Disaster at Muresc Nuclear Powerstation. Aide Requested

Postby Bulgislavia » Sat May 23, 2009 4:40 am

It was 11:15pm May 23rd

Workers at the Lenin Nuclear power station were on thier last shift. Due to international pressure from the IAEA and other western organizations the ageing soviet constructing nuclear powerstation was to be decomissioned and slowly be dismantled. Thankfully western organizations were already putting money into the construction of a new modern and more safe power station to help remedy Bulgislavia's already chronic energy problem. The Lenin Nuclear Power station had only 2 small reactors. Reactor 2 had already been shut down in late 2005.

The Lenin Nuclear Powerstation was constructed in 1968 by soviet engineers and technicians but they cut corners and used highly unsafe methods of construction that many western organizations were astonished Bulgislavia had not seen a chernobyl type accident. The Muresc Nuclear Power Station was the flagship of the Bulgislavian nuclear civilian energy program. Constructed in 1973 with more soviet help and still following practices the West had abandoned as they were seen as unsafe although it had 3 reactors.

To make up the shortfall the Party called for the Muresc plant to run at 100% capacity as the Lenin plan was being shut off.

"Comrade Petrescu, all systems shutting off and the Muresc Station have been given the order to increase systems to 100% capacity" said one small technician in his white uniform

"Very good Comrade Milea. Im going to miss this old girl" said the old stocky man patting a kind of minitor"

"Well its been quite a long time hasnt it" replied The young Milea

"Well Ive been in this station since 1979. It was here I got to shake hands with our late comrade President Provoce and after the decomission I am to meet with Comrade Presdient Mehmet Ceau and he will personally see my appointment at the Muresc Nuclear Facility"

"I've applied to live and work there too" said Milea slightly excited

Other nuclear technicians worked on the process of decomissioning the plant and at 12:00am May 24th the 41 yearold Powerplant was fully decomissioned

Meanwhile in the Isolated city of Muresc (which had a population of 35,000) and was the "Model" Socialist workers city and mainly housed many Muresc nuclear technicians and workers of the plant. It was ultra modern for Bulgislavia. They were spared some of the annoying power blackouts. Rations were higher. Tax's were lower and the standard of living was genuinly higher then anywhere else in the poverty stricken Bulgislavia.

Gabita and Vasily Sernscu and Vasily's mother had recently moved to Muresc.
They were an extremly young couple and would be held up by the government as the model Bulgislavian family. Vasily was 25 and had just graduated as a teacher and also a volunteer fire fighter. His young wife Gabita was 23 and was a training nurse. She was currently pregnant with thier first child it was 7 months along. Vasily's mother was 69 and she was called Marta. They were relocated on a government program to the city of Muresc from Terevesti and they were genuinly happy with thier lives and everything was happening for them.

unknowing to the town of 35 thousand souls trouble was about to happen.

Technicians had dramatically increased power to 100% capacity and to keep the reactors from over heating water levels were increased. Everything seemed to be going well. until.......

3:13am May 24th 2009

"Fuck!.... Comrade! Comrade Nishani! The water level!"

quite a burly man ran over to the monitor the middle aged man was at. The needle showing water levels was extremly high
"Quickly drop the water level!" yelled the man
The middle aged man flicked some switches but the needle remained very high

"Comrade I dont get it!?" he said

Some other needles indicating heat and temperature's began to rise

"Fuck!" Nishani looked around confused and then tapped the water level needle. The needle then dropped down to the bottom showing dangerously low levels. The reactors were over heating increasingly fast

"Fuck! Get some water back into the reactors! We have to cool them!"

"Reactor 1, temperature returning to normal........ Reactor 2 temperature stabalising.................." there was a pause

"What about the fucken 3rd reactor!" yelled Nishani

"Water isnt getting in or something!"

Alarms started ringing and red lights began flashing.

"Cut all power to Reactor 3 we have to shut it down!"

some buttons were pushed but there was a sharp rumble which lasted 3 seconds and then the sound of an explosion

The technicians began rushing around

"What the fuck just happened! You two go checkout reactor 3" instructed Nishani to some trainee technicians.

everyone in the plant immediatly began feeling a pins and needles feeling on thier faces and a metal taste in thier mouths.
"Radiation must be everywhere" said one man frightened

The two trainee technicians returned thier faces were darkened and they were breathing heavily
"Reactor 3 isnt there anymore!" yelled one

"What do you mean!?" yelled Nishani frightened

"Its completly collapsed we have to get out, get out of this building!" screamed the other

Nishani grabbed a phone and rang up the central leadership in Terevesti and reported the accident and then ran up the emergency services. Fires were on the rooftop of the Reactor building and threatening to reach reactor 2.

Vasily was called up as a volunteer firghfighter. He kissed his wife goodbye while she dozed off in bed. He assumed it would be an innocent electrical fire in the plant.

3:35am

The firemen were already fighting the blaze. They two were feeling the tingling on thier faces and metalic taste in thier mouths
Ambulances were also treating power station staff who were vomiting up and thier skin was darkening. It was the deadly symptoms of radiation sickness.

by 4:15am Party officials had arrived from the capital in Helicopter. They flew over the Muresc powerstation and could see the collapsed roof where reactor 3 should of been and fire fighters battling a couple of fires in the deadly radioactive smoke.

"Could this be another chernobyl!?" said one party member astonished

"No, no dont worry comrade everyhting will be fine" reasured another.

It was now 6:30am. Tests were done all around the plant and around the city of Muresc.

Roetegens of 1500 were recorded around the plant. (the deadly dosage is 400 Roetegens) and in the city of Muresc 1000 Roetegens were recorded.
The team of specialists also said that nearby nations will be able to notice particularly large ammounts of radiation in thier atmosphere soon and that the Party should not try to take care of this by themselves of cover it up.

The Party members were horrified. The rooftop fires were extingueshed by this stage but many firemen were beginning to feel very sick.

"We MUST call in the army to get the people out of the city" said one specialist

"And have another Pripyat!? I dont think so. This is Bulgislavia these things dont happen to us you know!" barked one stony faced party member

"Do you not understand what is going on!? We are all dead in this room. We are dying with every second we stay in this town. We are way past the deadly dosage of radiation. Even the glasses of water your drinking are poisoned, contaminated"

A look of fear and horror took hold of thier faces and one began to speak slowly

"Then..... We must evacuate the town" he said

A Government TV crew were permitted to film the incident and evacuation process for archive and Cigouriva purposes and the footage was picking up small flashes in the screen this was ofcourse a tell tail sign of radiation in the atmosphere.

The Military reached the city with thier massive trucks by 11:00am 24th May. Helicopters were flying overhead dropping bags of lead and sand into the collapsed reactor and even a team of 1000 conscripts were ordered to wheelbarrow lead into some of the rubble. only working 3 minutes at a time. anylonger and they would begin to feel sick.

Evacuation began at 1:00pm. The people were told they would only be leaving for 2 days to stop them from packing heavily as all thier belongings were now contaminated and covered in radiation. The water system to the town was also shut down. The Firemen and Power plant technicians were now VERY sick from radiation poisoning and had been transported to a Terevesti military hospital. Their family members had also been transported to be with them although meetings were highly monitored and restricted.

Mehmet Ceau was hesitant to publicly announce something had gone wrong in Bulgislavia's biggest powerplant and mainsource of energy. The Government announced early in the day power rationing and blackouts would be in place but blamed Foriegn economic embargoes for reducing Bulgislavian finaces for more power plant constructions

"Comrade President we MUST alert the world. they will soon start picking up abnormally high radiation in thier atmosphere, they will point at us first Im sure" said Humar Maneci number 2 in the govt

Mehmet was in a sulk

"How will this look Comrade? What about our people what do we tell them. blaming the problem on foriegn Sabourtage wont work will it?" he said deflatedly

"We must face up to structural design flaws but we can drag our feet with an investigation and make the results favourable in the end so no blame can be put solely on the party and our image will remain in tact" said Humar

The Population of Muresc was now reduced to emergency workers and the military. All civilians had been liquidated it would become another Pripyat ghost town and Bulgislavia would have lost the use of two Nuclear power stations

4:00pm

Mehmet was to appear live on Bulgislavian TV and a message braodcast to the world

TO THE OUTSIDE WORLD AND BULGISLAVIAN CITIZENS

"Dear Comrades and international leaders. There has been a disaster as the Muresc nuclear powerstation. I assure you it is not as bad as Chernobyl but the disaster has led to the evacuation of the workers city of Muresc. We ask for calm and co-operation during his terrable tragedy and my heart goes out to the good people who are experiencing this tragic event. We also ask the world to co-operate with us. The loss of Bulgislavia's two only nuclear power plants will cause many economic hardships on the Bulgislavian people. Power rationing and blackouts will take effect. All power will be turned off from the hours of 7am to 8pm and the power grid for street lights will be turned off completly. We aks the world to help our nation in the construction of a new and safer energy producing powerplant and the Party's policy on Nuclear technology will be debated. You will be free to help with funds for a new plant, technicians or engineers. We would also require assistance in sealing up the destroyed Reactor and to safely decomission the remaining 2 reactors and shut down the plant entirly. Thankyou and we wish for the best for our Citizens who must suffer the consequences of this tragic disaster"

The TV's then flicked off and showed the image of the Bulgislavian flag and the national anthem played

When the depot officer got the e-mail he first could not belive what it stated, first most of the material requested was in the way, way back of the werehouse, second most of it was obsolete but reading to the end of the mail he understood, if it was for giveaway they would get more space and less to keep track of. He printed the list, folded it into a paperplane and opened a window facing the werehouse area.

"Gathe!" He shouted at one lone worker sweeping the floor. Gathe (as is his name) looked up.
"Tell the truckers to gather this up and bring it to the loading docks, report to me when finished!" He threw the paperplane on Gathe he caught it and red it.

To the generous nation of Baycosas and its International health ministry

We entirly accept your deal and will be entirly greatful to host your workers in helping with this Bulgislavian tragedy
Learning from mistakes that Chernobyl made we are working more quickly and will be entirly open and not try to cover it up or censor it as it complicates matters.
We will also accept your offer to assist in constructing a new, modern and most importantly SAFER nuclear power station. It will be located a small distance away. enough to be out of the most contaminared zones and a new workers city will be constructed. Its important Bulgislavia gets back to normality as soon as possable.

Once again thankyou very much

To: Bulgislavia

Our nation sends its condolences to those that lost their lives in this tragic disaster. We are sending a special nuclear clean-up team led by Dr. Hassan Colberto from Tripoli University. He is the best we have to deal with nuclear disasters and we believe that his help at this time can help contain radiation and save lives. We are giving him a carte blanche budget to undertake all support activity in this cause. He and a team of about 40 other experts will arrive in your capitol and from there coordinate with your emergency relief authorities.

Dr. Colberto stepped off of the Boeing 767 which transported his team from Italia Orientale to Bulgislavia. Now it was time to get to work on some nuclear clean up. A UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter landed nearby and Dr. Colberto and four of his team climbed on board. The remainder of the team would be going to the team's lodging areas and get organized. However, Dr. Colberto wanted to go to the disaster site immediately.

The helicopter landed at a military base not too far from the disaster site and the team got off. They met with some of the local officials and military personnel to discuss the best ways to approach the area. The team changed into their radiation suits and prepared for the excursion.

"Ok everybody," said Dr. Colberto, "let's stay sharp and everybody follow my lead. We are going into a highly hazardous area and I don't want anyone doing anything stupid." With that, the team began the walk across the deserted and abandoned wasteland that was formerly a well populated city.
