REBELLION ERUPTS IN DORDEN; MILITARY ORDERS FULL MOBILIZATION
A military convoy en route to to enforce embattled Local Guard forces in Point City, Dorden came under attack this morning at approximately 6:20 AM, Praxinarian Standard Time, the Central Military Administration announced today. The convoy, consisting of 275 Army soldiers and the associated vehicles and equipment, was attacked by what was reported to be a local militia organized of farmers, townspeople, and known dissidents. The militia men attacked with mostly hunting rifles and assault weapons stolen from numerous recently raided Army stockpiles in Dorden. More troubling, however, was the presence of improvised explosive devices, which trapped the convoy and were reported to have caused heavy damage to the Army's armored units. Casualties were heavy, with 31 dead, 60 wounded, and 4 APC's lost.
Hostilities have been high in Dorden since the issuance of Executive Edict 1011-205-887 in February. The Edict inflamed the relatively impoverished area by redistricting access to the Vowa River, traditionally a lifeline in the agricultural region, to favor large industries planning to move to the region. Violence began in Point City, the capital of Dorden, almost immediately, but it was only recently that Local Guard units began to request Central Military assistance. Rumors have surfaced of foreign intervention and the presence of known international terrorists, but no information has been released to support these rumors.
News of the convoy attack was met with large scale celebration in and around Point City. According to local reports, an angry mob of approximately 700 to 800 attacked Local Guard fortifications in the Government District, and razed both the local Court House, but also occupied the local jail, freeing previously detained rebels and enemies-of-the-state. While the rebellion appears to be a spontaneous mix of mob violence and anti-government hatred, targeted attacks at Local Guard installations have raised concerns of a hidden leadership, perhaps of communists or separatists. The CMA has released no information to support these rumors.
In response to local hostilities, the Central Military Administration declared a State of Unrest constituting all of Dorden, and began to mobilize the 1st Home Guard Army to crush any and all rebellion.
