Elder Gérard Schivardi Bové - High Scholar
March 4th, 1215 - 8:05AM

Université de les Cristaux - Chambers of Council

Accenture was known as having a "Règne de Connaissance" style of governing, meaning Reign of Knowledge in Accenture's native tongue. Unlike many other nations in the world, Accenture was ruled by intellectuals rather than religious figures or leaders by birth. Philosophers, astronomers, scientists and teachers were the predominant force in La Terre de Accenturé, ruling over the agriculture, military and the treasury of the land with a benevolent hand. Accenture was a very technologically advanced nation, on the forefront of hygiene, with such modernizations as running water through the use of manual pumps linked to a large tank filled from a nearby water source, daily heated bathes and the use of simple machines to aid in the production of items such as weapons and soap. Accenture had access to a huge amount of resources from several sources, first and foremost, The Western Reaches. Although it was a wasteland, it was abundant with many precious items such as gold, silver, diamonds and white gold (platinum), as well as iron and coal. The Reaches' inhabitants were mainly uneducated natives, easily outsmarted, although there had been no conflict up to that point. Its military was also very technologically advanced, taking ideas from expeditions to China, and incorporating them into weapons. Accenture's military was almost one million strong, most of it split up into sixty man columns with 30 horsemen with bow and arrows and curved swords, 10 knights typically armed with straight edge swords and 20 bowmen with a specially designed rapid fire crossbow which had a twelve arrow-rack on top of the groove where the arrow, equipped with a lever to allow for twenty arrows shot per minute. Many of Accenture's forward invasion forces were equipped with diamond tipped arrows, some coated with venom or feces. Eighty percent of Accenture's population was literate in the language of French, fifty percent in Anglo-Germanic language English, and forty percent educated in a university. Almost every town had a series of schools for both genders to attend, a revolutionary concept at the time. Many major townships had universities for higher study, busy throughout the year. There was no official religion in Accenture, although some central valley families belonged to the Christian school of thought. Most of the society though questioned spirituality skeptically, following Plato's train of thought. The equivalent to a capitol in Accenture was the University of the Crystals where the Council of Elders, twenty scholars all experts in different fields, as well as two in different fields of military subjects, ruled over the nation with an insight a king or bishop lacked: the insight which lacked obligation.

Elder Bové was a professor in political philosophy and culture, one of the most prevalent Elders sat at the head of the Council Chamber's long redwood table, the table draped with silk crimson banners. Outside, the Elder's viewed citizens moving carts of fruits and precious metal bullions up and down the stone streets to markets and to the treasury of Accenture, which already held hundreds of tons of Reaches platinum and gold. Rows of Accenture knights clad in tightly weaved layers of silk, cotton and wool jogged through the streets, following the Paladin of their section. The people of Accenture were quite happy, drinking wine and eating fish eggs from the coastal towns of the country, socializing in the beautiful forums lines with marble statues of the first Elder's of Accenture, holding two kilogram diamonds. The University of the Crystals itself was quite large, occupying thirty-two square kilometers of the capitol of Les Cristaux, used for general education in the field and in the classroom, even used for martial arts training. Four guards in traditional chain mail and plate armor stood by the door exiting the chambers into the hallways of the University armed with diamond tipped-spears, bearing the eight point Accenture star on the robes overlapping their torsos. Elder Martin Fitzroy walked casually into the chambers, two men in calvary uniforms following him in. The sun gleaming into the room from two stain glass windows on the edge of the ceiling and a glass ceiling shined off of their curved swords. Their specific unit, the Alencion Calvary was distinctive in its weaponry as it was one of the few to use a blade with a diamond coating on the edge, giving it exponential abilities.

Elder Fitzroy laid a declaration on the table directly in front of Elder Bové. He was sweating; most likely from running through the university to get to the chambers. The declaration was on a scroll, tied in a crimson ribbon with the Accenture star on it, their nation's equivalent to an address. The star was a solid gold, signifying the council. As he opened it, he was greeted by the crown of San Pellegrino Romana, a superpower just west of Accenture. Each Elder read it one by one, taking notes with quill feather pens. As each finished, they all sat in contemplation, thinking of what their next words would be. San Pellegrino Romana was quite the large nation. "Under the table" operations on the border with some citizens, unknown by San Pellegrino Romana itself, had set it up with a few friends in the population in exchange for small amounts of gold and platinum and diamond in proportion to Accenture's collection. Accenture had been quite cut off from the rest of the nations in the region which had been dubbed the Bohemians by the council. Accenture could well become a superpower in the region if it so chooses, but the council had decided to keep itself isolated to allow for a steady, uninterrupted and untaxed flow of resources from its allies across the Roman Sea within foreign intervention or looting. Now, there was almost no option.

Elder Chevalier, the Elder of military tactic, stood up, pointing at a map of the Bohemian area he had created. "I think this is the time. If we go to this 'conference' in Balinghem, we can well become a superpower in this alliance. If we don't, we'll be left and a new, conglomerate of many peoples will come together. They will undoubtedly want to govern the largest ocean that borders them. La Ocean of Crystals is ours, but the Roman Sea is much larger and a much cheaper trade route. We need that route open." He sat down, nodding.

Elder Dupont, Elder of military history stood up. "Also, with the channel dividing us and The Western Reaches, our strongest ally at the moment, we must keep that channel clear of a united Bohemian fleet."

Elder Bové stood up. "Also, this could make for some major improvements in our engagements. Our collection and sale of white gold and diamonds would flourish if we opened up some sort of trade with the Bohemians."

Elder Bourque, Elder in politics stood up as Bové sat back down. "Also, we must ensure that we take a major seat of power in this alliance. It is absolutely necessary for us to maintain dominance in this region."

"Aye. We shall participate in this conference. Bourque, author the acceptance letter. Tell them we will be there."

La Terre de Accenturé will be attending this conference in Balighem. We will be sending Elder Bové, Elder Dupont and Elder Franc of our Council of Règne de Connaissance escorted by the Accenture Alencion Calvary. Note, their caravan shall be marked with our distinctive eight point star. We will have our own list of suggestions and requests for this conference which are in the interests of the Accenturé people. We are prepared to stay as long as necessary to make sure that the terms of this conference will be fair for our people as well as others.

Cordially,
Elder Richard Bourque, Accenturé Elder of Politics

Leader Pathos - Tower of Anatole - East Coast of The Western Reaches

"Brother, what is the word from the Eastern regions?" Leader Pathos asked smoothly, letting his words fall softly upon the messenger in front of him.
"Leader," the messenger bowed slightly, "there is word of a conference of leadership in the nation known as San Pellegrino Romana. The Romans have sent an invitation to all nations in the region to discuss the current predicament of the greater Grove."
Leader Pathos sighed, "If only they knew what was going on here. We're up to our elbows in barbarians and we're fewer than nine hundred strong..." He put his chin in his hand and thought for a moment. Pathos looked up with a hint of excitement, "That's it." He said triumphantly, "I must attend the conference, I will rally for extra troops at the meeting and it will finally give us a chance at reinforcements against the barbarians in the West and South."
The messenger looked blankly at Pathos.
"Well? Stop staring man! I must write quickly, ready yourself for another journey brother, this one must reach the Romans post-haste."
As the messenger scurried away to fetch his things, leaving only Pathos and his two passive guards in the room, he began to write on parchment with his signature eagle-feather quill.

To: Brother Edward I
From: Leader Pathos - The Order of Aechos

Forgive me brother for the rudeness that this message bears. I realize the call for conference was not for my ears and was exclusive to those in the Grove and only the Grove, but let me explain myself. I am Pathos, I lead the Order of Aechos which resides on the East coast of the Western reaches of the globe. I believe you may have heard of us, perhaps in foul light because of the many barbarian ships that depart for your country in search of treasure and violence.
These barbarians are as much of a problem to you as they are to us, and I am requesting admittance to this conference for discussion of the fate of their barbaric ways. Understand that they have killed many of the Order and are growing in numbers. I sense a movement East that is accelerating at a currently unstoppable rate, with Aechos being the only thing between them and the Grove.
If you will not consider my request out of compassion, then please consider it out of concern for your own people. They are not safe if the barbarians make it into the channel.

And Justice for all,
Leader Pathos

The bearded tribesmen stood around the pyre, shadows cast upon their faces as they looked upon it, mixing with the slivers of tribal warpaint upon their faces.

"Gorg'th! Ye on done reciev'd such scabrey werds ay da roomans callen trib's an kings ta talk."

"Done did, Thranne, done did, 'nd call they n thay werds ta ther essenceless tables, devoid ah elemtal blessin'."

Mutters of disapproval and mockery of westerners filled the cold night mountain air until one, not taller or broader than the burly mail-clad men, raised a hand, calming his own chuckle.

"Bra'r's. Many a'r'proaches r'yen c'bring 'pon dem, yet at the end a' it, t'is wi'em tha we exchange awo crafts, awo game adn war spail and take grain frem. One ma'go, tha merl' hold on owa end tha d'exchanges stop naw. I done prop's Dathem, son ay Ysennek. It be fitt'n that tha son ay tha chief a' trade dun go. Tha lad speak their werds, and r'yon knoo he done turn a coin."

Nods and grunts and few mutters of dissaproval joined as a younger man, dark beard shorter than most and eyes betraying that this one may have only seen a fraction of the bloodshed msot of the others had.

"I d'run take this t'sk and set tah tent ta done scribe mu'rply a'ttendin. Spidar mistruss pretect us, elements surround us."

A cheer went up into the air and drinking and music soon commenced around the fire as the young man sat at the table inside his tent. He muttered a blessing as he lit the candles, and upon treated animal skin, he inscribed in blood red letters.
I, Dathemar of Ysennek

On behalf of the Spider Tribe, on behalf of the Runetalon Tribe, on behalf of the Red Snake tribe, on behalf of Clan Wolfskull, on behalf of Clan Atla,

In our Spider Mistress' name, in glory and awe of the elements,

Do hereby announce my attendance to the conference, to speak on behalf of the confederated tribes of the Capitolaen mountain range, the Eastern Mounts to many of your kin.

Rolling up the scroll and sealing it with a waxed emblem symbolising a spider, he paced outside and handed it to the readied horseback courier.

"Trav'l bless'd, Torne."

As the steed broke in to a gallop through the night, the man released a low sigh, rubbing his beard. It would have to go.
