The issue is that if you want armor strong enough to counteract the threat, you've already sunk your ship. As in, literally. With all that armor.

Well, the US has the largest and most powerful and most advanced navy on the planet. We spend more money on the navy than we do the next five nations combined. We are just money spending warmongers if you ask me.

Military wise, the USA actually spends more money then the rest of the entire world combined. Seriously. The rest.

The marine battleship has been essentially obsolete for over half a century now. The Iowas were brought back for use as basically floating artillery to bombard land targets, which they do a fine job of, but they're overkill compared to what would really be needed for such a task.

Railguns may prove to be highly effective, but I don't see them being the universal weapon that displaces everything else. Guidance would seem to me to be a big challenge considering the magnetic fields in the guns won't be liked by electronics. And then there's the issue of knowing what to shoot at, which is half the battle. Relying too heavily on fixed railgun batteries would be foolish in the extreme, for your enemy will know exactly where they are from old info; if your assets are movable, the enemy is faced with the challenge of getting current intelligence to target them.

I...kind of don't have quintillions of missiles. I do yet have a few aces up my sleeve, it's which table I play them at that is the issue. Having our interdiction bypassed has really thrown the UPT for a loop.

Couple questions for Vetega:

  • Are there any of the Vexil "soft targets" that Giratina's looking for in M31? Industrial installations, or even mainly-civilian places, that are relatively speaking lightly defended.
  • Related, do the Vexil live on planets, or is it ALL just worldships?
  • Does everything of theirs selfdestruct? Since the UPT Space Force is really keen to snag some stuff for analysis. In particular, might there be debris left behind from the fighting at the Solar System?

This is true, but we are spending billions and billions on ships and other things we dont even need. As a result our experimentation with other projects like the zumwalt class and others have taken a backseat and even being so far as cancelled, even though these ships could actually give us an edge in the future. Man this government needs to wake up and smell that this world isnt the world of 20 years ago, the chinese and russians has caught up to us! They are developing stealth technology and missiles that can take out our carrier groups. We need to get an edge over our potential enemies!

Russians are allies. They are turning to democracy. The only real threat now are the Chinese, which will fall unless they give more power to the people. Look at all the arab nations.

Well, the Russians and Chinese aren't there yet, but they're getting close. I think the DoD knows that, but doesn't know how to react.

As for potential enemies, both of those nations, especially China, are smart. Especially China, as they'd never want a direct war or even a war with the USA anymore due to how interlinked the economies are. Russia is less-stable, but will give plenty of warning before any real trouble sturs up. It is their allies and the nations they are sympathetic to like Iran or North Korea that is the issue. If they get their grubby hands on that technology...

Then again, the USA has sheer numbers to deal with that. China barely has more people in the army, and China's Navy is non-existant. Their Air force is smaller then that of the USA. I think the USA would do fine swarming enemies. Both the technological, quality, and quantity guns to use. Not to mention that practically everyone in their south is armed. That can not be said for any other nation.

China is not a threat. Their government is smart, unlike some other nations they're sympathetic to. The Chinese threat can be summed up by their allies, not China itself.

As for falling unless more freedom, money talks. Until they get to the $20 000 per capita mark,or feel their economy staggering (recession), people won't complain. And by then the new generation of leaders won't have the old-timers nagging them for giving people more freedom. By nagging I mean threatening them.

On the other hand, capitalism better work correctly and industrialize the Chinese West, else a internal war in China between the haves and have nots would not be surprising.

Us mexicans are scared of the americans. We dont jump the fence cause we want their jobs, we want to join em so they wont kill us all.
Note, I'm Kansan, and this is my non-view of why they hop over the fence. Texans mow half em down though. We could just give texans military stuff and send em to iran. I dont know why we dont go to detroit and tell the gangs that the terrorists are stealing their women. Not much worse than angry black guys with guns. Then again, that would be pretty hysterical to see gangsters driving around the desert in their black SUV's.

We wont ever attack NK cause they arent a threat. We have enough anti ballistic missile ships there to actually use the anti missiles to destroy NK. Iran wont attack cause they dont want to lose money. America buys heavily from middle eastern nations for their oil. They wont shut it down unless they want to die.

If SK invades NK (unlikely), a major proxy war will occur.

If NK invades SK (more likely), then they will have mild Chinese support and so a small proxy war resulting in nothing gained or lost other then lives and money will result.

If NK uses a nuke... Even China is against that and NK will no longer exist, unified as 1 Korea of which China would try to establish relationships with.

I know of the best and most questionable solution:

Isolationism politically and militarily. Screw them, we're just going to have free trade with everyone. It would prevent American deaths...

But would go against the NATO mission and would allow a lot of people who'd otherwise be saved die.

What the US needs to do is go back into isolation again and rebuild the country, close all borders and say screw you world, except our real allies which we will still trade with.

Well... Politically and militaristically, maybe, but doing so economically would make a lot of enemies and throw everyone into a global great depression on the scale of the one that caused WWII. Actually, worse, but that's just a scale.
