A War For Peace (RP, OPEN)

Postby Crata » Thu Dec 29, 2011 12:24 pm

It is quiet in Crata City, the capital of the Federal Republic of Crata, a young but energetic nation. A quick children's laughter, the sound of cars driving to work or home, a distant chat between a customer at a store.

In the Parliament, Tracy E. King has been working the entire night. Being tired, she looks up to the clock. 8AM. Shaking her head, she gets up and walks to the coffee machine meeting Dr. Lush, an old friend of hers. He had been pushing some controversial laws recently, but she didn't mind him as much as the Anarchy Party being in the Parliament. After a quick chat she decides to go back to her desk that is still flooded with work she needed to finish.

That second, a distant yet loud noise shocks King. She hears more and more of them, seemingly getting closer and closer every time. Then it hits her. She jumps up as special agents enter the room and the explosion seems to grab her and lift her off her feet - heatwaves burning her, the light blinding her, the sound making her deaf, the shock crushing her bones. The last thing she remembers is her body getting dragged away. Then it all goes dark.

Meanwhile, Dr. Jan Meyer, the Federal President, is told to turn on the TV.
"In today's attack on Crata City an estimated 4,000 have been killed. The Chancellor Tracy E. King has been wounded. According to doctors, she might not ever be able to do politics again. Just take a look at this carnage and destruction."
The camera pans across what used to be the image of a modern, civilized Crata. Buildings are still burned, ashes are in the air. In the distance one can see paramedics. The reporter is trying to talk to a victim. It's difficult to understand him, but it becomes clear that he has lost his entire family in the attack.

The door opens. "Sir, it does not look pretty and I know you're suffering. However, we really want you to look at what we found." The nation's minister Dr. Gray sadly shows a slightly burned poster reading "This Is Just The Beginning - Aazeronia Will Rule You". "Sir, I recommend we declare war. You know me as a peaceful person, but the time has come. We have to save our people." Meyer walks in circles for a while before he declares: "We will not declare war. Not yet. Get the troops ready, I want them ready any time. But as long as we have not recieved a formal decleration of war, anyone could have written this." "But good Sir, you are risiking Crataan lifes!" "Sometimes a President has to make unpopular decisions. I'm sure Mrs. King would have done the same." Gray goes quiet for a minute, then responds: "Yes Sir, she would have. God bless her. I will deliver your orders. I hope you are right." "So do I, Robert. So do I."

Postby Aazeronia » Thu Dec 29, 2011 3:40 pm

It is a cold and rainy morning at the royal estate just outside the capital of Aazeron. As the king sits waiting for his family to join him for breakfast, an aid comes in with a very troubled expression upon her face.

King: "Christy, you know I do not like to be disturbed with affairs of state before breakfast."
Aid: "My king, I believe this is worthy of your full attention." She shows him the headline to the Aazeron Journal which reads...'4000 dead in terrorist attack on Crata, Aazeronia blamed!' "This has most of our citizens on edge sir."
King: "What is this slander?!?" "We are allies and supporters of Crata. It is insane for them to believe that there is any merit to the accusations against us."
Aid: "What are we going to do about this?" "Shall we mobilize the military? I am sure Crata has already begun the process of mobilization..."
King: "No. The last thing we need is full scale open war between friends." "Send word to the Chancellor have him release an official press statement stating that we will help Crata in their time of need and even help them with the investigation into this attack."
Aid: "My king are you sure? Surely you must feel that..."
King: "Yes, I am sure."
Aid: "Very well my king. Long live Aazeronia!"
King: "Long live Aazeronia."

Later that day, Chancellor Urias Gregariin appeared before the People's House assembly and on national television. Under suggestion by the high king, the chancellor was to give a short statement on the Crata incident:
"I was appalled when I read this mornings headline, not for the false accusations against my country, but rather the tragic loss of life that occurred in Crata. We in Aazeronia will not stand for this kind of treachery. We pledge to send whatever humanitarian aid to Crata that they require and will help their authorities investigate this heinous attack upon their serene nation. Let it not be said that Aazeronia neglected, nor betrayed, our allies. We hope to see the bridge repaired between Crata and Aazeronia."

The people of Aazeronia are not so convinced however. Following this release there are many who are pushing for full scale mobilization of the military and open war with Crata. As one citizen, who will remain anonymous, put it "We will teach those upstarts whose boss and that no one slanders Aazeronia, greatest nation in the world!"

Crata has yet to make a formal response to these statements both official and non-official...

Los Marineros, Flavionia
It was a cold day. Snow was beginning to stiffen up, car owners were attaching snow plows to their front bumpers and sailors were preparing their ice breakers. The sound of children laughing and shrieking as they walked to school could be heard. For one who isn't familiar with Flavionia, Los Marineros is the largest port city. As the men were preparing the icebreakers for the larger freighters they heard a loud crash. The massive docks began to collapse. Sailors who weren't on board their ships plunged into the freezing water. But from the onlooker's view it didn't look that bad. A crowd of spectators came as well as  several paramedics. This was when the real carnage began. The cars parked along the sidewalk suddenly exploded. The buildings collapsed as the spectators and paramedics screamed. Some that we're closer to the edge jumped into the freezing water. Many died from hypothermia or simply drowned. But the ones closer to the buildings were crushed in debris. Anyone within the blast range although seemingly unscathed suffered from in body wounds. Many died from burns but some were able to survive.

Cuadrado Imperial, Falmensia, Flavionia
As the Flavionian People's Council learned of the attack, they were torn in what to do.
"WE NEED TO DESTROY THEM! DO WHATEVER IT TAKES BUR DESTROY THEM SO THEY NEVER MESS WITH FLAVIONIA AGAIN!" Shouted Conservative Party Leader, Abram Rivera.
"No comrade, we shouldn't. We don't know why they're attacking us so we should first ask them nicely why. If we don't understand them, there is simply no way we can fight them."
"Both of you are wrong! We should sell them weapons but make them use them against foreign powers like that pain in the neck Russar!"  Said Cesar Fernandez who was the leader of the Flavionian Libertarian Federalist party. Lastly Julio Rodriguez, who leader of the Democratic Confederates stood up,
"Who are we to say they aren't angry Flavionian Anarchists? At this point we need LESS government not more. I say we allow a general break up of power and see what they do then."  The other three party leaders looked at him wide eyed at his insane idea. They all simultaneously shook their heads.

The Crataan Federal President woke up to a neverending chant of protesters. He was used to the usual 10, maybe 20 anti-government protesters that would shout about unfair conditions because they got fired or lost their car keys. Sometimes the Anarchy Party would show up. But the voices sounded louder and clearer than ever before - and very, very angry. The nation's Minister of Interior Affairs slammed the door open, having a helpless look on her face. The telephone was ringing the entire time. The President pushed the curtains to the side and could not believe his own eyes: Thousands, maybe even tens of thousands of people were blocking the Parliament. A sea of people with signs reading "Death to Killers", "Justice Is Vengeance" and "Down With Aazeronia" swimming on them was able to be seen.

The Minister of Foreign and International Relations, Dr. Robert Gray, joined the lonely party of two, slamming newspapers on the table.
"4,000 brutally murdered by Aazeronia". The next one was slammed down. "False Friends Will Not Prevail". "Aazeronia's attack on peace". Only the Libertas Report, a newspaper popular in the city of Libertas and of pacifist nature, titled "Attack on Crata City without clear cause". An author of the newspaper wrote in a comment: "We are entering a war for peace. This is Crata's time to shine or not to. We need to get together, not fall apart. No war with Aazeronia unless the situation has been cleared up."
"This is the only one reporting the truth" said Dr. Gray. "However, I don't think a lot of people will read it well enough. They are very angry as you can see." The crowd kept chanting "The Whole World Is Watching". A distant cry can be heard.

The President went quiet for a second, then said: "I want our military to be ready. I said that. We will not engage in a war, those are your orders. Everyone who does not accept these orders will not fight for Crata but for himself. I'll have Dr. Gray set up a written apology for the trouble we caused. We need to work together on this; yes, they may have attack us. But who knows?"
".... I will do that" said Dr. Gray, appearing to be disappointed but willing to follow orders. "I trust you." "Thank you, Robert."
"Next, I want all Crataans of Aazeronian decent to have the option to leave the country. Noone will be forced to do so, but if I take a look at the public, I am concerned about their lifes. Minister, inform the head of our evacuation center. Also, inform the head of our police forces to work together with Aazeronian police forces. And again - this is an order." "Yes, Sir. I will do that right now."
"... And now to the difficult part."

The public booed as the President went out on the balcony.
"Dear friends" said he, being interrupted by a "out of office, now!".
"Dear friends, Crata's capital Crata City was attacked yesterday. I feel with you today. Many of you have lost a brother, sister, parent, co-worker or a really good friend. I could have lost a person that is very special to me - your Chancellor Mrs. King. She is in the hospital struggling for her life - and peace."
The crowd went quiet. Some started to cry. Chancellor King was a well-loved chancellor, always having stood up for the middle and lower class, civil rights and political freedom even in hard times. The President took office in times of economic depression and political apathy, gaining only little respect.

Chancellor King was watching the speech on the Crataan News Network CRANN in the hospital. When she woke up, she was confronted with the threat of a war between Crata and Aazeronia; and she could not understand. Bodyguards were at her sides, but they did not know that Mrs King was awake and she did not want them to know. She hoped - she knew - that the President was going to make the right decision. She had worked with him for the major part of her life. The image faded before her eyes before she sunk back into a deep sleep.

Dr. Gray set up a quick formal note to the President of Aazeronia and all ministries.
TO: THE GOVERNMENT OF THE CONSTITUTIONAL MONARCHY OF AAZERONIA

Honourable nation of Aazeronia,

by now you have probably heard of what happened in our capital Crata City. 4,000 people were killed, estimates are going into the tens of thousands. Thousands are still missed. We don't have to say that this is a tradegy for our nation. Within the destroyed city, our authorities were able to retrieve a poster reading "This Is Just The Beginning - Aazeronia Will Rule You". A copy will be sent with this letter.
Let it be clear that our Government, namely our Federal President, has refused to mobilize our troops and to start a war. We have always been peaceful people and we will remain so. However, our troops are ready for an invasion of our nation. If your nation decides that war is the only option, we have to inform the UEF of your misdoings. Up to this point, we do not condemn you since we do not have evidence. But we are carefully watching you.

In case you are not responsible for this attack, we would like you sign the following contract, in place until both of our nations agree that the situation is over:
1. Both Crata and Aazeronia withdraw troops from the borders. There will be a non-military-zone until the situation is over. Both nations are allowed to keep scanning this region for enemy activity with non-armed equipment. The zone shall be 25km into borders, resulting in a non-military-zone of 50km all along borders.;
2. Planes that hold military equipment are not allowed to fly over the other nation's territory;
3. The two nations guarantee citizens of their nations with roots of the other nation (e.g. Crataan-Aazeronians) and tourists as well as their family members and related members of society safety and well-being as well as an opportunity to leave the country if requested;
4. Crata and Aazeronia combine their police forces to solve the attack on Crata City. Both nations remain control over their police force and how they use it in their own nations;
5. Both nations agree to general involvement of the International Union for Equality and Freedom (UEF) in the conflict if military interventions arrive at any point, including armed minorities;
6. Both nations are open to peace negotiations and protect embassy personell as well as the Presidents and Heads of State / Government with extreme caution;
7. This contract does not apply to any foreign relations, including wars and war-like scenarios, other than those between Crata and Aazeronia.

Sincerely,
The Federal Republic of Crata, Governmental Branch

It cool, calm day in the capital of Aazeron. While many Aazeronians continue about their daily routines the politicians are hard at work in the People's House debating, arguing, and deciding what position Aazeronian will take on the Crataan Incident.

"This is an outrage!" shouted the party leader of the ACP(Aazeronian Conservative Party) Karl Heiger. "We are the victims here! It is our good name being slandered!" Heiger was then interrupted by Donovan Guyar head of the ASPP(Aazeronian Socialist and Philosophical Party), "We're the victims!?! What about all those innocent Crataans who died in the terrorist attack?" Guyar gestures to Chancellor Gregariin, who stands at the main podium looking on at the cabal of politicians, "Now is the time that we prove our worth as allies to Crata and send them humanitarian aid. I also suggest that we send our top investigators to investigate, and accept the terms of their treaty." Gregariin raises his hand to calm the crowd, all falls silent as he speaks, "I agree...we will send what aid we can to Crata and accept the terms of their treaty, an official statement will go out to the Crataan government. I am not willing to risk open war, none of us should be." He is met with a mixture of applause and boos as he steps down from the podium.

From the Offices of the Chancellory:

To: Dr. Robert Gray, Minister of Foreign and International Relations, Crataan Government

We, the government of Aazeronia, do hereby accept to all terms and conditions of the treaty. We will not mobilize our troops for war and promise to protect all citizens within Aazeronia of Crataan descent or nationality. We also agree to send some of our top investigators to coordinate with your investigation into this heinous attack. Also as a show of good faith, we would like to send a detachment of the AHC(Aazeronian Humanitarian Corp). This corp is made up of doctors as well as other workers who can help with this incidence. Further, we agree to send a sum in the amount of 100.000.000..00Çr for any cost your government deems necessary. We hope that we can repair the damage that has been done. If you would like anything more please do not hesitate to inquire.

Signed,
Urias Gregariin, Chancellor of the People's House of Aazeronia

Meanwhile at the Royal Airport of Aazeron..."Sir, I really must protest to this. Crata is in enough turmoil as it is without you having to go there and possible be killed." The king looked at his aid, "I know you protest, but I must go. The Crataans are our biggest allies and I will not loose them because of a misunderstanding. I will go and repair what damage I can by meeting with the leader of Crata. Wish me luck." With that final word, the high king of Aazeronia smiled at his aid and boarded his private plane bound for the capital of Crata. The aid waved at the ascending airplane, "Good luck my king."

The Crataan President was surprised but very pleased about the letter he recieved from Aazeronian Chancellor Urias Gregariin. He decided to bring it with him into Parliament where Neo-Conservatives were trying to gain supporters.
The Conservative Party had been gaining a lot of public support recently, mainly because of the Aazeronia "issue". The Liberty Party had been suffering and losing a lot of votes; a couple of weeks ago because they opposed the Enduring Peace Act, an act that would weaken the military, now because they opposed going to war with Aazeronia. The public thought of the Liberty Party to change their minds too often; little did they know what actually happened as the press kept spreading fear and hatred. There even had been burnings of the Libertas Report because of their different point of view: The newspaper had been very neutral and careful about blaming Aazeronia.

"Happy new year, Mr. President. Are you enjoying 2012 with your nation under attack?"
"Kind Sir, your polemic words may get you supporters in the public, but you keep forgetting that this is about facts."
"How many facts do you need?"
"If you have a good one, one that shows beyond all doubt that Aazeronia is behind this attack, feel free to tell me."
Dr. Meier turned around as Dr. Gray touched his shoulder.
"Dr. Gray."
"Mr. President. Aazeronia has answered our telegram. They have agreed not to mobilize troops and would send us 100.000.000.000Çr. Also, both the King and the Aazeronian Humanitarian Corp would like to enter Crata. I have heard that the King will arrive tomorrow."
"I realized, but thank you. I am willing to accept this offer. And I will personally get to the airport. Did he say where he will land?"
"Yes, Sir. Crata International."
"I will be there. Anything regarding Mrs. King?"
"No, Sir. We aren't sure she's alive even. The authorities can't find her body, but with all the destruction..."
"I see. Keep me posted on this."

While the Parliament was debating, mainly being split into a party of Conservatives and Anarchists (what an odd construction) on the one side and Liberty, Green and Progressive Party on the other - it was a heated debate regarding nothing less than war or peace - Mrs. King dared to open her eyes a second time, getting caught doing so. "Ah, Mrs. King" said one of the men dressed in black. "It was about time. Did you sleep well? Get her something to drink! And eat! ... Yes, now! ... You'll love it here. We're sorry to say, but you'll have to stay for a while." Mrs. King felt uncomfortable. "What happened?" she asked. "Only the best. We apologize for injuring you, but there was no other choice." "No other choice... choice... none..." As she realized where she was - a rather old building with only the bare minimum of medical equipment - and who she was with, she fainted again.

Later that day, the Parliament decided to appoint a Minister of Relations with Aazeronia, a job that many would gladly take in a normal situation but not now. Elisa G. Reilly stepped up and managed to convince the Parliament.
She was tasked with responding to the telegram recieved.

TO: THE GOVERNMENT OF THE CONSTITUTIONAL MONARCHY OF AAZERONIA

Honourable nation of Aazeronia,

my name is Elisa G. Reilly. I have been appointed by the Crataan Parliament to strenghen ties with your glourious nation. Everything I say will be checked by Dr. Gray, our nation's Minister of Foreign Relations.

In the name of our Government, we gladly accept your offer and would like to thank you for your kindness. The AHC will be required to work under local law and we will be protected by it.
Our President Dr. Meier has agreed to meet your King personally at Crataan International Airport (CrIA). We would also like you to know that our Chancellor Mrs. King is disappeared; should you, by any chance, find her, please let us know immediately.

Sincerely,
Elisa G. Reilly, Minister of Relations with Aazeronia, Department of Foreign and International Relations of Crata

The high king of Aazeronia's plane begins its final approach to the Crata airport. As High King Alexander looks out over the city, he notices several vigils, not much different looking from alters, set up all around the city and airport dedicated to the slain from the terrorist attack.

"My king, we are beginning our final approach."
"Good, I am eager to land. I have been nervous about meeting with the president and the Crataan citizenry."
"I am sure you will just fine sir."
"One can only hope...the last thing Aazeronia needs at the moment is a war."

The plane continued to descend until it finally touched down on the runway. The plane then taxied over to the side near where there was a spot reserved for the plane to park. The door comes down on the plane and High King Alexander, wearing just a casual black suit but somehow still maintaining his regal air, proceeds down to where a small group of Crataan government officials are waiting to greet him, Mrs. Reilly is among them.

"Mrs. Reilly, it is a pleasure to be in your country. I would very much like to be taken to the Aazeronian embassy, I am sure we will have much to discuss on the way."
....................................................................................................................................................

Meanwhile back in the People's House of Aazeronia...

"I still think we should mobilize the troops. At least just a small portion just to make those Crataans know that we mean business."
"No, the High King has strictly forbidden the mobilization of any troops. The would only further hurt our already damaged reputation."
"Excuse me, senator, but when did we stop being a representative government? We all know the High King does not have any real power. And for our reputation, have you not heard that Chancellor King has went missing in Crata? Who do you think the Crataans will blame? US! I say we prepare for war!" At this point Chancellor Gregariin stood up to interject in the argument. "Senator Heither and Senator Jürjyn, please, we do not need a war with Crata and we certainly do not need a war amongst ourselves. Now is the time when we should be united, both as a nation and with our allies and friends. Our negotiations will not fail." Senator Heither stood up, a quite disgruntled look upon his face, "I could not disagree more chancellor. One way or another Aazeronia will triumph, with or without your approval." With that final phrase, the senator left his podium and stormed out of the chamber.

"Senator Threatens Stability of Crata and Aazeronia Peace Talks"

AAZERON - Today in the capital, Senator Heither, 56, got into a lively debate over the peace talks between Crata and Aazeronia. The debate ended when the senator stormed out of the chamber. Senator Heither has since raised a private army dubbed by him "The Aazeronian People's Front" to mobilize against Crata. The small volunteer army is privately funded by the senator and the senator has made it clear that the army is NOT connected to the Aazeronian government.

The news of the founding of an Aazeronian People's Front came fast. The press was already pressuring their editors to get the articles out for the next day.
Just the Libertas Report - though shocked - decided to investigate first. The investigation went slow - and the Libertas Report would go out without any answers, just including another article with more questions.

The Parliament was without a Chancellor and without a President. When the news hit, the Conservatives were - once again - trying to push Crata into war, the Liberty Party trying to block all attempts to do so.
"Our President is a pacifist without any idea of what this situation is like, and our Chancellor is dead and gone. We can't stand by and wait for more citizens to be harmed!"
"I agree. I heard Aazeronia is mobilizing troops."
"That's not true! According to Dr. Gray, the Government has promised otherwise!"
"How can we sure he's not a spy working for them? That he is trying to prepare our nation to be invaded by Aazeronia? He is the one who focussed on relations with them, after all."
"That's blasphemous. Dr. Gray is not a spy. He has been working for the Government when you could barely talk. Why should he abandon us now? He has no known ties with them."
"Money can buy everything. This 'offer' they made us - or him - doesn't help either."
"Aazeronia was - and is - trying to show sympathy. They're trying to help us, not fight us. All we have is a torn-up piece of paper and some nationalists. We have some ourselfes."
"Yes, but the Nationalist Underground is on its knees."
"And why did we do this? Because we did not want any more war. Yet you are here right now proclaiming aggressive action."
"I think we should decide right now. I'm thinking voting procedures."
The Parliament voted later that day, refusing going to war. The Conservatives pledged to take another vote after more "convincing".

Meanwhile, the President was on his way to the Aazeronian embassy. Mrs. Reilly had called him that they wanted to move there and it would be safer for him to stay out public interest for a while. "How sad." "I know, but it's the best choice for now. Trust me." "I do. See you then. Take care of the King." "I will. Thanks, Mr. President."

Mrs. Reilly had been awaiting HRH High King Alexander VII Stihle of Aazeronia and she smiled while nervously shifting her weight from feet to feet. "Welcome to Crata, my Excellency" she managed to say. "And yes, we do indeed. Our Government has prepared a heavily armored SUV for us. We hope it'll be sufficent but the current situation does not allow anything less cautious." "Thank you" said the King, following the crowd of Crataan officials. The Government had decided not to inform the press nor to get a red carpet as they wanted the public to know as little as possible. Still, a group of dark-suited officials managed to gather the interest of a small group of people. They immediately started shouting "Out!" while others decided to back away trying to escape both the angry crowd and the officials. "We apologize." "It's the same in our nation. And I can understand your citizens' hatred, even if they hate the wrong nation." "Yes. Follow me, the SUV is ready."
As the SUV was slowly starting to move and driving off to the Aazeronian embassy, one can hear rocks being thrown at it. "Will I be able to talk to the President?" "He is awaiting you at the embassy; I informed him." Mrs. Reilly decided to brief the King on what exactly had happened, but the King already knew all of it. He listened carefully though for he could have easily missed an important detail. He also realised Mrs. Reilly thanking him constantly.
Around noon, the SUV arrived at the Aazeronian embassy. The President was standing there, smiling at the King.
"Welcome to Crata."

The High King of Aazeronia cautiously gets out of the SUV, due to the presence of several angry Crataan citizens around the embassy complex chanting such phrases as: "Down with Aazeronia!", "Get the @#%* of Crata!", and "Aazeronia=Tyranny!". The High King was not surprised for there had been similar demonstrations back home in Aazeronia. Alexander is pleased to see the President of Crata, he the smiled shook hands and said "It is wonderful to be in your country."

"Thank you, your excellency."
The King smiled "Please Mr. President, both you and Mrs. Reilly call me simply Alexander."

They both exchanged more pleasantries then made their way into the Aazeronian Embassy. Once inside the King and the President were lead to a room, which was supposedly secure. All the aids were called out of the room for this was to be a private conversation. "Mr. President lets reach a compromise for peace." "Yes, lets." "Well as you are aware, we are having some trouble with rouge senators...I am curious has to how you plan to react?"
....................................................................................................................................................

Meanwhile back in Senator Heither's Estate...the senator is sitting enjoying some wonderful afternoon tea. He looks out the window and sees volunteers from the APF doing drill out in the field across from the estate. Suddenly an aid comes in:

"Sir, you have a video call on line 4."
"Thank you, put it through to my private terminal."
"Yes sir."

With the push of a button the call is put through to the senator. The aid leaves the senator. A black silhouette comes up on the screen and a man, or presumably a man, begins to speak through a voice hider to the senator:

"Good day senator."
"Good day C."
"I assume you are aware of the peace talks between Aazeronia and Crata?"
"Yes. I even put the militia together just like you asked and paid me for."
"Do the authorities suspect?"
"No, C, by the time the authorities have figured out that we staged the whole incidence and war breaks out, we will be on our way to a tropical island 1000s of miles away from the conflict."
"Good. Also the High King is away in Crata trying to do peace talks. Chancellor Gregariin is getting old and slowly loosing support in the government, see that he is eroded and cause as much chaos as possible."
"Then why don't we renegotiate our price?"
"We will keep the same price and you will do as your told! Or else I will make sure you go down in flames with both Aazeronia and Crata!"
"Very well..."

With that the call is disconnected.

"AazArms, Inc. Lobbies for Open War"

AAZERON - AazArms, Inc. continues to lobby for open war with Crata. Many citizens remain ever skeptical of AazArms involvement since they have a vested interest in open war. Lobbyist still continue to push however, the CEO Arthur Reikiin, a noted friend of Senator Heither, has openly expressed his support and financing of the APF. The public are still mostly unsure as to how this will shape the future of the peace talks between Crata and Aazeronia.

Smallvran Yorkek was unusually ecstatic. HE had just finished his term of service, and could goback to his simple life. 4 years of misery, 90 of happiness. All for a little bit of rewiring bombs. It had bveen his habit, even when a child, to detonate explosives to hunt cute animals. THis healthy practice was encouraged, and his skill in intimidating other children immediately got him the schools citizenship medal, which, if Smullania was not digging an immensely deep economic grave, would have given him a scholarship, and then a cushy route to a heredity title, a powerful position in the clan, and the usual Mastership. Instead, he was sent to become a military engineer, wherew he helped design and use portable explosives. Naturally, he enjoyed training, but was horrified when he was assigned a horrible position during the attack on Goldsaver. As he prepared to die, he was stopped by a notice that he was to be sent home immediately. How he had worked to get to the frame up! And nowtensions were rising, and it would just take a single spark to light the fire.(OOC:AN elaborate tag, and perhaps a plot)

OOC: Sorry it took a while, but I had to go back to school. :)

The President was speaking slowly and carefully.
"I don't think I have to brief you on this matter."
"Neither do I."
"I have managed to get the Parliament to remain calm up to this point. Our conservatives are trying to get public support and they slowly arrive and getting it. I don't mind this fact as much as the fact that they are in favor of a war. Let it be know that neither me nor the current Government will agree with this."
"As you know, we're a constitutional monarchy. I only hold the role of representing the nation. But I am confident of our Parliament doing the same."
"I'd like to thank you personally for the help you've promised. I'm sure we can find a fact that will lead to the real people posing a threat to the both of us."
"Are there any clues yet? Does the police know anything that could help us?"
"No, not really. But they've been mainly following the poster."
"Mhm."
Dr. Meier walked over to the map of Crata, took it off the wall, placed it on the table and continued talking.
"However, I think differently. The Parliament will not agree to believe that this could have been an inside job. Now I don't know if this is true, but let me explain."
"Of course, go ahead."
The President got himself a red marker and began drawing circles.
"That's where the bombs hit. Ten in total. As you can see, six bombs were detonated inside the area reserved for the Government and four in more populated urban areas. One hit the Parliament, one the Office of the Civillian Party, former known as the Social Democratic Party, one was detonated near the Office of the Progressive Party, one near the Associaton of Free Peoples and two seemingly right in the middle on Freedom Plaza. Out of these used in rural areas, one was detonated near the house of Mr. Lush, one near my old living quarters and two in highly populated areas."
"Are you thinking of a political implication here?"
"We wouldn't be talking about it otherwise."
"True."
"I don't exactly know who's behind this nor what they actually want us to do, so I can't convince Parliament of any of this. But out of the 10 bombs detonated, 8 seem to be targeted against political institutions or politicians. I don't know about the two other ones - maybe they were detonated to create some confusion."
"If that's the case, whoever did this was succesfull."
"Up to this point, yes."
"So what are we supposed to do?"
"A couple of things. One, tell the joined police forces to search this way as well. Two, sign a peace treaty. And third, talk to the public and the press directly. We may even team up for this - taking precautions of course."
Dr. Meier put a piece of paper - the peace treaty - on the table.
"Go ahead and read it carefully. The basic idea is to - more formally - not attack each other until both of our nations agree to do otherwise. Also, we'd accept international sanctions against a country in case it decides to attack the other regardless."

Mrs. Reilly decided to brief the President on the Aazeronian People's Front. She knew what the press would print, and she wanted him to be prepared. She also photocopied the Aazeron Journal. Lobbyism, she thought. Probably harmless, but good for the President to know.

The Crataan News Network CRANN decided to run a documentary-style report today, blaming Aazeronia just slightly. Still, it was enough to spur another large-scale protest.

OOC: I have several questions.
-What is this trying to accomplish?
-Storyline and background plot?
-Limitations of technology?
-Its this still open?

OOC:
- It's a RP-Thread like many other, except this isn't a war but more of an ongoing conflict between our nation and the nation of Aazeronia. It's no alliance or anything. Other nations can hop in and out. Aazeriona and Crata are kind of pushing the story.
- I understand the TLDNR, so the short version: Bombs have gone of in our capital, a poster leading to Aazeronia has been found, Aazeronia has denied having attacked Crata, both nations are struggling to maintain peace and order, the press and public go wild, Aazeronia's king visits Crata for peace talks. Also some background networks are in both nations, but the end is not cleared up yet. But please, actually take the time and read the whole thread.
- It would be great if you could stick to modern-day technology. Also keep in mind that this is no thread about actual war, it's moreso a war-like scenario. But please don't using technology able to read minds, because this would bring this plot to a quick end.
- Yes.

The King wakes up the following morning in the Crataan capital. He reaches for the remote and proceeds to turn on the TV in his room, he is at once startled by the news headline: "Senator Heither of Aazeronia found DEAD!". He proceeds to call an aid:

"Jenkins come quick!"
"Yes my King?"
"Did you see the headlines? Were you aware of what's going on?"
"Yes, I was going to inform you once you had awaken, but seems the TV beat me to it. I am sorry, sir."
"It is alright. What do we know about this incidence?
"Well from what the police can tell it was a suicide. The senator was found with a note, all it said however was 'forgive me'. Aazeronian High Intelligence, however, says there may be foul play involved and a connection to several terrorist cells both throughout Crata and Aazeronia."
"Hmmm intriguing...look more into this and keep me posted. For now though I should get ready to go and meet the President. Hopefully, He will let me speak to the parliament."

King Alexander proceeded to get ready. Once ready he proceeded to the lower level of the Aazeronian embassy, where a motorcade was waiting to escort him to the government office of Crata. King Alexander would like to inform the President of recent events regarding Heither and a possible connection to a terrorist cell, and also to address the Crataan delegates in session.

V smiled. A few more artful little squiggles, and his support for the reactionaries would not be proved. Of course, that didn't mean he intended to lie around. He hated Cratas, and was counting the seconds until he left. As a matter of fact, he was carrying an unusually large trunk to the airport.

Several people looked at the eight foot tall behemoth, but he ignored them as he stepped up to the fence and grabbed the metal surface in between his fingers. He pushed, grunting loudly as he forced it backwards. With a hideous ripping noise it parted from the post, and he stepped through. He walked to the edge of the airport.

"Fools never expect someone to destroy a fence."

He put down his trunk, and walked towards the nearest small plane, pulling out a pistol as he prepared his escape. The poster he dropped was obscured by morning fog, but the name Aazeronia could just barely be seen.

"My apologies" stated the President. "I know you've lost a great man there."
"We sure did. I can't understand what is going on."
"Neither does anyone we know I fear. Did you recieve any information?"
"My aid Jenkins told me about a possible involvement of terrorist cells in both of our nations."
"That would support my theory. Though I never thought Crata had a strong terrorist cell - or multiple cells. Do you know what cells he was talking about?"
"No."
"Hm. So let's try to sum up what happened. On our side, 10 bombs were detonated, 8 that could be aimed at political institutions. Our Chancellor might be in the hands of such a cell for all I know. And Senator Heither is dead, maybe killed by such cells as well. They're all politicians."
"I'm not sure I know what you're driving at. Do you think that this was politically motivated?"
The President moved around a little, then sat down.
"I'm afraid so. What was Senator Heither doing before he was killed - or killed himself?"
"He was trying to get support for a war against your nation."
"This is bad. Real bad."
"My apologies, Mr. President."
"I mean, it's bad enough that a Senator will try to wage war against a nation. But who knows what he was thinking. The more difficult thing is: He's a symbol of resistance now."
"Oh..."
"He got your people's support, am I right?"
"Yes..."
"They want to make it look like we attacked your nation. If they get through with this..."
"We'll have a hard time explaining it."
"You said it."
"May I talk to your Parliament? I heard some of your opposition members would kill me if I stepped in there."
"That's their job. But at the end of the day, I'm still the one in charge. They can scream all they want, you got my permission."

There is a quiet calm in the Crataan Parliament building as all the delegates are awaiting to see who the speaker was going to be today. All at once there is a loud uproar from several Crataan delegates as High King Alexander walks through the main door and towards the podium. The body guards assigned to the king look nervous as the crowd of delegates grows more intense and even shouting taunts at the king. The king nevertheless continues until finally making it to the podium and begins to speak, albeit against the noise of the crowd...

"Delegates, please I beg you hear me out. I know there as been so much destruction and I am sure a great many of you have lost a loved one in this heinous onslaught on society. Now is not the time thought for violence, vengeance, and mistrust. Now is the time for peace, compromise, and good will. Long has Aazeronia been your ally and we will continue to do so, as such we promise to give any aid necessary. I vow that the good people of Aazeronia will not rest until these perpetrators are brought to justice and reparations are made."

High King Alexander was then interrupted by one of the delegates: "Sure you talk a good talk but we have evidence that Aazeronia was planning to attack Crata via the Aazeronian People's Front. What say you about that?"

"The Aazeronian People's Front crisis has been dealt with and it was never an official sanction of the Aazeronian Government. Why would we attack Crata? It makes no sense."

The king continued to debate well into the evening.

To: President Meier
From: High King Alexander Stihle

I write this letter to you in all haste for I have come across something troubling. I recently received a letter from my intelligence services detailing the beginnings of some sort of conspiracy within both our governments to draw us into conflict. President, have you ever heard of the Nationalist Underground? Apparently they have cells all throughout our nations with members even in our governments. Our own Senator Heither was believed to have been one, which explains his untimely death. Whats strange is a group like the NU would need substantial amounts of funding for their projects, but intelligence is unable to locate the source. Has your intelligence located any new information? Please respond quickly.

Signed,
Alexander Stihle, High King of Aazeronia

PS: I am increasing the guard at the embassy as I feel that this information has made me a target. Who knows when NU agents might come knocking.

The Crataan President was carefully listening and answered questions where necessary. After a while, the Parliament seemed to be calmed down and even gave some applause when the Aazeronian King left.
That second, someone touched the President's shoulder again. And again, it was Dr. Gray.
"Dr. Gray."
"Mr. President. Have you ever heard of Smullania?"
"Anything I should know about them?"
"Apparently someone from that nation was on the airport last night. He appeared to think he was not seen but he was. We have some witnesses in case you want to talk to them yourself."
"Please don't tell me they have something to do with this."
"We don't know, but we can't rule that out for now."
"Holy. This just got a lot more complicated - again."
"Indeed."
"What was he doing there anyway?"
"He seemed to have moved something around. We found another Aazeronia poster on the ground."
"So why are you sure he's from Smullania then?"
"He's a wanted criminal in some nations. Not in ours up to this point, so we can't arrest him yet."
"Keep me posted I guess."
"I will. Thanks for your time."
"Anytime."

To: High King Alexander Stihle, Aazeronia
From: President Meier, Crata

Your excellency,
we have dealt with the Nationalist Underground before; it is known to our government. However, most members of parliament think that our NU has been destroyed. I think differently. It would make sense to put us into war as we have a bill that might get passed that would cut military spending to zero. The NU might use this situation in order to get the bill repealed. Thank you for your information, I will personally order the police forces to put their focus on an inside job.
Our police forces also found out about a possible criminal from Smullania being on our airport and placing "Aazeronia" posters. Personally, I think it's possible that he might be part of this as well. But what good would a Smullanian get from a war between our nations? Keep us posted on any new information.

Sincerely,
President of the Federal Republic of Crata
