious corps guard swayed the door shut behind him whilst the commander continued to swagger in the darkly lit room.

The figure revealed to be the highly decorated Admiral of the Fleet, Björnborg. The man famous for his trademark beard and short height enjoyed much respect from his counterparts in the other three service branches. His uniform presented various medals and ribbons with a golden rope that looped around his arm of his navy blue mess uniform.

"Good to see that we all arrived in one piece" chuckled the Admiral as he made himself comfortable amongst the other multinational high ranking officials. "How are the preparations fairing?" he bluntly asked.

"The Eslovakian Navy is prepared, all vessels have been position accordingly and the ice breaker is further north from us should problems occur." reported the Eslovakian commander

"Same for the SMSDF, the two Ula submarines have been appropriately stationed. said the SMSDF naval commander whilst he sharply rose up to read out the report.

"Good" acknowledged Admiral Björnborg as he sipped his glass of water. "Sorted the commercial shipping's?

"Yes sir, everything on the list has been ticked."

"Alright, let the first exercise begin!" commanded the Admiral as the radio officers obeyed the commands hastily

"All units, all units, exercise Viking Thunder is a go. I repeat, Viking Thunder is a go. Mission 1 initiated.

The Scandinavian's had received their orders well before, their Ula submarines were to be tested to their most extreme capabilities. Their objective: The ENS Ekaterinberg, the Eslovakian Navy's pride. The stationary submarines began to stealthy move away from the positions towards the crossing fleet to complete their first objective.

HScMS Utvær - International Waters - Rostil

"We have received our targets; mission is a go." said the commander of the long, black submarines that gleamed under the Arctic sun that reflected it's blessed rays over the smooth white ice caps that loitered around the submarine as it remained stationary in the calm waters of the sea. Unknown, undetected. Upon receiving its orders the crew filled their stations as complex commands were shouted over the bridges, mechanics swivelled and turned switches, officers clicked away at buttons commanding over their radio coms, the seaman prepared themselves for the first phase of the exercise. The submarines turbines turned slowly at first picking up speed chopping into the calm seas of the Arctic before the mighty roar initiated the main acceleration of the submarine as it sailed forward. "Initiating dive! Initiating dive!" shouted out one of the lower ranked sailors sitting at the cockpit of the submarine as he pushed for the lever of the submarine by a notch. The feel of the submarine diving down was felt by all the crewmen as their ears defend slightly traversing deeper and deeper into the unexplored depths of the ocean. The submarine that had once been visible to the world distinguished with the white polar caps had now disappeared. The commander shouted across the bridge on the radio, "På plass ved stationaerna. Nå skal vi slåss, gutter!" (Man your stations. We're going to fight, boys!). The subamrines sailor shouted back in return with multiple simultaneous "Ayes!" as they geared for their first battle.

- 3 hours later -

"Sir!" shuted one of the sailors as he looked at his screen. "We have contact! Unidentified surface vessel bearing 234 maintaining a continuous and steady course with-" the sailor abruptly stopped as he tuned his headphones and swirled the joystick around prompting screen changes. "Scrub last! Scrub last! We have multiple contacts of surface vessels. three destroyers, two frigates and 2 unconfirmed, over!" the sailor finished as he noted the all his words down on the paper beside him in case he forgot for future reference. The commander picked up his highly secretive paper that lay between his armrest and leather chair in the bridge studying the report. "That's our fleet boys! Be weary of attack submarines and DICASS Sonobuoys that could be located to trap us. Those rich bastards are throwing ASW helicopters and P-8a Poseidon at us so do your best. Locate ENS Ekaterinberg." the commander said. "Yes sir!"
