A (not so) breif history lesson: (fictional)
Julius Caesar sent 10 Legions (50,000 troops) to explore the waters west before returning to Roma. He had discovered a new world! Before he could reveal his discovery to the Senate that fateful day, he was brutally assassinated. Those 10 Legions settled on an island that is now the center of the Bermuda Triangle.
Without the arrival of Julius, his second in command took control and founded the City of Nova Roma. Under the guidance of a council formed from the military commanders of these 10 Legions, the archipelago flourished. Over the years ships would be captured by the xenophobic Romans and would bring new technology.
As time went on the Romans became more aware of what was going on in the world. It was not until 2010 that the Romans showed themselves to the world. They were the epitome of the Roman World. It was as if Rome had been recreated. Recently, however, they have begun a campaign of conquest against nations in the area.
OOC: That is just some background on my nation and the situation. Here is where I begin my 'turn'.
An aide to 'President' Mathias rushes in to the 'president's' office. "Sir, General Alexan has just landed on the eastern shore of Cuba. He has met little resistance in setting up a camp and wishes for your approval on advancing." says the aide.
"No, I want the world to see just what the Romans are capable of. Tell General Alexan I want his 150 Legions (750,000 troops) to set up heavy fortifications in their current location." says Mathias. He was relatively young, only 25. He had served as a soldier at the age of 16 and quickly rose through the ranks until his uncle, the last 'president' died without a son. Now he ruled the Roman 'Republic'. "Also, send in the reporters waiting with their ears to the door."
The aide gives a questioning look and opens the door behind him, letting several reporters fall to the floor. He leaves as the reporters rush the 'president'. Right before they leave he says, "I want to let people know, Roma is back."
