Flying the Red Banner (MT, Semi-closed)

Postby Osea 767 » Sun Jun 28, 2009 7:29 am

Osean Communist Party Headquarters, Vienna

There was a cold mood among the populace of Vienna. Discontentment was rampent with many angry with the Emperor and the present autocracy. These feelings were so strong that Joseph II, the present Holy Roman Emperor, had moved out of the city and was presently residing in New Constantinople.

This is why the party had called an emergency meeting. All of the party leadership was in attendance. Everyone knew that this meeting was going to be important. First the meeting was started with a review of recent party news. Then the speaker of the meeting announced that the General Secretary of the Communist Party, Eric Rühle, was to speak. He then walked up to the podium at the front of the room, which was in the classical style the Oseans tended to prefer. However, the room was adorned with Communist posters and banners. The room had a number of cameras as the communists intended for all of Osea to see this meeting. Then Eric, with his voice filled with passion and resolve, spoke.

"We have all seen the suffering of the people of Osea. We have seen the poor and their suffering, how they have been forced to work in miserable conditions for the benefit of others. By this, I refer to the business corperations and aristocrats that abuse the rights of Oseans. This is ultimately the fault of the Emperor, who has done everything in his power to maintain this system. But this will end. It must end or else it will only get worse. We must all now rise up! It is only through enduring great hardship that we can ensure a better future for us, the people of Osea and for all future generations. I call upon all Oseans to join us, the Communist Party of Osea, in this great struggle for it is you, the people of Osea, that we fight for".

The assembled Oseans immediadly began clapping and give their support. And soon, across all of Osea, a wave of chaos swept through the nation as everyone soon found themselves forced to decide who they would side with. There was only one thing that everyone was sure of and that was that the nation would be changed forever by the civil war that clearly was awaiting them.

Captain Hernandez sat back in his chair behind the small desk of the musty Valencia office. A ceiling fan provided a consistent, low 'swooshing' noise while causing elaborate dances in the swaying dust, visible in the golden beams of sunlight that shone through the blinds. There was a sound of children playing in the street below, and a dog barking in the distance. From the outside, the Republican Army offices looked humbled in the low, sandstone building in a Valencia backstreet. It looked humbled on the inside, too.

The ambience was quickly broken by the office door being opened in a hurried fashion by an RA lieutenant. "Capitán," he began. "There's been a revolt in Osea 767. El asesor has legislated that we send a force.'
Hernandez did not look up at the young man, and continued writing as he spoke. 'A force to do what exactly?'
The soldier looked at a file in his hand, reading from it. 'Uh... "Aid the cause of like-minded factions in the nation."'
'How specific.'
'El asesor also asked for you personally. Along with your battalion.'
Hernandez looked up, laying down his pen. 'Wow, must be serious.'
'We're preparing right now. I was told to get you to get your things ready.'
The captain laid back again, resting his head in his raised arms. 'Very well. Give me a minute.'

International waters off the Osean coast
Trade fleet "Gondol", 12:33 o clock

Image

Because of recent rantings of anti commerce elements within Osea the trade fleets between Osea and Baycosa were now escorted to Osea territorial waters by two Norda-class destroyers CNF (Commonwealth Naval Forces) "Harring" and "Wash" acting under a new mandate issued by the goverment to protect free trade and Baycosan citizens working aboard the tradefleets.

Aboard the Harring and the Wash things were pretty "low-threat" attitude, most of this was pretty much a fomality to them with the ongoing crisis, things could be worse and if they got worse in Osea, trade fleets would probobly just cease to operate.
The crew on duty did routine checks of the new systems, the weapon systems were pretty much automatic so checks were made at random intervals, the coming weather was assesed and so on. For now everything went to schedule. The off duty crew were either sleeping, eating, hitting the gym or engaged in various pointless conversations while playing computer games, cards or watching tv.

There were three frighters forming a somewhat curvy column over the open sea, the destroyers were placed so that one covered the front of the column and one the back of it.

Typical Saartian response to a foreign conflict was to ensure the safety of the Citizens first and let the child nations do the fighting for themselves. Recently this objective had failed for contemperary deployments, so eager were the manifold opposing ideologies of this world to destroy eachother that Saartian Peacekeepers inevitably had the priviledge to fight on the front lines of a pointless bloody combat.

This war of Ideology did not differ in terms of of its representation. Two opposing ideologies sworn on eachothers destruction and the pledge of Saartian Peacekeepers in the middle. It differed heavily on the tact of the Saartian Deployment and reasons for its higher alert status. The Emperor Joseph II being a not so distant relative of the King Joseph Falkonheim.

There was not a chance the King was going to surrender an alliance of blood to the likes of a petty Communist Uprising. This was not a Peacekeeping operation, the various pieces of Armour, Commando Reigments and Air Support all there to offer a decisive victory in the name of Monarchy.

Joseph, I expect this protest will not be a peaceful resolution to the Communists anger. My forces are ready for deployment in your nation in the likely event that these protests begat an armed uprising. All I require for the deployment of these forces is your order, I shall ensure that your name will not fall to the ignorance of the Communist or the perversion of its supporters.

Signed,
Joseph Falkonheim.

Rahman Abdallah-Aziz and Osama bin-Talal sat in the Jaish-e-Mujahideen main headquarters in Tripoli. They were waiting for a team from the Foreign Service Corps (FSC), Italia Orientale’s intelligence agency, to come update them on the situation in Osea 767. Apparently, Osea’s communist party had declared war against the government and the country was now gripped in chaos. The FSC had been monitoring the situation in Osea for some time, since the country was an ally and its stability was important to Italia Orientale.

Despite that importance, the government of Prime Minister Francesco Cesare wanted nothing to do with this conflict officially, since they thought the communists had a good chance of winning and did not want to have Osea become a hostile enemy in case the communists won. Cesare and his men felt that it was best to stay out and let the conflict resolve itself.

However, there was an election coming up, and if Cesare was unwilling to do anything, his rival Suleiman Al-Jazzari, certainly was. Al-Jazzari and his Islamic Unity Party were staunchly anti-communist and did not want to see Osea go red. Since he wasn’t in power yet, and therefore had no control over the armed forces, Al-Jazzari called on the independent Jaish-e-Mujahideen to do the job for him. He contacted some of his friends in the FSC and they agreed to give a full briefing to the Mujahideen leadership.

Back in the field office, two FSC agents walked in. “Good afternoon, I’m Mr. Tan, and this is Mr. Bone,” said one agent, “we’re here to discuss the Osea situation.”

“Very good, very good,” responded bin Talal, he was sure he recognized Mr. Tan from his military days with the Revolutionary Guards, “can I offer you some tea or coffee before we begin?”

The FSC agents declined the offer and went into the briefing. After an hour and a half, the presentation was over. The agents and the mujahideen shook hands and the FSC boys left the HQ. Aziz and Talal decided to call up the 7th Mujahideen Battalion, which was under the command of Hafez bin Jamil, one of the Mujahideen’s best field commanders.

That night, each member of the 7th Battalion would receive a phone call telling them to report to base the next morning for deployment. From there, they would board aircraft that would take them to Osea to meet up with the pro-Monarchy forces so that they could coordinate their operations. It had been a long time since the 7th had been called into action, and he was sure the men would be looking forward to it, especially since they would get to kill some Godless communists.

Rear Admiral Makary Czarnecki was seated in his desk upon the Imperial flagship, "Enterprise", as it sailed towards the Osean coast with its escorts, attack ships, and a various amount of troop transports that would bring the armed Constain force on land.

His nose touched the smell of air fresheners as he leaned back and took a hold of a bottle of aged scotch, pouring some into a small paper cup and sipping it down. Due to the Osean government being an ally, the typical Constain response of airborne forces was scrapped and an entire defense force was put together in order to help save the Monarchist government.

Makary leaned up, rubbing his aged face as he pressed down on the call button to his aid.

"Lieutenant Ostrowski?"

Patryk was a young man and Makary often thought of him as a son, he always did look up to the rear admiral and follow his advice whenever given.

"Yes, sir?"
"What's the status on the fleet?"
"Sir, we're a few miles off shore. Our troop transports are starting to move ahead of the fleet in order to land."
"Very good, sound general quarters. I want the fleet in position for an attack get the destroyers around us and send the frigates and corvette into a counter-attack stance. Launch the first flight of aircraft if needed."
"Aye, sir."

Moments later a general quarter alarm filled the hulls of the entire fleet as it moved in position, ready for an attack that came its way. Above the skies one could see the destroyers move into a square shape around the Constain flagship while the frigates and corvettes moved with the troop transports, ready to strike.

“Conflict has broken out between the monarchist government of Osea 767 and communist rebels. Several nations have sent in peacekeeping forces, but at this point the situation remains to unclear to offer any in-depth analysis. We will continue to keep you updated—”

Premier Tanner turned the TV off and pressed a button on his desk. “Send in Col. Almajoya now.”
A few seconds later, a man in a neatly pressed uniform entered Tanner’s office. “Is this about Osean, sir?”
Tanner nodded. “Yes, colonel, it is. We cannot have those damn commies getting control of an ally. I’m sending you and the 1st EAF to Osea. You’ll move to bases in Fanboyists, link up with our forces already stationed there, and then establish a base of operations in Osea. Then you will coordinate with the other nations in stamping out the rebellion. Understood?”
“Yessir!” Col. Almajoya saluted smartly.
“Good, now get moving.”

To Osea 767:
We have heard of your plight and we cannot allow an ally to fall into the hands of communist scum. We have forces en route to your nation to assist you in stamping these rebels into the dust.

Baycosan Broadcasting Services - The only news you need to know

Osean Crisis Worsens

In response to the growing internal crisis in the nation of Osean and mounting threats of shipping lanes and foreign interventions the Baycosan goverment today declared Mandate 22c-11 to be put into effect.

Mandate 22c-11 is nothing less then an official decleration of war aginst the Communist Party of Osea. Today the Armed Forces of Sultenia were confronted with the task to compleatly pacify the Communist agitators of Osea, to capture or eliminate their despotic leader Eric Rühle and open supression of communist influence in Osea by any means neccecary.

Later today an interview with the Chief of Military Command will be held discussing what measures that are needed to be taken, however the Chief of Military Command has already informed us that military actions will be taken on all fronts aginst the enemies of Baycosa. A detailed speech is to be given by the President tomorrow on this subject.

*Pictures shown of the Arivadan air-assault*

We are not sure what to make of these pictures, Arivada claims that this is part of their humanitarian efforts in the ongoing crisis but we have no word form any Osean representative that Osea officially approves of this obvious incursion of their airspace.

Thats all for now, we will be back in a later broadcast.

Palace of the Emperors, New Constantinople

Joseph II was in a bad mood to put it mildly. The communist forces were having more success than he had imagined to be possible. Not only that but other factions were emerging in this war. So far the communists had managed to capture most of the the german, northen territories and had managed to capture Vienna, which had been serving as Osea's secondary capital. But, after that their advance had been stooped dead in its tracks.

The armies of the Emperor now held a solid defensive line along the edges of the balkan terrirories. They had all of Osea's territory in Asia minor under their control along with many other Osean possesions. But a small faction, calling itself the Islamic republic of Moldova had recently declared its independace. Luckily for this faction, the other factions were too occupied at the moment to crush them but their luck was unlikely to hold out.

However the Empire seemed to be having excellent results on the diplomatic front. So far there were plently of support for them and none for the communists. So the diplomatic corps went straight to work. It sent messages to all those who had offered their support, accepting it. The messages included a careful combination of flattery and military discussion, which advised all supporters to land their forces in Anatolia, which was under monarchist control, where they shall be then deployed to the front. As for the Arivadian Peacekeepers....

OBC News

Image
Arivadian peacekeepers parachuting into Osean territory

...among other recent developments, the United States of Arivada had started to deploy peacekeepers in Osean territory, which according to the Arivadian President is for the purpose of defending Civilans from harm and tending to the wounded of both sides. Various sides in the conflict have all made individual statements declaring his statement to be, among other things, "preposterous". While the peacekeeper currently landed will be allowed, it has been made clear that if any more Arivadian peacekeepers are sent, they will be likely be shot down.

The ships carrying the 1st Expeditionary Assault Force passed through the Straits of Gibraltar on their way to Anatolia, covered by the guns of the two Kara-class cruisers and the aircraft of a Kiev-class VTOL carrier. Probing ahead through the Mediterranean were five Victor II-class attack submarines, ready to intercept any incoming enemy ships.

Multiple foreign countries have come to the Assistance of our Allies, and in a few days a fleet of our will be embarking to assist them aswell, I am also very sad to report that this rebellion was staged by a group of no one else but Communists, of whom most of the people in the country know i hate. There has already been several Riots all throughout Osean Cities, and many are already dead or wounded, it is here today that i pledge my full and undying support for the Emperor of Osea, Thank You."

"And well Joanne as you can see the President has pretty much vowed to support the Emperor of Osea. As we all know now he has already embarked Multiple Fleets and several Carrier Strike Groups. Official Response of the Fascist Federation of the Grand World Order

The Order is dismayed by the uprising of the Communists in Osea; we request permission from Osea to deploy military and paramilitary forces to assist in the quelling of the said "revolution."

We wish to deploy units primarily from the Army, Federal Guard, and Marine Corps. The job of the Army will be primarily to fight the larger Communist operations and assist in counter-Communist operations. The duty of the Federal Guard will be to root out terrorists, et cetera in loyal Osea, and the Marines will spearhead offensive operations into Communist controlled territory. Obviously, we are also intending to send aerial support, thus requiring aid from the Air Force.

We are willing to start deploying soldiers immediately; our military has not de-mobilized for several years now, due to some rather unsavory events and the constant actions of the Liberty Confederation.

The freighters and 4 destroyers are to be taken to allied waters for unloading and trasportation to our eventual base of operations, we need only to ask the locals for a piece of land, rest we build ourselves.

The Viper and 2 destroyers will proceed into range of hostile areas and commence disruptive operations to make life a little harder for our enemies. Field Marshal Robert Lee Wheeler looked around the conference room. It was amazing really. The Generalissimo had managed to call an emergency meeting of all the Field Marshals, all the party leaders, and leading senators and beaureucrats. All on short notice.

"So, would you like to fill us in on what has happened?" Field Marshal "That-Bloodthirsty-Croat" Duvnjak said somewhat irritably. "I'm guessing something has happened, seeing as you called us all here."

Heinrich Grimm, the head of state nodded. "Indeed. Something rather major has taken place. There has been a communist revolt in an ally's nation. Osea, and its royal family, are threatened by the a civil insurrection." He noted the thoughtful expression on the face of NSWP leader Stanley Neniven. "I believe we need to decide what our stance, and what action, if any, is to be taken."

Neniven was first to speak up. "I think we should support the rebels, sir. Obviously the royals have been doing something wrong to have sparked a revolt." There were angry growls from Wheeler, Duvnjak, and Eastern Alliance Minister of War Steven Grimmeberger, along with many of the Field Marshals. A handful watched impassivly, most notably Field Marshals Hohenzorn and Von Bayern.

Neniven continued. "Not blatantly, mind you; the revolt might not succeed, and we don't want to be implicated, but if the revolt succeeds, it may be best to already be friendly with them."

Wheeler snorted. "And what? We're not exactly a nation known for friendliness to Reds. I'd say they'll be downright suspicious of us, no matter what. Besides, a legitimate government is a legitimate government. We should support the Royals in some capacity. It doesn't really matter how."

Grimmeberger smiled grimly. "Ah, you'd like that, Lee, wouldn't you? A chance to bash some commies, ever since you got cheated out of the Oil Province Campaign?"

Lee smiled humorlessly. "Damn straight. But seriously, like Stanley said, it could be covert or unofficial, in case it goes wrong. But, may I suggest a volunteer force? I could lead it?"

Everyone knew it was coming. Grimm looked around. No one objected loudly, though Neniven and a few of the more liberal leaders shook their heads. However, the majority favored Wheeler's plan. He nodded. "Its agreed, then. The budget and authorization will come up in the Assembly and Senate, we'll pass it real quick, and then we'll be sending this force over. Field Marshal Wheeler?"

People were already filing out. They were unnoticed.

Wheeler snapped to an erect posture, Fanboyist four-fingered salute already at his forehead. "Yessir?"

"You're in charge. But don't be too blatant. And your first job is make sure the Osean Royal Family is safe. They are our allies. They are no use as such if they're dead. Are we clear."

"Absolutely, sir. Don't worry, sir, this expedition is in good hands."

"Excellent. Don't let the Federation down, Field Marshal."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In record time, volunteers were found (often enough with previous experience, to minimize training time), reactivated, reequipped (often with surplus our slightly out of date gear), and embarked.

Mediterranean Sea

The Comorostan 1st Expeditionary Assault Force was lucky that the communist forces in gibralter and the african territory adjudicant to it were pinned down by the manarchist as they passed through the Straits. But they were soon being shadowed by communist submarines. They were serving as the vangard for a communist fleet that was headed by two carriers, with numerous escorts. However, they weren't going to engage yet. So far, the monarchists had the bulk of the Osean navy, but weren't using it as the monarchists were unsure how much they could trust it. That fact was enough though for the communists to be unwilling to risk what ships they had. Instead, the force would be tracked, both with ships and land based maritime patrol aircraft.

Osea national waters

Viper Aircraft Carrier

- Operation Snowfall

The order had been given and preperations had been made for the first offensive assault made by the Baycosan Armed Forces in the campaign aginst Osean communism. The first strike would be aginst the enemy controlled city of Vienna, a massive air attack to show the communists that they would not go unopposed in this war.

Six HAR-21 (Hunt Attack Recon) aircrafts would target civilian infrastructure and deny their use to the rebels, each air unit was outfitted with
    5 AIM-120 AMRAAM
    2 AIM-9 Sidewinders
    4 AGM-65 Mavericks H-model with a 140 kg HE warhead
1 TID (Tactical Incendiary Device), an unguided bomb with a heavy payload of napalm
1 DC (20 mm Defensive Cannon modeled after the AEDN-cannon)

The operation was simple but the pilots were told not to let their guard down as the rebel forces had proven tough advisaries on the ground and always seemed to spin a suprise or two. Orders were to fly at low speed on low altitude, come in west of the city, when approching the city they would increase their speed, act in pairs, deliver the payload and move back to the Viper at high speed. Hit and run.

The planes rolled to the runway and were shot off one by one into the clear skies.

Anatolian peninsula, Holy Roman Empire of Osea

Ports along the peninsular's southern coast, along with military air bases, were reddied to accept the troops of their allies. They would first be moved inland and their commanders would be asked to come to New Constantinople or to send someone to represent them, if they could not come themselves. The reason for this was the need to decide on the grand strategy of the monarchist war effort. They knew that the communists and the other rebels were being held off but they could not rely of the situation staying like that forever. There was no time to lose.

Islamic republic of Moldova

The headquarters of the Islamic republic's rather meager armed forces was very busy trying to get all of it's forces to a useful standard. They knew the only reason they hadn't been crushed was that the main factions were too distracted with each other. For many, the news of foreign powers seemed to be a bad thing, but for some reason it was not so for the leader of the Islamists, Stepan Vieru.

He knew that this meant that the monarchists would have to be in a weak position to so readily accept foreign aid. So it made things easier for himself. All that was needed was to ensure that whatever faction that won was too weak to attack Moldava. With the present deadlock and the flow of arms into the country, that would be easy to do. All they needed was to get some backing to speed up the development of their forces and for the situation on the front to continue and, Allah willing, they would ensure that they survived this war as a independant nation.

Communist High Command, Vienna, Socialist Republic of Osea

Everyone in the room looked rather tired. They had heard of the nations that had sided with the monarchists and they seemed to have none on their side. But they were still filled with a resolve to continue the fight. Eric Rühle then spoke up "We got to break this stalemate quickly, gentlemen, or the monarchists will break it for us. I can assure you that it will be very hard to stop them if they do. So what options can you give me?".

One of the Marshalls in the room, Karl Ziegler, replied "We need to get manufacturing facilities operating at full capacity. We have to prepare for a long war. For this, we need to strengthen our defensesto hold off the forces assembled against us, which should be easy enough to do. We have much of the nations industrial facilities at our disposal. If we hold off for a while, we can bring it into play. This will make our chances of victory much more stronger".

Many of the people in the room, espessally the communist party members, seemed to be less than enthusiastic about the idea. Someone in the group was heard to say "Perhaps we should consider deploying tactical...".

Then suddenly a messeger entered the room, with a message in his hand and handed it to Eric who then spoke up. He said "Air defence radar has recently detected a number of aircraft entering our airspace, sir. They are coming this way and believed to be hostile. They should be dealt with soon. However, on the side of caution, I believe we should adjourn this meeting".

..........

Osean air defences soon reacted. S-400 and 2K22M Tunguska-M1 air defence systems were ready to fire once hostiles were detected by their radars. There were also a large number of AA guns, including flak cannons as part of the city's air defences, ready in the area. Finally, a flight of MiG-31 interceptors, 6 aircraft, on regular patrol was sent to intercept the aircraft. Each of the aircraft were armed with 4 R-33 air-to-air missiles and 4 R-77s on their underwing pylons.

The HAR air units kept in a single V formation as they approached the coast, units were checked, all green, CAVOK. As they swept at medium height radio chatter started along the lines of the pilots.

"Alpha head do you read?"

"Alpha head here, over."

"Sensors are picking up radar signatures all over this region, we are coming in way too high, if we continue they will spot us for sure, also intelligence reports from our "EITS" hints of possible air defences along the shores and further in land."

"I hear you, all Alpha, drop altitude and increase speed, when we approach we raise our altitude and evade possible ground fire, arm your systems and counter measures, take full manual control. Spread out."

The aircrafts spread out and dropped as low as they could to avoid radars atleast for now, the jet engines roared as they increased their speed. Pilots armed thier weapon systems, as they had been told, the rebels might pull out a suprise or two, best not to take any chances. Instead of a V the group now formed more of a drawn out wing shape.

The actions of the Baycosan pilots served to give them some more time before the Communist's ground based air defence system engaged them. However they were much less effective against the sensors of the MiG-31s. A number of flights, both MiG-31s and Su-27s were sent around the area where the hostiles were last detected. Also, the flight of MiGs already sent would soon be closing in on the Baycosan aircraft.

The Baycosan Aircrafts kept in formation.

"Alpha head, urgent, I got interceptors closing in fast, MiGs model 31s I also got Flankers further away but these ones got a mark on us, the radars must have picked us up before we hit the dirt. I count six of them heading for us now."

"Alpha head here I read you loud and clear. Listen up, it seems as the commies want to play hardball but we have other things to do. Stay in formation, increase speed and make for the target, keep as low as possible until I say when we are close enough, we will strike with two mavericks at their costal defenses and light up the sky. Use counter measures, fly low, evade and when you get the oppertunity hit them. Their wing might scatter, we will keep in formation, fight as one."

The HARs increased speed further, pressing the limits of what is possible at these low hights but this method takes full advantage of the aircrafts handling and manouverbility.

Field Marshal Wheeler watched his troops disembarking. The Grey Legion was actually, in terms of size, rather pathetic by the standards of past Federal Expeditionary forces, with only three division. If Wheeler recalled, six had been sent to Defese, and more had been sent to the Oil Province (not like they saw any action there, though).

And, he had sullenly learned, he didn't even get proper armor. Oh, he got about 600 of the old Leopard I's, but those didn't have a patch on the Valkyries the military used these days, and he was rather pissed because of this.

He walked quickly to the command post with the liason they had with the Osean Imperial government.

"So, what do His Majesty's government want done with us?"
